Chapter 2. Chaotic Affection

It's been only two days, and Elsa has let the Reaper of the North, an immortal demigod, stay in her home. She liked him, in fact she might be crazy in love with him, but at least she has the decency to let him sleep in another room. After all, it was very cold because of the storm she caused, and she really did want to get to know him better.

It was late in the morning, and Shino was still sleeping in his bed, and Elsa was first and foremost an early riser. Walking down the steps with ice made high heels, she tried her best to make no noise as she was surprising him with breakfast she made. (Just because it's an ice palace doesn't mean she can't have a kitchen).

It was really interesting to see how Shino slept peacefully. He was smiling, but a tear ran down his eye, causing Elsa to put the breakfast down and kneel towards him. She quite honestly felt like giving him a hug. As she got closer, Shino's eyelids began to open, and as he opened them, a tomato faced Elsa was stuck in embarrassment as Shino rubbed his eyelids before noticing the flustered snow queen.

"Oh geez Elsa, you know if you're that interested in me you could just ask me to be next to you." Of course he said this without thinking, as he was half awake and still half asleep.

Elsa, clearly even more embarrassed by his comment, immediately jumped back as she grabbed the breakfast tray and held it out in her defense.

"Don't make assumptions like that I may be interested in you but I'm not that weak!" She calmed down before standing closer again, obviously a little frightened she yelled at him. "I-I made you breakfast, to see if you'd like my cooking. I never cooked much in the kitchen at the palace since maids did that for us, but I made you some eggs with butter biscuits!" She said that last part with as much cuteness and happiness she had.

Shino was appalled by her kindness and selfless act, sat up and held his hands out with anticipation, wanting to tasta Elsa's hard work. He honestly thought it would be delicious, as he had not eaten anything else to eat besides rice and fish most of his life. A western breakfast would be a surprise for him indeed.

"Thank you Elsa, you really are wonderful." He took the plate from her and touched it with the fork provided, taking a bite as his face showed an expression of surprise and delight. The eggs were soft as it was prepared as an omelet. The butter biscuits he grabbed with his hands tasted just as they were described, buttery. and crumbling like bread.

"Elsa, this stuff is amazing! You're a really good cook! You would make a really great wife." He said that genuinely, forgetting that Elsa would probably get very embarrassed by that comment.

Elsa didn't say a word, instead just sitting there with her twirling fingers and her blush kept showing, no matter how hard she tried to hide it.

"Y-You mustn't say such things…It's hard enough you've been so kind to me." She couldn't take her eyes off of him. Sure she would tell herself to be strong and not so easily obtainable, but he made that difficult. It wasn't that he was complimenting her so much, but the fact that his kind flattery was so genuine was what made it so difficult to have a steady ground for herself.

"I have to admit Shino. I've never met a man like you. It's a first for me. You're genuine, kind, and you have powers like I do. Yet you can control them. I cannot. For I've hurt someone with them, and I can't go back to my kingdom now."

Shino sat up as he put the tray to his side before looking up at her.

"So you are a queen then? Who did you hurt? I'm sure it was an honest mistake." Looks like she was the queen of something other than the snow after all.

Elsa began to shake with fear, hurt, sorrow. She had hurt her sister, but she was fearing what she said would hear from him if she told him the truth. While taking a deep breath, she began to speak.

"I had my coronation, as my parents had died during an expedition. My powers were hard to control ever since I was a little girl. They had me isolated from everyone else, and even then I still managed to fail. Fear is what gives me a weakness, and it is what led me to where I am now. I hurt my sister, Anna, when she had come earlier before I met you. Ice has struck her heart, and now I don't know what I'm going to do if she perishes from my curse." She then takes one strong look at Shino with a bit of weary eyes, tears starting to fall out of them as she choked on her words.

"Am…I…a monster for what I've done?"

Shino couldn't believe what he heard. Her own sister was hurt by her powers, and he knew that it was an accident. Maybe a heated argument or something. It couldn't always be one person's fault, as he of all people knew that to the bone. With a sudden movement, he wrapped both his arms tight around her, showing comfort and pity as he began to speak.

"You are not a monster. You only sought to control your powers but the obstacles around you began to tower over you. I can only assume you did this out of fear, and that the ice that struck her was accidental. Do not ever call yourself a monster, for I have done worse than what you have done. If anything, I am the true monster."

Elsa was frightened by the sudden movement, but she began to hold him tight as well, crying in his shoulder as he spoke. He truly understood her, but she didn't think of him as a monster. Was this because of his past experiences with death?

"T-Then don't call yourself a monster! You're kind! Nice! You've only met me for 3 days and yet you don't fear me for my powers! What did you do that makes you a monster! I don't see you as that at all! It's why I'm fond of you Shino!" Covering her lips as her face turned red, she hid herself in his chest while she continued to cry.

Shino chuckled to himself and continued to keep her close, letting her cry out her pain and suffering.

"You're right I'm sorry." He felt bad for putting himself in such low esteem. But he was right. Being an immortal being has shown him how cruel humanity can be.

"I'm sure you and I can…find a way to save your sister."

Elsa was glad to hear such a selfless act from Shino. He was something special.

"Shino, you're too kind. If only we knew a way to do that." Elsa drifted off into depressing thoughts. Shino held on to her hand to try and comfort her and reassure her. I mean he was the reaper, surely he could try something!

Suddenly as they were just starting to have some moments of peace. They heard a roar outside the door as Elsa worryingly ran towards the windows to see a bunch of soldiers fighting a gigantic snowman.

"Woah! How come I didn't see that on my way in?" Shino was impressed that that thing didn't attack him when he stepped foot into the palace.

"Never mind that! Those men are from my kingdom! They must have come to take me home and imprison me!" Elsa became even more worried as she noticed that some were starting to get into the castle.

"Shino, you must hurry! Escape while you still can! I'm sorry that we couldn't have more time together!" As she was convincing him to leave, two men in red looking winter uniforms came running in, cornering the two of them.

Shino, sensing danger, immediately out Elsa behind her and unsheathed his sword. The two men began to aim at him instead with their crossbows.

"Move aside. We have no need to hurt you." The two men cocked their arrows back into firing position, which only made Shino strengthen his grip on the hilt of his blade.

"You're planning to kill this woman? You'll have to go through me. Pathetic attempts at taking life will only earn you hell, gentleman." Elsa became even more afraid. She was now worried Shino would become a casualty of her own mistakes, even though his immortality slipped through her mind as fear engulfed it. She then shot a blast of ice towards the soldiers, wanting to protect him as well.

"Stay away!" She shouted as they continued to advance towards them. "Shino please. I don't want you to risk your life for me! It's not worth it!"

An arrow was shot straight at Elsa, but as she was about to block it, Shino got in front of it as the arrow bounced off him, but it did hurt him, just not a lot. Now knowing they had murderous intent, he launched himself towards them as the fired another arrow towards him which he blocked with his sword.

Charging towards them he sheathed his blade not wanting to hurt them, and when the soldier attempted to fight back he socked his chin before kicking him against the wall, causing the soldier to lose consciousness. As Shino turned to fight the other soldier, Elsa was pinning him towards the window with a barrier of ice. As the other soldier was close to falling off the ledge, another man with several other soldiers came towards Elsa, witnessing the carnage that had unfolded.

"Queen elsa! The man shouted. "Don't be the monster they fear you are!"

As Elsa realized her actions were causing the men to look in horror, she lowered her hands, and Shino breathed a huge sigh of relief. But suddenly, the previously defeated soldier had regained consciousness, and attempted to shoot one last arrow at Elsa, but as he would open fire, the man lunged himself towards him, causing the arrow to fire at the chandelier, sending it falling down.

Shino, whos hyperactive instincts have now taken over him, saw what would unfold in slow motion, and ran towards Elsa who was standing in fear. He had tackled her at the right moment, but as he had tackled her out of the way, the chandelier fell onto the floor, shattering and hitting Shino with a few ice shards, but luckily it only caused him a minor pinch.

As the carnage cleared, Elsa opened her eyes and saw what had unfolded, realizing Shino was holding her and had ice shards in his back. "Shino! Are you okay?!" She began to worry as they got up from the ground.

"I'm alright Elsa. Luckily the immortality protects me." He chuckled slightly, which cause Elsa to smile as her interest was unharmed. She had seen the indenting proof of affection he had for her. He saved her life from evil soldiers.

As the two began to dust themselves off, the soldiers engulfed around them knocking Shino down with their swords, causing Elsa to be thrown back into a frightful rage.

"Please don't hurt him! He was only protecting me from those soldiers!" Elsa's words were unheard by most as the man in charge came towards the two. "Prince Hans you must listen! He's done nothing wrong!"

"He attacked two of the Duke's personal guard. I have to take him in for that crime alone." Hans said reasoning with her.

This only caused Elsa to become even more upset, as Shino and herself were out in hand restraints. "He was protecting me from them! They tried to kill me! Shino only knocked him out!"

"Who are you? Answer now or I'll have them knock you down more." Hans sounded more draconian than he looks.

"I'm Shino. A stranger from nowhere in particular." He wasn't going to just admit who he was. This appeased him as the guards began to lead them out of the castle. "I'm sorry to have caused you such trouble Elsa."

"Don't worry! When we get back I'm sure the counsel will see it better than him." Elsa assured as they were lead back to the castle, where none knew what fate had in store for them.
