Chapter Four:
"Land Ho!" Clint hollered as he pushed the button to activate the intercom. Breaking at a sprint, he darted to the sealed door that would allow him to enter the flying ship. Slamming the door behind him, Clint almost slammed into Natasha. "Land Ho!" He repeated himself unnecessarily.
Natasha rolled her eyes at his antics, before turning around to lead the way to the bridge. As they entered the room, it became clear that all action was taking place here. Thor was gripping his hammer tightly in his hands, while Tony was suiting up in his high tech armor. Steve for some reason was wearing some kind of costume that could be described as the American Flag (I don't know how to describe his uniform...), a shield that matched his new outfit in his hands, Banner was taking breathing exercises, ready to join them at a moments notice as the big guy.
Tony arched an eyebrow as he looked over at the two newcomers. "Where's your uniforms? Also code names. I'm Iron Man."
"Captain America." Steve offered as he shifted just slightly, lifting his new shield up for all to see as he stroke a pose.
Bruce shrugged as he glanced around nervously. "Hulk when he's out, Banner when it's just me."
"You're using your last name as your code name?" Natasha shook her head, having some how changed without anyone noticing into a skintight black outfit with gold colored wrist cuffs and a black domino mask. "Also it's Black Widow to you boys." She smirked as she struck a pose with her fists on her hips.
Clint shook his head, confusion creasing his brow. "How did you change so quickly? You were dressed normal just ten seconds ago!"
"A woman never reveals her secrets." Natasha deadpanned as she leaned against a wall. "Come on Clint, your the only not that hasn't changes yet."
Groaning to himself, Clint left the room. A few minutes later he came back in wearing a purple top that had the sleeves cut off of it, matching purple pants, a wrist guard, a purple mask that had two 'horns' that curved upwards, the letter H between them (His outfit from Earth's Mightiest Heroes). A quiver full of arrows was slung across his back, though he didn't appear to have a bow on him. "Say hello to Hawkeye." He reached into the quiver, pulling out a collapsible bow, which he shook into full length within one second.
Tony turned to the complex high tech control panel that controlled the ship. "We're going down... retracting the walls and roof for the top floor and bridge so as to look semi-like a normal ship." As he spoke, he turned levers and pushed buttons, the walls and everything retracting as he mentioned it. "Raising the mast and sails..." The masts needed to move a normal ship rose up out of the floor, sails unfurling as they landed with a small splash into the ocean. "Everyone get into position!" His helmet slammed shut over his face, effectively hiding him from view.
Clint didn't hesitate, he smoothly climbed up the tallest mast to the crow's nest nestled at the top. Settling down in there, He grabbed a telescope that was in there, using it to stare down at the main land that they were approaching. Of course, he wasn't looking for a spot for them to pull up to...he was looking for Loki and his army. Reaching a hand up, he pressed a finger against a small devise nestled in his ear. "Guys I don't see any sign of...whoa!" A yelp escaped him as something whizzed by his ear, nearly knocking him over. "Avengers Target on our Six O'clock! I repeat! Target at Six O'clock!"
Whirling around, Clint found himself suddenly not needing the telescope to look, after all it was kinda hard to miss the gigantic army that made the SHIELD pirate kingdom look puny. Shoving the telescope back into its slotted home inside of the crow's nest, he pulled out his bow and started shooting. "Do Not let the enemy reach the Main Land! I repeat, do not let them reach the main land!" Steve's voice crackled through the device, letting Clint know that he was free to try out the new trick arrows that Tony had made him. "Let's hope that this whole Avenger thing doesn't completely fail us now, before we really get started."
~Meanwhile on the Mainland...~
It was a beautiful day has a young couple walked along, holding hands as they giggled to each other. A loud explosion however caught their attention. Startled, they, along with a rapidly growing crowd, walked over to the docks to see what was clearly a large other-worldly army invading the massive city. Panic quickly swept through the population has everyone ran for cover. Several police officers took to shooting at the incoming invaders while their superiors called the army in. The invaders landed and started shooting back...blowing up entire city blocks in the process. A rookie bravely tried to take down one of the invaders, only to land on his back, the invader pointing his high tech gun straight at him. He squeezed his eyes shut, believing this was the end... an explosive going off what above his head made him flinch. Realizing he was still alive, he opened his eyes to see a strangely dressed man standing between him and the invader, a large circular shield held up confidently in front of him.
The man glanced, his blue eyes that he could see through the mask he wore glinting with kindness. "Are you okay sir?" Shakily the rookie nodded his head. With a curt nod, the man turned back to the fight before him. Leaping forward, he slammed his shield into an unsuspecting invader, knocking them out instantly. "Avengers! Report!"
All of the officers were confused about that, until an arrow whizzed by, followed closely by a purple clad archer. "I need a good vantage point to take these guys out, Cap."
Captain America grunted as he beat up another member of Loki's army. "That'll be a problem, unless... Iron Man! Take Hawkeye to the roofs. He should get the vantage point he wants up there!"
"On it!" Iron Man swooped down, snagging the archer up before flying towards the rooftops.
Captain America narrowed his eyes as he went back to the fight. "Widow! I want you on the East End of town! Banner, I need you to send Hulk to the West Side. Think he can handle it?" He must have received a response since he gave his head a quick nod. "Good. Thor! Cover Widow! If you see Loki, tell us immediately!"
A bellow of 'aye' startled them, causing them to jump, just as Thor flew by, undeterred by a mask like everyone else. The officers glanced at each other, bewilderment slipping in. Who were these guys fighting their fight for them?!
A/N: Hmm, still no reviews. Boo. I don't bite, honest. We've now approached the fight for the Mainland... which means we only have one or two chapters left before the Epilogue. Fun! I just need to get a piratey title for... no wait. I'm not writing Yo Ho Oh No cause no one has favorited, followed, or even reviewed this whole story. Mega-Boo. Still no idea what I'm gonna call it, but I was really looking forward to the third book...our favorite spider comes enters the scene in that one!
