Chapter 11 (Adrian) The Suspicion
He just disappeared! I started following Luke for the past three days and I finally found out where he was going. But I still can't really find him. Bleh, whatever. The point is, Luke just disappeared when he reached the top of Half-Blood Hill. I poked around there for a while but I couldn't find anything odd. After poking around for an hour, I made my way back to the Athena cabin. Malcolm and Andrea were waiting for me by the looks of it.
"Where have you been?" questioned Andrea.
I rubbed my neck. "I took a walk." They didn't look convinced. That's why I don't like children of Athena. Everyone is just too darn smart. "I went to Thalia's tree, alright? I talked to her tree."
"Oh. Sorry." Malcolm said. Andrea gave me a hug. She then walked back into the cabin and closed the door, though not before giving a look before she went in. Malcolm and I stood there for a while looking at each other, trying to read each other's minds and emotions. I guess he failed because after a few minutes he sighed and went back in. I followed him and went to sleep.
The next day, I went straight to Chiron and told him about my suspicions.
"We can't afford to send a reconnaissance squad to find out where exactly he's going." He lectured. "I'm sorry Adrian but we can't be sure that Luke really is the spy. You'll need more solid proof."
I felt angry. "Chiron, what exactly do you mean by 'more solid proof'? Is my proof still not enough? Are you kidding me? Gone at night? Disappearing at Thalia's tree? What else do you want?"
"My dear boy, it's just you that saw it. Perhaps you should bring someone else?" he looked a bit miffed at me being this mad.
"I'll bring Andrea. She's more capable than anybody else at camp."
"Alright, but come back immediately and report to me after you've seen Luke."
I nodded and left. If Luke thought he could be smart with me then let him do it. Did he forget that I was a child of Athena, the goddess of war and wisdom? Probably not. Is he being a prat? Probably. What he didn't know was that I'm going after him again. Tonight.
Back at Athena cabin, Andrea pestered me with questions. "Are you sure about this? Are you sure you want me? What about Malcolm? What about the others? Does Luke know about you following him?"
I sighed. "I've already told you all of this. Luke is acting unnaturally weird. We need to find out what he's doing and where he's going."
"But why me?
"Because you are practically the next Annabeth."
She blushed and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. "That was sweet of you."
I grinned. "Yeah. How come you say it's sweet but Annabeth doesn't?"
She gave me a slap. "Maybe because I'm not Annabeth?"
I laughed. "So, are you in?"
She looked at me. "Yes."
