Hey! I was rereading some of this story and I feel that it definitely needs to be continued. I hope you feel the same. Thank you so much for reading! It means so much to me. :)
Tris's POV
Knock knock knock
My eyes fly open. Someone is at the door. I glance to the couch where Tobias is lying but he's still asleep, curled up beneath the blankets. Suddenly I hear footsteps coming from down the hall. I sit up and position myself in front of Tobias. Emma walks into the room.
"Are you ok Tris? You look like you've seen a ghost."
'Yeah, no I'm fine, but Emma I think you should know-Knock knock knock. "Someone is at the door."
"Heavens, what could they want at this hour?"
"I'm not sure but I don't think you should open it, they could be dangerous."
"Will someone please open the door!?" calls a woman's voice.
"She doesn't sound dangerous, she sounds like a poor lady standing out there in the cold!" "Coming!" Emma shouts towards the door. All the noise woke Tobias.
'What is going on?" He asks, still half asleep. "Where are we?"
"Hey, Tobias, we're staying at Emma's remember?" A look of recondition crosses his face as he tries to sit up.
"Hey, hey, hey, just stay down ok, you were hit in the head pretty hard yesterday. You need to rest." Just then the front door opens and none other than Jeanine Matthews bursts into the living room. My face drains of color. Behind her walks Marcus Eaton, Tobias's father. Tobias makes a sort of squeaking sound like he's gasping for air but can't quite breathe it in. I grab his hand to comfort both him and myself.
"What are you doing here?" I question Jeanine.
"Tris! For goodness sake, these are our guests!" "One being the Mayor!" exclaims Emma. I roll my eyes. Emma gives me a look before turning back to the 'guests'.
"What can I do for you?" She asks. Marcus steps forward and begins speaking.
"I came looking for my son. He disappeared last night and Jeanine was kind enough to show me video footage of him coming here." Marcus gives me a disgusted look.
"You, young lady, are in big trouble for that stunt you pulled with the window, breaking and entering is against the law." Next to me, Tobias coughs, as if trying to clear his throat before speaking.
"Sir," he says in a raspy voice. "I wasn't feeling good last night and asked Tris to come and bring me some medicine but the door was locked so she came in through the window. But when she climbed in she dropped the medicine and it got stuck in the gutter. And then we had to come here to get some more because I knew Emma had some." Jeanine smirks. She must have seen the footage of Tobias attacking the guard and knows exactly why he's lying in bed. Tobias is really a stupid boy if he thinks his father would believe such a blatant lie. I don't even want to imagine what his back will look like tonight. Emma shoots Tobias a knowing glance. She must know what Marcus does to him if. Marcus walks over to the couch and puts his hand on Tobias's forehead. Tobias flinches at the contact. At least he will appear warm from the concussion fever. Marcus seems satisfied for the moment and steps back. I take the opportunity to speak up.
"So if Marcus was looking for his son then what are you doing here?" I ask Jeanine.
"Well Tris, you are going to be taken into custody for breaking and entering but it seems you had permission to come into the house. But we still need to have a talk." She takes a moment to look me up and down. "For obvious reasons," She says with a smile. This remark fills me with rage. How dare she speak to me like that! Jeanine turns back to Emma.
"May I speak with Tris alone please?"
"Of course. The kitchen is empty, it's just down the hall."
"Thank you," Jeanine says with a fake smile plastered on her face. We walk to the kitchen silently. Once we're out of earshot Jeanine grabs me by the arm and pulls me close to her.
"Where is Project N-9 building a base?" She hisses at me.
"I don't know." I force out with equal intensity.
"You exasperating little girl."
"I'm. Not. A. Little. Girl." I spit at her.
"You're acting like one!" "Tell me where the N-9 base is being built!"
"I don't know!" I scream. Just then Emma comes crashing into the kitchen.
"Is everything all right?"
"Yes, yes, uh Marcus and I will be going now. Thank you for your time." As Jeanine walks past me she whispers in my ear.
"You will pay for that."
I've never been this scared before.
Thank you guys so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. I'm sorry that it's a little shorter than the rest of the chapters. I would love it if you could leave a review! I'm open to any suggestions! Thank you!
