A talking, happy-go-lucky giraffe swaps places with Effie just before the 74th Hunger Games, Freaky-Friday style. Oblivious to Panem's way of life, she unknowingly interferes with the Games' events, then busts 4 tributes out of the arena. With the authorities looking for them, the giraffe must now get the tributes to safety—but first she'll have to help them trust each other.

The waves lapel at the shore, and the stench of flesh and copper is foul on the winds above. Alliances are as fickle as the tides. The ocean, as well as its tributes, feel that thirst for blood, the burning desire in them to perform, to violently battle for the highest seat of all. Effie Trinket, just another Capitol puppet. The Quarter Quell begins and it suddenly shows that Effie isn't as obsessed with the Capitol as it seemed. The revolution gets going and Effie, who came closer to Haymitch than she would have ever expected, has to figure out where her loyalties lie. And her time is running out.

There's but one problem with the Victor's mask. For it to work, the victor must have two essential things; haunting vivid memories and loved ones they would trade their lives to protect. One without the other is to no use. So when Olive Navin Cresta survives the 69th Hunger Games with no recollection of her time in the Arena, the mask gets destroyed before it's even placed.

Direct Variation: a mathematical term for the equation y equals kx, in which "k" is a constant, 23 in our case, and "x" is a variable, standing for the number of Games, of course. It's a perfect equation, but unexplainably, there are inconsistencies. And if they have their way, there will be more. Rewritten into the third person.

Amber always knew she'd die young. It was her family's curse. If the Games didn't take her, some freak accident would. Two years after losing her twin sister, she takes destiny into her own hands and volunteers for the 66th Annual Hunger Games, hoping to win and rid herself of the curse, but how can one escape death when it is a part of who they are?
