Raito watched her, breathless with the sheer normality of it all. There was no cameras watching him- he'd checked the corners of the room, and he trusted L not to watch if he said he wouldn't- and he was free.

Raito was interesting, in the way that a shinigami never could be, and in a way that only a handful of other humans were. He was interesting in a dangerous way, smiling while plotting murder, then crying after the deed was done.

While Kira and L battled in public, Raito and Ryuuzaki had wars in private, almost silent interactions.

RaitoxL. Raito gets increasingly jealous when girls become attracted to L. When L comes to his house for dinner, their desire for eachother becomes evident and warnings about their rivalry are lost.

Neither of them dared to let the other out of their sight, each knowing that behind the hours spent studying together, were hours alone, scrabbling for a weakness to pull the other down. [slight spoilers for people and places past chapter 11]
