Chapter One

July 1991

It was three months to a decade exactly since Adrianna Potter-Black had been rescued from the Potter Cottage in Godric Hollow.

Where she once had vibrant red hair, her hair was now as black as midnight but still was quite curly and never seemed to want to be tamed. Her features were still so soft for an eleven-year-old, her eyes were a deep silver with bright emerald splotches throughout the irises to make an even more unique color that not any normal person would have. The scar that was above one of her eyebrows, once contained something more than just scar tissue, was now vacant of that morbid energy that had attached itself to her for a month. With her Blood Adoption the sinister energy that attaches itself to her soul had been destroyed as her blood was replaced by her birth parents to her now blood parents.

Today was her eleventh birthday, and the quiet but rebellious girl was more than thrilled with her age. She had just received her Hogwarts letter of acceptance a few months ago and her fathers were playfully arguing on whether she would end up in Slytherin or Gryffindor.

It was almost embarrassing but Adrianna felt as if she should be in Hufflepuff, she was more about loyalty and family than anything else. She could only imagine the fake betrayal on her fathers' faces when she would tell them this.

"Adrianna, come inside, Mon Petit Bebe."

Adrianna turned, her eyes landing on Father.

Father was the softer one between him and Papa.

He was always running around and making sure that she was happy, would sit near the fireplace in their French cottage and read her stories that he remembered his own uncle would read to him. Uncle Alphard had lived in this cottage and when she was adopted by her fathers they had moved from England to France, but she was still able to go to Hogwarts even though Beaubaxton had come forward and offered her to stay at their magical boarding school instead. He would do her hair and sing her lullabies, and his voice was softer than her papa's voice. Father's voice didn't get too loud, he had very light and feminine energy for a man.

Father was wearing a white button up dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, dark brown wool trousers, and some comfortable brown loafers. His black hair was in its usual style, a somewhat middle ground curly mess, and his soft features were warm when they were directed towards his little girl. He still couldn't believe she was about to start Hogwarts. Today though was her 11th birthday, and it was and should be just about her today.

"Father, I'm not a baby!" Adrianna cried as she folded her arms against her chest.

She was dressed in one of the multiple light weight dresses that her Aunt Narcissa would send to them. She had never met the woman but she would meet Cousin Draco (he was technically her Third Cousin), when she would go to Hogwarts.

"Nonsense, you'll always be my little baby. Even when you finish school and get married one day, you'll always be my baby girl. Now come here. Your Papa has made your birthday cake. Strawberry, your favorite. Don't give me that look either, he insisted on making it this year so if it doesn't taste as good as mine then just pretend," Father remarked, his small and thin arm was out for her to wrap her arm around. She stuck her hand in his, the coolness of his hand reminding her he didn't have good circulation. Something to do with his and her papa's childhood…

She knew that her fathers were brothers, and she was a blood child of incest.

She didn't care though, they still loved her.

They never hurt her, or scared her or told her bad things about her birth parents.

They told her all about Lily and James, and the adventures they would go on when they were attending Hogwarts, themselves. They loved her, and she loved them, and it was just as simple as that. No need to make it sound like she was being raised horribly.

The cottage was cobblestoned, and had many weatherworn windows that looked out to the scenic cliff side that it was built on. There was a cliff in the distance that faced the sea and almost an hour away there was a village that only Muggles inhabited. There were charms that were put on the house so that the Muggles wouldn't be able to come up to the house (Father and Papa didn't want the village folk to realize they were brothers and had a child). They had a fireplace that they could use the Floo Network through in order to get to where they needed to go or Apparate to another place.

The outside of the cottage was that of a storybook. There was a large garden that surrounded the entire cottage with so many wildflowers and little natural creeks that had fish in them. There was a swing set in the backyard for Adrianna. A huge oak tree that she would sit underneath on sunny days so she could cool off and read whatever book she wanted to, most of the time it was French literature because the Black family came from France a long time ago.

The inside of the one story cottage on the other hand was a mess.

The majority of the ground floor was open floor planned, with one hallway to the left side of the front room that had a bedroom both for her and for her fathers. There was an office, and there were two bathrooms (one for her parents and one for her). There were multiple pieces of furniture that were in the front room that had belonged to Uncle Alphard and a couple pieces of musical instruments such as a piano, harp, and violin. She knew how to play each and every one of them, including her papa's electric guitar.

Sitting on the ottoman in the middle of the sitting room was her guinea pig, Pumpkin. She had the coloring of orange and red and white. She was a special breed that a group of Magizoologists had found that had a more significant lifespan than a normal Muggle world guinea pig. Pumpkin was sitting with a tiny little flower crown on her head, letting out little squeaks of happiness when she saw Adrianna entering the cottage once again.

Adrianna rushed over to where Pumpkin was before she scooped her up and began to pepper kisses on the top of her head. She heard an exasperated sigh behind her, allowing her to know that Father wasn't too pleased with her messing with Pumpkin right before she would eat her birthday cake. She also was greeted with whining, making her turn her head to see that Papa was in his dog form, Padfoot, and he wanted just as much love as Pumpkin had gotten.

Sitting Pumpkin back down onto the ottoman she barely had time to react when Padfoot jumped on her and made her hit the carpeted rug underneath her feet. She giggled as he began to kiss and snuggle against her, his tall and heavy body almost suffocated her. She knew he was too jealous for his own good but she loved him just as fiercely as he loved her.

"Papa!"

She screeched playfully, before she reached her hands up and began to tickle him.

He wiggled in her arms happily before he turned back into his normal form, scooping her up in his arms. She pouted as she saw that there were paw prints that were on her dress. She tugged his arm and he glanced down, thankfully Father was too busy looking through the fridge for something. Papa pulled out his wand and tapped it towards her, making the stains disappear immediately.

Plopped down onto the bar stool she usually sat on at the kitchen island, Adrianna smiled warmer when the lights magically dimmed down and her father turned around with her simple one layered strawberry cake that had been made with real strawberries from the garden outside. Her father looked as if he had just graduated Hogwarts, himself, when he looked this happy and carefree but other times he looked just like how old he was, in his early thirties.

As her fathers sang her happy birthday, Adrianna beamed as she sat there and stared down at the lit candles that were nestled against the middle of the top of the cake, waiting to be blown out. There was a camera that was hovering next to her father, prepared to take shots of them. She had blinked a few times after she blew out her candles and the magical camera caught it, before she was peppered with kisses on her head and her face by her parents.

"What did you wish for, prongslet?"

Adrianna turned and peered at her papa.

He was dressed in one of his short sleeve band t-shirts from a Muggle heavy metal band, dark washed jeans and some combat boots. His hair, very similar but more curly than his brother's, was piled high on the top of his head. His wand was tucked on a wand holster against his left arm and there were tattoos that were etched across his arms and his chest. He didn't look anything like the proper and noble lord next to him, but then again Sirius Orion Black was nothing like his brother/husband. Anyone with eyes and common sense knew that.

"I can't tell you, papa! Or it won't come true," she pointed out, earning a soft chuckle from her father, as if telling him that she had him there. Papa on the other hand agreed for a moment that she was right before he lunged forward and began to tickle her mercilessly. She squealed the whole time, knowing that she was quite sensitive when it came to being tickled.

"Papa! Stop! I still won't tell you."

Papa eventually pulled away from her, more proud than playfully aggravated at her decision to stick with her decision. He enjoyed moments like this, with how he could raise her here in France until they would have to go back to Grimmauld Place during the school year.

He and Regulus had decided it would better if she wasn't in that house all the time, and so it was to no surprise he and him had decided to live in Uncle Alphard's old cottage (both of them knew growing up that Orion would go and visit their favorite uncle alone sometimes…which hinted towards the two of them having an incestious relationship themselves). The look on the painting of Uncle Alphard when they came to the cottage and they said Orion had died was basically confirming it since the portrait of Uncle Alphard looked as if he had lost his true love.

"Shush, mon cher, it's our daughter's birthday. If she wants to keep her birthday wish to herself then that's her decision. Now let's eat some cake," Father had proclaimed, before he cut a good piece of cake before handing it over to his daughter on one of the plates that had a painted drawing she had done for them when she was very little.

As Adrianna ate her cake she watched as her father leant against the kitchen island and her papa wrapped his arms around him before pressing himself against her father. He had his arms wrapped around his waist and his head was leant up against the crook between his neck and his shoulder blade. It was an awkward position since her papa was much taller than her father.

Still, it brought her happiness, knowing that her parents would always love each other. They would never divorce (which made Mother Morgana both weep but understand depending on if the relationship was abuse or simply if the couple had fallen out of love with each other).

"I think I know what House I want to be Sorted into," Adrianna said after she ate her piece of cake. She noted how her father arched one of his eyebrows silently in intrigue while her papa smirked and puffed his chest up as if he was expecting her to automatically say she would be in Gryffindor like he was and her birth parents were.

"No need to do so, pup. I've already prepared to get your latest wardrobe for school in red and gold. You will be the most adorable lioness there is."

Father reached over to where the sink dish rag was before smacking him in the side with it. It was still wet from him cleaning off some of the plates and left a few splotches of wet fabric behind. Papa chuckled and leant down to kiss his brother/husband on the cheek, as if he was asking for forgiveness. He would accept her House decision whether or not she would end up in his House.

"I want to be in Hufflepuff…"

Papa gasped aloud, his hand going up to his chest and his silver eyes widening incredibly. He stumbled backwards as if he had been fatally shot. "No! Not my own daughter! To be a badger, well that might be as bad as being a slimy snake."

"Watch it, mon cher. I might be the one with the title between us but I won't take this ly–"

Father stopped, his face becoming flustered at the way he had said this. He cleared his throat, embarrassed before he turned towards his daughter. He reached his hands out and put hers in his, squeezing them barely to let her know he was proud of her.

"I'm just going to ignore what you just said to papa because not only that sounded weird but it was probably inappropriate. I'm just glad that you are okay with this," Adrianna confessed, her head ducking down as she bit her lip.

"Of course I accept you wanting to be a badger. Some of my best friends in school were Hufflepuffs. They were very understandable when it came to your father and I's relationship. Despite our type of relationship being practiced almost in a devout manner, you know they did not seem pleased with us only having children in a case like you," Father confessed, a sadness appearing in his voice at the mention of the backlash they had received for not only being siblings but for them being the same sex when it came to their marriage.

The wixen world was not as bad as it was in the Muggle world but Adrianna knew it could be better.

Although incest was looked down upon now, since there were more Muggle-Borns that were being born and there being more Half-Bloods, it was still legal.

Same sex incest couples were discouraged because the only way for them to have a child wasn't through pregnancy but through blood adoption. Despite them having potions that could change their gender either temporarily or permanently, wizards turned witches weren't able to become pregnant and keep the babies. The babies would end up either miscarrying or becoming stillborns.

Adrianna wondered if her parents had tried that option.

Sometimes she would see them looking at an intricately carved box that was in their bedroom when she would be passing by.

She swore she had seen a little lock of baby hair still preserved despite the development of time.

She wanted both to open the box and see if she could find anything else in the box than the lock of hair her sibling had, but other times she knew it would be in the wrong of her to do so. Her parents deserved their privacy, and if they didn't want to talk about the miscarried or stillborn baby until she was older or not at all then it was their decision.

She hadn't expected to hear knocking on the front door, rapid knocking, and as if remembering who it was that was coming over she saw her father smack his hand against his forehead in a very not elegant manner. It was rare of him to do this, to forget things such as people coming over and visiting them. Especially since not everyone was invited over to their cottage, it was part of the reason why they had moved to another country after all, to get away from the toxicity that was England.

"Ah, I forgot she was coming over. She insisted on bringing Nymphadora with her so they could celebrate your birthday."

"She likes to go by the name Tonks, mon amour," Papa remarked, as he went over to where the front door was before it opened.

In front of them was their cousin Andromeda and her daughter, Nymphadora Tonks. Just like Papa had said, the teenager preferred to be called by her last name instead of the long and obnoxious name she had been given.

Andromeda had long chocolate hair that was almost the color of black and it was a mane on her head. The hair was pulled back in a low bun and her features were very striking yet nothing sour like her eldest sister, Bellatrix. If they were the same age instead of being three years apart in age they would have looked like twins. Andromeda wasn't sour and hated the world like Bellatrix though, and her eyes weren't as dark as her sister's. Her eyes were warm like hot chocolate, Bellatrix's eyes were as dark as the soil that covered a casket.

Tonks was a Metamorphmagus, which meant she was a witch who could change her appearance on command. It was a very rare ability that hadn't been in the family for over a century. She liked to change her hair color whenever she wanted to, since there was no point in dyeing her hair. Sometimes she made herself look more like an older sister to Adrianna than looking more like her mum. She was a mischievous young woman and happened to be in Hufflepuff.

"You won't believe what our prongslet just said!"

Papa cried, distress apparent upon his voice and his features while his cousin rolled her eyes and entered the small cottage with her daughter behind her. She was the Secret Keeper of the cottage, being the one who was able to know the location of their house and making sure no one else would find out the location.

Andromeda went over to where Father was and kissed him on the cheek before hugging him and pulling away. She turned away from him and went around the kitchen island to snuggle against her second cousin before turning and looking at her first cousins with intrigue.

"What? Did she say she would rather live with me and Ted?"

"She said that she wanted to be Sorted into Hufflepuff!"

"What's wrong with Hufflepuff?"

Tonks peered at her second cousin with a challenging look in her eye, slowly morphing her features to make them more snooty. Father rolled his eyes at her light playfulness before smacking his brother/husband against his chest.

"Nothing is wrong with Hufflpuff, Tonks. He's just upset because he ordered her wardrobe for the school year already in his House colors. I think he forgets that since he was the first Gryffindor in our family, that Adrianna would be the first heiress of Black that would end up in Hufflepuff," Father informed her, making Tonks pinch her lips together before relenting and agreeing with him. She was upset she wasn't able to be at Hogwarts with Adrianna since she had just graduated from Hogwarts.

Andromeda snorted and rolled her eyes at what she had heard.

"I would ask if you were kidding or exaggerating, but we both know how Sirius is. At least we can just easily change the colors with the flick of a wand, though I won't be surprised if he makes sure that some of the clothes end up staying the same colors," she remarked, which in return made Papa blush some as if he knew he was being called out for doing something childish.

"I don't mind. Papa always said that Gryffindor Red always looked good on me. Something about my complexion," Adrianna responded, knowing that she always had to defend her papa and his decisions. She knew he sometimes said dumb things or did things too prematurely because he thought things would go his way but she loved him and would defend him.

As if she remembered why she had come over, Andromeda smacked her hand against her forehead before reaching into her satchel and pulled out a small decorated present for her. "I totally forgot to give this to you earlier, sweetheart. Here you go. You only turn 11 once."

Eagerly rushing over, Adrianna went to grab the present only for her fathers to clear their throats, allowing her to know she needed to thank her cousin for her gift. "Thank you for getting me a birthday present, Cousin Andy."

"Oh don't mention it, just open it up and tell me how much you love it and then we'll be even," Andromeda playfully mandated, her dark eyes twinkling with mirth. She always seemed calm and collected, happy and her true self when she would arrive at the Black Cottage not too far from Honfleur, Normandy.

Adrianna went over to sit on the loveseat that faced the fireplace, which was lit and had logs crackling from the heat.

Tonks was sitting on the ottoman and playing with Pumpkin, Pumpkin was preening at the attention she was getting.

She knew that her human mamma adored her. She didn't know how to feel about her human's own parents since she could sense something odd about the one with lots of hair and the other one insisted on Adrianna to clean her cage. He never touched her cage unless he had to, or even her, but it didn't matter.

Opening the box carefully in order to not accidentally cut her fingers from her excitement, Adrianna gasped as she pulled out a jewelry box that held some of the most beautiful antique pieces of jewelry that had been passed down through the family.

Brooches that were made out of the rarest jewels, earrings that would change color depending on the wearer's mood. There was a small charm bracelet that had a small wooden dog charm, along with a charm of a white wooden doe and stag leaning their heads against each other. There were emerald stones along with Gryffindor Red and cheerful yellow. There was a small Potter Crest charm along with a small Black Crest charm.

"Oh, I love it, Cousin Andy! It's so pretty! Did you make it?"

"All of us chipped in. The dog charm was actually whittled by your papa and the Black Crest was given by your father. The doe and stag charm actually belonged to your parents, they were planning on making a small bracelet for you eventually with it on it," Andromeda explained, earning a nod from her second cousin as she reacted seriously.

"Can you put it on my wrist, please?"

As the bracelet was placed upon her right wrist and magically fixed itself to adjust to its new owner, Adrianna's heart swelled. She couldn't wait until she would end up at Hogwarts and see what it was like for both sets of her parents. She just hoped everyone would accept her.
