I don't own digimon.
Story 100
Trial that again, why don't you?
Bakemon liked to think he was ready for whatever this trial would entail. Yet, already he was faced with a new surprise. Taking the form of a man in a trenchcoat, he reminded the ghost digimon of one of those hardboiled detectives. At least this one hadn't gone through the trouble of going to his office. Rather, they were meeting out in front of the courthouse. While a nice change of pace, a part of him did kind of want an actual office.
"Aaron. Aaron Larson." the man greeted as a strange-looking rabbit digimon of all things walked up. Giving a wave, Bakemon reluctantly waved back. "Here on behalf of DA03."
Bakemon looked away. While he was very much aware of the organization and their programs, to have one of their higher ranking members here meant that shit was very much about to hit the fan. Not in a good way, either. No, in the worst possible way imaginable. Considering what she's done without the interference of the boss or the Azure Shift crew
"I assume that you're here to ensure that Julie doesn't try anything?" Bakemon inquired and Aaron nodded. Lifting his partner up, he set them down on his shoulder. Just in time for the sound of heels clicking against the concrete. Looking to their left, Victoria and Lady Devimon casually walk up. For this particular occasion, Victoria had gone for what could only be described as a violet lolita skirt suit. Absolutely beautiful in every sense of the word, Harlequin is in no way jealous. Not one bit. Hair done up in a bun, her makeup is clean and professional. Okay. Harlequin is very much jealous, but mostly on account of how cute she looks. Not because her outfit is so good and stuff.
As for Lady Devimon, she was dressed in her regular attire. No use in really making things more complicated than they already are. Especially considering her job was to fight off whatever was dumb enough to appear and try to kick people and/or digimon's asses. All while looking beautiful.
"Correct." Victoria greeted as she slowed her pace. Meeting Bakemon's gaze, the ghost digimon gulped. While there have always been stories of the escapades of mom- the black cat, most digimon were bound to think they were just that - stories. The sort told in order to get the more unruly sort to get back in line and not create a scene. Whether or not there was any truth to that junk, was still a mystery. One that Bakemon wasn't particularly keen to solve here. At least, as long as it didn't come up in some fashion.
"Good morning, Victoria." Aaron greeted as his partner waved. In turn, Victoria and Lady Devimon waved back. "I trust your trip was safe?"
Victoria nodded. Stopping in front of the trio, that was the perfect cue to get Lady Devimon to stop as well. Not that this stopped the lady devil digimon from focusing on the courthouse.
"Of course. I trust you're treating Olrumon well?" Victoria inquired and Aaron nodded. Petting Olrumon's head, that was the group's cue to turn their attention back to Bakemon here.
"So you two… know each other?" Bakemon inquired, Victoria being the one to give the nod. Good as that was to clarify here, that didn't change the fact that it felt like a non-answer to his question. Unless that was the reason for the non-committal answer here - a piece of a larger story unrelated to this mess. Entirely possible. The mess that is the Digitalverse is a criss-cross crossover of far too much shit that never worked. This is certainly more manageable and one could say, a step-up from that. At the same time, it's clear that particular elements are intent on hanging around. Just in a remixed form with the serial numbers scratched off. Wouldn't want anyone to believe that we're committing copyright fraud. Not that we are elsewhere. Nor is it being done by the boss or I have any clue about it. I digress, of course.
"It's a long story for a different time." Aaron announced, Olrumon taking this as his opportunity to jump down from his partner's shoulder. In turn, Bakemon floated to a spot where he could meet the idol rabbit digimon's gaze. Holding a hand out, a handshake followed. Afterwards, the group's gaze shifted to one another. "Well, we need to be off. I'm not certain who the defense for Julie is, but I have a feeling it isn't going to be anyt-"
Aaron's statement was cut off by a loud bang. Spinning around to face the building, all that remained was the steps. Whether intentional for the irony or just a pure coincidence, it says it all. But that's judging by the BomberNanimon standing over the wreckage. While the possibilities of survivors was 'there', that didn't change the fact that this was an act of terrorism. No doubt done on the behalf of Julie. Because of course it was. Fucking coward. Fucking forbid you get those stupid hands of yours dirty. No, better to stand behind the curtain like the stupid fucking bitch you are and watch your puppets do all the work while you take the credit. Yes, Harlequin is very much aware that bimbo can't hear her. Harlequin honestly doesn't give a fuck in that regard. Some thoughts just need to be put down on the page in the hopes of getting out the frustrated feelings that swirl within my body. Sorry if you don't like it, that's just the kind of person I am.
"Fuck." Victoria announced and charged for the ruins. Lady Devimon followed right behind, Leaving Bakemon and company to take up the rear. Very much not happy with this, that was expected. No one wants a building to blow up. Especially not one where you're supposed to have a high-profile court case. The one bright side (if you can even call it that), was the place not blowing up when it was filled with media, the jury and who knows what else. Yes, that's very much not a plus side in the slightest. But which would you want? Obviously the outcome with less murder involved, of course. Never mind. It was a stupid question and not worth dwelling on it. "Bakemon, is there anything that would've been in the courthouse that you needed?"
Bakemon stared down at the ground. While a tiny part of the ghost digimon wanted to be funny here, he shoved that thought out of his head. This was the absolute worst time to be cracking jokes. No, that could come after this whole mess had been dealt with and maybe once Julie Enoshima was in prison. So never, in that case. Yeah. That sounds about right. Bitch would just bribe her way out and the cycle would continue again. A shame we can't do to her what happened with Mint. Though, that was its own separate mess. Nor do the digimon hunters appear to exist. The actual ones, not the ones that were erased from this universe not that long ago. Even if the former did exist (somehow), they bring with them time travel and all the baggage one associates with that stuff. Better to not think about for now.
"Not that I can think of." Bakemon answered and shifted his focus back over to the ruins. Staring for a couple seconds, his attention shifted back over to Victoria, Aaron and their partner digimon. "I suspect you want me to help with the search?"
Aaron nodded.
"You could say that." he announced and dug into his trenchcoat. Pulling out three first aid kits, he handed one off to Victoria and Lady Devimon and the second kit over to Bakemon. Both parties accepted the gift, the former being the first to shoot off towards the middle of this disaster. Which just left Aaron, Olrumon and Bakemon to pick up the rear.
"Uh… can I ask you something?" Bakemon inquired as he floated up to meet Aaron's gaze. Getting a nod from the mending detective, he took the opportunity to compose his thoughts. Wouldn't want to ask something stupid here in the face of a terrorist attack. Especially while the mad bomber was on the loose. "Why exactly do you have multiple first aid kits on you?"
Aaron stared down at the ground.
"We have friends who are clumsy and get injured easily." Olrumon announced, Bakemon's gaze flicking over to the idol rabbit digimon.
"Are these friends part of DA03 as well?" Bakemon continued and got a nod from both parties. Then it's back to look at the rubble. To think that this place was once a center of law and community. Now, it would take significant time, money and energy to just plan out a new courthouse and in turn, build it for this community.
"Yeah. Once you've seen the stuff we have, it's kind of necessary." Aaron added as he came to a stop in front of some large chunks of broken concrete.
Boulder Song!
The pieces of concrete floated up into the air, getting pushed out of the way for the sake of possible rescue of the person underneath. In this particular case, there was someone. Very much confused and no doubt afraid, they accepted the rescue with open arms.
"Uh… thank you." the person announced, scurrying away to safety before Aaron could use his first aid kit on him. Rude. At least let him ask if you have any injuries. But no, that's asking too much here. Considering a possibly traumatic event just occurred, it can't be helped. That's just the nature of people. But that could be looked past. As for Bakemon, he was doing his best to lift up the various pieces of rubble in the hopes of helping.
"The ability to be intangible would be really nice right about now." Bakemon thought and let out a sigh. Setting the first aid kit down, his attention shifted to the next pile of rubble. A part of him wondered if this was something that Victoria, Aaron and their digimon did on a daily basis. Probably not. No, their duties were likely varied and complicated. As befitting an organization whose goal was to prevent the world from being destroyed. Usually from behind the scenes. But the events as of late required them to be more proactive and operate out in the open. At least, that was what it seemed like. Whether or not it was actually the case, remained to be seen. For now, Bakemon shoved that thought to the back of his mind and got to work moving the debris. While likely back breaking for humans, he was managing quite well. Though, the ghost digimon knew he was very much not the best fit here. No, they would be better off with someone who was muscular. Yet, he would do his best regardless. Simple as that. "Here we go."
Lifting a stone up, Bakemon was met with a young girl. Holding a toy, she was dressed in casual attire. Holding a stuffed doll, she attempted to ball herself up even further. Averting her gaze, Bakemon sighed. While he had no clue what the docket was, he had a clearer picture now. Which made it that much worse. Julie Enoshima always was a fan of hurting children. Fuck. That's why mommy kitty is here. Harlequin is such a dummy to forget that fact. Oh well.
"It's okay. I'm one of the good guys." Bakemon greeted and held a hand out. Reluctantly, the girl reached out and grabbed hold. Bakemon pulled back, managing to pull the little girl out. Taking a moment to look her over, the ghost digimon watched her head away. Just in time for emergency services to arrive. Considering the sudden emergency this turned out to be, that's actually pretty good. But there's still the matter of BomberNanimon to deal with here. Which looked to be that of Victoria and Lady Devimon's priority here. Closing the distance with remarkable ease, there was little need to digivolve/evolve in this case. No, the lady devil digimon scooped the target up by his leg and floated up into the air.
"So, care to tell us why you decided to blow up this building?" Victoria inquired, her partner taking care to angle their captive in such a way that the black cat could meet their gaze. Not really necessary, but a nice touch nonetheless. Even if it absolutely confused the first responders hard at work trying to find people and had the potential of making things worse.
"I got paid." BomberNanimon announced and was met with a sigh from Victoria. Kicking a rock away, she inched ever closer to the bomber digimon. In turn, BomberNanimon stared down at the ground. "Okay. Julie Enoshima threatened to turn my entire family over to Distant Harmony and then slipped a payment for the sake of not looking like the bad person."
Victoria raised an eyebrow, her foot connecting with a piece of rubble. Shattering with a single kick, that was the true power of
"Do you know the lengths that Miss Enoshima is willing to go for what she wants? You should consider yourself lucky that she hasn't killed your family already by proxy." Victoria answered and watched BomberNanimon go limp. Not by death, but by understanding how fucked they actually were. Getting set down right after, Victoria pulled a notebook out. Scribing something down within, back away it went. Nonetheless, the black cat and her digimon partner headed back over to the trio. Very much not happy about this, that was an understandable feeling to have here.
"Is there anything I can do for you, Victoria?" Aaron inquired and Victoria shook her head. Turning her attention to the rubble, she and Lady Devimon got to work.
.
Julie Enoshima was not amused in the slightest. She was a busy woman, after all. Delays like this were to be squashed at the first opportunity.
"Yes, I'm still on track for our plans." the bitch announced into the phone, very much not happy about this. Not that I want her to be. She doesn't deserve such feelings. "Of course I'll continue to support Distant Harmony after the invasion. You have my word."
Ending the call right after, an angry expression hung proudly to Julie's face. Setting the phone down, she picked up a black tailmon plush. Ripping the poor thing's head off, she took the time to rip it apart that much further. Just in case someone was looking in and needed to get the message across that much further. Not that Harlequin needed such a lesson. She's practically an expert when it comes to that.
Just one more worrying thing to deal with on top of everything else threatening to burst forth and end everything. Because that's what this job now entailed - trying my hardest to not intervene in the face of the ov-
Oh my. Yes. I think I can help in that way.
