*Continuing from chapter 26
(S) The Ties that Bind
A year later
After extensive therapy and marriage counseling, Hinata and Sasuke's marriage emerges from the mists of tumultuous storms into calm water, a tranquil expanse that can only come from healing wounds and rediscoveries.
Now armed with the tools to thrive in resilient harmony they embark on the journey beyond survival, however, everything they've accomplished so far is merely a prologue to an even grander future as the quality of their relationship radically improves.
They're their greatest support, sharing everything with each other, and do just about everything together again, and now riding on an all-time high while baking in sunlight, Hinata steps back with her phone after priming her white lion daffodils, and the latest embellishments to what has now become their garden, his callas, the single flower Sasuke has chosen simply due to its symbolizm of renewal.
Their garden has become a vibrant kaleidoscope of petals, dancing in the breeze under radiant beams, with hues and fragrances of all kinds. A captivating blend that signifies the tranquillity and enduring charms of their love.
As she lines up her shot Sasuke eyeballs her, staying close while he waters an adjacent plot, and just when she's about to tap on her screen, he sprays just enough water at her feet to make her jump.
Then just as she stands in a puddle of water, noisily sucking up some air Sasuke grins.
"It looked like you needed a better angle, I was just giving you a boost."
"Uh huh, I don't need a boost, okay?"
He scrunches his lips to his nose "Got it, go ahead."
She walks off, trying to get some distance to take the shot, then as she attempts again, he photobombs in unique style, spritzing the hose so it sends a serpent of water right on her crotch.
"Alright that one was on purpose."
"Really, you don't say."
He chuckles while approaching "C'mon Hina, if you don't want to get hosed you should stay inside, you're my garden too after all."
"Right, that isn't the kind of liquid I need from you though."
"I know, but I can't spit that far," he quips.
Hinata bites back a laugh and he embraces her "You know I'm not great at reading these things Hina, be specific with me."
She nods "You're right it's my bad, I wouldn't want all that hawking going to waste."
"Speaking of…" He leans in, kissing her tenderly while tilting away the hose "And you know, you wouldn't need to take a picture every time they bloom together, if your lions weren't sensitive to well… Everything."
"Sure, like yours aren't made to die."
"Fair enough, but they still last longer than yours," He grins flippantly "Don't worry though, I'll get you some stilts by the end of the day, or better yet, maybe I'll just take over for both of us."
She props a hand to her side "Well la di da, look at you, the gardening expert."
He winks while spraying her daffodils "It comes naturally, I can give you pointers too, they're free."
"Oh what ever would I do without them?"
"Keep taking pictures probably."
She flicks her tongue against her jaw "Because I'm not an expert?"
He twists an open hand "Eh, I mean, you said it right?"
Hinata gasps, and with a puckish glare she suddenly seizes the hose from his clutches and opens fire, blasting him with ropes of water that drench him from head to toe, and as she laughs, Sasuke wipes his face.
"Guess I should have seen that coming."
"Especially when you're my garden too right? But look at the bright side you won't need a shower tonight."
He nods "Good point, would be a shame if I didn't return the kind favor wouldn't it?"
Her smile immediately wavers when she spots his twinkle, and as she retreats backward he follows at an equal pace.
"Actually, I just got this new conditioner…"
"Oh that's nice," he grins while closing the distance.
"And I was thinking of lighting some candles to make it more relaxing."
"Well this is more convenient."
She unleashes her doe eyes hoping for leniency but instead, Sasuke rips the hose from her hand and twirls it, adding "This only ends one way."
He aims up with an impish leer and Hinata makes a run for it, zig-zagging to dodge his retaliatory jets as she dashes towards the side of the house.
A chase ensues around their property as he squirts water into the air while she darts ahead, squealing with laughter. Then when he changes directions to cut her off only to find her poking out already on the other side, he looks down and quickly sees the flaw in his plan.
He's dripping puddles everywhere, and with the hose tugging behind him, she can see him coming from a mile. So when Hinata wags her tongue at him, skittishly mocking his attempted payback, he claps his hands, turns off the pipe, rolls up the hose then heads inside, putting an end to their impromptu water tag.
Shortly after, she discreetly follows him, stealthily navigating the house to avoid detection. As she gets closer to their bedroom, the sound of running water draws her attention, and when she gently pushes the door open, revealing him standing under cascading water with his back turned, washing his hair, a naughty idea forms in her mind.
With a whimsical grin she grabs the shampoo bottle, and with finesse, she deftly sneaks over and squeezes a small amount in his hair.
At first, he continues his shower, oblivious to the subtle change. However, as the shampoo keeps coming and the lather grows more and more luxurious to the point where foam is sliding down his face even after being under water for minutes, Sasuke briefly pauses, and after verifying that he's indeed still heavily laced with suds, a bemused smile creeps across his face.
He resumes nonetheless, this time with less effort, and like a seasoned prankster Hinata returns with another gob, but just when she starts pouring it on, Sasuke suddenly turns off the shower.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't grab you."
Hinata stops her breath, furrowing her brows in puzzlement when she notices that his eyes are still closed.
'Can he see me?' she ponders while backing off.
Then right as she turns around to flee she feels him grip the back of her shirt, and she jolts when he adds ominously.
"Too late."
She bursts into laughter from being caught, and protests as Sasuke slowly reels her into the shower fully clothed.
"Wait! No, I can explain," she giggles.
"I'm sure you can."
He douses her in water, getting payback from earlier then braces her against the wall "I told you this can only end one way."
Hinata laughs against his chest as water sprinkles onto them both, and as he softly joins in on the hilarity, he moves her wet hair from her face to clearly see her smile, and it's glowing. She's bubbling with life in his arms while holding on to him, and as he delights in her affectionate beam, he gently leans into her ear.
"Hina, I'm thinking of going somewhere, but I know you'll worry so, will you come with me?" he whispers.
She pulls his head toward her until it softly rests on her shoulder "I'm always game for an adventure Sasu, I'll go anywhere with you as long as I live. Just tell me when to pack."
It's an expected answer, nonetheless, it puts his heart at ease, and now detangled from the clutches of persistent mental barbs thanks to therapy and Hinata's endless support, Sasuke is ready to face his darkest affliction head-on.
A week later
They arrive at his childhood home, and as Sasuke parks on the abandoned yet maintained lot, the haunting reminder of the tragedy that had shattered his family years ago presses against him and he grips the steering wheel to steady himself.
Then while taking a deep breath he turns to her with eyes still reflecting the heavy fog of memories.
"This is it…" he says softly, the words barely vocal as they leave his lips.
She easily discerns the hint of fear in his eyes and places a reassuring hand on his "Remember, we can leave whenever you're ready."
He nods "You're making it easier already."
After a brief moment, they step out of the car together, and hand in hand, they walk towards the house that holds painful memories but more importantly, the possibility of healing.
A creaking echoes through the empty hallways as they open the door, and the familiar scent of old wood rushes to his nostrils as if the walls themselves have welcomed him back. Then as dust motes filter through curtains and fall around all the furniture still in their exact spots, while the calendar poised against the wall greets his eyes, the air seemingly goes still.
It's as if no time had passed at all, and suddenly, a flood of emotions crashes onto him.
His pupils dilate as unforgiving memories loom inside his mind, threatening to overthrow him while he looks on at nothing as if the specter that has held onto him for years is right there, and when Hinata notices him spacing out, she softly entwines her fingers with his, but he doesn't grasp them.
She rubs his arm "Sasu… Are you okay?"
Her eyes deepen with worry when he doesn't respond and she moves in front of him, cupping his cheeks and stroking his jaw while intentionally obscuring his view into the void, and when Sasuke's empty gaze slowly draws to hers, now brimming with concern, she smiles wistfully.
"…Sasu."
He gently holds her waist "Oh…" He whispers, leaning in close until their foreheads touch "I'm sorry, I just-"
"I know, it's okay."
She sweetly rubs his back offering silent comfort, and as her presence becomes the balm to his heavy heart, he draws the strength to persevere, locking his fingers with hers before finally setting off down the halls laden with nostalgia and grief.
His steps are light yet determined as he leads her through each room, every corner holding a story of its own, sharing fragments of his childhood, long forgotten now reimagined. Then as they stand inside his old bedroom, another obvious crack on the wall catches Hinata's attention.
She walks over to it "Okay, I've been seeing these since we got in, and I know you were a little hot-headed but-"
He laughs breaking up her sentence as he remembers what happened for himself, then when her brows raise with playful curiosity, he lets her in on it.
"My dad was watching TV but me and Itachi wanted to play baseball. We bugged him to come watch us but he didn't want to move so he said we could play inside, so, we did, and long story short, my mom was pissed."
Hinata smiles intently "Wow, so what happened?"
"My dad went around the house trying to convince her that it was a feature."
"Did she buy it?"
Sasuke flicks a subtle yet unmistakable glance, and she replies with a giggle "Well at least he tried right?"
He nods with a small smile "He took the fall, but me and Itachi were pretty much his slaves for a few months. Come to think of it, that day was probably one of the last times he and my brother genuinely got along. He was riding on a lot after that and eventually things just…"
His words fade off as his thoughts whine up and Hinata attends to him, gently rubbing his shoulder.
"Remember Sasu, it was an accident. I'm sure he didn't even know what he was doing until it was too late."
He nods appreciating her notion "Maybe, but being older, I get the feeling that we process things more alike than I thought, and he might have just needed saving… Like I did… Thank you Hina, for helping me get there."
She caresses his cheek "You don't need to thank me, you did this on your own. I'm cheering on from the sidelines because this amazing progress is all you. You're the main event," She adds sweetly "Wherever they are, they're looking at you proudly for who you've become and what you've achieved all on your own. Despite all your struggles and the disadvantages, you're incredible Sasu, so I know they can see it too."
The sentiment resonates with him, easing burdensome thoughts, misting his eyes, and puts a soft smile on his face as he considers still being surrounded by love even in their absence.
He squeezes her tightly, kissing her on the head "I think so too."
"So since they're all watching, be honest, out of your mom and dad, whose secret are you still keeping?"
"Both. My mom used to-"
"No don't tell me, that way when you see them again, you'll know exactly what you're in for."
He replies with an air of anxiety "Yeah, you might have just opened up a can of worms" He looks toward the ceiling "I swear guys, it's not too serious."
She gasps as she looks up too "I'm sorry," she says with an embarrassed chortle.
Then as he watches her try to reason with her ethereal in-laws, complimenting the house and their eye for detail, Sasuke can't help but feel that they would have approved.
Now with the ache in his chest subsiding, the memories stream unfiltered, and as he shares them with Hinata, he realizes how the number of good ones far exceeds the bad, and it allows him to connect with the past in a way that feels cathartic.
Soon they reach the kitchen and as he demonstrates his mom's old routine, Hinata opens a cabinet and finds a dusty recipe book. Her gasp signals his attention and when he comes over, she offers it to him with a soft smile.
He gently takes it from her while pulling her in, and as he opens it up, his eyes twinkle. Though the pages have now yellowed with age, it has remained in good condition, held together and still filled with the taste of his childhood.
"We should take this," he says while flipping through the leaves.
She replies cautiously "Are you sure?"
He chuckles "Why? Are you scared you won't match up to my old lady?"
"Exactly," she admits candidly.
His smile becomes more enlivened "I love your cooking, you know that, so you don't have to be. I actually want to make stuff for you, that way, she'll always be with us… Like the flowers from your mom."
She takes a soothed breath "That's a wonderful idea Sasu, a perfect way to honor her."
Hinata embraces him, and as she melts in his arms, the feeling of the house shifts as the fragile threads of the past stitch with his present, making him whole.
In that moment, the lingering sorrow wanes and he becomes awash with peace, bestowing him with the desired closure that finally sets him free, and makes him ready to rewrite the narrative of the home with one filled with happiness and love.
He holds her tight, fusing into her just as much "I'm ready to let this place go. So some family can replace the old memories and fill it with better ones."
His words stay stagnated for a while as Hinata watches for the relief in his eyes, and when she sees it, she nods with a supportive smile
"Okay… As long as you're ready, we'll make it happen," she assures sweetly.
As they drive away Sasuke takes one final look at the house that has held so much history and suddenly, it feels different, as if the weight of the past has shifted, releasing him from the bondage of agonizing memories that have plagued his judgment for as long as he can remember.
In the end, he leaves the midst of past despair with a newfound sense of freedom, finally making peace with the loss that has haunted his life, and as Hinata clutches his hand with a delicate grip, it makes it all too clear that he has outgrown his fears.
What was once a source of pain has now become a symbol of another page turned, a powerful reminder to not only be motivated by but continue to appreciate the past for what it simply is, the past.
On the way back, after a day venerated with self-healing, Hinata insists that they stop for lunch to help digest the substantial emotions.
Then as they sit, going over the menu while making plans for the rest of the day, Sasuke feels a tap on his shoulder, and when he turns around to make his order he grimaces slightly then turns back just as quickly.
Suigetsu scoffs "You're trying hard to hide it, but I can tell that you're happy to see us."
He snickers "You're making a lot of assumptions about me, buddy."
"You know, it takes more effort to frown than to smile, right?"
"It actually doesn't," he retorts in a listlessly.
Suigetsu turns up his lips and shrugs in response, and Ino rubs his back "Don't take it personal babe, remember it's not you, he just has the personality of a dead fish."
"You say that like he isn't a part of their traveling snooze fest," Ten Ten quips.
Sasuke hears her chortle and turns towards her voice just as Jugo approaches from the entrance.
"Oh great you're here too," he says unenthused while playing it off with a faint smile "…Why?"
Suigetsu starts off "To be honest there's better…" he chuckles as he watches Ino and Hinata stare at him in his periphery "I'm just kidding, Hinata told us what's up, so we had to see this through with you, like friends do."
Ino kisses him on the cheek for continuing to take the high road and Hinata takes a sigh of relief.
"I knew today would be hard on you but you've done so well. I wanted to remind you that even with all my love and support, everyone else will still be there for you too, always."
"What she means is, you can dump all your bad energy on us inst- Ow!" He grimaces at Ten Ten as she pulls on his ear "What the heck is that for?"
"Now is not the time you oblivious mole."
He sneers at her, rubbing his ear as he pulls out a chair and soon the group surrounds them on both ends, speaking casually as if there's no intrusion, and as Sasuke listens to them chatting him up he sighs.
"So, you guys came all this way, to support… Me?" He questions sincerely.
They all nod, meanwhile, Suigetsu puts an arm around Ino "But don't get all sappy now, once you let me into your heart you'll get hooked. Am I right or what?"
Suigetsu turns to her, inching in with puckering lips, and just when he gets near she turns away to signal a waiter.
He sheepishly retreats "Ahem She knows… She's just hungry, you know how it is."
"It takes real strength to go through therapy and work on yourself, so after watching you all these months, how could we not be here for the finale? You did great man," Jugo promptly interjects.
As Sasuke looks around at all the faces radiating with warmth, and genuine smiles directed at him, he feels a deep sense of belonging and gratitude for these people— his friends, the ones who have stuck by him, supported him, and wholeheartedly believed in his ability to heal and overcome.
It's a heartfelt moment, one that helps to further pale his scars, and floods his heart with renewed calm.
Then as Hinata thoughtfully reaches out a hand, he nods while taking hold "Thanks guys this means a lot. I really appreciate it," He softly professes "…Just as much as not picking up the tab."
He winks at Hinata and her eyes widen as she loudly proclaims "Not it."
It quickly gets followed by a harmonious 'Not it,' from most of the group and then.
"Dammit!" Suigetsu yells "Of course I'm the one stuck feeding you fat pocketbook slubs."
Their laughter engulfs the tiny restaurant, and they all top up their orders with decadent requests just to watch him see red as his wallet bleeds. Then after a spate of relentless teasing they agree to split the bill, giving him a break from his sense of dread.
They clink glasses after making toasts to Sasuke's recovery and to their lasting comradery, then as they wrap up their meal and prepare to say their goodbyes, Ten Ten extends an arm to grab a napkin, however as she tries to lunge over Ino, she inattentively blocks her while she talks to Suigetsu.
"Will you move your big head?"
Ino snaps back quickly "Why? Are you too worn out to stretch you withered old prune?"
"Oh trust me, she can stretch," Jugo interjects absently.
Suigetsu spits out his drink as he erupts in mocking laughter, a stark contrast to Sasuke who chortles while casually taking a sip of his with dark eyes locked on Hinata, who stares right back with her expression unfazed.
Ten Ten's heated glare fixates on Jugo, scalding with annoyance as she smacks his shoulder, and when his inadvertent gaze catches them gawking, he realizes his gaffe and inhales deeply, suddenly wrought with unease.
"Oh… Shit."
Ten Ten huffs at him, then as she gives him an earful with a voice rumbling with frustration, Ino facetiously clears her throat.
"Go easy on him sweetie, it's not like it was a well-kept secret anyway."
She replies bashfully "Excuse me?"
"C'mon Ten Ten, you've been riding his dick so hard these past few months, it's a miracle it didn't climb out of your mouth and start dragging on the floor, we were all waiting for it."
Her head juts back "Really? That's the kind of stuff you guys are imagining?"
Suigetsu coughs "No. That's not a thing I'll be mentally scarred with."
"Too late, we'll never be the same people we were before hearing that," Sasuke adds while churning his eyes.
A sly grin tickles the corners of Ten Ten's mouth as Ino shoots her a playful glare, and soon, laughter ripples through the group, diffusing the seriousness and returning the atmosphere to a chilled vibe.
Now with everyone's secret out in the open, the group finds themselves even more tightly bonded, their friendships deepening and their connections growing stronger with romantic affections comingled, intertwining them seamlessly into each other's lives so much so they become inseparable as they move forward as a whole.
Two months later
With the group coupled up, triple dates become a common occurrence. They still play rough, laugh hard, and share cherished memories that can last a lifetime as affection comes at them at every turn.
Now guided by simple instructions from his mom, Hinata pigs out on home cooked meals to the point where her appetite seems insatiable, and Sasuke feels an extended sense of warmth and comfort each time she cooks something special for him from the book.
And after beating major odds, and overcoming familial strife, Hinata and Sasuke's relationship peaks and soars, and as their love overflows like never before, it invites a delightful challenge for them to try to keep their hands off each other.
Brimming with boundless romantic affection, he chases her around the house devotedly, filling the rooms with laughter, stealing kisses at every opportunity, and sharing appreciation for every moment spent as they revel in the fervor of their connection.
It makes everything that much more enthralling and gives him irresistible urges days on end to brace her against walls, throw her on top of furniture, pin her to the ground and rail her from behind, so much so that when Hinata sits beside him one morning a few weeks later, she expects him to instantly get it when she says.
"I'm late."
Sasuke looks at her with breakfast still crumbling inside his mouth "We still have like 30 minutes."
Her lips twitch with a smile "No, I'm late."
His brows narrow befuddled as he looks up to check the time "Did you set the clock back or something? Late for what Hina?"
She cups his face between her hands, gently shaking as she gazes into his eyes "Sasu… I am late."
He takes a second to search her eyes then slowly pulls away while pushing his unfinished meal aside.
"Alright I heard. Let's go."
He grabs his keys and heads to the door, and as she watches him walk off Hinata giggles to herself, finding his innocence endearing, and giddily skips behind him, excited to catch the moment when the truth dawns on him.
She keeps it cool when she gets into the car, then as they turn onto the main Sasuke informs her of Kakashi's invitation for dinner tomorrow, and Hinata quickly seizes the opportunity to drop another hint.
She sighs, feigning disappointment "Maybe you'll have to go without me this time. I've been feeling so queasy the past few days and I've been craving the oddest things, like sweet potatoes mixed with peanut butter, ohh and lots of shrimp."
He nods, keeping his eyes on the road "Yeah that's a weird one, are you sure you're not just real hungry?"
She shrugs "Possibly, but I've been feeling super tired lately too."
"Then it's probably time for a vacation. Where do you think will do the trick?"
She casts a sideways glance at him, remaining patient "Your sweet, but the thing is, I don't know if a place would make it better or just time, especially since I haven't seen my period in a while."
He arches a concerned brow "Shouldn't you see a doctor about that? Isn't that kind of thing serious unless…"
He swiftly snaps his face to her, now with darting eyes and shortening breath as he intensely roams her gaze and upper body. Then when Hinata sees the epiphany glowing in his eyes as he suddenly comprehends she smiles warmly reflecting the serenity she feels inside, then places a hand softly on her tummy.
"You got it," she reveals sweetly.
As his heart races Sasuke immediately slams on the brakes, pulling over to the side and making the car screech to a halt. Then without a moment's hesitation, he rushes out and over to her side before she can even react, and gently pulls her out and twirls with her in his arms as his world levitates.
A huge grin spreads across his face "Is this real? Since when?"
"Last month," She giggles while wrapped in his explosive glee "I wanted to be sure before I told you."
"I can't believe it," he wheezes with excitement.
"Well you better because you're seriously going to be a dad."
He kisses her deeply while slowly putting her on her feet, then as he processes everything at once, he releases an airy laugh "Fuck… I'm about to be a dad."
His smile twitches as nervousness springs forth, then when he stares at her abdomen, breathing heavily now overwhelmed with eagerness and anxiety, Hinata takes his trembling hand and rests it on her tummy.
He rubs it gently, releasing a comforted sigh as he pulls her close "What do you think it'll be?"
"I'm not sure" Her lips pull back, curving into an ardent smile as she adds "But Sasu, they found two sacs."
His mouth hangs open as a look of effervescent amazement crosses his face "Twins?"
She nods animatedly, still in awe herself "Yeah, looks like we'll need a bigger car," her words quiver with a giggle.
He blows out a long breath as adrenaline shoots through him at the thought of becoming a father not to one, but to two little ones, and as his excitement grows exponentially, Sasuke rapidly lists out the things they need to do and get with pure enthusiasm.
In that moment which changes their lives forever, he bounces on his feet, envisioning a future filled with the joys of parenting, while Hinata watches on with a humoured grin, rapt in his infectious exuberance.
Then as she thinks of the precious lives joining their flourishing world, she draws in even closer, and as she does, Sasuke conveys his readiness openly, wrapping her in his arms once again, and with a loving tilt, he kisses her passionately, sealing their commitment to yet another journey, one even more beautiful and meaningful than others ventured.
As the fruits of their love bud inside her, Sasuke takes caring to another level, spoiling and pampering the mother of his children in a way that defies previous experience.
Hinata comes home to a relaxing environment every day, scented candles lit in all rooms, soft music to instantly alleviate any stress from the day, massages and foot rubs while she reads her favorite books, and most of all, immensely strong emotional support whenever her hormones teeters over the edge.
It's a babymoon without the hassles of travel and as their bond strengthens during the transition, Hinata does her best to show gratitude, frequently telling him just how much she appreciates him for making her feel cherished and valued.
As much as she'd think he would need a break Sasuke proves otherwise, accompanying her to every appointment no matter how minuscule, and as he educates himself on her pregnancy and the different stages she's going through, he keeps her balanced without coming down too hard on her sweet tooth, showing tender and continuous care for her and their growing family in every way possible.
She glows throughout her first trimester, and as she approaches the second, they take a trip to visit her family before long-distance travel becomes too risky.
Hinata practically mushrooms with anticipation when they set off, whereas Sasuke not so much, still harboring reservations about her side of the family, and giving his lingering doubts, he quietly contemplates dropping her off and retreating to a hotel.
However, far too familiar with her needs, he prioritizes her comfort above all else, masking his apprehension, and intends to keep his chin up to avoid rehashing old malfeasances with his in-laws during their short stay.
As they arrive at the compound, Hanabi is the first to rush out to embrace Hinata and rub her swollen tummy, over the moon about the upcoming additions to their family.
Then while Sasuke preoccupies himself with unloading their bags from the car, he unexpectedly finds himself in a hearty hug, as Hanabi throws her arms around him while greeting him warmly too.
The shock causes him to leap back at first, but when he glances over to Hinata, she eagerly gestures for him to return her benignancy
He slowly puts an arm around her as she hangs from his side "Hey Hanabi."
He coughs out some air as she squeezes him tighter "C'mon Sasuke, I know you can do better than that. It's been like half a century, you must have defrosted by now."
He chortles softly while patting her gently "It's good to see you too."
She releases a pleasant hum in agreement, and as he gets treated with compassion upon arrival, it alleviates some of the caution he possesses, and he now embraces the idea that perhaps their visit will be smoother than he initially thought.
The sisters soon walk off together and he follows closely behind them as they reconnect, their conversations flowing freely as laughter binds them to each other, and after dropping off their luggage in Hinata's room, Hanabi proposes an enticing suggestion, one that makes a twinkle of excitement brighten in Hinata's eyes— a trip to the pastry shop in town.
"No way, it reopened?"
Hanabi nods spiritedly "Mhm, a week ago, I wanted to surprise you. They must have seen your smoke signal to prepare in time."
"That's awesome! We-" She intakes a breath as she mindfully looks over at Sasuke "…I'd love to, but I can't leave Sasu here on his own."
She lifts her shoulders "I mean he can come too," She addresses him directly "I know you're not into the stuff but there must be something you like."
His eyes wander down Hinata's back "The only cake I like is Hina's fat-"
"What?"
"What…" he replies, snapping his eyes to her.
Hinata clears her throat "Don't mind him, he's just a little out of it from the trip."
"Right…" She says quizzically "Well look you're only here for two days, and you know father won't give you a break when he gets in so, this is our only shot. If you're tired Sasuke you can stay here, there's lots of liquor so you should feel right at home. I won't borrow her for too long," she adds thoughtfully.
Without second guessing, he approaches Hinata and rubs his hands down her arms.
"Go ahead, catch up with your sister," he softly encourages.
"Are you sure? You being here is already asking a lot. I don't want you bored on top of it."
He gives her a reassuring peck on the cheek "Trust me, I can handle a little solitude. I know you've missed her a lot, so enjoy your time. I'll be here when you get back."
"Well, if you're sure…"
"I am Hina, don't worry I'll be fine," he grins.
She sighs quietly, and as he leans in, nodding with urging eyes until he's rubbing against her forehead, she titters now relieved of her concern.
"Okay, But keep your phone on you, and make sure not to get too comfortable without me."
"I'll do my best," He gently rocks her tummy between his hands "I'm counting on you two to take good care of your mom alright, that stuff is her weakness so you know what to do."
He receives a flurry of kicks in return and Hinata tilts her head back laughing, amused that her boys are seemingly teaming up with him, and prepares to be transformed into their personal bouncy castle if she gorges too much.
He pulls her in with a proud smile, the usual after interacting with his unborns, and as they share a few kisses, Hanabi excuses herself, allowing them some privacy, and to instruct all the help to cater to him in their absence.
When they head off, Sasuke uses a few hours to catch up on some well needed rest then after attempting to wait out Hinata's leave right there, his stomach rumbles and he finally ventures out of the room.
As he steps into the kitchen, he's greeted like one of their own, softly, politely, and to his astonishment, with an abundance of food— enough to easily satisfy a small nation.
He takes a step back as they approach while presenting them to him individually, bringing up plate after plate for his selection, suggesting the best, and even offering to make more.
It's an unprecedented level of kindness, but being a man of modest preferences, he acknowledges their hospitality then opts for a stack of neatly sliced toast and quietly slips out back, seeking a moment to himself from all the people in the house.
He finds solace on a bench nestled between the shade of a tree and as he settles in, he can't help but take in the sight of the garden, meticulously manicured, still bearing the touch of her mother's green thumb, with a gentle mist sprinkling on all the blooms of their family's favorite flowers and more.
He snaps a picture of the flora from his vantage point then flips the camera to himself with toast in hand and takes a quick selfie, sending it to Hinata to reassure her with his contentment. Then as he looks over the images, his eyes widen from the sudden rush of agita after spotting Hiashi in the background of his photo.
Sensing the impending conversation from Hiashi's curious expression, Sasuke quickly gets up to change locations, but steps off hesitantly when he hears.
"You can't run forever."
"I can try," he sighs while turning around slowly.
Hiashi does a small nod "But sit with me, will you?"
Sasuke sits forward when he goes down and Hiashi relaxes next to him, taking in the view just as much.
"Impressive is it not? I'd never hear the end of it if I allowed this garden to die. Difficult when the one who created it is no longer with us, but I do my best to appease."
"Yeah, I can see where Hina gets it from," He glances at him slightly as he takes a deep breath "If this counts, she's just as pedantic with our garden in her memory, so I know she appreciates what you do a lot."
He smiles softly "Do you help her?"
Sasuke nods "I know how much it means to her, and it's a lot of upkeep."
"Well rest assured, you'll soon have four more hands joining the fray. That should be a great help for us all,"
"Us?"
Hiashi replies confidently "Yes, my genes also flow through these boys, twins just like Hazashi and I, they'll need to learn the etiquette of being similar but unique."
His curiosity piques "Oh I see, do I have to draft a contract to be sure I'll get them back?"
A gentle smile creeps across his face "That won't be necessary. Once the 'whys' and 'hows' begin I imagine you two will be making a lot of trips here."
Sasuke lets loose a reluctant laugh "You're probably right."
"They'll have rooms of their own so feel free to do so at any time, this is their home too, they will always be welcome. As will you."
Silence descends on the duo as Sasuke processes his words then just as he shakes off the caginess to believe what he heard, Hiashi voices with a chuckle.
"Did that catch you by surprise?"
"Yes, to be perfectly honest," he replies placidly.
"I thought it would." He expresses a subdued chortle "Credit where it's due, I don't know how you operate that company so effectively with that many sharp edges colliding at every meeting. However, you seem to be holding firm with my requested cleansing so, thank you Sasuke, for keeping your word."
Sasuke's jaw becomes rigid as his face stiffens from shock "Uh… What did you just call me?"
"It's your name is it not?" he replies casually.
"Hmm… Okay," He smirks modestly "Well it takes one to know one, I suppose that's the trick to it."
He nods firmly "Ah that must be it. In any case, your board meetings are far too aggressive for my liking, and with you becoming a father and all you seem to be focused in the right direction. As such, I'll offer you my shares to do as you see fit."
His brows knot softly "Uh, you mean my shares."
"I'll only give you this chance once Sasuke, don't miss it."
He fills his lungs with a reflective inhale "Thanks… Mr. Hyuga."
"You can stick with the 'Hiashi'. The sound of you saying that is actually quite frightening."
"Understood," he chuckles unrestrained.
"Oh and also, ensure you enroll them into Aikido when they're of age, it will serve them well."
Sasuke replies with a touch of snark "In my experience, boxing does just fine without all the reverse hugging."
Hiashi hits him right back "Evidently you're already suffering from its effects because boxing is too much of an oafish sport. They'll have permanent brain damage before it fully develops."
Sasuke tilts his head "Name one time holding hands would beat a jab to the jaw when fighting."
"I could name several," he counters self-assured.
He bites into his toast "Okay then, go ahead," he urges earnestly.
Hiashi begins with wavering conviction "Well… You see, strength comes from-"
"Sasu!"
Hinata's voice cut through his words with urgency as she hurries towards them, ready to snuff out any animus flame raging between the two and as she does, Sasuke immediately takes flight, leaving Hiashi in the wind as he races to meet her more than half way.
He holds her shoulders as she comes to a halt "Don't run like that Hina, what if you fell? What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to check on you," she assures sweetly.
With a relieved sigh he pulls her close, planting tender kisses on the top of her head, and as her eyes shimmer when she looks at Sasuke, Hiashi can't help but smile warmly, his heart now resting easy with Sasuke's changes and his display of unbounded affection for his daughter.
Amid the touching scene, he slowly rises to his feet, walking towards them while observing their enduring devotion.
"Hinata you don't have to rush to his rescue all the time, he can defend himself. Or so he assumes."
Sasuke grins puckishly as he releases her, and Hinata's brows narrow confused by their bizarre playfulness.
"Oh… I- hello father," she replies softly.
"Hello my dear, I'm so happy you came," He embraces her gently, mindful of her bump "You look as radiant as your mother did," he says caringly.
"Thank you, I'm being well taken care of, or we are rather," she giggles.
"That's good to hear, we were just talking about them," He smiles brightly while looking at her tummy "Come walk with me, maybe you will be more versed with my reasoning."
She takes hold of Sasuke's hand "Actually, I need to show Sasu something. Can you give me a few minutes?"
He nods with a subtle glance at Sasuke that prompts him to say "Don't worry my lips are sealed. Take it as a gracious head start."
Hiashi chortles as he walks back to the bench and as Hinata and Sasuke head towards the house, she nudges him with an inquisitive gaze.
"I must have portaled to another universe because what was that?"
He wraps a relaxed arm around her shoulders "Nothing much, we're just on a first-name basis."
She gasps "I'm in shock."
"Why? It only took seven and a half years," he grins.
Hinata titters elatedly as she watches calmness pour out of him, experiencing a profound fulfilment from seeing them elevate after finding common ground, to now forming a connection all on their own.
It's taken a while but with her family now united harmoniously, Hinata breezes through her pregnancy and now surrounded by consistent love and support by all who wish her, Sasuke, and their children well, she experiences a smooth labor, comforted and reassured by her proud and caring husband.
And then, the moment arrived, when her beautiful twins made their debut into the world, greeted with tears of joy, laughter, and boundless love, a true celebration of new life.
Hanabi stays with the twins as they take them to their incubators, and Sasuke remains by Hinata's side, kissing her hand and rubbing her head while she goes through all the after effects of birthing.
Then after several tests and clean up, the dedicated team of nurses leave brand new bundles of joy with Sasuke and Hinata, and as their hearts become overwhelmed with inexpressible delight, the room gets immersed in soft cooing and gushing as they ride on the absolute euphoria that it is to be new parents.
The cuteness is palpable, and as it sinks in, the realization strikes Hinata like a bolt of lightning— from the facial features, skin shade up to the hair, they're exact copies of Sasuke and her smile wiggles as she lets out a soft laugh.
"Wow, they're so perfect Sasu, perfectly you."
He scratches his head nervously, concealing the pride swelling within "Yeah, sorry about that."
"Sure you are, but don't pull a muscle trying to keep it in Sasu," she provokes with impish lips.
His elation quickly slips out as he grins with glee, and as he watches his clones, nestled in a swaddle of blankets, he inhales deeply, taking in all the profound splendor of fatherhood.
Hinata delicately extends her finger into their tiny hands and they curl around it instinctively, recognizing the comfort and safety it offers. And as their minuscule grip clutches on her fingers weathered from a lifetime of stories in contrast to theirs', still soft with unwritten tales, her heart melts and a single tear falls from her eyes, from touching the lives who've already captured her heart for the very first time.
She rubs their delicate fists with her thumbs "Kosuke, Asuka we all get to go home soon, are you excited?"
Their eyes twitch, and her heart momentarily leaps out of her chest.
"Sasu!"
"I know I'm here," he replies just as eager.
They line up beside each other ready to be their kids very first sight, and as their eyes slowly open one after the other Sasuke's brows lift and Hinata gasps as her heart shoots to the moon.
"Woah Hina, that's awesome, they have-"
"My eyes," she expresses animatedly, bouncing in her wheelchair.
As she bursts with uncontainable mirth from seeing them inherit her sparkle, Sasuke's face breaks into a warm affectionate smile as he says.
"Mission accomplished boys."
She gets discharged a few days after, and they brim up and overflow with utter delight when they finally put them down in their cribs, home at last with the family they've always desired.
As they stand together, gazing at their peacefully slumbering babies, appreciating the beautiful lives they've been blessed with, Hinata tears up and Sasuke attentively pulls her close.
"What's wrong Hina?"
She shakes her head "Nothing, it couldn't be more right," She sniffles smiling "I have everything Sasu, everything I've ever wanted."
"Yeah, well not everything."
"Huh?"
"I've been meaning to ask you something now that we've been to hell and back, something I've still not given you," He slowly gets on one knee before her and their children "I want to honor you Hina, I want to cherish you, and love you for the rest of my life."
She sniffles louder as her tears stream from her eyes "Oh god Sasu, you're going to make me wake them up."
He grins "Okay I'll be quick," He takes her hand and pulls out a timelessly elegant ring, boasting her beloved gemstone "Since your family and I were on bad terms, I never got to give you a big wedding, so I'm about to ask you for another favor alright?"
"Yeah, okay" she whimpers softly with a wide quivering smile.
"Let's renew our vows, I want to celebrate our love with everyone, prove my commitment to you and our family."
She breaks down in a pool of happy tears, and after giving her time to catch her breath he continues sweetly.
"So to the one who still holds my heart, the one who's etched in my soul, filling my life with love, and endless joy, my Hina… Will you marry me again?"
She nods as the gentle wave of emotion overcomes her.
"Yes Sasu I-I-I," She sniffles "…Absolutely."
END.
Hope you enjoyed the read.
Thanks for all the fish!
