When Major Sheppard had reported the massive storm heading for Atlantis and McKay figured out that it would pass over the mainland, Xander and Cordelia had volunteered to help Teyla and Dr. Beckett evacuate the Athosians. They were just waiting on a hunting party that included some teenagers, when word came over the radio that the Genii had invaded Atlantis and killed people.
"So they're not just traitorous bastards, they're murdering bastards on top of it." Xander muttered.
"There's nothing we can do about that right now, Xander. We have to wait for those kids. But once they're back, we can go help." Cordelia assured him.
"Help how?" Dr. Beckett asked. "What good could two people be against an invading group?"
"You could say, we have some...training, that may come in handy." Xander answered. "And no, it's not something we can discuss."
"Aye, I get that. I can see you having done some Black Ops type work Xander, but I was unaware that you as a civilian had, Cordelia."
"While I can't speak to Xander's potential Black Ops type work, it being Classified." Cordelia said, surmising that Charlie Kowalski probably had, Xander having told her about his Halloween experience, in broad terms, Kowalski's knowledge unrelated to the Stargate Program, not being something she was cleared to know, when bringing her into the Program. "I can tell you I haven't done any. But we grew up in a town with a really bad gang problem. We were part of a Take Back the Night Initiative, that Xander was a founding member of. I joined later. Let's just say, we learned a few things in that group that might come in handy." Cordelia told him.
Once the hunting party had returned and was safely aboard the puddle jumper, Xander prepared to take off.
"Xander, you can't think to fly thru this storm!" Dr. Beckett exclaimed.
"We don't have to fly thru the storm, Doc. We can go up and over. The worst of it hasn't hit Atlantis yet and we can move faster then the storm. Alot faster, especially if we're above it. We'll only be in it long enough to descend into Atlantis."
"Cordy, when we get there, I want you to stay with the jumper and guard Beckett and the kids. Teyla and I can handle helping with the Genii."
"Alright, just be careful."
Only Xander and Teyla had had any weapons when they left for the mainland and those were just knives, not having brought guns to evacuate civilians. Xander handed his to Cordelia, he knew she could use it, he'd seen her use knives against demons when they were teenagers. People were a different matter and not one she'd ever had to deal with before, but Xander knew, she'd do whatever was necessary to protect those kids. He'd parked the jumper well away from the main area were the expedition was, hoping the distance would provide protection.
"Keep your radio on, Cordy. It'll help you keep track of what's going on and stay ready to take off at a moment's notice. Those kids have to come first." Xander told her, before he and Teyla left.
"Agreed." They briefly kissed and Xander and Teyla left, moving fast, both having better then average stamina.
"What should we do first, Xander?" Teyla asked.
"Secure the armory and get weapons." He answered.
She nodded approvingly.
It didn't take long for them arrive in the vicinity of the armory and stopping around a corner, Xander used his hearing to detect the breathing of two people. Putting his mouth near Teyla's ear, in a low tone, he murmured. "Two." She understood. With hand gestures, Xander indicated he would circle around and then the two would come up behind the guards and each take one. Nodding in agreement, Teyla waited until she saw him on the other side of the armory and then moved, fast, just as he did, each gliding up behind their individual target and quickly dispatching them. They hid the bodies in a maintenance hatch and grabbed P90's and handguns.
Using a life signs detector he'd grabbed from the puddle jumper, to keep track of everyone, they began moving thru Atlantis. When life signs disappeared, Xander knew the lone moving dot was Sheppard taking out Genii. He knew Sheppard had actual Black Ops training, not second hand info in his head. He and Teyla had dispatched a few themselves when they ran into a problem. Sora, the Genii woman who believed Teyla had murdered her father. She challenged Teyla to combat.
"Go on Xander, I will deal with this." Teyla assured him. Knowing she could handle herself quite well, Xander just nodded and continued making his way to the control room. He arrived just in time to hear McKay arguing with an older man with a badly pock marked face, about the shield and saying he couldn't make it work and confessing he was an arrogant man who tended to think all of his plans would work. The soldier hit him and then ordered the Stargate activated and grabbed Dr. Weir, saying he was going to take her with them. The others with him left, abandoning the girl Teyla was dealing with. Sheppard shot the Genii soldier holding Dr. Weir and he let go of her and fell back into the Stargate.
"For once, your arrogance is a good thing, McKay." Xander complimented as he entered the control room.
"Xander, when did you get here?" Elizabeth asked.
"We arrived about an hour ago, Teyla and I took out several of the Genii. She's currently dealing with that Sora girl. So McKay, were you bluffing or is the shield not working?"
"I'm not sure. I hope I was bluffing. I need to activate it."
"How long until the wave hits?" Elizabeth asked.
"Two minutes." McKay answered.
Elizabeth tapped her earpiece and said. "Two minutes until the storm wave hits. We will activate the shield in one minute thirty seconds. Report to the control room."
Xander grabbed his radio. "Cordy, take off, stay above the floor, we're activating the shield in approximately one minute."
"Okay."
Fortunately, McKay's plan did work and Atlantis was protected. Also fortunately, Cordelia on her very first attempt to fly a puddle jumper, succeeded in hovering above the floor while an electrical wave moved thru it and powered the shield, much to Xander's relief.
