A Witch, A Wolf & A Vampire

Chapter 9: Chimera

Iris found herself doing something she hadn't done since Hogwarts, she was in a created duelling room in her home, warded up with every spell she could think of and even asking Rosalie to take Teddy and spend a few hours with him and Esme. Leah was back with her parents on the Res, preparing for the family dinner with Sam and Emily. She was very thankful to have the time to herself, even her vampire mothers were occupied with their duties and preparing for their return to Volterra. She had promised she would come to Volterra once the school semester was finished and that seemed to placate them with only Didyme remaining behind while Sulpicia and Athenodora returned to rule, much to their chagrin.

She was not proud that she was capable of such magic, but at the same time being the Mistress of Death came with many expectations but also many benefits. Her spell repertoire was unlike any others in the world, having access to powerful family grimoires from five great families in Gryffindor (champion as deemed by the sword of Gryffindor), Slytherin (by Conquest), Potter (by birth), Black (by birth and adoption) and lastly Peverell (By contract with Death). She wasn't dumb, she knew that there was likely no one who could beat her, voldemort in his prime perhaps.

The release of her magic felt freeing and as she sent wave after wave to destroy the dummies only to animate them again, it was a good few hour until she felt her magic had calmed down enough.

When she exited and dismantled the training room, she had created there was a phoenix waiting for her by her window, she smiled at Fawkes, the bird having bonded with her shortly after the death of her mentor. These days Fawkes mostly slept in the Headmaster or Headmistress' office unless Iris needed him or he was asked to take a letter to her.

"Hey Fawkes, what do you have for me?" She asked opening the window for him.

The phoenix trilled gently before offering her a scroll with an official Hogwarts seal on if, she took it from the offered limb and gave him some gentle caressed while she broke the seal and the scroll flew in front of her and the friendly exhausted voice of her once Head of House now Headmistress filled the room.

'Dear Iris,

I hope this message finds you well. While I would love to catch up with my favourite troublemaker. This message is to officially invite you as the guest of honour to the One-Year anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. You are able to bring anyone you wish, and I would hope that you would be willing to share some words for the friends and families of the fallen.

Please send me your response with Fawkes,

Best wishes.

Minerva McGonagall.

Headmistress of Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.'

Iris chuckled before looking at her calendar, she had been in America for 9 months now and already the One-Year mark of one of the bloodiest battles in Magical Britain having taken place. She had lost many friends in that battle; it wouldn't sit right with her as the leader of their rebellion if she didn't say anything.

A knock on her door interrupted her reminiscing, she walked over to it and opened it to see Daphne there once again with a picnic basket in her hand.

"Hey… were you just training?" Daphne asked, her pupils dilating as she looked at a sweat covered Iris who was in Yoga pants and a sports bra.

"Daphne… I thought I told you I didn't want to see you again," Iris sighed, rubbing her temples.

"I know, but I decided to ignore that. Because what we have is worth me fighting for," Daphne replied.

"So, I thought we could have a picnic, I could tell you about my travels and you could tell me about Teddy and… muggle school," she added.

"I… Daphne, no. We're over, we've been over ever since that night you wouldn't stand by my side," Iris said, though she looked away.

It was hard, even knowing she had a mate in Rosalie and an imprint in Leah. Daphne was still her first true love, and those feeling don't just evaporate. If Daphne had showed up before she had gotten to know Rosalie really well, she may have gotten her back, but Iris now had her heart on her sleeve with the blonde vampire and was working towards the same with her shifter.

"Come on Iris, just one picnic? It can't hurt just to chat. Or do you need to freshen up first? I remember how much you loved shower sex after a training session," Daphne purred, and Iris shuddered involuntarily.

"Stop, please Daphne. Just stop, we can't be doing this. I need you to move on, find someone else that isn't me," she pleaded, a soft hand touched her cheek.

"There is no one who is more worthy for me than you Iris, I won't give up on you. You and I belong together, you just don't realise it yet," Daphne took a step forward only for a hand to clamp down on her arm removing it forcefully.

"I believe… my daughter told you to leave," a voice hissed, Daphne was staring in the coal black eyes of Athenodora, her face threatening all the while Sulpicia and Didyme had flashed to Iris' side, pulling her a bit away and positioning themselves in defensive stances.

"Very well, I will leave for now. Picnics got all your favourites in it, treacle tart included."

Felix and Demetri had left after Athenodora had told them that Jane, Luna and Sanguine would remain with Carmen and Eleazar while Luna worked with the ICW's team and their investigation into the truth of what happened to the Egyptian coven. Sulpicia had sent a message to Tanya that they were to escort Benjamin and Kebi to Volterra so that Sulpicia could read them and see the threat with her own eyes.

The Vampires did their best to stay out of the way of the group sent, watching on fascination as they worked to piece together what minimal evidence there was. Jane was constantly hovering around Luna who was animatedly speaking with the lead investigator assigned to them, Captain Henry Mills of the United States.

"We've been able to reconstruct as much as we can with what little was left, I hate to say it Miss Lovegood, but these guys were good at covering their tracks," Captain Mills said, as he read the report his team had just finished compiling.

"So definitely Magical cover up?" Luna asked, he nodded.

"All the data is being fed into the projecting pensieve as we speak. We'll be able to get what evidence was left through the magical echoes in a few moments, but I don't think we'll have much," he said.

It was only a few more minutes later that it was ready, with Luna's signal they played, and the projection took life around the room mesmerising the vampires present except Sanguine. True to Captain Mills' words, the battle that took place with very hard to discern aside from vampire screams and body parts being thrown around, Luna looked on passively before her eyes narrowed.

"Stop!" She called, immediately the playback was paused.

"Rewind by 29 seconds," again the order was followed.

"The mirror, do you see it?" Luna asked pointing at the mirror which had broken during the conflict, one of the shards on the ground caught a reflection.

The reflection showed the malformed head of a wolf-humanoid creature, but its features were all twisted and seemed to be mixed with other species, one thing was very clear, it was a chimera and a made one at that.

"A chimera… fuck, how did you even catch that?" Captain Mills asked.

"I have an eye for detail… we'll need to report to the ICW. It looks like the base used was a werewolf, I think we can start linking missing creatures' cases now," Luna said with a frown.

"Are we missing something?" Carmen asked concerned.

"Sorry Miss…?"

"Denali."

"Right, Miss Denali. For the past year we've had reports of various missing persons cases reported amongst different humanoid magical species. We initially thought they were all different as they seemed to be randomised, however, Miss Lovegood's assertion makes it clear that the cases aren't as singular as we thought. Which means there is a link to a potential terrorist organisation, potentially looking to make humanoid chimeras for one reason or another," Captain Mills reasoned, Luna nodded.

"We should have the Volturi check around with all of the known covens and nomad groups to see if any of their members have gone missing," Sanguine suggested.

"I'll give the Queen's a call, obviously the Egyptian Coven have been hit and most of their members either dead or kidnapped. We'll need to figure out what's going on and respond to it accordingly," Jane said.

"We will return to Denali and report to Tanya, perhaps we should join with the Cullen's in the Olympic Peninsula and bring Benjamin and Kebi with us. If something that can take out a vampire coven is coming having larger numbers is preferred," Eleazar suggested, Jane frowned but did not comment.

"I will inform Iris as well as the British Ministry about what's going on, she may want to investigate herself," Luna sighed.

"Are we going to go back the same way we got here?" Jane asked nervously.

"It'll be the quickest method," Sanguine replied.

"You'll get used to it baby," Luna said gently, Jane shivered but nodded.

"We'll finish off here and I'll send the report to the ICW, I'll have the guys in the office start seeing if there's any connections between the missing creatures and the attack," Captain Mills said.

"Thank you, Captain."

Activity on the Res had never been more active than it had been in the past few days, Leah had been doing whatever her mother had told her to in order to prepare for the special dinner where her Imprints would be joining them and officially be introduced to the Pack as her partners and therefore afforded everything within Pack law. A few of the elders weren't very happy about that fact but Sam had stood his ground citing their exact laws and throwing their argument back in their faces. The common argument from Quill Snr. Was that Rosalie being a 'Cold One' as well as being a Cullen and was therefore a part of the treaty meaning she couldn't come on their land. And his objections to Iris came down to 'she's a Witch, she's probably bewitched Leah into believing she's her imprint', that had been met with a slap from Sue Clearwater. Sam had simply stated that the laws outlined that 'Any Imprint of a Spirit Warrior is an honorary member of the tribe and should be afforded all the benefits and protections that being a tribe member contained' as well as the fact that he and the other wolves had felt Leah's feelings for her imprints when shifted and knew them to be real especially for the ones who also had their own imprints already.

It was now Friday and Leah had finished helping her mother and Emily with everything they had needed while the boys were doing the heavy lifting, she had been ushered inside to shower by them and had just finished.

"Alright, we have everything set here. Why don't you go and bring your two imprints here, we'll be ready when you come back," Sue ordered, Leah gave her mum a hug before jogging to her car.

When Leah arrived at Iris' house the three Queen's were around along with Rosalie whom she greeted with a kiss, Rosalie was wearing tight fitting denim jeans which made her ass look positively sinful, along with a knitted sweater and some black boots.

"You look amazing Rose," Leah purred, Rosalie rolled her eyes with a smile.

"Keep it in your pants you horny dog," her voice was void of any threats and just a hint of teasing.

"Girls," Athenodora said getting their attention, crossing her arms as Leah approached the three queens.

"What is your intention tonight with our daughter?" Didyme asked, a smirk on her face.

"I intend to introduce her to my family officially as my imprint and take care of her," Leah replied, playing the game they were.

"And you'll have her home by a suitable hour?" Athenodora asked.

"Of course, your majesty, I will have the princess home by no later than 11:30," Leah replied.

"Very well, we shall allow you to kidnap our daughter for the evening," Sulpicia purred, a mischievous grin on her face.

When Iris came down the stairs, she was wearing a pair of white skinny jeans, a lose long sleeve shirt and had her auburn hair curled and then brushed out. Leah and Rosalie both inhaled at the same time, jaws dropping at how Iris could look so elegant while also dressing simple, perhaps it was the bond. She approached the two and gave each of them a kiss before heading to the shoe rack and sliding on a pair of brown boots and then grabbing a furred winter jacket and sliding it on.

"You look beautiful," Leah and Rosalie said at the same time, Iris blushed.

"Am I under dressed? You told us to dress casually but we're meeting the full family," Iris asked nervously.

"You're perfect," Leah was quick to say, her own outfit was simple. A pair of blue jeans, some sneakers, a plain black tank and plaid shirt with buttons undone so it was like a jacket, not very effective if she were human but she wasn't so the weather wouldn't bother her.

"You'll be safe won't you dear?" Didyme asked, giving Iris a hug.

"Yes, I'll be safe. I'll be with Rosalie and amongst a pack of shifters. Plus, I have my wand," Iris replied rolling her eyes.

"We don't doubt that you can fight, I saw as much from Victoria and Laurant's memories of your incident with James. But it doesn't make us any less concerned for you, little flower," Sulpicia murmured, pulling Iris from Didyme's arms into her own.

"Alec and Heidi will be at the treaty line should you need help, we care not for the treaty should you be in danger, the three of us will also come as soon as we are able if anything happens," Athenodora followed the same actions as her other two mates and took in a deep breath of Iris' scent.

"Okay, I got it. You'll all be within helping distance, stop embarrassing me Mums," Iris groaned, the three women beamed before Athenodora let her go back to her mate and imprint.

"It's our job to embarrass you sweetheart," Athenodora smirked.

"Besides, think of it as practice for when you're doing the same thing for Teddy," Sulpicia added.

Iris, Leah and Rosalie all headed outside, and Leah was heading over to her truck to drive before Rosalie stopped her.

"How about we take mine? Show's we're all together," she gestured to her three-seat convertible.

"Sure, Iris can be in the middle," Leah suggested, Iris pouted at her two girlfriends.

"I'm not a child!" She protested.

"Your mothers would disagree and your short baby," Rosalie replied, Iris pouted more crossing her arms earning a giggle from the blonde and a smirk from Leah.

Iris did sit in the middle; Rosalie was in the driver's seat and Leah on her other side with an arm wrapped around Iris comforting her while Rosalie drove with a hand on Iris' thigh.

The drive to the Res was short and Iris enjoyed the feeling of the wind, it felt like she was flying though part of that was likely because Rosalie liked to drive fast, very fast. She did, however, pause as she approached the treaty line, slowing down to a nervous stop as she looked over to Leah.

"Are you sure this is okay?" She asked hesitantly. Before Leah could answer the sound of a Jeep approaching came and Sam, Jacob Black, Paul and Seth all arrived at the treaty line.

"Hey Leah, just thought we'd meet you at the line to escort you onto the Res," Seth said excitedly, Leah smiled at him.

"And to assure you, Cullen, that you are allowed on our lands, only you though," Sam said with a nod, Rosalie returned it and began to follow Sam's jeep.

As they arrived at Leah's home, they found the gathering already in full swing with Sue and Emily organising the food while the rest of the pack and imprints were mingling and chatting, though they notably quietened down as Sam's jeep pulled in followed by Rosalie's convertible. Leah hopped out and opened the door for Iris while Rosalie hopped out herself and joined the pair.

"Rosalie, here," Iris said handing Rosalie a potion, she took it gratefully and downed it in moments then watched mesmerised as body adjusted to have a heartbeat and then some hunger. She knew this potion was expensive and Iris got it for her so she could experience human moments even as a vampire and she was grateful to have such a loving mate, the wolves were surprised by this but didn't ask.

"There's some people I'd like you to meet first, come with me," Leah said, aware of what Iris had done but hadn't thought to actually ask about it in detail, her witch imprint was certainly impressive.

"Lead the way," Iris said, taking Leah's hand and then pulling Rosalie with her. They approached who the latter two assumed was Leah's mother who was busy ordering an older man who was manning a large BBQ grill and next to her was another woman with scars on her face and they were joined by the energetic Seth.

"Mum, Dad, Seth, Emily, these are Iris Potter and Rosalie Hale. My imprints," Leah said looking at the two with bright smiles.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Clearwater, Mr. Clearwater, Emily and Seth," Iris said giving a curtsey. She was immediately pulled into a hug from Sue.

"None of that, you are Leah's imprint and while we don't understand why Leah and Miss Hale never connected before. We are thrilled that her wolf has found its soulmates," she said following up with a hug for Rosalie, surprised by the warmth.

"I'm sorry, I thought you cold ones were supposed to be… cold," she apologised.

"Iris is a Witch; she gave me a potion that allows me to have human experienced for a few hours. I'll be warm to touch and able to eat for about the next 4 hours," Rosalie explained nervously.

"Hmph… a leech will always be a leech and no amount of hocus pocus can change that," Harry Clearwater grumbled earning an offended "Dad!" From Leah and a hissed "Harry!" From Sue.

"While you may call it Hocus Pocus, magic is in fact very real and very powerful. Mr. Clearwater, you will find that there are many things that you didn't think were possible previously that are possible with magic," Iris said, Harry just shrugged indifferently.

"Sorry about him dears, make yourselves at home. The rest of the pack have been dying to meet Leah's imprints properly," Sue explained.

"Can I ask what happened?" Iris asked Emily who paused, Sam was next to her at moment's notice.

"You mean this?" Emily gestured to her face.

"Yeah, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Sam and I had a fight, he lost control and shifted accidentally. One of his paws got me, he's been regretful ever since, but we've got to live with it," Emily smiled sadly while Sam looked upset, Iris nodded her understanding.

"Would you like me to fix that for you? It wouldn't take much, and I don't mind," Iris offered, and Emily's eyes went wide.

"You can do that?" a nod was what she got back.

"It would be painless, though you might feel a tingle and a bit numb for an hour or so. We've developed these kinds of spells for battle situations and then they were further expanded upon for cosmetic reasons," Iris shrugged, remembering how Lavender had learned to erase her scars from becoming a werewolf.

"If you don't mind, I would be grateful," Emily said hesitantly, Iris nodded and flicked her wand into her hand, Sam tensed and watched her with a keen eye.

Iris noticed but paid no attention as she focused her magic into her wand and cast the charm, around them the gathered group watched as Emily's scarred face began to repair itself until no trace of a scar could be seen and she looked like she once had. Iris then conjured a mirror and handed it to Emily who looked at it and touched her face in awe while Sam looked like he was about to break down.

"Thank you!" Emily squealed, pulling Iris into a crushing hug and grinning, Iris smiled back and looked to Sam.

"I know what it's like to maim and hurt someone you love especially when you can't control your anger, you can let go of your guilt now," Iris said softly, Sam smiled and respectfully asked for his own hug, looking to Leah who nodded her permission.

"Thank you, Iris, you have given me something that I could never hope to repay you for," Sam replied.

"Well, come on then! Join the party!" Emily encouraged, handing Iris and Rosalie plates before pushing them into the grouped-up pack, who were quick to bombard Iris with questions about magic, in the meantime Emily and Sam excused themselves for a few minutes while Sue looked at Harry with a glare and a hand on her hip.

"Our daughter's imprint can work miracles Harry, best stay on her good side," she warned.

After the demonstration with Emily, Iris and Rosalie were swiftly accepted as honorary members of the Pack as Leah's imprints, Rosalie had even started to calm down and began talking while eating food which definitely helped ease the wolves. They met Jarred and his imprint Kim, Paul and his imprint Rebecca who was also Jacob's older sister, Quill and his imprint Vanessa another girl from the Res, and Embry didn't have an imprint yet. Colin, Brady and Seth were the youngest shifters and none of them had any imprints yet either. Jacob's father, Billy Black was best friends with Bella's father Charlie, and he was in attendance as well though he did eye Rosalie with some suspicion. Sue chatted a lot with Iris, and the other imprint partners and even showed them pictures of Teddy, all of the girls were gushing over him and had made Iris promise to bring Teddy to the Res some time to meet the rest of them so they could spoil him. Between his Vampire grandparents and Rosalie's family, Leah's Shifter pack, and of course their friends, Iris knew Teddy was going to be one spoilt child with all the love he deserves.

Hours had passed and the sun was starting to set, everyone was relaxing as the bonfire provided warmth as they all spoke and told each other stories. Then the screams started, and everyone was on high alert.

"What the hell!" Rosalie cursed; the wolves all shot up.

"Imprints into the house!" Sam barked, they all hurried in except Rosalie and Iris, Leah looked to them and was about to speak.

"No, I'm a witch and Rose is a vampire," Iris growled, taking her wand out as the wolves shifted and ran towards the noise, Rosalie kept up at vampire speed and Iris pulled her firebolt from her handbag and mounted it before speeding off and catching up to them then overtaking them entirely.

The scene she arrived to reminded her so much of the War, the poor victims being torn apart as the creatures attacked. A woman was tackled by one of the creatures, screaming as her body was ripped in two by meaty claws.

Iris jumped off her broom, rolling and flicking her wand into her hand she fired a banishing charm at the creature before it managed to attack another human. It flew into the nearby tree completely breaking through it. This caught the attention of the other creatures, and they stopped their assault on the humans as they focused on her. Her eyes took in their appearances, the amalgamation of flesh on humanoid bodies with various species of non-human magical creatures forced onto one body. There were three of them and all of them were different, she had to guess it meant a different base sub-human species.

The wolves and Rosalie came upon the scene soon after, pausing as they watched Iris casting spells while moving with speed that rivalled Rosalie and even the fastest of their wolves keeping all three of the monsters at bay.

"Clear out the people!" Iris shouted, Rosalie was quick to follow while Sam sent Colin, Brady and Seth to help.

Sam, Leah, Paul, Jacob, Quill and Embry all joined the fight running in and tackling two of the creatures between them. Sam and Paul took one while Quill, Jacob and Embry took another. Leah jumped at the one Iris was fighting, sinking her claws into the creature and causing it to hiss in pain before it threw her off, slamming her into a tree nearby and winding her.

"Leah!" Iris shouted alarmed, Leah shook her head and snarled.

Rosalie returned moments later and joined her two mates seeming to attempt an attack from the creatures supposed blind spot while Leah attacked, only to be kicked away before Leah was thrown herself. Iris' spells were flying at the thing with speed and power but each one that slammed into it only seemed to slow it or be absorbed by its magically resistant hide.

She could see that the other wolves were having problems as she spied cuts and limps on Embry and Quill while Jacob did his best to defend them and hold it off. Iris realised her Holly and Phoenix feather wand wasn't going to do the job, she growled as she found an opening and sent a wall of flames to separate the wolves from the attacking creatures. The wolves jumped back alarmed while the creatures all turned to Iris who was sweating angry.

"I need you all to stay back! This is going to get too dangerous and if you're not out of the way I could accidentally hurt you!" Iris shouted; they looked confused before Iris changed in front of them.

The invisibility cloak formed around her shoulders as the brand of the Deathly Hallows glowed on her wrist, the stench of death and decay surrounded her as she held the Elder Wand in her left hand and her holly wand in her right, black obsidian ring glistening on her right index finger, as she glided forwards, the very ground beneath her dying as she send a cutting curse at the first creature to recover and jump at her. This curse cut it's arm off, spilling oozing black blood onto the ground. It looked alarmed as it paused briefly, gazing where its arm used to be. It didn't have a chance to recover as the next spell tore it up even more before the following volley split it into several body parts.

The other two creatures hesitated to attack, now sufficiently alarmed at the destruction their third was given. Iris didn't give them much chance to recover as spell after spell flew from the Elder and Holly wands, they began to dodge as swiftly as they can and retreat towards the ocean. It would seem they had some kind of self preservation instincts after all.

The wolves and Rosalie watched, all of them were shocked at the display the witch they were laughing and talking with just minutes ago, was giving as she pushed the attacking creatures back from the Res and towards the ocean. The dead body of one thrown around the battle area dismissed as a threat all the while the stench of death and decay followed Iris' movements. All of the wolves had a singular thought, they were glad that Iris was on their side and Leah's imprint because they definitely didn't want the girl's magic directed at them in a harmful manner.

The two remaining creatures, even if one lost half of its right forearm, managed to reach the ocean and dive into the waters to escape. Iris stood on the waters edge watching for any sign of a possible reappearance or any further threat. After a tense few minutes she allowed her body to relax and the Deathly Hallows to return to their dormant stage, she stumbled and caught herself as magical exhaustion started taking over her body. It was at that moment that a different version of the creatures shot up out of the water, leaping at Iris who went wide-eyed at the attack.

"Iris!" Rosalie screamed moving to attempt to get to get mate as Leah also pushed off from her position.

Iris watched as if time slowed as the creature's claws neared her, however, she felt two pairs of arms wrap around her body and pull her away while watching as the amazon complexion of Athenodora appeared in front of her, what appeared to be a sword in hand as she slammed it into the chest of the creature, skewering it and causing a screech of pain which was soon silenced as the creature was then swiftly beheaded by the same Queen, black eyes and a growl on her face. Iris turned her head to find herself pulled into the safety of Didyme and Sulpicia, who also had black eyes and snarls on their faces as they watched their third Queen dispatch of the threat to their daughter.

"Are you okay dear!" Didyme asked, concern on her face.

"What the hell is that thing?" Sulpicia asked.

"It's a Chimera," the serious voice of Luna Lovegood said as she appeared with Jane and Sanguine.
