Chapter 17: Heartfelt Talk At Verdanturf Town! Wally Shows His Resolve To Get Stronger!

Michael placed his hands behind his back as he honestly answered the old woman's question.

Michael - "To start, I'm looking for the Draconids that are rumored to be living around here in Meteor Falls. I'm guessing you're the clan's leader?"

Clan Elder - "Yes I am. But you and your friends may call me Annebelle."

Michael - "Very well then Ms. Annebelle. What can you tell us about the Ancient Draconids?"

Annebelle - "Yes. It is true that I'm one of the Draconid people. One of the ancient folk tasked with passing down the knowledge of Mega Evolution-With the great lore of Lady Rayquaza, who was the beginning of all."

Ruby - "The beginning of all?"

Annebelle - "That's correct. Since long times gone, Hoenn has repeatedly suffered great disasters. At times, the destruction took the form of a huge meteoroid, which fell upon our land from distant space. Other times, the Primal Revisions of Lady Lyogre and Lord Groudon brought us to the brink of destruction."

Michael - "That would make some sense. That mural we saw back in Granite Cave pretty much told us all we needed to know."

Annebelle - "But each time, Lady Rayquaza has saved us from doom. The one chosen to be Lorekeeper, standing before a stone that shone with rainbow light, offered up a wish to the great one. And Lady Rayquaza's body was suffused with a brilliant light and transformed. In her transformed state, Lady Rayquaza's power was more devastating than ever before, overcoming even the combined Primal Power of Lady Kyogre AND Lord Groudon."

Michael - "So in other words, you're describing how Lady Rayquaza Mega Evolved to stop the combined rampage of BOTH Primal Lady Lyogre and Primal Lord Groudon?"

Annebelle - "Yes, young Michael. That's precisely what I'm saying. The bond we created that connected us to Lady Rayquaza is the exact same bond you and your friends create with your own Pokémon. And as long as you always remember that bond, you won't ever lose your way."

Michael - "Thank you Ms. Annebelle. Your story has been very helpful to me. Also, just curious. But who's the current Lorekeeper?"

Annebelle - "The current generation's Lorekeeper is named Zinnia. But I currently have no idea what she's doing right now."

Michael - "I see. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for her."

Annebelle - "Thank you. Safe travels to you all then."

With that, Annebelle disappeared back into the cave.

Roxanne - "Not to sound rude Michael. But was there a reason for the questions you asked Annebelle?"

Michael - "Let's just say that I wanted to confirm something."

The girls shared a glance with each other, wondering just what Michael wanted to have confirmed.

Michael - "Anyway. Let's continue on to Rustboro City."

As the party went to exit Meteor Falls, Michael caught a Solrock, Lunatone, and Bagon, and sent all three home. Then the party finally exited Meteor Falls and headed south along Route 115 before finally arriving back in Rustboro City.

Michael - "Ok. For the time being. Weiss and her team will head to the Poké Mart and restock our supplies so they last us until Mauville City. Meanwhile, the rest of you will relax around the city, then meet back up with Weiss's group at the Pokémon Center in an hour."

Weiss - "What about you Michael?"

Michael - "I'm actually gonna head towards Verdanturf Town and meet up with you girls there."

Ruby - "You still feel guilty about what happened with Wally?"

Michael - "Yes I do. And despite what happened, I still want to make sure he's doing ok."

Roxanne - "Very well then Michael. Just be careful and we'll see you in Verdanturf Town."

Michael - "I will. See you girls later then."

The girls waved as they watched Michael go east along Route 116 towards Rusturf Tunnel.

Michael - "Zinnia huh? So that's who was watching us when we were exiting the north end of Petalburg Woods after helping out Jimmy with that Team Aqua Grunt."

While walking through the tunnel, Michael came across a man and a woman that were separated by a pair of large boulders.

Michael - "Excuse me. Does something seem to be the matter?"

? - "Sorry fella. Name's Andy. And I'm trying to reach my darling Wanda."

Michael - "Ah, I see. Then let me help you with that."

Michael backed up his word by quickly destroying both boulders that were blocking the way.

Andy - "Wow! You shattered that boulder blocking the way. Thanks for the help kiddo. It means a lot to me."

Michael - "Not at all Andy."

Andy then turned towards the woman who was named Wendy.

Andy - "Wanda! Now I can see you anytime!"

Wendy - "That's...wonderful. Please, take some rest at my home."

Michael said nothing as he silently watched Wanda led Andy to her home in Verdanturf Town. After a few moments, he went in the same direction as they did. A few moments later, Michael finally found himself in Verdanturf Town. He then took a good sniff of the air around him.

Michael - "I'll admit. Where Route 113 suffers a bit due to the wind, this Town prospers in its place. The air is so fresh and pure. Even someone like Wally could benefit from living here for so long."

Michael quickly made his way over to the Pokémon Center to have his Pokémon healed.

Michael - "Pardon me Nurse Joy. But I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find a boy named Wally in town?"

Nurse Joy - "Oh Wally. He should be in his cousin's house to the south."

Michael - "I see. Thank you."

Nurse Joy - "Not at all. Here are you Pokémon back and have a nice day."

Michael - "Thank you and you have a nice day as well."

Michael then left the Pokémon Center and quickly spotted the house Nurse Joy had told him about.

Michael - "There it is."

Michael slowly walked over and knocked on the door. After a few moments, Wally's uncle Bart opened and answered the door.

Bart - "Oh! Michael! Come inside, come inside."

Michael quickly entered the house.

Michael - "Hey Bart. Been a while."

Bart - "Yes it has been. How have things been on your end."

Michael - "Everything's been fine so far. I got my third gym badge the day after you and Wally returned here."

Bart - "That's good to hear. But I'm guessing you and the girls have run into Team Magma then on your way to Lavaridge Town, right?"

Michael - "Sadly yes we have. We're actually on our way back to Lavaridge Town to stop their plan."

Bart - "I see. You and the girls just be careful, ok. Oh. And if you're looking for Wally, he's right next door. Boy, I'll tell you. This town's natural environment is doing wonders for Wally's health. Then again. It's not just the environment. His Pokémon could be helping with that too and giving the boy hope."

Michael slowly left the table as Bart continued to ramble on, walking into the next room and finding Wally looking out the window.

Michael - "You doing ok there Wally?"

Wally - "Oh. It's you Michael. And yes I'm doing just fine."

Michael - "Listen. About what happened in Mauville a couple of days ago..."

Wally - "It's ok Michael. Yes, I lost to you, but I'm not feeling down about it anymore."

Michael - "That's good to hear."

Wally - "And I now have a new purpose in life."

Michael - "What's that?"

Wally - "Together with my Ralts, I'm gonna challenge Pokémon Gyms and become a great Trainer. Please watch me, Michael. I'm going to become stronger than you. And when I do, I'm gonna challenge you to another battle."

Michael held out his arm.

Michael - "It's a deal then?"

Wally took Michael's extended arm and shook it. Michael then left the house a few moments later and returned to the Pokemon Center to wait for the girls.

Ruby - "Michael!"

Michael - "There you girls are. Was wondering when you all were gonna show up."

Clair - "Sorry Michael. Took us a bit longer to get here."

Michael - "No problem."

Roxanne - "Were you able to talk to Wally?"

Michael - "Yes, I was. In fact, I can now say that he's my rival."

Yang - "That's good to hear."

Michael - "Anyway. Let's get back to Mauville City and stock up and supplies there for Mt. Chimney."

Girls - "Right!"

As Michael and the girls left Verdanturf Town, Wally watched them leave from around the corner of his extended family's house.

Wally - "Just you wait Michael. I WILL prove to you how much stronger I've gotten."

While walking through Route 117, Michael caught a Volbeat and Illumise, sending the pair home, along with getting a Roselia encounter. Then they were soon back in Mauville City.
