Welcome to another one of my Harry Potter Fanfictions. This one is inspired by a story called Slytherin Courting by Slayer_Of_Destiny. They have amazing stories and I love rereading and discovering new and old stories alike on their page. They're more active on AO3 if you want a better way to contact them. They have the same penname.

The pairing for this story will be: Neville x Harry if you havent already figured that out.

Without further ado, lets get onto the story.

Harry sighs as he lays his head back in the Gryffindor boys dormitories. Stress slowly leaving his body as he let himself relax against his pillow.

Neville stood next to his friend and gave a small smile.

"Has Ginevra been giving you a hard time? I hear she's been spreading rumors about you two being betrothed. She says her mother and Dumbledore approved it. Although I find that hard to believe considering there is no ring to show for it and you definitely aren't together."

A miserable sigh left Harry's lips at Neville's words.

"She just won't give up on the idea of her and I becoming a couple again. Every time I leave the dorm, Ginny is right there to hound me. I dated her because I was being poisoned by potions given to me by her and Mrs. Weasley. And don't even get me started on all of the blocks the goblins found on me when I went to Gringotts for my inheritance."

Neville nodded in understanding. "You can always lie and tell her that you already have a betrothed and that it is an insult to them for her to spread around all of those rumors and lies."

I look at Neville as he suggests a solution to my problem, and I can't help but to think about the merits of the idea.

"That isn't a bad idea, but I don't want to use someone for my own benefit. Besides, I actually like someone, and I don't want them to believe that I am in a betrothal contract with someone else."

A thoughtful look crossed his face at my words.

"Who has your heart then? Why don't you just ask to court them?"

I get up and walk over to the window overlooking the courtyard. Snow was piled up high as students threw snowballs back and forth.

"He's another Pureblood. Which is why I'm so nervous in the first place. I haven't known about this world for very long and I've already messed up a few traditions. Malfoy is a great example of one of those screw ups. Who's to say that the bloke I like won't be absolutely appalled by the idea of being courted by me?"

Neville gently grabs my shoulder and turns me towards him. "There is not a Pureblood in this school that doesn't want to be called yours Harry. And if there is someone who doesn't understand how you grew up, then that's on them. You're a wonderful wizard and I know whoever this mysterious Pureblood is, will fall for you. If not for your looks and fame, then for your determination and loyalty. Don't spend the Winter Hols despairing over it. If it's meant to happen, then you will get the person you desire."

"Thanks for cheering me up, Nev. I hope you're right about him. Maybe I'll go ahead and make my way to Hogsmeade for a courting present. I'll catch up with you later."

I give Neville a quick hug and make my way down to the common room and out the portrait hole.

I know the first chapter wasn't very long, but I wanted to try this idea out first before I got into my normal thousand word chapters. If you readers prefer chapters between 600-800 words, please let me know. I'm open to any suggestions.

Until next time!
