DM77's Ace Attorney Chapter 6

The Golden Guard Prosecutor

September 7, 10:00 AM, District Court, Courtroom No. 1

J was already in court ready to defend Jaden, the judge was again Maccadam which helped calm her nerves as this is her second trial. But what drew her attention was the figure across from her who entered with two Purge Troopers as escort.

He was wearing an ivory-colored hooded cloak with a golden triangle clasp, under the cloak was a dark yellow long-sleeved tunic with a golden-yellow short-sleeved shirt over it and a dark brown belt, black leggings, dark brown gloves, and boots. He wore a golden pauldron on his left shoulder and a pointed two-faceted mask with a thin eye-slot across it. Underneath his tunic, he had a blueish-gray shirt and golden chest armor with brown straps. He also was carrying a staff with a red orb on it. J figured this was Hunter.

Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Jaden Yuki."

The figure puts his hood down and removes his mask handing it and the staff to the two Purge troopers he was a humanoid boy with pointed ears. He has a fair complexion, a slightly hooked nose, dark magenta eyes, thick black eyebrows, a gap between his front teeth, bags under his eyes, and ash-blond hair that is shaved below the top, with a long, jagged forelock. He has a notch on his left ear and scars on his right cheek. He then said standing professional "The prosecution is ready, Your Honor."

"The defence is ready, Your Honor." J said and looked at the Prosecution. 'Hunter Deamonne…I'd better not show any signs of weakness today, or he'll be on me in an instant.'

"Mr. Deamonne. Please give the court your opening statement." Maccadam asked of Hunter.

"Thank you, Your Honor." Hunter said nodding and brought up the viewscreen for all to see as he explained "The defendant, Mr. Jaden Yuki, was at the scene of this crime. The prosecution has evidence he committed this murder…and we have a witness who saw him do it. The prosecution sees no reason to doubt the facts of this case, Your Honor."

"I see." Maccadam said with a nod. "Thank you, Mr. Deamonne. Let's begin then."

"If we may call our first witness, Your Honor." Hunter said "The prosecution calls the chief officer at the scene, Detective N!"

Indeed, N appears on the witness stand as he stood there ready to give his testimony.

"Witness, please state your name and profession to the court." Hunter said to him.

"Sir! I'm Serial Designation N, sir!" N said saluting "I'm the detective in charge of homicides down at the precinct, sir!"

"Detective N. Please, describe for us the details of this murder." Hunter asked him.

"Very well, sir!" N said and types into a console and a image appears on the screen "Let me use this floor map of the office to explain." He then details on the map as he explained "The body was found by this window, here." He drew where the body was found.

"And the cause of death?" Hunter asked.

"Loss of blood due to being struck by a blunt object, sir!" N replies saying and then drew where the statue was "The murder weapon was a statue of 'The Thinker' found next to the body, sir! It was heavy enough to be a deadly weapon, even in a boy's hands, sir!"

"The court accepts the statue as evidence." Maccadam said nodding.

'They're still calling it a 'statue'…' J thought confused. But needless she sees in the Court Record that the Floor Plans was added as well.

"Now, Detective…" Hunter said to the drone looking serious.

"Y-yes sir!" N said a bit nervous at the stare.

"You immediately arrested Mr. Jaden Yuki, who was found at the scene, correct?" Hunter asked. "Can you tell me why?"

"Yes, sir!" N said smiling "I had hard evidence he did it, sir!"

"Hmmm…. Detective N." Maccadam said thinking "Please testify the court about this 'hard evidence.'"

N nods and begins his testimony on Jaden Yuki's Arrest saying "As soon as the phone call came in, I rushed to the scene! There were two people there already: The defendant, Mr. Jaden Yuki, and the lawyer, Miss. J. I immediately arrested Mr. Jaden Yuki! Why? We had a witness account describing him! The witness saw Mr. Jaden Yuki at the very moment of the murder!"

"Hmmm…The very moment you say." Maccadam said nodding. "Very well. Miss J, you may begin your cross-examination."

"Y-yes, Your Honor." J said nodding but thinks 'Cross-examine what…? I couldn't see a single contradiction in that testimony…' As she thinks something hits her, a piece of paper 'Hey! Jaden just threw something at me…' She picks it up and unfurls it 'What's this? "When my brother couldn't find ant contradictions in a witness's testimony he would bluff it and press the witness on every detail! The witness always slips up and says something wrong…It worked lots of times!"' J smiles and thinks 'Heh…. I should have expected Jaden would know some of his brother's tricks! Alright. Let's give this a try!'

"Something the matter?" Maccadam asked J concerned

"No, Your Honor." J said pocketing the note "I'd like to begin my cross-examination." She then went to the recording of the testimony and began with the first statement "Hold it! Who did you say you got a call from?"

"Hey buddy, don't play dumb! You know who!" N said laughing. "The call was from a customer at the Tipton Hotel, right across from the crime scene!"

'Hmmm…. Okay, I pressed. Not sure it did much, though.' J thought and said "Right, let's continue" She went with the next statement "Hold it! Detective N, how long would you say it took, between you receiving the call, and your arrival at the scene of the crime?"

"Hmmm, right…. I'd say it was about 3 minutes!" N said thinking

"Th-that's pretty fast!" J said surprised

"Our motto this month is 'quick response'! Plus, you and I are the same kind of drones Miss J so we can fly." N said with a smile "That's how I got there before the killer got away!"

"Indeed!" Hunter said nodding "So, tell us who people you found on the scene were."

"Yes sir!" N said saluting.

J then pressed the third statement saying "Hold it! Are you absolutely sure it was us?"

"Listen buddy, your dumb act will only get you so far!" N said to her. "With his pendent and gauntlets and your tail and pigtails? You two stand out like… like suspicious people at a crime scene!"

'Well… he does have a point about him. He is unmistakable. I should pick my points to press with a little more care…' J thinks then goes with the next point saying "Hold it! Why's that? What's your reason?"

"Just go to the next statement for the answer" N said.

J does so and thinks on it and said "Hold it! Hold on just one second!"

"Y-yeah?" N asked concerned.

"If I heard correctly…You said you arrested him because you had 'hard evidence' he, did I, correct?" J said to him.

Huh?" N said confused "Did… did I say that? Me?"

"I heard say it!" J said nodding.

"You did say it." Maccadam said in agreement.

"You said it." Hunter said with a nod.

"Exactly what about this suspicious woman in pink's claim was 'hard evidence'?!" J said slamming her hands on her desk and pointing at N.

"Wh-what?!" N said in shock and said, "Miss Walker isn't suspicious, and she sure isn't pink, buddy!" He then thinks and said awkwardly "W-well, I guess she does wear pink so she kind of is pink…"

"That's enough, Detective N." Maccadam said and asked, "Do you have any more solid proof other than her claims, Detective?"

"Umm…" N said thinking

'Hmm! I guess pressing can have its advantages!' J thought smiling.

N thinks more then said smiling "Yes."

'Ah year-end bonus!' J thinks sad that N managed to remember more.

"I am so sorry, I got the order of things mixed up in my testimony, Your Honor Sir!" N said to him. "There was something I should have told you about first, Your Honor!"

"Very well, Detective. Let's here your testimony again." Maccadam said nodding.

N nods and begins his testimony on the Hard Evidence saying "After securing the suspect, I examined the scene of the crime with my own eyes. I found a memo written on a piece of paper next to the victim's body!"

He then presents the receipt with Jaden's name written on it. N continues saying "On it, the word 'Jaden' was written clearly in blood! Lab test results showed that the blood was the victims! Also, there was blood found on the victim's finger! Before he died, the victim wrote the killer's name!"

The audience members watching mumbled and Maccadam bangs his gavel and N said smiling proudly "How you like that? That's my 'hard evidence'!"

"Hmmm…" Maccadam thinks and said "Before we begin cross-examniation, I have a question fro you, Detective."

"Y-Your Honor?" N asked concerned

"Why didn't you testify about this vital piece of evidence the first time?!" Maccadam asked annoyed.

N said sheepishly "Ah… eh… I know. I'm real embarrassed I forgot about it, Your Honor Sir."

"Try to be more careful!" Maccadam told him. "Very well, the defence may begin its cross-examination.

J nods and checks the testimony and then press' the second statement saying "Hold it! Just because you found it next to the body doesn't mean the victim wrote!"

"Ho hoh! Then who did write it, smarty-drone?" N asked with a smile.

"Wh-who? Um…Th-the killer! Anyone can see that!" J said thinking on the fly.

"Oh. You're saying the killer wrote his OWN name?! Buddy, please!" N said chuckling

"He was framed!" J said to him

"Objection!" Hunter said and said "Hold on. If that's the case, where's your evidence?"

"Ah…." J lets out 'Urk!'

Hunter chuckles shaking his head "Hah! I guess that was a bit of a tall order for you. Those without evidence shouldn't open their mouths, Miss J."

"Yeah, buddy!" N said nodding.

'Private retreat…!' J thought annoyed.

"Well, Detective? Tell us what was written on that memo you found." Hunter said.

J then presses the fourth statement saying "Hold it! What kind of 'tests' were these again?"

"Huhn? What kind? Umm… well…" N said and thinks "I hear they take the, um, little bits in the blood, the…. er… hemo… hemogl…Hermo… goblins…. Hobgob… Er…? Herma-goblin bobbin…" He then said flustered "I-I refuse to testify on this matter! I'm no expert on blood tests!"

"Yes, that was quite clear." Maccadam said nodding "You may continue with your testimony."

"Th-thanks, buddy. I mean Your Honor, Sir." N said smiling.

"Detective N." Hunter said arms folded looking firm.

"Y-yeah?" N said nervous.

"I look forward to your next evaluation. As should you." Hunter told him.

"…O-oh…" N said looking down sad.

'That was a mess…' J said and looks at the statements.

"Right! Where was I?" N said thinking.

J then presses the final statement and said "Hold it! Detective N! Do you get a lot of cases where the victim actually writes the killer's name?"

"Sure! It happens all the time in books and the movies!" N said chuckling.

"This isn't a movie, Detective." J points out to him.

"Oof!" N said looking down

"Now, let's talk about reality, shall we?" J asked him.

"Ummm… I guess, I haven't heard many cases… no." N said sadly.

"Don't you find it a little odd that the victim would write down a name?" J asked him "Especially the name of his own brother?"

"Ah, yeah, actually, you got a point, buddy." N said thinking on it.

"Objection!" Hunter then said suddenly "Stop right there." He then smirks "The witness's opinion on the matter is irrelevant! The facts are clear: the victim wrote down the name of the accused…" He slams on hand on his desk "The victim told us the name of his killer!"

The audience murmur on this and Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Order! Order!"

'That didn't go so well…' J thinks worried

"Th-that's right! What he said!" N said with a nod

J then thinks something odd and checks her Court Record and sees the Autopsy Report and then said "Objection! Detective N! There's one thing I want you to clarify for me here." She brings up the Receipt and continued "You say that the victim, Terra Yuki, wrote this note. That he was accusing the defendant, Jaden Yuki? That's really what you're saying?"

"Wh-what? This isn't one of those lawyer tricks, now, is it?" N asked confused. "I mean, of course he wrote it. Who else could have?"

J shakes her head and smiles saying, "You have it backwards, Detective."

"B-backwards?" N asked confused.

"The victim is the only person who absolutely could NOT have written it! J explained bringing up Terra's Autopsy Report saying "This is a report from your department, Detective. 'Immediate death due to a blow from a blunt object.'" She slams her hands saying "He died immediately!"

"But…! N said in surprise

J cuts him off and said "No 'but'-ing you way out of this one, Detective!"

The audience murmur in shock at this revelation and Maccadam bangs the gavel "Order! Order! The defense has a point. Someone who died immediately wouldn't have had the time to write anything down."

"Objection!" Hunter calls out and looks at J saying "Miss. J. I beg your pardon, but when exactly did you obtain that autopsy report?"

"Wh-when…?! It was the day after the murder…" J said wondering what Hunter was getting at.

"The prosecution's point being…?" Maccadam asked confused.

Hunter smiles tutting and said "That autopsy report is outdated, Your Honor."

"Wh-what?!" J asked in shock.

Hunter pulls out some papers and explained "A second autopsy was performed yesterday, at my request! 'Death was almost immediate due to a blow from a blunt object… But there is a possibility the victim lived for several minutes after the blow.'" He smiles "I received these results this morning."

"N-no way!" J said in shock

"Your honor! It's quite easy to imagine that the victim did have time to write 'Jaden'!" Hunter said finishing up his point and bows "That is all."

"I see!" Maccadam said nodding at that.

'Damn you, Hunter!' J thought in annoyance and nervousness 'I should have known you'd have something up your sleeve!'

Hunter smirks at J and said "Why, Miss. J, you look shocked! Something you want to say?"

"Mr. Deamonne…I heard there's nothing you won't do to get your verdict…" J said and slams her hands on the desk "What reason could you possibly have had to request a second autopsy report?"

"Miss. J! The defence will refrain from personal attacks on the prosecution!" Maccadam told her

Hunter smiles and said "No matter, Your Honor…Miss J. Say what you will, the evidence in this report is undeniable. Your Honor, I submit this report to the court."

"U-understood. The court accepts the evidence." Maccadam said and J sees in the Court Record the autopsy report was updated.

"Well, Your Honor? The evidence strongly suggests the victim was identifying the killer." Hunter said.

"I suppose that's the obvious conclusion, yes." Maccadam said nodding. Hunter smiles and bows.

'Darn! This isn't good!' J thinks worried

"The prosecution would like to call its next witness." Hunter states "This poor, innocent girl saw the murder with her own eyes!"

The audience murmur and Maccadam bangs his gavel. "Let the witness Miss Kitty Walker take the stand."

'Exactly what part of her is 'innocent'…?' J thought in confusion as they wait for Kitty to take the stand.

Well J is off to a tough start with being unable to gain ground but now she has to work to find ways to counter Kitty's testimony.
