Paige sat at her desk as she video chatted with JT about recent events. "How did she take it? Paige asked concerned.
"Well...she was surprised and disappointed, I did explain this happened while we weren't together, she was mad for awhile but I think we're okay now." JT explained.
"Did she say she wouldn't say anything yet?" Paige asked again worried at it getting out.
"Yeah, she said she's not telling anyone thankfully." Jt said.
"Oh okay." Paige said relieved, not realizing how much she had been worrying about it, JT could tell from her tone she was less stressed.
"Sooo...how are the two of you feeling?" Jt asked cautiously.
"Tired...guess I better get used to it." Paige said, annoyed.
"Anything I can do to help? Or plan for?" Jt asked concerned.
"I think I'm just going to head to bed early." She said exhausted.
"See ya tomorrow, nighty night." Jt said, trying to lighten the mood
"Night." Paige said as she hung up the phone she settled into bed hoping to get a better night's sleep than the previous night.
The next morning, Paige's day was off to a miserable start, she was still tired, she felt nauseous, and her favourite jeans felt tighter. It made her self conscious about her secret getting out and the fact it meant her body was already changing even if it wasn't obvious to others yet. The long drive to school didn't help. Her mother dropped Holly J off at Lakehurst leaving just the two of them. Her mother tried to make conversation but Paige was still upset with her. If they were honest about her condition would she be in this situation she was in? Still part of her wanted to make peace, a combination of knowing she'd need help with the baby but also her genuinely wanting to not be mad at her parents.
As she entered the school everything felt very quiet. There were groups of other kids having discussions amongst themselves but she couldn't help but feel something was off. She stopped at her locker, as she quickly grabbed what she needed Ashley appeared trying to talk to her.
"Paige I know you're still mad but I just want to know if everything is okay." She asked, concerned.
"Everything is fine, now go away." Paige said bluntly and rolled her eyes.
"I just want to say regardless if you're still mad I'm here if you need anything." Ashley said, trying to be comforting.
"What are you talking about?" Paige said, now annoyed.
"Paige...there's a rumor going around that you're pregnant." Ashley said quietly.
Paige felt her tension rise and she slammed her locker shut before turning around. "Who said it?" Paige demanded.
Ashley was at first surprised by her reaction but then realized she wasn't denying it. "It's true isn't it? Paige what happened?" Ashley asked, concerned by this.
"Heather got me into this." Paige snapped bitterly as she walked away, she needed to find JT. As Paige turned a corner, she saw him looking equally frantic.
"Paige, I've been looking all over for you." He said concerned.
"JT what happened? How did this get out?" She asks, he could feel the panic in her voice.
Jt let out a sigh. "It was that annoying Derek kid."
"How did he find out?" Paige asked. She could feel her stress levels rising.
"He's friends with Liberty's brother Danny. They must've overheard when I told Liberty. I swear I thought we were alone" He said feeling incredibly guilty.
Paige stared back at him trying to form a coherent response, JT was beginning to worry she might be having another panic attack. "I can't believe you." Was all she said as she turned to walk away.
"Paige wait-" he tried following after her but was cut off.
"Just get away from me, I don't want to see you right now!" Paige said, furious at this. Paige felt like ripping Derek's skin from him alive. She didn't know if it was her or Heather thinking that but she didn't care.
JT felt horrible enough for letting this get out but now, seeing her look so betrayed he didn't remember ever feeling this bad.
Paige sat through her first few classes hoping they'd manage to distract her from her situation, instead she had to deal with stares from the others. She could see them strain their necks trying to get a look at her, especially at her belly area. She knew she wouldn't be spending lunch in the cafeteria, there were too many people, especially ones she didn't want to see right now. She knew she had to eat something, if not for herself then at least the thing inside her, she thought as she stopped by a vending machine.
She decided to hide out in the library away from people who would be into the gossip as she found a place to sit in the back away from anyone who might still be there. She took out her laptop and began researching everything she had to look forward to in the coming months. The morning sickness, the nausea, the exhaustion all while still trying to keep up with her schoolwork. The physical changes like the obvious weight gain and stretch marks, she was annoyed and worried to learn some of these changes could be permanent.
Paige moved on to the page as she read about the financial impact of raising a kid, how expensive it'd be in addition to her still having to pay Spinner back somehow. So many articles stressed how important support systems were during this time, reading it caused her chest to hurt as she had now pushed away most of the people who would've supported her.
First her parents after they revealed her DiD, to her friends when she learned they knew, and finally JT. She knew what had happened wasn't his fault but the stress of the situation got to her causing her to lash out. Despite the baby inside her and Heather existing somewhere inside her head she had never felt this alone.
Authors note: been working on this one for awhile hope you enjoy it. As usual feedback is always appreciated
