"Oh my God, Theo!" Isabelle screamed, her voice filled with terror as she sprinted toward Theo.
Theo was trembling, his heart pounding in his chest. When he saw the enormous dragon standing before Mia, he didn't hesitate for a moment. Stepping between them, he closed his eyes tightly, knowing that Jace was shielding Mia with his own body. He fought to suppress his fear, fully aware that dragons were notoriously sensitive to the emotions around them.
As Isabelle's desperate cry reached his ears, Theo slowly opened his eyes, relief flooding over him as he realized he was still alive. His heart continued to race, and his head felt dizzy. Isabelle rushed to his side, her hands checking his face and arms to ensure he was unharmed.
Breathing heavily, Theo asked, "How's Mia?"
Isabelle hesitated for a moment, her gaze shifting towards Jace, who was carefully carrying Mia away to the reserve infirmary. She turned back to Theo and said, "Mia's fine. She passed out from using too much magic."
Theo nodded, his gratitude evident in his eyes as Isabelle rushed off to be with Mia. Left alone with the dragon, he couldn't help but be amazed. It was rare for a dragon to listen to anyone other than its rider, and yet this one had obeyed him without hesitation. The dragon regarded him with curious, fiery eyes, its head resting on the ground as it exhaled hot breath.
Charlie hurried over to Theo, urgently advising him to step away from the dragon. "Step away slowly, Theo," Charlie warned.
Suddenly the dragon was looking at Charlie fiercely as he started to advance slowly towards Charlie. The dragon tamers tried in vain to get the dragon away from Charlie and Theo.
"Let me try," Theo said to Charlie.
"Theo, he's a wild dragon. He's dangerous." Charlie said worriedly
Undaunted, Theo stood his ground, looking directly at the dragon and extending his hand. "Dohaerās!" he said, and then added, "Lykirī."
The dragon gazed at Theo for a few seconds, its advance halted, and then it lowered its head back to the ground. Charlie watched in disbelief as the dragon responded to Theo's command.
"It's impossible," Charlie muttered, staring at Theo and the dragon in astonishment.
"What's impossible?" Theo inquired.
Charlie explained, "The dragon in front of you is Balerion, he's been without a rider for centuries. It's the first time he listens to a command."
Grinning amused at the dragon, Theo asked, "So, Balerion, huh?"
As if in response, Balerion emitted a low growl, as if confirming his identity and acknowledging Theo's presence.
Inside the infirmary, a heavy silence hung in the air. Isabelle and Enzo stood on one side of their daughter Mia's bed, their faces etched with concern. Jace, seated in a chair to Mia's left, buried his face in his hands, attempting to process the harrowing events that had just unfolded. Pansy and Blaise, standing nearby, were unsure of what to do; everything had unfolded so rapidly.
Suddenly, Mia's raspy voice broke through the stillness, "Where..where am I?"
Jace lifted his head and gently grasped Mia's hand. In a soft, reassuring tone, he told her, "You're in the reserve infirmary, gave us quite the scare"
Mia furrowed her brow and attempted to sit up, wincing in pain.
"Be careful, dolcezza," Enzo cautioned, arranging pillows behind her to support her as she sat up. Isabelle promptly summoned a glass of water and offered it to Mia. Mia, glancing at Pansy and Blaise, apologized for the fright she had caused.
Pansy shook her head, a reassuring smile on her face. "The important thing is that you're okay."
Blaise nodded in agreement and chimed in, "We still have plenty of days left to enjoy."
Mia turned her gaze to Jace, her eyes filled with worry. "What happened?"
Jace began to explain, "Teddy stepped in between us and the dragon telling him no while I shielded you with my body."
Mia's concern deepened as she asked, "Is Teddy okay?"
At that moment, the infirmary door swung open, and Theo entered, followed closely by Charlie. All eyes in the room immediately turned toward them.
Theo hastened to approach Mia, offering her a warm smile. "Hey there," he said gently. "I'm fine, Star. Don't worry."
Mia let out a sigh of relief, her eyes welling up with gratitude. "Thank goodness," she murmured, relieved to see Theo safe and sound.
Charlie, still trying to process the astonishing events involving Theo and Balerion, suddenly blurted out, "Theo has become Balerion's new rider."
Mia, upon hearing the name Balerion, couldn't help but express her disbelief. "That's impossible," she protested, her voice filled with skepticism. "Balerion is a wild dragon."
Charlie nodded, his shock evident as he admitted, "I thought the same thing."
Theo, however, beamed with pride, his chest puffed out as he proclaimed, "Well, I guess I'm even cooler now than I was before."
Laughter filled the infirmary as Jace chimed in, teasingly telling Theo, "I'll always be Mia's favorite, no matter what."
Theo playfully stuck his tongue out at Jace, retorting, "Well, at least I have a dragon, and you don't."
Jace countered by sticking his own tongue out and declaring, "Dragons don't mean shit."
Turning to Mia, who watched the exchange with an amused smile, Theo batted his eyelashes innocently at her and inquired, "So, Star, between Jace and me, who's your favorite?"
Mia playfully considered her options for a moment, and then burst into laughter. "My favorite," she announced, "is Blaise."
Theo and Jace exchanged puzzled glances before slowly turning to glare at Blaise, who raised his hands in surrender, a mischievous grin on his face. "It's because I'm Italian," he quipped, "and you know Italians are just superior."
Enzo erupted into laughter, while Isabelle couldn't resist playfully smacking her husband on the back of the head, making him look momentarily hurt as the boys all laughed.
Charlie turned to Mia and suggested, "If you're up for it, we can start our visit to the reserve."
Mia nodded and, with the support of both Theo and Jace, she carefully got out of bed. One by one, they made their way out of the infirmary. Waiting for them outside were some black jeeps, along with two boys dressed in dragon tamer attire.
One of the boys immediately caught Mia's attention. He had platinum hair and striking ice blue eyes, standing with a slightly haughty posture. He bore a striking resemblance to an older version of André Söderholm. Theo, noticing Mia's gaze, was surprised by the uncanny resemblance between the boy and Mia's former adversary.
Curious, Jace asked, "What are you two looking at?"
Theo subtly nodded toward the boy who seemed like a clone of André Söderholm.
Taken aback, Jace inquired, "Are you by any chance related to André Söderholm?"
The boy, with a surprising smile, introduced himself, "Name's Einar, André is my little cousin."
"That's why you seemed familiar to me," Mia remarked.
Einar, equally curious, "You know my cousin?"
Theo nodded and dryly remarked, "Unfortunately, we do have the displeasure of knowing him."
Einar studied them closely and then widened his eyes in realization. "You're the Unholy Trinity," he exclaimed.
Jace, with an air of nonchalance, draped an arm around Mia's shoulders and inspected his nails. "So, our reputation precedes us?," he quipped.
Einar, amused by the encounter, called out to another boy nearby. "Rashad, come here."
Rashad approached, "What do you want, Einar? We're about to start the visit"
Einar, with a smirk, pointed to the trio and announced, "These kids right here are the Unholy Trinity."
Rashad's eyes widened, and he exclaimed, "You're practically Durmstrang royalty!."
The trio exchanged surprised glances, and Mia asked, "How do you know us?"
"André won't stop talking about you three." Einar explained
Theo raised an eyebrow in astonishment, while Jace couldn't resist adding, "We're talking about the same André 'I'm better than you in every way' Söderholm here, right? He hates us, he bullied Mia all through first year to the start of third year."
Einar scratched his neck in embarrassment and admitted, "I'm sorry for my cousin's attitude."
Mia reassured him, saying, "It's not your fault."
Einar added, "I told him to not pick fights with you three, but he doesn't like being told what to do."
"Everyone ready?" Charlie's voice resonated
With unanimous nods, Mia's parents, Pansy, Blaise, and Charlie settled into Rashad's jeep, while Mia, Theo, and Jace climbed into Einar's.
The jeeps rolled along a rugged dirt road that meandered through a lush, dense forest. Soon, the trees gave way, revealing a vast expanse of verdant plains. At the center of this open space stood an ancient stone fortress, the operational hub of the reserve.
As they parked near the fortress, the group disembarked with palpable excitement in the air. The surroundings were alive with an almost mystical hum, and the scent of fresh pine wafted through the breeze. Dragon tamers, clad in dark leather attire, greeted them warmly and guided them toward an open esplanade where the dragons awaited.
Their first stop on the tour led them to a natural amphitheater, where they were presented with the sheer majesty of these creatures. In the center, a tamer with long, dark hair appeared, astride an awe-inspiring dragon adorned with shimmering golden scales. The dragon unfurled its wings and let out a roar that resonated, causing the very ground beneath them to tremble.
Charlie then led them on a winding path through the forest, offering glimpses of dragons of varying sizes and colors. Some lurked among the towering trees, while others circled gracefully in the skies above. Each dragon was a masterpiece of magical evolution, their wings seemingly crafted from crystal and their colors defying the limits of imagination.
Their journey continued to an area where they could approach smaller dragons, their scales emitting a soft, radiant glow that begged to be touched. Finally, they made their way back to the reserve's base of operations, where they partook in a traditional Romanian dinner, surrounded by dragon tamers who regaled them with captivating stories from their experiences in the reserve.
Charlie rose from his seat, a drink in hand, and directed his gaze towards Theo. "I'd like to propose a toast," he began, a warm smile on his face. "To Balerion's new rider."
The dining room's occupants, aware of the recent events, turned their attention to Theo. Jace clapped him on the back, Mia beamed at him, and the atmosphere grew charged with anticipation. Glasses were raised, and cheers erupted throughout the room.
Jace added to the excitement, shouting out, "For Theodore Aeneas Nott!" Mia joined in, whistling loudly to show her enthusiasm.
The entire dining room joined in, shouting in unison, "For Theodore Aeneas Nott!"
Amid the jubilant celebration, Einar turned his gaze to Theo, curiosity burning in his eyes."What do you know about your new dragon?"
Theo, still caught up in the festivities, admitted, "I don't know much; Mia's the expert."
Einar continued his line of questioning, "Do you know who Viserys Targaryen is?"
"Mia's the only one who has read Fire & Blood." Theo confessed
Mia, engrossed in animated conversation with Jace, Charlie, Pansy, and Blaise, seemed to be enjoying herself immensely. Meanwhile, Mia's parents engaged in a lively discussion with Rashad.
Einar went on to share his knowledge, revealing the tale of Viserys I Targaryen. "Viserys was born into the legendary House Targaryen," he began, his voice filled with reverence for the history. "A family known for its silver hair and dragon task was to unite the Seven Kingdoms and restore peace. However his reign was clouded by the infamous "Dance of the Dragons," a brutal civil war that tore the Targaryen dynasty apart. Viserys was also Balerion's last rider. After that, nobody claimed Balerion, only those who had Targaryen blood could tame said that the Targaryens were closer to the gods than to men, but they said it was because of their dragons. Without them, they were like everyone else."
Theo's curiosity piqued, and he leaned in as he asked, "And Balerion? Do you have any interesting stories about him?"
Einar nodded, his eyes gleaming with the anticipation of sharing a fascinating tale. He began, "Balerion, the Black Dread, was one of the most formidable and feared dragons ever to grace the skies of Westeros."
As he spoke, Einar's voice carried a sense of reverence for the ancient dragon. "Balerion arrived in Westeros ridden by Aegon Targaryen. With Balerion at his side, Aegon and his sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya, embarked on a conquest unparalleled in the history of Westeros – what would later be known as the Targaryen Conquest."
He continued, his words painting a vivid picture of the dragon's role in the conquest. "Throughout the conquest, Balerion became a symbol of terror and power. His colossal shadow stretched across the land as Aegon solidified his reign and the Targaryen dynasty's dominance."
Einar paused for a moment, allowing the weight of Balerion's legacy to sink in. "After the war, Balerion found rest on Dragonstone, the island fortress of the Targaryens. There, his sheer size and immense strength served as a constant deterrent, dissuading any would-be challengers from even considering defying the ruling dynasty."
Theo's curiosity still burning bright, he turned to Einar and inquired, "Are there any other Targaryen dragons in the reserve?"
Einar, a hint of curiosity in his eyes, asked, "Why do you want to know?"
Theo gestured toward Jace and Mia, who were engaged in conversation nearby, and explained, "Mia and Jace could also use dragons."
Einar nodded thoughtfully and said, "I thought Charlie was teaching you how to raise their own dragons."
Theo nodded in agreement. "He is, but it would be incredibly cool if Mia, Jace, and I could bond with the dragons of the first Targaryens."
Einar, glancing around to ensure no one was eavesdropping, leaned closer to Theo and whispered, "Meraxes and Vhagar are in the most hidden part of the reserve, but it's strictly forbidden to visit them. They're wild dragons."
Mischief danced in Theo's eyes as he replied, "Well," he said with confidence, "if I managed to tame Balerion, I'm sure Mia and Jace won't have any trouble taming Vhagar and Meraxes."
Einar regarded Theo with a sly grin and asked, "So, which one do you think Mia will bond with, and which one do you think Jace will bond with?"
Theo wore a playful smirk as he contemplated the question. "Mia will surely want Vhagar, she wanted to name her dragon to honor Visenya Targaryen, that leaves Meraxes to Jace"
Einar nodded in agreement as Theo laughed. It was a thrilling prospect, the idea of his two best friends taming the other Targaryen dragons. Who knew ? Maybe the Unholy Trinity could bring back House Targaryen to its former glory.
