"So I suppose you believe in this man as well if you're sister does."
Eliana could not believe what she was hearing from Shmuel. The Shmuel she loved. The Shmuel who treated her like a princess everytime she was around. Who she thought was in love with her too. And here he was accusing her of believing this so called false prophet that her sister was going to be following for a little while. She knew it wouldn't last long because of how in love Sarah was with Yussif, but still she was going.
Her eyes filled with tears as she straightened up and gazed right into Shmuel's eyes. "No" she said simply.
"Well you two certainly spend enough time together" he said, narrowing his eyes in disbelief. And that's when Eliana snapped.
"Shmuel! I spend just as much time with you as well! My sister and I are not as joined at the hip as you think we are and we certainly don't have the same beliefs! The only thing that we have in common is our love of God and our love for two certain Rabbis who really...I don't think even care about us or believe in us!"
She was crying now as Shmuel's eyes widened. Had he really heard what he thought he heard? Did Eliana really love him? Well he had certainly blown it now. How he was going to make this up to her, he had no idea. He reached for her now, wiping a tear off her cheek before she backed away from him.
"P...please don't touch me. I can't believe I even thought that you and I had something all these years."
"Eliana!" he called out now, a sad look upon his face as she rushed out of his office.
She ran away now, her tears almost blinding her as she rushed back to the guest house, running to her room as her mom, dad and sister watched, her father looking more angry by the minute. Now both girls were upset.
"Zohara stay with Sarah" he said now, leaving mother and daughter before walking towards the girl's room, knocking on the door gently as he walked in.
"Sweetheart?" he asked softly, seeing her packing her bags for the trip the next day. "You can let the servants do that you know."
Eliana didn't even look up now as the tears just kept coming. "He doesn't believe in me" she said brokenly.
Nicodemus sighed and walked towards his little girl, stilling her hands with his own before pulling her into a tight hug, kissing her head as she cried into his shoulder. He wasn't against Shmuel and Eliana, but he didn't want her to get hurt either. He wasn't going to keep his daughters from being happy with the two Rabbis that they loved so much.
"Give him some time my little dove" he whispered softly, smoothing her hair down before taking her face in his hands. "I'm not against the two of you in fact...You may be good for him actually."
Eliana smiled through her tears now as she wiped at her eyes. "T..thank you Abba" she said, hugging him tighter as the two stood in the middle of the room.
Nicodemus prayed that his daughter would one day succeed where he had failed.
Months passed by and finally it was The Feast Of The Tabernacle. Eliana had tried to get through the days without Shmuel but everyday it got harder and harder. She had heard that he was in Jerusalem, but she couldn't work up the courage to see him. She didn't know what he would think of her now. If things had changed between them.
The day before the Feast, she was walking along the streets. She had needed some fresh air from her mother's craziness around this time of year. Plus Sarah was coming home for the night and that made everything extra crazy. The girl brushed some hair behind her ear now as she walked along, but she paused when she saw a familiar face standing around with a stool in his hands. Shmuel looked quite lost and all she wanted to do was run into his arms.
She walked over to him now, gazing into his eyes as she came to stand in front of him, boldly taking his free hand. It was warm and comforting. "Hey" she whispered softly, averting her eyes so that she was looking elsewhere.
Eliana expected Shmuel to pull his hand away, but instead he squeezed her's slightly, pulling her closer to him, setting the stool down. "Eliana look at me" he said lovingly, tilting her head up with his hand so she was looking him in his eyes.
They were full of warmth and love for her. She had quite literally come to save the day. He was nervous enough about speaking around a bunch of people, so he was glad that Eliana had come around just in time. He had found the opportunity to make this all up to her.
"I'm glad you're here" he said gently as she took his face in her hands, gazing up at him with a smile as a few tears came to her eyes.
"What can I do?" she asked softly, placing her forehead on his. She was being very bold today, which surprised her. "You seem nervous."
"Stay with me? This is my first time preaching out in public and I could use a familiar face" he said softly, placing a hand on her cheek, pushing some of her soft hair out of her eyes along with the few tears that had fallen.
She wrapped her arms around his waist and gazed up at him reassuringly and lovingly. "Of course" she said softly now, leaning into his hand as he ran it through her hair.
"Can we talk afterwards Eliana. I have made a huge mistake and I need to make things right between us."
She nodded and kissed the palm of the hand that had come to rest on her cheek once more, taking it in her own hands. Shmuel smiled now and placed a kiss on her nose before letting go to set up for his sermon.
"Okay that was I think the best sermon I have ever heard!" Eliana exclaimed as she and Shmuel walked into his office hand in hand.
"Don't let you're father hear that" he said as he closed the door, locking it gently so they would have privacy.
Shmuel had spoken so passionately about what he believed in that morning and it had Eliana fired up. He could see how supportive and passionate she was about his research as well and he couldn't help but smile at the girl he loved as she practically bounced all over his office going on and on about what she had heard. "Eliana" he spoke finally getting her attention.
"What?" she asked curiously, stopping suddenly only to be wrapped up in Shmuel's arms with his lips pressed against her's.
It was the first time he had kissed her like that and it was bliss. Eliana wrapped her arms around his neck as he picked her up gently, sitting her on the desk as they continued to kiss. She gazed up at him now as he rubbed his nose against her's gently before kissing her again.
"And just how long have you wanted to do that?" Eliana asked now, stroking his cheek gently as she smiled up at him lovingly.
"Since you ran out of my office back in Capernaum" he said softly, scratching her back gently as she leaned against his shoulder now, the memories flooding back to her.
He kissed the side of her head now, removing his head covering, setting it aside before holding her closer to him. He could tell she was still bothered by they're argument that day and it made him feel horrible.
"Eliana I am so sorry about that day. I regret saying those things and I'm sorry I didn't run after you when I did."
Eliana wiped away a few tears off her cheeks before running her hand through his hair gently. She didn't think she had ever seen him like this. Casual, relaxed and a completely a different person around her. "I forgive you Shmuel. I love you."
"I love you too" he said softly into her cheek before kissing her lips once more, running his hands through her hair as she clutched at his robes gently.
He broke the kiss now and helped her off the desk, hugging her as tightly as he had ever hugged anyone. He didn't have a family like Yanni and most of the Religious Leaders, but maybe with Eliana, he could start one finally. He buried his face in her neck, inhaling the floral scent of her perfume as she wound her arms around him, closing her eyes now as she relaxed against him.
She yawned a little into her hand as he pushed her hair back away from her face. He looked down at her, noticing just how pale and tired she looked. "Eliana how long has it been since you have slept well?" he asked as he kissed her forehead.
"I haven't slept well since we left Capernaum" she said softly, gazing up at him now, her hazel eyes gazing into his dark brown ones.
"Okay you're taking a nap before I take you back home this evening" he said as he lifted her into his arms, making his way into his personal rooms, laying her down on the bed before climbing up next to her, his hand running down her cheek as he gazed down at her. He had no intention of leaving her now.
Eliana smiled up at him happily, taking his face in her hands as he leaned down to kiss her once more before placing her head on his chest. His hand rubbed up and down her back gently as she started to drift off in his arms. "Stay with me" she whispered softly, placing an arm around his waist as he kissed her cheek softly.
"Forever and always" he whispered against her skin before placing his head on her's falling asleep as well. All in all it had been a good day so far.
