(Patriot POV)
Walking out of the airship and closing the door behind him after his talk with Alina, Patriot carefully observed his surroundings and readied himself for battle.
She will need some time to think over everything, but now it is clear that all of them will wake up eventually.
After making sure that there was no enemy nearby, he took out a small book from the inside pocket of his coat. From what he understood it was a diary of one of the dead soldiers. It was written in Columbian, which seemed to be the language used in these lands, so he couldn't understand all of it, but he found some useful information.
Alina's negative emotions will certainly attract these Demons, the Grimm, towards us, so we will have to leave soon. She also seems to experience some phantom pain from the injuries experienced by her before death, particularly bad in her right arm and left leg, which is concerning.
Looking at the sky he notes that he has around three hours before the sun will begin to set. The weather is still calm today as it has been since his awakening in this place, but it can change at any moment, and he isn't sure how long he can survive here while taking care of the others in this unfamiliar place during the winter. Especially since more and more Grimm would eventually be drawn towards all of their emotions. Which means that he needs to find a way to some safer location, or better - a settlement, as soon as he can.
Thinking about civilization however caused Patriot to remember another bit of information he learned that could prove to be a problem for him and his companions in the future.
Faunus… From their description, they appear to be quite similar to the Ancient races on Terra, although they are described to be very close in appearance to the so-called Humans, like these soldiers seem to have been. We certainly would be believed to be Faunus, and they seem to be discriminated against at least by some Humans, who are a majority of the population at least in these lands…
He stopped his musings when he spotted a group of dark bestial shapes with red eyes and white bone masks running from the north-west. There were fourteen of them and they approached the location of the airship fast.
Sabyrs, if I remember correctly they are called correctly. Looks like some Grimm have already found our location.
Grabbing his halberd, he calmly observed his surroundings again, making sure that there weren't any other enemies nearby. The Grimm seem to have noticed him too, instantly losing interest in the airship.
Deciding to act first, Patriot took off towards the beasts with speed phenomenal for someone of his size. Covering his body and weapon in an already familiar dark red glow, he made a wide horizontal slash towards the group in front of him and a large arc of crimson light flew at them from his weapon.
Seeing the attack, the Grimm jumped to the sides to avoid it, while he covered the distance between himself and them, instantly cleaving through two unprepared creatures, sending their remnants flying, and kicking another one to the side with a loud crack of broken bones.
Seeing an enemy right in front of them, several Sabyrs wasted no time lunging at him, but the old warrior avoided their attacks with practiced ease.
Countering them with the attack of his own, Patriot made several swift slashes, his halberd easily breaking through the bone plates and ice covering the beasts bodies and cutting through their flesh, killing three of them and wounding two others.
Recognizing the strength of their enemy, remaining beasts tried to make distance between them and him, but the warrior had more than enough reach with his halberd to catch them before they got away.
Two more creatures fell to the ground dead, with the remaining seven being hesitant to even try to attack. Promptly noting the positions of the enemy, Patriot sent two wide arcs of light to his left and right before lunging at the Grimm right in front of him.
His halberd moving like a blur, three more Sabyrs were killed, unable to neither dodge nor attack him. Instinctively feeling the presence coming at him from behind, he turned quickly striking with his armored fist, which collided with the skull of the attacking beast, breaking its jaw and sending it several meters away from him. Assessing the remaining enemies he noted that his earlier arc attack killed one creature and left two others seriously wounded. The one he punched earlier was also still alive, but disoriented.
Moving without hesitation, he quickly dispatched these remaining Grimm before surveying the area around him and the airship.
Nothing else for now, although there certainly will be more soon.
Briefly glancing at the red glow around his body and weapon, he thought about another unique trait of this place.
Aura they seem to call it… It looks like I have rather large reserves of it, and considering how it appears to enhance one's body, I might be even stronger than I was in my prime…
The power called Aura was quite incredible, useful for healing, defending one's body from harm, enhancing natural strength and possibly even more.
I need to see if Alina can use the Aura. Perhaps it could help to ease her pain, or at the very least it will help to protect her from danger.
Approaching the airship, he took his heavy shield in his hands before taking out a flask of water and taking several big gulps. More Grimm will no doubt be there soon and he needs to be ready to fight them while protecting the airship.
(Patriot POV)
Six hours have passed and the sun has set. Several more groups of Sabyrs have attacked, but were destroyed easily enough. Packs of Beowolves appeared too. They were slower and had less individual attack power than Sabyrs, but acted more coordinated and were slightly more durable, with their Alphas acting quite intelligent, although they still were dispatched without significant problems in the end.
However, the intense emotions of Alina attracted not only more Grimm, but more powerful ones.
Blocking the deadly claws with his shield, he struck the underside of the neck of the attacking Ursa with his halberd, breaking through the ice and bone plates and nearly decapitating the beast, before swiftly dodging to the side as the giant black bird tried to grab him with its claws.
Still two Ursai and four Nevemores left. I'll have to finish it quickly before more Grimm will arrive.
The airship was not too far from him since he needed a good position to defend it from them. The doors were as securely locked as possible, although he was sure that Alina still could hear the sounds of battle.
We will need to move as soon as Grimm stop attacking. Hopefully the pain will not hinder Alina too much.
Again fully concentrating on the battle, Patriot assessed the condition of his enemies. Two Ursai were in front of him. One was missing its front leg while the other one had a large gash on the left side of its body. Three Nevermores were hovering several dozen meters in the air, waiting for an opportunity to strike, with the fourth one being on the ground several meters away from him, with a partially missing and broken wing, but still alive and ready to attack.
Using an Aura arc to distract the Nevermores in the sky, the old warrior swiftly charged towards the pair of Ursa, bashing the one with a missing leg with his shield and sending it prone to the ground, before delivering a piercing strike towards the other one, who attempted to tear into him with its jaws. The halberd pierced through the creature's chest, yet it still tried to strike him with its claws, although they bounced off from his Aura. Swiftly pulling out his halberd from inside of the dying beast, he moved to the side to avoid another strike from a Nevermore, and slashing its wing off before it could fly up again. As It fell to the ground with a loud screech, Patriot quickly defended himself with his shield from several spear-like feathers that were thrown his way by two other Nevermores. The Ursa he knocked to the ground earlier stood backup in the meantime and with a loud roar it lunged at him.
Carefully avoiding the barrage of sharp feathers, Patriot met the Ursa charge, striking its neck with his shield. Once again falling to the ground, the beast tried to snap its maw around the warrior's legs, but instead received a strong kick to its skull.
The two still flying Nevermores stopped their barrage of arrow-feathers and with a loud screech both charged towards him. Changing the grip on his halberd, Patriot threw it at one of the giant birds like a spear, before preparing his shield to meet the attack of the other one. The first bird attempted to dodge his weapon, but was too late as it was pierced right through the right side of its chest and started to fall to the ground. The other one attempted to ram him with its armored head, but even with its superior size it managed to move Patriot only by several meters, before he used his free hand to slam its head into the ground, stopping its charge.
The still alive Ursa stood up once again, but he struck it before it could attack, fully cracking its skull with his shield. A Nevermore from earlier lashed out with the claws on its wings, but was blocked by Patriots shield. Approaching it swiftly, he grabbed it by the beak, forcing it into the ground. The beast struggled as best as he could, but was promptly stopped by a spike on the underside of the Sarkaz warrior shield, as it pierced its spine.
Two more Nevermore were still alive, each one missing a wing, both rushing at him recklessly. Skillfully dodging their messy attacks, he grabbed his halberd from the mangled dissipating corpse of the other Grimm, before finishing them off.
There shouldn't be much more Grimm in the surrounding area so we need to gather all necessary things and move.
