A man, almost 49 years old, who is about 6"3 in height is brewing coffee for himself and for his younger sister, he is at home at his condominium, wearing a gray t-shirt and black sweatpants. It was a weekend, Sunday exactly and he wasn't assigned to lead any emergency mission for the day, which went exactly to plan, because his sister called him a few days ago, telling him that she would have to temporarily stay at his place whilst she finds an apartment that will suitable for her for a long time, he got confused over his sister's sudden decision to move, but he didn't question her any further and supports her instead. Her boxes are temporarily stored in his spare bedroom, where she will also be staying. He told her that she can stay for as long as she wants and that it will make him happy that they are back in the same place again since they were teenagers. But she is set on just staying temporarily, she doesn't want to be a burden to her older brother again.

Placing the first coffee cup on the machine's dispenser, he quickly glances at the woman in the living room, she had her hand under her chin, seemingly too deep in her thoughts to notice anything. To him, Claire acted nothing like her normal self ever since he saw her on a late afternoon knocking on his front door. He knows his sister very well and this sudden change of attitude surely worried him. He looks back at the cup and places the second one, a few seconds of waiting at the hot drinks are ready to serve, he placed both cups on top of a small plate and brought it to the living room, putting it on top of the coffee table, in front of Claire, while he sits on the other chair with his coffee in hand, Taking a sip while observing his sister, it's like she hadn't noticed him there.

"Claire?", he breaks the silence and she seems to flinch upon hearing the man's voice, her eyes fell on her brother, "Your drink's gonna get cold.", he nods to the hot cup on the table. "I'm sorry Chris but I don't think I can drink coffee right now, you can have it if you want.", she refused the coffee as kind as she can to not disregard her brother's efforts in making one, she just doesn't know if she's allowed to have caffeine now that she is in her current situation.

Chris was very confused now, she has always loved a sip of brewed coffee in the morning, this is the first time she's denied a drink since she started having it, "What's the matter then?, you've been acting strange. I thought as your brother, you would tell me your problems so that I can help you fix it.", he asks as calmly as he can but firmly.

"I don't think you can fix this Chris.", she replied, in a low toned voice as if embarrassed. "Then at least tell me Claire, just so I know what's been going on in my sister's life.", he is practically begging her at this point, as the only the family he has left, he is always worried about her whenever she acted abnormally, whenever he does not see her or not. The last time he was terrified for his sister's life was when she almost turned into one of those dreaded things in Alcatraz.

Claire contemplates about it for a minute, she doesn't know how to break this down to her brother, is he going mad at her?, disappointed?, sad?, joyful?, "I uhh, I'm-", she just can't say the word and she stops. She wants to be as truthful as possible to Chris but this time, it was very hard to do so.

Chris sighs giving up, "If you can't tell me then I understand, but just know that as your brother, I won't be mad at you.", finishing up his coffee, he stands up from his seat to take the empty cup to the sink, halfway a step from the kitchen counter, he hears her speak up.

"I'm pregnant.", she confesses, and the man's ears perked up upon hearing this, his back was facing her but he quickly turned around at the same time slamming the plate and cup on the nearest counter, nearly cracking the thing, then she sees that her brother's expression changed from calm to serious, like he's angry?, not at her but at someone else, "Chris, you told me you won't be mad.", she reminds him desperate.

"Who's the father?", he asks firmly, she didn't want to answer that, knowing that her brother might kill Leon on the spot when he sees him.

"I can't tell you who when you look like that-", she was interrupted by Chris's voice, louder than before, "Who got you pregnant, Claire?!...Is it Archer?", but she shakes her head, also lowering it, "No. He's long gone from my romantic life, why would you even consider him as an option?", the mentioned man was her latest ex boyfriend and also a long time neighbor at the apartment complex that she left. They had started dating in 2018, Claire kept her relationship with him very private that Chris was the only one to know about it. But they broke up in March of last year, 2021 after she fell out of love with him, she explained and he understood well. He was a nice guy, and they had stayed on good terms even after the break up. They talked occasionally whenever they got the chance to bump into each other at the building, although it was still visible in the man's eyes that he still had feelings for her. But she just didn't love him enough, much like the other men she's had in her life, no one had ever topped her feelings for the rookie cop she met in 1998...but there is someone who is as close to her heart as Leon, but he is long gone, Steve.

But this time unexpectedly to her surprise, her brother got it right, "Leon?!"

Her eyes widened in shock, "Wait...how?!", she exclaimed but brushed it off, Claire was starting to get scared, how did he- know?, Chris glared at her waiting for a nod and she did, "I-it was an accident, he was drunk when he did, please Chris, calm down."

"That's what I thought. Out of all the men out there, it just had to be the drunken bastard who's obsessed with that one woman when it could have been any one of your exes.", he sighs, closing his eyes for a second before walking slowly and sitting back down at the chair across from his sister, looking down at the floor, shaking his head. She observes him carefully, not knowing what he feels about this, "I-I'm sorry. Just overwhelmed.", he apologizes for his outburst, he looks at her to see if she was still tense because of him, and it looks like she had also calmed down.

A few minutes of silence, and Chris became curious again, "Does he know?", referring to the father. "Leon?", Claire asks back, making sure. Chris gives her a side eye look, "Are there any other possible fathers for you to ask that?"

"No.", she states quickly, "It was just him.", she pauses, "He doesn't know, in fact...we didn't stay in contact after the night we-", "I get it.", he interrupted, not wanting to hear the detail of what his friend did with his sister. "How about the baby? What do you plan to do with the baby? Are you going to keep it?"

This is the subject Claire had been trying to avoid but eventually has to make up a decision as soon as she can, she had recalled that ever since she was young, she's always dreamt of becoming a mother someday, but that dream was soon set aside when the zombies made their debut, as much as she wants to continue on with the pregnancy, she can't, and it's not that she doesn't want the baby, but because of the circumstances this world has to give to her, this times are not the most suitable place to bring a new life in, "I-I don't know yet, I want to but I can't.", she stuttered a bit.

Chris understood what his sibling meant very well, that feeling when you want to live your dream life but reality strikes down at you like a boulder, but he had an idea, "Perhaps, an appointment with the OB/GYN, when you see the baby, can help you shape up what you want to do from there.", he suggests and Claire seems to think about it before nodding in agreement at the idea. Then he thought about Leon, it was after all- also his child, "But...what about Leon?", he mentions, "As a man, the father also has the right to say his opinion on the matter, or at least- he deserves to know what his child's fate is going to be, whether you keep it or abort it.", he explains, as a matter of factly.

Claire looks away from her brother, the thought of him seems harder to think about than her plans with her unborn child, but one thing is certain, "I plan to tell him eventually, maybe after the appointment you're talking about, just...not now, I'm not ready to face him yet.", Chris nods and one curiosity got the best of the woman, "But, how exactly did you know it was- Leon?", first it was Rebecca who got the guessing right and now it's her brother.

And the big man giggles, "It's very obvious little sister, I know he's the only man you've ever had an attraction to- despite you trying to find someone else. I mean, come on, you basically introduced me to him, and when you did talk to me about him for the first time, you blushed so hard you looked like a tomato. And you admitted it to me- remember?", he joked, trying to light up his sister's mood despite the serious situation.

"I guess you're right...but really? A tomato?", Claire smirks a bit at the memory but lowers her head soon after, "But apparently, that time has passed on and I'm done crushing over that one rookie cop."

"Then why are you currently carrying HIS child then?", Chris jokes, a bit sensitive yes but he knows she won't mind.

Claire pushes her brother's shoulder as a form of revenge and he almost falls down his chair, but they laugh it off, "Then- maybe I'm not. How about you though, why haven't you advanced in serenading Jill yet, especially at your big age?"

"Apparently...I don't have the balls as big as my age to do so.", the two of them giggled once again, and the joking went on for a few minutes. Sometimes, it's just better for the siblings to laugh their serious problems away. They had done this several times in the past whenever they felt under pressure and it is as if they were still those innocent little kids back in the 80's.
