I watched the 2017 Death Note movie, and instead of just letting it go… I decided to try and explain why Light and L's personalities were different, by tying different versions of the story together in a reincarnation type thing. Yep. The drama happened, and then Light and L got another "chance" in this movie. "All Death Note Adaptations are Light and L Being Reincarnated AU".

L takes Light to an art show-as a test to see if he can take him off probation earlier than intended-but somehow ends up realizing he actually misses Light's Kira persona in doing this.

The daughter of Deputy Director Koreyoshi Kitamura is under suspicion for being Kira. After being under survailance and being saved by L from a horrible fate, Tsuki Kitamura joins in on the case.

When L dies, he doesn't disappear from this world. Unable to interact with anyone but Ryuk, he has to figure out what he needs to be able to move on. The answer might lie with the one person responsible for his death in the first place. (Hints at L/Light but not necessarily in a romantic way)
