"Guardian?" The male voice spoke softly. Izuku didn't know what was going on. Who was he again where was he? "Guardian?" The voice repeated. Izuku opened his eyes and stared up at the humming bright lights above him before looking for the source of the voice. His eyes landed on a strange machine.
"It worked! You're alive!" The machine floated in front of him and spoke in a voice full of happiness. Izuku's head hurt, he could remember anything, who was he? He looked at the machine confused by its words. "What do you mean it worked?" Izuku was so confused Who am I. "And where am I? Who are you?"
"I'm a Ghost! Well, I'm your Ghost." The Ghost spoke still seemly excited. "And we are currently in the Musutafu Morgue." Izuku looked around the white room he was in and saw multiple tables like the cold metal one he was laid on all around him. The Ghost followed his glazes before adding. "There is no one else in here don't worry!" Izuku didn't know how to feel about that, but he didn't know anyone did he?
Izuku sat up on the table he was laid flinching at the feeling of the cold metal on his skin. He felt his face up before stepping off the table and standing. His clothes were covered in blood and his shirt had a massive hole in its side. Ghost watched closely as Izuku looked himself over. "Wait why am I here, who am I?" He turned to the Ghost not remembering who he was or why he was there.
Ghost looked down thinking about a good way to put it before deciding the facts were best. "You died… about two days some sort of villain accident." Izuku eyes widened. "But how am I here then." Izuku flexed his wrist confused if this was real. "I revived you of course!" Ghost said as if bringing someone back from the dead was no big deal.
"But how can you just bring someone back from the dead. That shouldn't be possible." Izuku tried to think if he knew of anything like that, but he couldn't remember anything no matter how hard he tried. He only could remember his name. Izuku was broken from his thoughts as The Ghost, his Ghost, spoke.
"I think we need to get you to the Speaker and Tower. The people there can help you understand this better?" Izuku eyes filled with hope as he heard that. "Do they have Ghosts too?" "No sorry I'm the only one of my kind." His Ghost answered him a bit somberly.
Izuku tried to think to remember anything. My stomach? He grabbed at the spot where a hole was in his shirt. Pain, fire, blood. Izuku grabbed his head. What the hell is going on, why can't he remember who he is? Ghost floated in front of him noticing how Izuku grabbed his head and his breathing sped up. "Hey hey hey it's ok everything will make more sense soon!"
Izuku looked into the blue eye of the Ghost and slowed his breathing trying to calm down. "You said something about a Tower?" Izuku asked his Ghost "Yeah it's near where the Traveler has settled." Izuku face was puzzled but he decided it was best to leave the answers till later.
"Come on we have to go before the sun rises!" Ghost floated to a door in the corner of the room leading to a similarly sparsely decorated hallway with bright humming lights. Izuku looked around as he walked and saw long black bags which held what he could only assume were bodies, and empty offices.
They soon made their way into a long room with couches and seats lining the walls and a set of double doors leading into the early morning. "Where is everyone?" Izuku asked not sure why everything was so empty. Places like this had people in them, right? "Well, it is 3:00 a.m. right now no one is really working at this time." His Ghost said as Izuku opened the door for them both as they entered the crisp night air.
Izuku took a deep breath of fresh air and look around at all the flashing billboards with drinks, foods, and some muscular man with a massive smile. He looks familiar. Izuku shuttered feeling the cold air on his skin forgetting his clothes were littered with holes.
"Alright don't be alarmed just hold still." Ghost spoke to him calmly before floating towards him and disappearing in a blue flash of light.
"Where did you go?" Izuku looked around in fear not wanting to lose the only thing he knew. "I'm still here." His Ghost voice sounded as if it was in his mind. "How are you doing that?" Izuku asked out loud in amazement. "We are connected through the light of course!" Ghost spoke with much excitement.
"The light?" Izuku asked wondering what light he was talking about maybe the advertisements above? "The Light is the power given off by me and the Traveler, and I suspect you now. It's how I revived you!" Ghost added, seeming to enjoy explaining his power.
This was great he began to mutter about how cool the power like that could be. He didn't know why but he felt himself wishing he had a notebook right now and a pen so he could write this down. Wait, did he say I had this power? Izuku looked at his hands in amazement wondering what he too was able to do.
Before Izuku could push the conversation, Ghost spoke once more. "We really should get moving I'll contact the Tower once we reach the outer layer of the city." Izuku nodded before taking a step forward and realizing he had no idea where to go. "Um I don't know how to get out of here." Izuku spoke a little embarrassed at his lack of knowledge. "It's ok I'll lead you from here." Ghost spoke kindly.
Izuku talked with Ghost as they made there way through the city Ghost answering questions about the world. At least as best he could. "So, these heroes have powers that they used to save people in need?" Izuku asked as the sun slowly began to rise on the horizon consuming the darkness of night in its orange glow.
"Yes, that's right! They are keepers of peace as far as I know." Ghost answered now floating along side Izuku as it made Izuku more comfortable. "Are these powers like the Light?" Izuku asked wondering if their powers were like the powers Ghost had.
"Nope they are born with their as a part of their biology. The Light is far different and far more complex." Ghost answered Izuku as they made their way down a street in a neighborhood near the city's outskirts. "I need a notebook for all this." Izuku sighed wondering where this wants to write and analyze powers come from.
"Wait you said I would be able to use the power of the Light too, right?" Izuku asked remembering how Ghost had said that. "Yes of course we are both connected in the Travelers light! I see no reason why you couldn't use it. But I do wonder in what way would it manifest in you?" Izuku was excited to hear this, wishing more and more for that notebook to write all this.
"Do you have a name Ghost?" Izuku asked wondering why it never crossed his mind. "Well, no. But you could give me one, you are my Guardian after all!" Ghost answered making a beeping sound they Izuku assumed meant he was happy. "How about Apollo?" Izuku asked.
"Apollo?" Ghost asked in surprise before beeping and answering, "I like it!" Izuku smiled at the happiness in Ghost, well now Apollo's voice. They continued their walk talking about the world around them as the world began to awake. "Um Apollo I think people are starting to wake up." Izuku said nervously looking around as cars started to fill the roads as people made their way to work and school.
"Oh well we are short on time then hold on while I try to contact the Tower." Apollo floated upwards before expanding his shell out as he tried to gain a signal. Izuku shuffled his feet in anxiety as he looked around. "Yes, hello this is Ghost. Send coordinates now bring us home." Apollo floated back down to Izuku and beeped. "We need to find an open area there is an empty parking lot over there."
Izuku sped up realizing how it must look seeing a teen covered in blood in the early morning all alone. His walk turned into a jog then a run. As they reached the empty parking lot Izuku looked around wondering how this would help the people at the Tower find him. "So, what exactly are we waiting on?" Izuku asked Apollo as seconds ticked by. "That..." Ghost answered as a Jumpship appeared on the horizon.
"I'm are here Ghost. Get read for transmat." A female voice spoke to Apollo through a radio he seemed to have built into him. "Make sure not to forget my Guardian Amanda!" Ghost spoke a bit of worry in his voice as the orange space vestal approached from the sky. "Yes, I see him on my sensers don't worry I got it."
The Arcadia-class Jumpship flew smoothly through the sky fast approaching Izuku and Apollo. It flew it's self lower before coming to a stop.
Izuku watched in amazement as the ship started blowing dust all around him hovering over the parking lot. "Transmatting you both in!" The voice said as Izuku eyes were filled with a blue light before he felt a seat below him and saw what had to be a room aboard the ship if the rumbling of a powerful engine was anything to go off.
Apollo then appeared next to him in a flash of blue light. "We are aboard Amanda you are good to go!" Apollo spoke quickly wishing not to get the attention of the public from their ship. "Yes sir!" Amanda spoke as Izuku felt the ship launch forward as they started the final stretch of the journey to the Tower.
Izuku looked around in amazement at the ship's interior. It was a small room he was in, barely big enough for the small table welded to the floor inside it. Izuku jumped at the sound of a hatch opening as a young women crawled through. Apollo gave Izuku what he assumed was a reassuring look before moving to the woman. She had blonde short hair a red bandana around her neck and a pair of mechanics overalls on.
"Hi Amanda!" Apollo spoke a bit nervously but still excited to see her again. "Howdy Ghost!" She spoke in a Southern American accent as he pulled herself into the room and sat across from Izuku. "So, you're the Ghost's Guardian huh?" She spoke looking Izuku up and down. "Um, yes, I guess so. My name is Izuku. He held out a hand and Amanda took it eagerly. "My names Amanda Holliday!" She spoke happily I'm the shipwright over at the Tower!" Izuku looked at her in amazement. "So, you get to work with spacecraft and starships like this one!" Izuku asked amazed wishing for the notebook once more. "That I do kid! I got to say when Ghost told me he was looking for a Guardian I didn't expect a teen." Amanda spoke looking over at Apollo who beeped a little nervously. "Well, no matter I'm sure whatever the Traveler has planed for you and Ghost will make sense soon." Amanda sighed.
"Yes of course" Apollo spoke defensively. "And thanks for your help, Amanda." "Anytime Ghost!" Amanda said smiling at Apollo. Izuku and Amanda sat listening to the rumble of the Jumpship as it flew to the tower. Izuku shuffled a little uncomfortably noticing the questioning glazes from Amanda. "So where did Ghost find you?" Amanda broke the silence. "I can't imagine it was easy to explain to your parents about all of this." "Well…" "I don't know who my parents were…" Amanda looked at Izuku with a mixture of sadness and confusion. "An orphan?" Amanda asked.
"Umm no, actually Apollo revived me..." Izuku said looking down understanding it sounded crazy. "Wait revived? And who is Apollo." Amanda asked confused. "Ghost, I mean. He told me I died two days ago, and he used the Light to revive me." Izuku said a bit apprehensible. "It's true." Apollo added to Amanda's look of confusion. "I wasn't supposed to let people know but the Speaker knew it could be hard to hide. But please don't tell anyone Amanda!" Apollo asked with a hint of fear in his voice. It was true Amanda was nice, but Apollo had only known for so long.
"Don't worry Ghost. Uh I mean Apollo. I won't spill." She looked between Apollo and Izuku and sighed. "I really hope this starts to make sense soon." Izuku let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and slummed back in his seat. Apollo floated over to him and looked him over before turning back to Amanda. "Thank you, Amanda, once again." "Don't mention it." Amanda said, smiling.
Three beeps from the cockpit soon pulled all the attention in the room. "We are here!" Amanda said happily. "Can't wait for you to meet everyone." Apollo spoke excitedly to Izuku. Izuku was nervous to meet all the people at the tower having only heard small bits about the Speaker and now meeting Amanda. But Amanda was nice so surly it can't be that bad. "Jumpship 2374 this is Tower airspace control. You are clear to dock at hanger Alpha welcome back."
"Perfect!" Amanda crawled back into the cockpit and Izuku felt the ship slow as they prepared to dock. Izuku looked through the window in the Jumpship to see a large city surrounded by massive walls, a Tower leading off the walls seemly the Tower was growing larger as they approached. But the real sight was the Traveler. A massive white sphere floated over the city and Tower. The feeling Izuku got from it was interesting almost what he fells from Apollo but stronger.
Izuku tried to slow his breathing as he thought about all the new people he was about to meet. His first day alive and he was already meeting a whole tower of people. "I'm going to transmat you two to the courtyard I believe Ikora is waiting to greet you two." Amanda spoke from the cockpit as Izuku felt the ship slow to a crawl. "You got this. You got this." Izuku muttered under his breathe "You ok?" Apollo asked floating up to him. "Yup… Just nervous is all." Izuku said a bit embarrassed. "It's ok Ikora is great! Very smart and a part of the Tower's Vanguard." Amanda's voice sounded from the cockpit "Transmat firing!"
Izuku opened his eyes to see that he was now in the large courtyard on the top of the Tower. He breathed in the fresh air and turned to see the view of the Traveler floating above and the city below. "This place is beautiful." Izuku exclaimed. "It isn't it." Izuku turned to see an older woman wearing what looked like a purple rope. Her head was shaved, and he felt like her brown eyes saw right into his soul. "I'm Ikora Rey it is great to meet you." She held out a gloved hand and smiled. "Welcome to the Tower."
