Chapter 35
Orientation for The Provisional Licensing
The day of the Licensing Exam came. Freya sat on the bus next to Bakugo. Freya was looking out the window. She had one of her earphones in. She was nervous but yet excited to do this. Freya had a spot at her Godmother's agency as a work study soon as she passes her Licensing. Bakugo squeezed her leg. She looked at him and saw him giving her his cocky grin. She returned it as they arrived at the spot and the students got off the bus. The place was crowded.
"Ugh. I'm getting kind of nervous." Jiro said. Mineta was rocking on his feet from nerves. Freya and Bakugo stood with Kirishima and Kaminari.
"I wonder what they're gonna make us do. Ugh. What if I can't get my license?" Mineta said. Freya rolled her eyes at him as her father appeared in front of Mineta.
"Mineta." Aizawa said. Mineta looked at him as Aizawa bowed to his height. "Don't ask if you can. Say you will."
"Right. Sure. I've so got this!" Mineta said. Aizawa stood up and looked at his students. All looked nervous, but some like his daughter had looks like they were ready to conquer this test.
"If you can pass this test and get your provisional licenses, then you novice eggs will hatch into chicks. You'll be semi-pros." Aizawa said. He gave them all a serious look. "I expect your best." Freya gave him a smile and he knew she wouldn't disappoint.
"Alright. I can't wait to be a heroic chicken." Kaminari said as he wrapped an arm around Freya's shoulder. Kirishima did the same with Freya. Bakugo shot the two boys a glare.
"Let's call out the usual, you guys." Kirishima said. Freya giggled. A man with a hat appeared between the students. "On my mark! Go Plus..."
"Ultra!" Kirishima and the boy shouted. Freya turned to see the guy with the hat and raised an eyebrow.
"You know it's pretty rude to barge into other people's huddles like that Inasa." A guy with light purple hair and hat said. A girl stood with him and a guy covered in hair was with him. Inasa looked shocked.
"What? Pardon me." Inasa said. He stood straight with his arms pressed on his side. "I am so... very... extremely.. sorry!" He slammed his head into the ground into a bow, making the girls jump in shock. Bakugo pulled Freya from Kirishima and next to him.
"Who is this guy? I do not trust his enthusrasm." Kaminari said. Aizawa seemed to reconize the guy.
"Hey, look at their uniforms." Jiro said.
"They're from that famous school on the other side of Japan." Freya said.
"UA in the East Hitetsu in the West." Bakugo said Yoarashi stood with excitement. His hat was laying on the ground.
"I wanted to say it just once. Plus Ultra! See, I really love UA High School. I am extremely honored to compete against such incredible students. I'm so looking forward to it." Yoarashi said, blood was coming down his head.
"Oh. Blood." The girl said.
"Let's go." Shishikura said and the students head for the building.
"Inasa Yoarashi." Aizawa said. Freya looked at her father.
"Father? Do you know that guy?" Freya asked.
"Indeed. He's strong." Aizawa said. The Students gasp as they watch Yoarashi walk away, talking. "He's the same year as you all and received the top scores for students admitted through recommendations. But for some unknown reason, he turned down his acceptance to UA and went to Shiketsu."
"Wait. He's our age?" Izuku asked. Freya didn't seem to remember him during the testing. She had been more focused on winning. She remembered Todoroki.
"Hold on. Is anyone else confused here? This guy says that he loves our school, but he turned down his chance to enroll when it was offered?" Sero asked.
"Yeah. What a weirdo." Mina said. Freya wondered if there was more to the story then what was being told.
"Maybe, but he's the real deal. Keep an eye on him." Aizawa said.
"Eraser." A very familiar voice came and Freya turned as Aizawa felt a shiver go down his spine at the voice. Freya smiled wide as she saw Ms. Joke heading their way. "I'd know that scowl anywhere! I saw you on TV and at the Sports Festival. But it's been a while since we were this close in person. Freya was amused as she saw her father's eye twitching.
"Why do you look amuzed, Brat?" Bakugo said.
"Just watch. Ms. Joke knows my dad and family." Freya said. Her friends gave her confused looks. "She has a crush on my dad."
"Wait. Ms. Joke?" Izuku asked as Ms. Joke came up to Aizawa.
"Let's get married." Ms. Joke said. Aizawa gasped and Freya had to bite her lip from laughing.
"No." Aizawa said. Mina gasped in delight. Ms. Joke laughs.
"You're a real laugh riot, buddy." Ms. Joke said.
"As usual, you're impossible, Joke." Aizawa said. Izuku lit up when he realized who she was.
"Oh, that's Ms. Joke. The smile hero! Her Quirk is Outburst! She forces people around her to laugh which affects their ability to think and keeps them from being able to move. Her fights against villains are always full of insanity!" Izuku said.
"Never works on my dad thought. I find it amuzing." Freya said with a smirk as Aizawa glares at his daughter.
"Come on, imagine it! If I was your wife, you'd have a future full of constant laughter." Ms. Joke said.
"That sounds like an actaul nightmare." Aizawa said. Ms. Joke starts laughing.
"It seems like you two are close." Tsu said.
"Our agencies were near each other. As young heroes striving to make a difference in the world, a mutual love bloomed. Until he was married and had a daughter. Speaking of which. There she is. Hi, Freya." Ms. Joke said, seeing Freya.
"Hi. Ms. Joke. Keep wishing all you want but I think my father is married to his work." Freya said. Aizawa shot her a glare which she sent him a smirk.
"A girl can dream can't she." Ms. Joke said.
"No." Aizawa said.
"I do miss your quick retorts. I see Freya has more of her mothers kindness then your grumpy atitude." Ms. Joke said. Kaminari and Kirishima seemed to laugh at that. "You're my favorite person to tease, future husband." Aizawa closed his eyes.
"So, Joke. If you're here then that just mean..." Aizawa said.
"That's right." Ms. Joke said. She turned to a group of students that were walking towards them. "Over here, everyone. This is UA."
"Oh, whoa, it really is Class A." A black haired boy said.
"Wow, that's so amazing. I've seem them on TV before." A blonde hair girl said.
"Second years from Ketsubutsu Academy. This is Class 2. They're my students. The black haired boy grabbed Izuku's hands.
"Hey, I'm Shindo! Seems like UA's had a lotta trouble this year, must of been trouble for you." Shindo said.
"Uh, yeah." Izuku said. Shindo saw Freya and sent her a wink, making her blush a bit and Bakugo send the boy a growl to back off. Shindo jumped in front of Kaminari.
"But even so, you're all still aiming to become pro heroes despite those hardships." Shindo said, jumping to Jiro. "It's wonderful." He clutched his fist and gave them all a wink. "Hearts full of fortitude. I believe that's what every hero in the world needs to have."
'I don't like this. He seems a little to nice and I think he pissed Bakugo off with winking at me.' Freya said as she saw Bakugo glaring at the boy with a death glare. Shindo turned to Bakugo.
"And Bakugo. It must've been hard for you what with that whole kidnapping incident." Shindo said.
"Huh?" Bakugo said.
"You have especially strong will, don't you?" Shindo asked. He held his hand out to Bakugo, who glared at it. "Today, I'm gonna do my best to learn from you. I really hope you don't mind. And you must be Freya. Your pretty in person then on TV." Freya had to grab his arm from stopping Bakugo from pouncing on the dude, but Bakugo slaps Shindo's hand away.
"Stop pretending. What you say doesn't match the look in your eyes. And stop flirting with my girlfriend." Bakugo said, putting an arm around Freya. Freya didn't miss the look of something in Shindo's eyes. She realized Bakugo was right.
"Hey, man, don't be so rude! Sorry, he's just like that." Kirishima said. Freya and Bakugo share looks as Shindo talked to Kirishima.
"You saw it?" Bakugo said.
"Yes. I got a feeling we'll be in a fight on our hands with this test." Freya whispered. Bakugo didn't look happy. Freya had a feeling this was going to be a very interesting test.
"Hey. Get your costumes and head to orientation. There's no time to waste." Aizawa said, walking away without looking at Ms. Joke.
"Yes, sir." The students say. Bakugo and Freya start following their teacher towards the stadium. They entered the area for their orientation and joined the boys. Bakugo looked annoyed as Freya joined him, Kirishima, and Kaminari. The area was packed full of kids. Freya felt her nerves hitting.
"Look at this crowd." Izuku said.
"There's so many." Uraraka said.
"More of a challenge for all of us." Freya said. A groan comes and a blonde haired man lifts his head off the desk. Freya reconized him as Mera from the Heroes Public Safety Commission. He seemed to be always sleeping or tired.
"Okay then. Let's do this exam thing. I'm from, uh, the Heroes Public Safety Commission. Name's Mera." Mera said. He lowered his head sounding tired. "My Circadian Rhythm is so screwed up. Ah, man." Freya sighed.
"They really had that loser as our ref or whatever?" Kaminari asked.
"Apparently." Freya said.
"I've been swamped lately and I haven't gotten much rest. We're too short staffed. I'm so tired." Mera said. His body was swaying in his seat. He put his hand to his face. "With that confession, I'll now begin orientation." Freya and Izuku share looks.
'Poor guy should be replaced or given a break.' Freya thought.
"So, about the content of this license thing. Basically, 1,540 examinees compete in a free-for-all exercise or whatever we're calling it this year." Mera said.
"Seriously? That's not a lot of info." Sero said.
"See, we've got a lot of pros around, and since Stain was arrested, many people have expressed doubts about the status of heroes in society. But when you really think about it, getting paid makes sense. If you're going to risk your life to save someone, why shouldn't you ask for a reward, huh? That's just the way the world works. God, I could use a coffee."
"Geez. He sounds like my dad at times." Freya said. Bakugo chuckled.
"Anyway, whether they're in it for compensation or out of sense of duty, we've got too many heroes working together in the streets these days to keep villains at bay. Honestly, the time between when an incident begins and when it's resolved is ridiculously short. You are all here trying to receive your Provisional licenses, so you'll be swept up in this tiresome mess yourselves pretty soon. Those of you who don't have the speed, frankly, just won't cut it. Which is why that's what you'll be tested on." Mera said, looking serious. A number popped up on the screen. It read 100. "The first 100 students to fulfil the requirements will pass today." Freya's eyes widen.
"There are over 1,500 people taking this test. I thought they said that about half of us would be passing." Yaoyorozu said with a worried face.
"That means it's actually less than ten percent who'll get a license." Tsu said.
"Oh, man, I'm getting way more nervous." Jiro said. Mera stands up.
"Well, the world can be pretty crappy. I suppose I should say something about luck. So, anyway, here are the basic rules." Mera said, holding up a ball and what looked like a button. "The examinee will put three of these targets on his or her body. They can go anywhere you want as long as it's an exposed area. So no soles of the feet or armpits. Each of you will also have six of these balls. The targets are programmed to light up whenever they've been touched by the balls. If all three targets light up, you're out. Oh, and the person who lights up your third target will get credit for your defeat. You get through this round by taking down two people. Got it? Good." He didn't give them time to respond. People came around handing out targets. "What else? Uh, I guess we'll start passing out the targets and balls. Then, you'll have a few minutes to get situated after we open." Freya got her stuff and quickly put the targets on. One went on her right arm, one on her hip, and the last was on the midle of her chest.
"Open?" Todoroki and Freya asked. A rumbling started in the building as students got their targets on. The ceiling split open. Freya realized then they were in a container in the middle of an arena. Freya looked around. There were different building and what looked like a pool with waterfall.
'This should be fun.' Freya thought with a grin.
"I'm sure each of you have different terrains that you like or want to avoid. Use your Quirks well and do your best. Or not. Whatever. Yes, I know, it makes for a great reveal, doesn't it? And for what?" Mera said. He put his hand on his head again. Freya sighed. "So much sleep lost for this. Hopefully some of these kids are fast and we can get this over with. Until then, I'm gonna rest my eyes." Aizawa sat a seat away from Joke. He sat with his arms crossed, not happy he had to deal with this woman.
"Eraser, your fly is down!" Ms. Joke laughed as she hid her mouth behind her hand. Eraser was looking for his classmates and daughter and found them as he tried to ignore the woman. Aizawa's eys twitched.
'Why is it that I can't find a moment of peace and quiet in my life?' Aizawa thought. He didn't mind Freya bugging him cause she knew when not to bother him on his bad days. She was a good kid.
"I can't believe you still have all your students! It's unusual for you not to have expelled someone. Not surprised Freya is in your class. I heard she's got a mix of boy you and Nikita and she's good. I can't wait to see her in action. You must actually like your class this time." Ms. Joke said.
"Not really." Aizawa said. Ms. Joke laughs.
"Don't be embarrassed. That's so like you! Please date me." Ms. Joke said.
"Shut up!" Aizawa said. Ms. Joke laughs.
"But really. You know what's about to happen down there. And yet, you didn't mention a thing to your class." Ms. Joke said. Aizawa shot her a glare, but kept quiet.
All the classes ran off the platform and head into the arena. Class 1A gathered around.
"Everyone! Stay close together, we'll fight as a group." Izuku said. Bakugo grabbed Freya's arm.
"Yeah right. This isn't a field trip. Freya. Your coming with me. Your my best defense." Bakugo growled, going off and pulling Freya with. Freya mouthed sorry to Izuku. She knew she was better at defense then fighting and Bakugo knew her the best.
"Idiot. Wait up!" Kirishima called. Him and Kaminari followed after them. Aizawa wasn't surprised that Freya was with Bakugo as they wondered off with Kirishima and Kaminari.
"Every year, the test is different. But one things always the same. It's kind of like a tradition during the Licensing Exam. Most of the students who compete in the Provisional Exam have pretty equal footing. Except for one school. UA comes in at a severe disadvantage. Because of the top school's Sports Festival is broadcast across the country, showing off not just your students Quirks, but their weaknesses and fighting styles, too. Kinda funny, isn't it?" Ms. Joke said. Aizawa kept a straight face. He knew Izuku and Freya would figure it out. Both were smart kids and Freya had heard from him how bad the Licensing Exams would get for UA.
A beep comes.
"The first test will now begin." The Announcer said.
"We need to get to a place to fight or take cover." Freya called as they ran. The boys stop and Freya slid to a stop.
"What do you mean? We fight." Kirishima said. He noticed a worried look on Freya's face.
"I know how bad it gets for UA students at the Practical Exams. Father told me when he came back last year from one. Since we are the only school that is broadcasted about our Quirks." Freya looked around and heard yells from where they had come from. "UA is immediately crushed in these exams." Kirishima and Kaminari looked worried. Bakugo got a wicked grin on his handsome face.
"Then let's make sure we win the first test. All of us." Bakugo said. Freya saw the glint in his eyes and felt the worry fade and she grinned as she grabbed her capture scarf.
"Right." Kirishima, Kaminari, and Freya said. They took off running to find a good place to start.
"So you think we'll be taken out? I don't really see a reason why I should've warned them." Aizawa said. Ms. Joke gave him a look. "I doubt anything would've changed if I had." He watched as Izuku and his group got balls thrown at them and they were already defending themselves. "They're still going to have to overcome this, either way. Real Heroes could turn this situation around. Besides, if they become pros, they'll face villains who already know their Quirks. Perhaps at UA, we look a little further ahead than other schools. I'm not worried." Aizawa saw everyone had determined looks and knew Freya was with good friends. He had a feeling all of them will come out of this winning and proving UA could do this.
AN: Whoo. I love the exams and Freya is gonna show what she can do. I do have a Naruto story called Tsunade's Daughter for any Naruto fans along with Black Clover and Attack on Titan. I am still gonna continue this story and also write those. I got plans till the final arc in the Manga. Let's hope we get an update on Bakugo and Aizawa in the new chapters. It's killing me as writer not knowing and hoping with what I got planned for them and Freya I can still do. Fingers crossed. Till next time.
