Part Two

A week later Buffy and Willow were having lunch together. Both Tara and Riley had class. "Wills, we need to do something about Xander. He's been so miserable since Anya left."

"I told everyone not to trust her. I knew she was going to break Xander's heart, but did anyone listen to me?" Willow ranted. "No, ma'am!"

"You were right and we were wrong," Buffy agreed. "But this isn't about you, it's about Xander."

Willow calmed herself. Anya had been a sore subject for her since senior year. "Right, sorry. I don't know what we should do. I hate that he's pulling away from us."

"We need someone he can hang out with so he doesn't feel like he's just tagging along but how can we do that without them finding out what we do and what Sunnydale actually is?"

They sat there thinking. Graham would have been the perfect choice but he left after the fall of the Initiative. There was the L.A gang but Angel wasn't an option not just because Xander hated him but for the sake of her and Riley's relationship. Cordy vowed never to step foot in Sunnydale again so she was also out.

Buffy tossed her napkin onto her plate. "It's hopeless. Why can't Giles be cooler?" she moaned.

"Giles is cool!" Willow defended. "In his own way," she added after the look Buffy gave her. "There has to be someone."

Buffy's eyes widened. "Spike!"

"What about Spike?" Willow asked just as it dawned on her. "Oh! Spike! Um... but they hate each other and Spike hates us. Why would he do it?"

Buffy's first thought was to threaten him with bodily harm but scratched that idea. "Offer him money?"

"We're going to pay Spike to be nice to Xander?" Willow asked not sure how she felt about this.

"If you have a better idea I'm all ears." Buffy knew there was no other choice.

As smart as Willow was she had nothing. "We're really going to do this?"

"How much money do you have?" Buffy asked answering Willow's question.

After classes were done Buffy and Willow told Tara and Riley they'd meet up with them at the Magic Box. They then stopped at an ATM before heading to the cemetery.

"Are you sure about this?" Willow questioned for the sixth time.

"Don't chicken out on me now, Wills. We're doing this for Xander."

"You're right," Willow fiddled with her skirt.

Accepting that would be the last time Willow asked Buffy rapped on the door before barging in. Spike had good reflexes he could escape the sun light easily.

"Oi!" Spiked yelled, wiping blood from his shirt that he had spilt while having a snack. Not that he had been startled or anything. "What do you bints want?"

"We have a proposition for you," Buffy responded. She ignored the scared look on Willow's face. She was apparently the leader in fighting and negotiating with vampires.

This peaked Spike's curiosity. "What kind of proposition? I've never shagged a slayer or a witch before."

The pair couldn't hide their disgust. "Gay now," Willow reminded him.

"Never again," Buffy added. Vampires were too much drama.

With a slight pout Spike said, "It would have been one hell of a ride."

"Ew!" Buffy thought she was going to throw up. "Look we want you to be Xander's friend."

Spike thought he was going to collapse into a heap on the floor from laughing so hard. "Good one, slayer."

"We're serious," Willow said with a stomp of her foot. "If he had someone to spend time with while we were out in a group he'd come out more with us."

Subconsciously Spike's hand went to his nose remembering how much it had hurt when Xander hit him. "Why should I?"

"Because it would be nice," Willow tried knowing that wasn't going to get them anywhere.

Spike snorted. "I don't do nice."

"How about for three hundred bucks a month?" Buffy asked pulling out a wad of bills.

Spike could have almost drooled. Three hundred dollars a month could pay for most of his cigarettes and blood. Hell he'd be able to splurge on a bottle of Jack Daniels with the money he gets at his weekly poker games. "And just how long will this... deal last?"

"For the foreseeable future," Willow answered surprised that Spike was actually considering this.

"What do you say, Spike? Do we have a deal?" Buffy didn't have much patience especially when it came to Spike.

"Oh, it's a deal... the only thing is it might be a wee bit hard for Xander to want to be around me." Spike put his thumb and pointer finger very close together.

An irritated look crossed Buffy's face. "What did you do, Spike?"

"I may have told him he's expendable to your group and just your lackey. Also maybe something along the lines about how you lot should kick him to the curb." Spike suddenly found the ceiling incredibly interesting. He only looked back at the girls when he didn't hear anything. That was a mistake because Buffy was right there and punched him in the nose re-breaking it. "Ow!" He fell against a sarcophagus. "Would you people stop punching me in the face?!"

Buffy and Willow had no idea what he was talking about. "Xander is important to the group. I would be dead if it wasn't for him. Fix this. Now!" She tossed the money onto the floor and stormed out leaving Willow behind.

"You gonna punch me too, Red?" Spike asked worriedly.

"No, Buffy got the point across." Willow did step closer though. "You pull anything like that again with Xander and I will beat you with a shovel. No one hurts my Xander." She looked at the blood flowing from Spike's nose. "You should put some ice on that." Willow smiled. "Bye!" She then flounced out of the crypt only partially closing the heavy door behind her.

Spike blinked multiple times. "Blimey, she might be scarier than the slayer."
