WHO IS DEADLIEST?!
To find out, we have gathered doctors, scientists and weapons experts to test the arsenals wielded by our combatants to determine who would win a fight when two fictional warriors go head to head.
No rules. No safety. No mercy. It's a duel to the death to decide who is...THE FICTIONAL DEADLIEST WARRIOR!
Using 21st century science, we will see what happens when two fictional warriors clash in a simulated battle:
UBCS
Appearing from: Resident Evil 3
Commander: Sergei Vladimir
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 175 lbs.
Force Size: 120 (approx.)
Gurlukovich Mercenaries
Appearing from: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Commander: Sergei Gurlukovich
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 180 lbs.
Force Size: Over 1,000 (approx.)
"Today is a battle of the mercenaries. In one corner, we have the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service, the private military force of the Umbrella Corporation, who specialized in rescue operations during biohazardous outbreaks, and in the other, we have the Gurlukovich Mercenaries, an elite squad of Russian mercenaries who served in some of the most dangerous conflicts all around the world," biomedical scientist Bradley Foster started.
"With the Gurlukovich Mercs, you have a group largely comprised of former Spetsnaz GRU soldiers who have received professional military training and are battle hardened and battle ready. With the UBCS, you have an international squad comprised of everything from Soviet Army officers to terrorists on death row, bringing a physical and mental toughness that prepares them for the nightmare scenarios they are thrust into," trauma doctor Joseph Kaiser continued.
"These are mercenaries we're talking about here. They're scrappers and they have the kind of arsenals you'd expect. They might not have the best of the best in terms of quality equipment, but they make do with everything they are given," computer expert Eddie Cortez spoke.
"It's squad versus squad today. Time to find out who prevails in the end," Bradley concluded.
The camera cut to a young man of South American descent with shaggy black hair and days old stubble, wearing tactical military webbing over a black t-shirt and charcoal-colored pants. He has an M4A1 in hand and is stalking towards an unseen target.
Representing the UBCS will be former Communist guerrilla and later corporal, Carlos Oliveira.
A survivor of the Raccoon City Outbreak, Carlos knows first-hand the kinds of deadly scenarios his men were thrown into and how they fought through them.
"Anywhere there's a biological outbreak, the UBCS was always the first set of boots on the ground. We knew we were being sent where no one else wanted to go. That's what made us unique and that's what made us deadly," Carlos explained.
Established as a dedicated anti-B.O.W. Force distinct from the Umbrella Security Service by Col. Sergei Vladimir, it was to be comprised of those with military and paramilitary training unwanted by their home nations, with most of its members being from former Warsaw Pact nations and the former Soviet Union.
"For some of us, soldiering was all we knew. For others, we were criminals. Either way, things weren't looking to good. The UBCS offered us a new life. How could we refuse?" Carlos asked.
The UBCS went on to establish itself as an effective unit, partaking in various deadly rescue missions around the world. However, it would be during the Raccoon City Outbreak in 1998 that saw the entire unit deployed to the mountain community, only to be nearly slaughtered to the last man.
"In the end, we were treated as nothing more than mere guinea pigs and for what? Some stupid combat data! A lot of good men died there, many of whom were my closest friends. They fought to the bitter end, these Gurlukovich guys can count on that," Carlos concluded.
The international mercenary force battled B.O.W.s with a deadly arsenal provided by Umbrella:
Short Range: Combat Knife
Mid-Range: SIG Pro SP2009
Long Range: Colt M4A1
Explosive: Mine Thrower
But how will the UBCS fare when they are pitted against an equally lethal, equally determined band of mercenaries?
The camera cuts to a man with slicked back dark blond hair and wearing military webbing over a black long-sleeved shirt and charcoal-colored fatigue pants. He checks over a Russian-made pistol to make sure it is loaded and the sights are lined up before he reaches down and picks up a combat knife.
On hand to represent the Gurlukovich Mercenaries will be U.S. Army soldier Johnny Sasaki.
A mercenary who served time with the unit during their takeover of the Big Shell decontamination facility, he is able to attest to the overall effectiveness of the unit.
"They were a pretty decent bunch. The Gurlukovich Mercenaries saw each other as family and would fight to the death for each other. They had a sense of honor. These UBCS guys are a bunch of lowlifes who would stab each other in the back for a nickel," Johnny spoke.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, many soldiers were left unemployed following the reorganization of the Red Army and forced back into civilian life. Driven by an utmost sense of patriotism to his country and a desire to restore Mother Russia to her former glory, former GRU Col. Sergei Gurlukovich took over a thousand men in and formed them into a mercenary band bearing his name.
"These were guys with nowhere else left to go. Col. Gurlukovich gave them a purpose to fight for, a family to die for. They were fiercely dedicated to one another and they showed it first-hand on the battlefield," Johnny explained.
Initially planning to link up with Liquid Snake's rebellion during the Shadow Moses Incident, his plans were thwarted by Liquid's death. Subsequently, the Mercenaries would take over the U.S.S. Discovery as it carried the anti-Metal Gear platform called RAY, only for their beloved leader to be betrayed and killed by Revolver Ocelot. Command was then transferred to Sergei's daughter Olga, leading to their involvement in the Big Shell Incident, only to be further betrayed as Olga used the mission as a means of helping Raiden beat Solidus Snake for the Patriots, an incident which saw most of the unit wiped out and later disbanded.
"They were the best at what they did. Once these UBCS guys cross their path, they're dead," Johnny concluded.
The Russian mercenaries came equipped with a deadly arsenal compliments of the homeland:
Short Range: Ballistic Knife
Mid-Range: Makarov PM
Long Range: AKS-74u
Explosive: RGB6
When both combatants got up close and personal, they relied upon their trusted blades to cut up the competition.
For the UBCS, they relied upon a battlefield staple, the Combat Knife.
(A UBCS merc is shown driving his combat knife into the side of a zombie's head after it grabbed him.)
Combat Knife
Fixed Blade
Length: 7 in.
Weight: 1 lb.
Material: Carbon Steel
"We bring your usual military-grade combat knife to battle with us," Carlos said drawing his blade from its holster and showing the panelists, "Your best friend in any last resort. Anybody gets close enough – they're dead."
"Well then we want to see just how deadly your knife can be," Bradley said before motioning to a setup behind him of a sandbag wall in front of 3 targets, "We have a scenario where you are about to ambush a campsite where an enemy commander is relaxing for the night, as represented by the pop-up target. He also has two guards you must get through, represented by the beef slabs we have positioned at both sides. You have 15 seconds to make your case."
"Always ready," Carlos said before taking his position and drawing his blade.
"Carlos, are you ready?"
"Damn right I am," he called back.
"Then on 3...2...1, attack!"
Carlos leaped over the sandbag wall and plunged his knife into the first target, before following up with a slash to its gut. He then launched himself at the second target and delivered two deep slashes, just as the last target popped up. He shot his foot out into the target's chest, knocking it backwards and then driving his blade downward into its chest before following up with another stab.
"Time!" Bradley called out.
Dr. Kaiser made his way over to assess the damage, starting with the first target, "You wasted no time going for the kill, where you would have likely caught this guy in the neck and punching through his jugular for a quick bleed out. Your second strike was unnecessary at this point, but still would have cut into his gut and caused a world of hurt before lights out. With your second target, again we've got two deep slashes that would have left this guy bleeding out."
He then turned his attention to the pop-up target, "With both your strikes, you struck this guy right in the heart for an instant kill, again unnecessary with the second strike, yet still proving your point to whichever poor schmuck is left to find his commander dead."
"I worked with some pretty shady characters during my time in the UBCS. They would have done worse had it been one of them...and they weren't always about 'proving a point,' just them being damned psychos," Carlos spoke.
"Hopefully you came well prepared for this test," Eddie spoke to Johnny.
"Oh I did, and I came with my own little trick," Johnny smirked.
Answering the UBCS' challenge, the Mercenaries cut back with a devious cutting tool of their own, the Ballistic Knife.
(A Gurlukovich mercenary stands before a rebel who has taken one of his colleagues hostage, acting like he is about to drop his carbine, when he pulls out a knife and pushes a button, firing the blade into the rebel's throat.)
Ballistic Knife
Spring Loaded
Length: 10 in.
Weight: Under 1 lb.
Material: Steel
"Feast your eyes boys," Johnny said drawing the knife from his holster.
"Heh, what's so special about this? Doesn't look any different than any other knife," Carlos grunted.
"Not until," Johnny said before suddenly aiming his knife towards a wooden target and pressing a hidden trigger, causing the blade to shoot out.
"Excellent!" Eddie exclaimed.
"I can hit somebody from 16 feet, and at a speed of up to 39 miles per hour," Johnny spoke before going over to retrieve his blade.
"It's the same test for you, Johnny. You are sneaking into a camp and taking out the commander and both his guards. You have 15 seconds," Bradley spoke.
"Always ready," Johnny said as he took his position with his blade ready.
"Alright Johnny, are you ready?"
"Ready!" he called back.
"Then on 3...2...1, cut 'em up!"
Johnny vaulted over the sandbag wall and quickly drove his blade into the first beef slab, twisting the knife before twirling his body and stabbing his blade into the second slab. The "commander" then sprung up, only for the mercenary to point his knife and pressing the trigger, firing the blade into its face.
"Time!" Bradley called out.
"Once again, you are in like a thief in the night, cutting both these guys open with expert precision. As for your commander, he's dead as soon as he pops his head out, a perfect shot through his right eye and he's dead. You are 3 for 3," Dr. Kaiser commented.
"Seems counterproductive when you are always having to retrieve the blade afterward. What if you miss? Then you're screwed," Carlos commented.
"We typically carry 2 or 3 knives on us at once. We don't get you the first time, we'll surprise you the next," Johnny nodded.
Both knives cut through the competition, but where do our panelists stand?
"I'm with the ballistic knife on this one thanks to its hidden surprise," Bradley started.
"I agree. It functions well for melee combat and its hidden feature enables it to be effective at all ranges," Dr. Kaiser seconded.
"I'm with both of you. This isn't your typical combat knife. You can take a guy down up close and from a distance. Edge Mercenaries," Eddie concluded.
In short range weapons, the Gurlukovich Mercenaries take the edge with the Ballistic Knife.
Coming up, both warriors shoot it out when their respective pistols are put to the test.
XXXXXX
The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service and the Gurlukovich Mercenaries, two mercenary units known and feared.
"These Gurlukovich guys are a bunch of has beens chasing a dead dream," Carlos spoke.
"With the Gurlukovich, you had professionals. These UBCS guys are just war criminals and rag tag rebels. They'd be eaten alive," Johnny commented.
When both combatants needed to shoot it out, they came with trusted sidearms.
For the Gurlukovich Mercenaries, they relied upon the trusted sidearm of Soviet military and police forces, the Makarov PM.
(A Gurlukovich soldier is shown shoving a rebel backwards before firing a three shot flurry into his chest.)
Makarov PM
Semi-Automatic
Length: 6.36 in.
Weight: 26 oz.
Cartridge: 9x18mm Makarov
Capacity: 8 Rounds
"This was the gun used by a lot of the guys from back in their time with the Red Army," Johnny said showing the Russian-made pistol off to the panelists, "Even as technology progressed and more advanced guns became available, they still trusted this pistol when it came down to it."
"We have a scenario set up for you to test your pistol," Bradley said motioning to a small structure behind him, "Here, we have a building that has been taken over by UBCS mercenaries. There are 5 hostiles altogether, plus one civilian caught in the middle. The test will be over once you have located and eliminated all of the hostiles. That's not all. We're going to throw in an extra element to make things more challenging. Carlos, if you will?" he said looking over to Carlos.
On cue, Carlos jogged around the structure and tossed few smoke bombs inside, clouds of green smoke emerging from the open doors and windows.
"Alright Johnny, are you ready?" Bradley called out.
"Yeah!" he called back.
"Then on 3...2...1, make your way inside!"
Johnny climbed through a window and made his way into a smoke-filled corridor, where he was met by a hostile target that he fired a three shot barrage into. He rounded a corner, only to be met by a cutout of an unarmed woman. There was no time to relax as a hostile target popped into view and he fired two shots into it before continuing on. He came to a small barrier from which another hostile target popped up, emptying his clip into it.
He knelt behind the barrier and reloaded his gun before pulling himself over and making his way through a door, where he made a left turn and was met by another hostile target, firing three shots into it. There was another doorway for him to walk through and he was met by the final hostile target, firing three shots into its center mass before making his way out through the exit.
"Time! 1 minute and 30 seconds!" Bradley called.
Dr. Kaiser waited for the smoke to clear before making his way inside the structure to examine all of the targets.
"I am walking around and I am seeing all of your shots are at close center mass, a most perfect grouping that would result in kills across the board. You are 5 for 5 altogether and your non-hostile target was left unharmed. Good job!" the doctor reported.
"Like I said, these guys were pros. Every bullet they fired was meant to be a kill," Johnny nodded.
"But you aren't carrying as many rounds. You're gonna be screwed once you have to reload in the middle of a firefight," Carlos chimed in.
"Carlos, do you think you can do any better?" Bradley asked.
"I know I can," he smirked.
To answer the Gurlukovich challenge, the UBCS mercs fire back with a trusted gun that has seen usage all over the world, the SIG Pro SP2009.
(A UBCS merc is shown shooting down 3 zombies in succession with head shots.)
SIG Pro SP2009
Semi-Automatic
Length: 7.4 in.
Weight: 25.2 oz.
Cartridge: 9x19mm Parabellum
Capacity: 15 Rounds
"This was our official sidearm," Carlos said showing his gun to the panelists, "It's lightweight, yet carries more bullets and has a more powerful round."
"It's the same scenario for you, Carlos. You have 5 hostiles and one civilian on the inside. Once all the hostiles have been eliminated, the test is over," Bradley explained before looking over to Johnny, "But first..."
On cue, Johnny jogged around the structure and tossed his own smoke bombs inside, these ones emitting clouds of red smoke.
"Alright Carlos, are you ready?"
"Ready!" he called back.
"Then on 3...2...1, clear 'em out!"
Carlos climbed through the window and immediately raised his gun as he was met by a target, but halted himself once the smoke subsided to see he was facing the civilian target, which he shoved aside and made his way through a doorway, where he was in a smoke-filled corridor and met by two hostile targets. He wasted no time and fired two shots into his first target before following up with 3 shots to the next and he continued down the corridor.
"Good eye," Dr. Kaiser commented as they watched from the hidden cameras positioned inside.
Carlos continued down as the third hostile target popped into view, only to be met by 3 rounds to the center mass before he rounded the corner and made to the barrier, which the fourth target was positioned behind. Again, he wasted no time and fired three rounds into it before vaulting over the obstacle and made his way through the doorway, where he was met by the final target and fired another three shot volley into it before making his way through the exit.
"Time! 1 minute and 24 seconds!" Bradley announced.
Dr. Kaiser again had to wait for the smoke to clear before making his way through and examining all the shot up targets.
"As it was before, I am seeing some good shooting discipline here with how you managed to closely group all your shots together in the center mass, which would quickly drop any enemy in front of you. Not only that, I also notice the greater damage inflicted by your gun using the bigger rounds. All in all, you are 5 for 5 with your civilian left shaken, but unharmed," the good doctor reported.
"That's how you do it," Carlos smirked to Johnny, who only shook his head.
Both pistols proved their deadly effectiveness, but where do our panelists stand?
"I'm with the SIG Pro on this one. It has the larger magazine and the more powerful round," Bradley started.
"I agree. That 9x19mm was way more damaging, requiring less rounds to drop a possibly armored foe. Edge UBCS," Dr. Kaiser seconded.
"I'm with both of you on this one. Edge UBCS," Eddie concluded.
In mid-ranged weapons, the UBCS takes the edge with the SIG Pro SP2009.
Coming up, two East vs. West clashes when two assault carbines are put to the test.
XXXXXX
UBCS and Gurlukovich Mercenaries, two private mercenary armies who fought in some of the most dangerous scenarios until the bitter end.
When both groups needed to take their enemies down from afar, they relied upon the descendants of the most famed assault rifles of the East and the West.
Up first, the UBCS opens fire with the main stay carbine of American Special Forces units, the Colt M4A1.
(A UBCS soldier is shown riddling a Hunter with a flurry of bullets from his M4A1 before finishing it off with a shot to the head.)
Colt M4A1
Semi-Automatic or Fully Automatic
Length: 33 in.
Weight: 6.43 lbs. (empty), 7.75 lbs. (loaded)
Cartridge: 5.56x45mm NATO
Capacity: 30 Rounds
Effective Range: 550 yds
"This is just one model from the M4 carbine family, a shortened version of the M16A2 assault rifle," Carlos said showing off his carbine to the panelists, "This particular variant can go fully automatic and was intended for special operations use before it became one of our primary weapons in the UBCS."
"We have a setup for this test, one that is meant to simulate a destroyed city similar to the aftermath of the viral outbreaks the UBCS would have been familiar with, as well as the war zones the Gurlukovich Mercenaries would have fought in," Bradley started motioning to a setup behind him consisting of the charred remnants of buildings and damaged fortifications.
"Hostile forces have taken cover and need to be eliminated. Carlos, you have two clips to burn through. We want to see how accurate and deadly your carbine can be," Bradley spoke.
"Understood," Carlos said taking his position.
"Then on 3...2...1, take 'em down!"
Carlos waited as an attack bot strolled into view and he fired a three shot burst into the dummy's chest before another target popped up from behind a sandbag fortification, only to meet the same fate. He moved further into the compound where he encountered two static targets he quickly dropped in a short, but controlled bursts of fire before another attack bot strolled into view and was met by a flurry of bullets.
"Time to make things a little more challenging," Eddie said before he pushed a button on the control panel in front of him, which caused an explosion that kicked dirt and gravel into the air.
Carlos rolled to avoid the blast and was left at a knee, raising his carbine to fire a barrage into 3 roving targets charging at him, riddling them with bullets until his carbine clicked empty.
He tossed the spent magazine aside and loaded a fresh one before another pop up sprung into view, only to eat 4 rounds. It was then another bomb was detonated and Carlos was left rattled, yet caught himself just as he nearly bumped into another static target in front of him, which he kicked down and fired a lone round into its face. Two more pop up targets appeared and he fired a flurry that riddled them both with rounds across their chests before 3 more attack bots roamed into view and Carlos met them with a flurry of fully automatic fire before his second magazine ran dry.
"I'm out!" he announced.
"I'm seeing some dead on accuracy with your strikes," Dr. Kaiser commented as he observed the bullet riddled targets, "So close together and hitting your targets in vital areas. You're dropping lungs, tearing through hearts, hitting a few guys in the neck and head just for fun. Every guy here would be D.O.A."
"That was some good shooting, I won't lie," Johnny smirked.
"Heh, just good?" Carlos asked.
"I've got something just as good, one that is far more rugged and reliable," Johnny nodded.
To answer the challenge, the Gurlukovich Mercenaries return fire with a descendant of the famed AK-47, the AKS-74u.
(A Gurlukovich Mercenary is shown kicking open a door and gunning down a rebel, while a colleague comes up behind him and guns down two more rebels.)
AKS-74u
Semi-Automatic or Fully Automatic
Length: 37. 1 in.
Weight: 6.5 lbs.
Cartridge: 5.45x39mm
Capacity: 30 Rounds
Effective Range: 550 yds
"This bad boy is a shortened version of the AK-74," Johnny said showing off his carbine to the panelists, "This was the main bread and butter weapon of the Gurlukovich Mercs. Being from the AK family, you know you're gonna get your money's worth when you get one of these."
"Indeed, we've seen how durable the AK guns have been on here in the past," Dr. Kaiser commented.
"It's the same test for you, Johnny. You get 2 clips to show off your gun's capabilities," Bradley spoke.
"Well, then let's do this," Johnny said getting into position.
"Alright Johnny, then on 3...2...1, take 'em out!"
An attack bot strolled into view, but was met by a 3 shot burst from Johnny before another target popped into view and he repeated the process. He then followed the same path as Carlos did and happened across the two static targets he unleashed a barrage upon before another roving target sped into view, met by another flurry of lead.
"Eddie, would you please?" Bradley asked.
"Gladly," Eddie said pushing a button on his control console, detonating an explosive that forced Johnny to back off.
Johnny composed himself and resumed his trek, just in time to be met by the roving trio of attack bots, which he met with a rapid fire flurry until his carbine clicked empty.
He was forced to a knee as he ejected his spent clip and slammed a fresh one in and fired upon another pop up target just as the next bomb detonated. Trying to steel himself, he nearly bumped into another static target and fired three shots into its face, obliterating its foam head. Two more pop up targets sprung into view and he riddled them with bullets before the final 3 attack bots sped into view and were met by the same fate before Johnny's carbine clicked empty.
"Empty!" he shouted.
Dr. Kaiser made his way over to examine the shot up targets, "Once again, you went for the best strategy possible, dropping most of these guys with closely grouped bursts in the center mass. Their most vital organs are reduced to liquid by this point, and it looks like your rounds actually did more damage compared to the M4A1's. If these had been actual people, I wouldn't have had enough body bags on hand."
"These guns have matched each other evenly. It's still too close to call," Eddie commented.
"If you ask me, I need to step in and try 'em out myself," Bradley spoke as he pulled out a pair of safety glasses and earmuffs.
"Seriously?" Eddie gasped.
"C'mon, you know I was in the Marines. This is nothing new to me," Bradley smirked.
Given the closeness of both carbines, Bradley will now step in to test out both himself.
For his test, he must eliminate 3 terrorists, represented by roving attack bots, who have taken a number of hostages, represented by 6 wooden targets.
"Carlos, if you would please by so kind," Bradley asked the former Umbrella merc.
"Take it easy. This ain't a toy remember," Carlos said handing his M4A1 over to the panelist.
"Alright Bradley, you're getting one clip for each carbine. Are you ready?" Dr. Kaiser asked.
"Ready to rock," Bradley called back.
"Then on 3...2...1, light 'em up!"
Bradley waited for the attack bots to start up before he opened fire and struck one in the chest with a single shot. He waited for the second attack bot to pass one of the wooden targets before he fired a three shot burst into its chest. He fired another flurry with three rounds striking the third target, while the last shot missed.
"He's going to town on 'em," Eddie commented.
Bradley continued firing at the attack bots, riddling them with bullets until the M4A1 clicked empty, "I'm out!"
"So, how did it feel?" Dr. Kaiser asked.
"Very smooth. It's accuracy was bar none," Bradley commented.
"That's why I took it on every operation they dropped me in," Carlos nodded.
"I can see why," Bradley said before turning his attention to Johnny, "Now it's time to test the AKS. Johnny, if you will please?"
"Have at it, Boss," Johnny said handing the carbine over to Bradley.
"Bradley, it's the same test for you. Are you ready?" Dr. Kaiser asked.
"What do you think?" Bradley called back.
"Then on 3...2...1, shoot 'em up!"
Bradley waited as the attack bots started up and fired a burst into the first one before it could pass a non-hostile target. He waited for the second bot to pass another wooden target before firing into it and even blowing a large chunk out of its head, repeating the same process with the third target.
"Talk about a mind blowing experience," Eddie laughed.
Bradley continued firing upon the attack bots, again mostly in short bursts. He continued until the carbine clicked dry, "Out!"
"So, how did this carbine feel?" Dr. Kaiser asked.
"It definitely appears to pack more punch than the M4A1 and has that sheer reliability you would expect from a variant of the AK family," Bradley answered.
Both carbines have proven their deadly worth, but where do our panelists stand?
"It's always going to be a very close call with both of these carbines, but in the end, the superior accuracy of the M4A1 felt more natural to me. Edge UBCS," Bradley spoke.
In long range weapons, the UBCS takes the edge with the Colt M4A1.
Coming up, things take an explosive twist when two launchers are tested out.
XXXXXX
The time has now come for both combatants to pull out their explosive arsenals.
Up first will be the Gurlukovich Mercenaries with a deadly copy of the MGL Milkor, the RGB6.
(A Gurlukovich Mercenary is shown firing a round from his RGB6 into a machine gun fortification, vaporizing the two rebels within.)
RGB6
Double-Action
Length: 20.5 in.
Weight: 13.6 lbs.
Caliber: 40mm
Capacity: 6 Shots
Effective Range: 350 m
"This is Croatian grenade launcher copied from the MGL Milkor line of launchers," Johnny said showing it off to the panelists, "We managed to get our hands on these thanks to Col. Gurlukovich's vast networks. It possesses a spring-driven revolver-type cylinder for handling 6 grenades. Because of this, it delivers grenades with greater accuracy rather than simply throwing them."
"Well, then let's see what it can do," Bradley said before motioning to a group of foam targets positioned close together, "Here, we have a small horde of zombies fast approaching, the kind of situation the UBCS would be familiar with. There are 30 targets and we need the entire group wiped out. You have 6 shots, so make them count."
"I'm on it," Johnny said taking his position.
"Alright Johnny, are you ready?"
"Yeah!" he cried out.
"Then on 3...2...1, light 'em up!"
Johnny fired a shell into the cluster, managing to take out 5 of the targets closest to him. He took aim and fired a second shell, 5 more targets finding themselves blown to smithereens. He fired again and on the third shot, 6 targets were eliminated.
"Good range and a good blast radius," Dr. Kaiser commented.
Johnny continued on his assigned task, firing a fourth shell into the throng of foam targets that took out 7 more. He then fired his fifth shell and managed to take out the remaining targets.
"Done!" he called out.
"What can I say? There's not much left," Dr. Kaiser said kicking a few charred chunks aside, "Your launcher did its job and it did it well."
"But it's so big and clunky. You try lugging that thing around when you're on the run from enemy fighters or the living dead," Carlos piped up, "Our weapon is lightweight and the future of warfare."
To answer the Mercenaries' challenge, the UBCS fires back with a prototype weapon designed specifically for taking down B.O.W. threats, the Mine Thrower.
(A UBCS operative is shown firing an explosive dart into the side of a Web Spinner, which then detonates seconds later and blows a large hole in the B.O.W.'s midsection.)
Mine Thrower
Semi-Automatic
Length: 27 in.
Weight: 5.6 lbs.
Caliber: SMART Mines Darts
Capacity: 6 Shots
Effective Range: 200 m
"This is certainly brand new to me," Eddie commented as he checked over the Mine Thrower, "It's like you combined two weapons into one," he said before handing it back to Carlos.
"It was a prototype from Umbrella's armament department before they went out of business," Carlos said as he took the weapon back, "It's break-action and cylinder fed. Lightweight and compact."
"What does it even fire?" Dr. Kaiser inquired.
"It fires small dart-shaped proximity mines which can attach to most surfaces, including living targets, and they explode after a few seconds," Carlos said before breaking the launcher open and showing off one of the little mines to the panelists, "It's basically a miniature rocket launcher."
"It's the same test for you, Carlos. You have your 6 shots to make your point against an oncoming horde of zombies," Bradley said motioning towards some new targets that had been set up.
"Never can turn down flame broiling a few rotting freaks," Carlos said taking his position, albeit slightly closer to the 'horde' than what Johnny had.
"Alright Carlos, on 3...2...1, blow shit up!"
Carlos squeezed the trigger and launched a proximity mine into one of the closer targets, having to wait 3 seconds before it detonated and took out 4 other targets along with it. He squeezed the trigger again and another dart shot out, this time taking down 5 more targets when it detonated.
"Ooh, I'm not liking that delay," Bradley commented.
"Those things would've already swarmed him by now," Eddie added.
Carlos fired his third mine into another target and took down 5 more targets. He then fired a fourth mine that took down four more targets. Sighing in exasperation, he kept soldiering forth, firing the fifth mine and blowing up five targets, before firing his last mine and barely taking down those who remained.
"All targets accounted for!" Carlos called out.
"Indeed, these guys are reduced to bloody chunks as well. Your launcher worked differently, yet it accomplished its task," Dr. Kaiser commented.
"It was unlike some of the other launchers we've seen on here. Yet, we have to address the elephant in the room, that being the delay between impact and detonation," Bradley added.
"So much for being 'the future of warfare.' No wonder we ever saw any of these on the battlefield," Johnny laughed.
"Still, I doubt your buddies would have known what to expect," Carlos shot back, miming an explosion with his hands.
Both explosive weapons showed off their deadly capabilities, but where do our panelists stand?
"For me, it's the RGB6. It has the greater effective range and you get instant results upon impact, whereas the delayed detonation of the proximity mines could allow for an enemy to retreat," Bradley started.
"Granted, you could be screwed if you are hit by one of those little mines, but I can only see it being effective against a slower moving enemy, such as a zombie. Again, the instant explosion upon impact would be effective against any enemy. Edge RGB6," Dr. Kaiser seconded.
"Aside from it being the lighter of the two, I can't see any other major advantages the Mine Thrower would have over the RGB6. Edge Gurlukovich Mercenaries," Eddie concluded.
In explosive weapons, the Gurlukovich Mercenaries take the edge with the RGB6.
As it is with all warriors, there is a critical X-factor that makes them who they are. For the UBCS, it's their scrappy nature.
"With the UBCS, you had professional soldiers and mercenaries, as well as rebels and war criminals. We weren't the ideal band of soldiers and we knew it. We knew we were being sent into the most dangerous places you could possibly think of. It was things like that which made us even tougher, more determined to fight and survive," Carlos explained.
For the Gurlukovich Mercenaries, it was their strong desire to see Russia restored to its former place as a world superpower.
"The Gurlukovich Mercenaries were mostly Spetsnaz soldiers who were dismissed after the fall of the Soviet Union. They had nowhere else to go and it was Col. Gurlukovich's vision to restore Russia on the world stage that united them into one. That shared goal helped them develop a strong family-like bond that made them fight with even more ferocity for one another," Johnny explained.
Coming up, two squads of mercenaries clash for the first time!

With our testing completed and our X-factors evaluated, we are now one step closer to deciding who will be "The Fictional Deadliest Warrior."
Our teams tested 4 weapons used by the UBCS: the Combat Knife, the SIG Pro SP2009, the Colt M4A1 carbine, and the Mine Thrower.
On the opposite side, 4 weapons used by the Gurlukovich Mercenaries were tested: the Ballistic Knife, the Makarov PM, the AKS-74u carbine, and the RGB6 grenade launcher.
In short range weapons, the Ballistic Knife's built-in surprise gave it the advantage over the UBCS.
EDGE: Gurlukovich Mercenaries
In mid-ranged weapons, the SIG Pro's greater clip capacity and stronger round shot down the Makarov.
EDGE: UBCS
In long range weapons, the greater accuracy of the M4A1 out shot the AKS.
EDGE: UBCS
And in explosive weapons, the RGB6 blew away the Mine Thrower.
EDGE: Gurlukovich Mercenaries
Our scientists and weapons experts have concluded their testing. The results are in and the time has come to decide who will be our victor. The battle will be fought in a 5-on-5 squad battle between 5 UBCS operatives and 5 Gurlukovich Mercenaries. To ensure the battle won't be decided by a single, lucky blow, the battle will be simulated one thousand times in a duel to the death.
Who will prevail in a fight between two private military companies?
Mercenary
(UBCS troopers are shown rappelling down from a helicopter and landing on an apartment building rooftop.)
vs. Mercenary
(A squad of Gurlukovich Mercenaries are shown emerging from an APC and charging into battle.)
Brotherhood
(Gurlukovich soldiers are shown gunning down a group of rebels before rushing into a building to save one of their battered colleagues.)
vs. Survival of the Fittest
(UBCS agents continue fighting on even as civilians and several of their own are torn to pieces by the zombies around them.)
"This is shaping up to be an awesome battle. Let's do this!" Eddie called out before typing in the final commands and starting the simulation.

We are taken to a ruined city with pillars of smoke rising into the air, the sounds of screams and gunfire coming from within.
A Kamov Ka-60 Kasatka flies into view and hovers over an apartment building. Its doors open and 5 men in matching brown and black field uniforms rappel down to the surface, each of them also wearing balaclavas and combat helmets. 4 of them are armed with AKS-74u carbines, while the fifth carries an RGB6 grenade launcher. All of them are equipped with Makarov PM sidearms and have ballistic knives strapped to their ankles.
The 5 men are Gurlukovich Mercenaries who have been dispatched to retrieve data regarding "bio-organic weapons," which they believe could help them as they seek to restore their nation's former glory.
Gurlukovich Mercenaries: 5
On a nearby street, a M1114 Humvee is forced to a halt after coming across a massive car pile up. 5 men emerge from within, all of them wearing green fatigue shirts, matching beige pants, balaclavas and tactical goggles. The logo of a red and white umbrella with crossed swords and a shield over it was on the back of each of their uniforms. 4 of them are carrying M4A1 carbines, while the fifth carries an experimental weapon known as a "Mine Thrower." All of them carry SIG Pro SP2009 sidearms and combat knives.
These 5 men are members of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service and they have been sent to locate and safely extract an Umbrella scientist believed to still be holed up somewhere in the city.
UBCS: 5
It wasn't long before the Gurlukovich Mercenaries had made their way down to the ground level and were moving along with their weapons raised, keeping their backs to the closest building as they listened for any sign of approaching threats. They continued about until the leader raised a fist and they took an abrupt left turn into an alleyway, continuing along until they came to a door with the logo of Umbrella, Inc. The leader then pulled out a multi-tool and went to work, picking the lock and granting access to the building.
On the opposite side, the UBCS squad had arrived at the Umbrella branch division office where the scientist they sought was last reported seen, barely having dodged a horde of carriers in the process. While his men stood guard, the unit's leader pulled out a specifically provided key card that allowed access to the lobby and one by one, they made their way inside.
What they found was the aftermath of a struggle: large pools of blood, shattered glass, furniture overturned, and bullet holes stitching the walls around them.
Yet there were no bodies in sight, a troubling sign that kept them on their toes as they pressed further along. They moved into a nearby corridor where they found the security office and would take protective positions as one of their members pulled out a handheld PDA to hack past the electronic lock. Within seconds there was a loud 'ding' and they were granted access.
Inside they were treated to another grisly sight as several shot up bodies littered the floor, all displaying signs of having turned. Fortunately, they appeared to have been dispatched via head shots, yet the UBCS operatives still couldn't get too careless and the leader ordered his men to stand guard while he made his way over to the bank of monitors to review the security feeds.
All around the building there were signs of chaos displayed on the grainy feeds, yet aside from a few dead bodies, there were appeared no visible threats.
Wait a minute!
The leader typed in a few commands and he was met by the sight of five men in strange military uniforms, gathered in one of the offices and appearing to download information from one of their computers. Coincidentally, the Umbrella researcher the operatives had been after was also present, lying on the floor with his chest torn apart by automatic gunfire.
The UBCS squad leader looked to his men and motioned for them to move.
Elsewhere in the building, the Gurlukovich captain had just finished downloading the needed B.O.W. data and extracted the flash drive from the computer modem as his men stood guard.
It had been not an easy task as several of the "infected" they had been warned about were present and they needed to be put down before they could advance. Not only them, there had been a surviving researcher present who tried in vain to halt them from their objective, only to be gunned down for his troubles.
With their objective complete, the Gurlukovich leader signals to his men and that it's time to move out.
The squad made their way into a larger office area filled with several cubicles and are nearing the exit when another group of 5 armed gunmen suddenly appears.
"Vrazhdebnyy kontakt!" the Russian leader called out.
The Russian mercenaries opened fire upon the arriving UBCS operatives, who were forced to scatter for cover before firing back.
Taking cover behind a support beam, the Gurlukovich leader looks over to his colleague armed with the RGB6 and nods at him.
Nodding back to him, the Russian merc aims the launcher at an upward angle and fires a shell over the partition he used as cover, the projectile sailing across the room and striking another wall a UBCS operative used as cover. The grenade exploded upon impact, blowing the wall to pieces and sending the mercenary's mangled body flying backwards.
UBCS: 4 – GM: 5
Shouting an order to the merc closest to him, the UBCS leader and his colleague creep along the room, darting behind what cover they can find as they attempt to locate the Russian grenadier, the earth rocking hard as another explosive is launched and lands not far from them. It isn't long before they find the man and catch him off guard, riddling him with bullets before he can draw his sidearm.
UBCS: 4 – GM: 4
Unfortunately, their gunfire draws the attention of another nearby Russian mercenary, who pops out and riddles the UBCS trooper with gunfire from his AKS, the UBCS leader barely rolling out of the way just in time.
UBCS: 3 – GM: 4
The Russian mercenary kept firing away as the UBCS later tried to escape and was about to give chase when a sharp object struck him in the arm. He down to see a strange, dart-like object sticking out and then up to see another UBCS operative standing before him with a strange weapon he had never seen before. He raised his carbine to fire, only to be cut off by a loud beeping that suddenly struck a nerve and left him trying to pull the dart out.
He could only gasp in horror just as the proximity mine detonated and he was blown to pieces.
UBCS: 3 – GM: 3
The Gurlukovich leader called out to his remaining men to make a tactical retreat and they made their way towards a side exit while the UBCS operatives continued to fire away while chasing after them.
The Russian mercenaries find themselves back in the alleyway through which they entered and continued further along until they found a door to their right, which the leader kicked open, hoping to throw their adversaries off.
The remaining UBCS operatives weren't too far off and the leader raised a hand to halt his men, figuring the Russian mercenaries could be trying to bait them. He takes notice of a broken window and looks over to the guy with the Mine Thrower and nods.
On cue, the operative aims his Mine Thrower and fires a proximity mine inside, waiting a few seconds before an explosion follows and the leader orders them to move in.
The trio finds themselves inside an export warehouse, yet no sign of the elusive Russian mercenaries. Looking to both his men, the UBCS leader quietly signals for them to split up and search.
Meanwhile, the surviving Gurlukovich Mercenaries aren't too far away, one of them standing reading with his AKS and creeping along one of the shelves as he spies the UBCS troopers moving about, he waits until the man steps into the open before he leaps out and fires a volley into the man's chest.
UBCS: 2 – GM: 3
The gunfire alerts the remaining UBCS operatives and the Mine Thrower operator is first to respond, firing a mine into the wall near the Russian, yet he is alerted by the loud beeping and quickly gets out of the way before it detonates.
The UBCS operative looks around for his target, yet finds himself surprised when the Russian mercenary tackles him and shoves him into a wall. The Russian tried to punch him, yet the UBCS agent elbowed him in the side and applied a choke hold, violently throttling the man until he was weakened down and throwing him against the nearest wall, drawing his SIG Pro SP2009 and firing four shots into the man's chest.
UBCS: 2 – GM: 2
The UBCS agent hears footsteps from behind and he whirls around with his pistol raised, only to find himself standing face to face with his leader. Breathing a sigh of relief, the two men nod to each other and continue their pursuit of the remaining Russians.
They push further into the building until they come to a room filled with generators, where a Gurlukovich Mercenary fires upon them with a volley from his AKS, prompting both of them to fire back. Both UBCS soldiers retreat behind cover, yet the Russian's wild fire ends up knocking the UBCS leader's M4A1 out of his hands.
The UBCS leader nodded to his colleague and snuck around one of the generators, drawing his combat knife as his colleague kept the Russian distracted in a back and forth gun fight. With cat-like grace, he silently crept up behind the Russian and grabbed the man from behind, clamping down on his mouth and drawing his blade across the man's throat.
UBCS: 2 – GM: 1
There is no time to celebrate their brief victory as the Gurlukovich leader is spotted and the UBCS subordinate calls out to his leader, both men resuming their chase.
The Gurlukovich squad leader runs down a narrow hall, firing behind him as the UBCS soldiers give chase, bullets flying as the two men continue their pursuit.
The Russian merc takes another left and pushes his way through a door, finding himself in a boiler room and a dead end. He hears the door flying open behind him and hugs his back to a wall, clutching his Makarov as he listens for the sounds of the two men approaching.
The UBCS subordinate spots the Russian and fires upon him, yet the Gurlukovich merc takes cover behind a support beam and he throws a roundhouse kick that knocks the pistol from the Umbrella mercenary's hand. The UBCS operative tries to punch him, yet the Russian catches him in an armlock and slams him hard against the wall, shoving the Makarov against his throat and pulling the trigger, splattering the man's brains on the wall behind him.
UBCS: 1 – GM: 1
The Gurlukovich leader turns to find the angry UBCS captain inhaling deeply as he levels his SIG Pro at him. Both men squeezed the triggers of their respective pistols, only to be met with clicks.
Out of ammo, they toss their pistols aside and draw their knives, both men circling each other before the Umbrella merc lashes out with a slash directed at the Russian's throat. The Russian merc managed to dodge it and responded with a swift kick to his opponent's stomach before grabbing him and slamming him hard into the wall, yet the UBCS kept a firm grip on his knife and stabbed it downward into his opponent's forearm.
The Gurlukovich leader grunted in pain and was knocked backwards be an elbow strike, yet managed to shoot his foot out and kick the UBCS leader backward before he could advance, giving him enough time to point his knife upward and pull the trigger. The blade shot out of the handle and flew into the UBCS leader's neck.
The Umbrella mercenary let out a quiet gurgle as he tried in vain to reach for his neck, yet he slowly fell to the ground.
UBCS: 0 – GM: 1
The Gurlukovich leader looks down upon his fallen opponent before raising his fist into the air and roaring in victory.

"After another very close matchup, the Gurlukovich Mercenaries came out on top thanks largely in part due to them having the more reliable launcher, coupled with the surprise of their ballistic knife. The UBCS certainly did not make this easy for them as they had the deadliest overall weapon in the whole battle with their more accurate Colt M4A1.
"Ultimately, it fell down to the Gurlukovich Mercenaries having the more professional soldiers within their ranks, whereas the UBCS largely consisted of low end mercs, war criminals and failed rebels," Bradley concluded.
"I don't know how this is possible? I mean, this guys couldn't even beat one man!" Carlos grunted.
"Hell yeah! This just goes to show the Gurlukovich Mercs were superior in every way!" Johnny triumphantly whooped, only to suddenly clutch his stomach as a low rumbling was heard.
"Oh no! Not again!" Johnny shouted before running off in search of the nearest bathroom, while Carlos shook his head and chuckled.
(The last Gurlukovich Mercenary is shown pulling himself onto the Kasatka and then it lifts off, just in time to escape the horde of zombies shambling into view.)

Next time on "Fictional Deadliest Warrior," it's a battle of the deadly secretive assassins:
(A masked man in a black ninja outfit with silver and black robes over it launches a roped kunai at the screen.)
Shirai-Ryu Ninja: The silent killer of Japan who faced off against their hated rivals the Lin Kuei...
vs.
(A bearded man in a tanned white hooded robe with an orange chest plate and blue pants draws a sabre.)
Ottoman Assassin: The secretive slayer who prevented the return of the Byzantine Empire.
Who will be...THE FICTIONAL DEADLIEST WARRIOR?!

Author's Notes: I didn't keep you waiting as long this time, but then again, I also didn't have this file get corrupted on me either!
For anybody who follows the Deadliest Warrior fiction stories on here, yes I am fully aware of Poseidon Productions doing a similar battle in his DW fic where in his case, the Gurlukovich Mercenaries battled the Umbrella Security Service, who also work for the Umbrella Corporation from the "Resident Evil" universe, yet are still a completely different unit.
I still wanted to do a battle of the mercenaries and I tried to do what I could to make my battle different from his, which is why my combatants do not use sniper rifles or regular fragmentation grenades in this fight. The closest similarity I include in that regard is in the long range weapons test, where the UBCS also used the Colt M4A1 and the Gurlukovich Mercenaries still used their AKS-74u.
I do want to eventually include the Umbrella Security Service in a future fight, yet I haven't decided upon an opponent for them.
I was able however to get original with the explosives used in this battle, especially since the Mine Thrower does not exist in real life. Given that it's a fictional weapon, there were no real-life specifications to go by, but its size in the original "Resident Evil 3" almost makes me think of an MP5 submachine gun, so I based its measurements around one of those, although the Mine Thrower featured in the original RE4 does look longer, like it could be the size of an assault rifle.
