Posting two chapters tonight, this one is about 7 and Ace as they fight.
Chapter Text
The Doctor and Ace rush into the TARDIS as an explosion is set off behind them. "Great job Ace."
"So it's ok to blow things up when you want to? Not when I want to. Only Daleks have been harmed by them."
"No Ace, it's not."
"Then why do you seem to be ok with using my Nitro when it suits you!"
"I will tell you when you are older."
"So another one of your secrets huh, Professor."
"Ace."
"No, just leave me be for awhile," she runs off. The Doctor watches as the TARDIS changes the walls to protect Ace from more arguing, or is it to protect him from the wrath of an angry teen.
'You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
But I never thought I'd live to see it break
It's getting dark and it's all too quiet
And I can't trust anything now
And it's coming over you like it's all a big mistake'
A month later the Doctor goes to pick up Ace from a vacation away from him. "Hello Professor," she says with a smile. "Where have you been?"
"I went to see an old friend of mine. Ace, I am sorry for everything."
"It seems to me that we have been needing to apologize to each other more often ever since Fenric happened." His eyes go wide.
"Ace you understand I didn't want to hurt you; it was the only way I could save you."
"I know that Professor. I still have more warmth for you than I have had for my Mum since I was a kid."
'Oh, holding my breath
Won't lose you again
Something's made your eyes go cold'
The Doctor watches as the strong balsley Ace backs down as his hand rises, he lowers it. "I wasn't going to hit you Ace. I will never do that. Please tell me no one ever."
"It was a few of my mum's boyfriends."
"Ace," he moves closer and wraps her in his arms. "I don't like hurting anyone, especially you."
"I should know that, I really should. One of the people we saw back there reminded me of one of the worst ones. I had to hide for weeks from him. Then one day I got called into the Head Master's office."
"She was in the hospital wasn't she?"
"She did. They never found him." Ace can feel the comfort in the Doctor's arms as the TARDIS hums beneath their feet. Ace knows it is probably to let her know she is safe.
'Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong
You're all I wanted
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted'
"I can't believe you, Doctor," Ace yells at him as they walk through the rain.
"Ace, come here."
"No, I don't want to be near you right now."
"Then here," he hands over his umbrella and coat, "your jacket is soaked through, I don't want you to get sick."
"Like you care." She huffs as she puts on the jacket feeling warmth that she doesn't want to feel.
"I care Ace, I will always care. Not matter what is said or done. You will always have a place in my hearts. Everyone does."
She scoffs at that, "I don't believe that. You haven't mentioned anyone." The Doctor walks off thinking of everyone he has ever met.
'Stood there and watched you walk away
From everything we had
But I still mean every word I said to you
He will try to take away my pain
And he just might make me smile
But the whole time, I'm wishing he was you instead'
The Doctor hasn't forgotten what Ace had said to him a few weeks ago, each night when she goes to bed he tries to find everyone he has known. He went to Ian and Barbra's wedding.
"What's this?"
"It's pictures of the wedding of two of the first people that traveled with me. Ian and Barbra. I had a rocky start with them; especially Ian. I kept calling him by the wrong name on purpose."
"Why?"
"It was fun to rile him up. If I could find a picture of Susan I would show you. She was my granddaughter."
"You have a granddaughter?"
"I do, we left Gallifrey and went to London."
"So that is when it all started."
"It was."
'Oh, holding my breath
Won't see you again
Something keeps me holding onto nothing'
The Doctor runs through the TARDIS looking for the now 20 year old Ace. "Are you ok?" He finds her in the library with a large cast on both her arm and leg
"How can I be?"
"I didn't know that would happen. I thought we saw the last of him in Perivale."
"Well he almost killed me. That is the closest I have been to death since I met you. Not even with Fernic was I that close."
"Ace."
She holds up a hand, "I don't want to hear it. I just want to sit here reading my book."
"I'll go get you some more tea, do you want something to eat?"
"I'm fine." The Doctor slowly walks off.
'Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong
You're all I wanted
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted'
"ACE!" He yells as the young woman falls to the ground again, this time in emotional pain.
"Leave me alone," she tries to shrug him off.
"I can't, who was that?"
"Angelina, we just met, but I liked her. It seems everyone I care about dies." She tries to hold back the tears.
"Not everyone, I can promise not everyone you see will die."
"How can you promise me that?" He is glad that Ace doesn't remember running into her future self that was in a private conversation with an older gentleman in the year 2023.
"Because Ace, I know you. I know you will meet someone once you are done with me. I hate to see that day happen, but it will."
"I have been thinking about it."
"I know. We have been arguing more and more."
'I know, I know
I just know
You're not gone
You can't be gone, no'
Ace watches as his eyes grow darker than she has ever seen. "Doctor?"
"What did you just say?"
"I."
"You said I was being as bad as Daleks?"
"Well you were."
"How can you say that. I don't want to do mass genocide. I would rather save everyone."
"Today didn't seem like that?"
"If you really think that, maybe I should take you home. Back to your mother."
"Doctor?"
"What happened to Professor. I loved it."
"You just wanted me to kill millions of aliens. I cannot do your dirty work. I want to help people."
"We can't always help them, you know that."
"Then take me home, to where I can least try. You told me that you set up a fund for me, I might as well put it to use helping others." The Doctor turns to the TARDIS and starts to fly her.
'Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
Never ever thought I'd see it break
Never thought I'd see it'
As she stormed off the TARDIS, Ace thought she would never see the TARDIS or the Doctor again. A little over 30 years later she would apologize for what she said to the Doctor when she saw the Time Lord again.
