"Akala, Akala, Akala, Akala, Akala, Akala….Akala Island." said Ash and Jordan.
"Ash, Jordan, calm down!" said Rotom. "I know you're both excited about today's field trip, but relax."
"We can't help it, Rotom." said Jordan as they slide to a stop on the school yard. "Going to Akala Island is going to be fun!"
"Rotom?" asked Ash. "What Pokémon live on Akala Island? We can't wait to see!"
"Hold on, I'll do a search." said Rotom. Suddenly, a Tauros bulldozed Ash down and knocks him into the sky. "Why us?" Jordan asked, watching him go.
"Lucario." said Meeko.
"Better him than you, me and Pikachu." said Jordan.
"Mooing!" said Tauros as Charizard stops it.
"Tauros, chill out." said its trainer.
"Keep holding on, Charizard." said Kiawe, running up to both Pokémon.
"Char." Charizard replied.
"That really hurt." said Ash.
"And don't forget painful." added Jordan, checking her brother as she helps him up.
"Are you all right, Ash?" asked Lillie.
"Guess you could say that." said Ash as a frightened Tauros tried continuing on its rampage on the school yard. "What's going on over there?"
"Charizard startled Tauros when it landed." explained Sophocles.
"And Tauros got really angry." added Lana. Just then, Charizard hears something and looks up as another Pokémon got in-between it and Tauros.
"Argh!" said Ash as a Midday form Lycanroc growled between Charizard and Tauros.
"It's a Lycanroc." said Ash.
"And it's in Midday form!" said Rotom. Tauros bellowed as it stomps its foot at Lycanroc, telling it to get out of the way.
"Alola!" said a dark-skinned woman, walking onto the school yard with her arms opened wide.
"Steenee?" asked Steenee as the others gasped.
"Now, stop being so angry." she said to Tauros. "There, there. Good." She kisses Tauros on its nose and it immediately calmed down.
"Huh?" the kids gasped.
"Yeah. That's it." said the woman, as Tauros bellowed happily. "Good Tauros."
"Amazing." said Ash.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"She's good." said Jordan.
"Cario." said Meeko.
"So cool!" said Mallow.
"Who is she?" asked Sophocles.
"I sure don't remember her from school at all." said Lana.
Narrator: An angry Tauros has been calmed down by a mysterious woman, aided by a Lycanroc. But who is she?
Jordan: Yeah!
Meeko: Lucar!
"You did a great job back there with Tauros." said the woman, walking up to Charizard and places a hand on its face. "You're something else."
"Olivia!" said Kiawe as she kissed his Pokémon.
"Alola, Kiawe." said Olivia, chuckling as she hugs him. "Wow, you're out of my sight for five seconds and look how much you've grown! Such a handsome boy!"
"You know her, Kiawe?" asked Ash.
"I do." Kiawe replied. "This is Olivia, the kahuna of Akala Island!"
"She's so pretty!" added Jordan.
"Why thank you." said Olivia, pinching Jordan's cheeks causing her to giggle. "You are so cute."
"The island kahuna?" gasped Ash.
"All right, class." said Kukui as everyone gathered into the class room. "Today, we're all going to visit Akala Island for a lovely class field trip."
"That's awesome!" exclaimed Ash. "The grand trial!"
"Aren't you getting ahead of yourself?" Kukui asked him.
"Well, maybe." said Ash as he falls to the side. "Wah!"
"You know very well we've got to do our small trial first before having the grand trial." said Jordan, pushing her brother out of his seat.
"Oh, Ash. Jordan." said Mallow.
"There they go." said Sophocles as everyone laughed at the siblings.
"Alola, class! I'm Olivia, the kahuna of Akala island!" said Olivia, introducing herself. "I'll be in charge of your field trip. It's so nice to meet you! First, as a way of saying hello…"
Before Olivia could hand out her gifts, she accidentally trips and falls to the floor, making everyone gasp. "(laughs) Nothing to see, nothing to see." she said, brushing it off then takes out a red bag. "Here you go." Inside the bag was jewelry.
"Olivia, they're amazing." said Kiawe, holding a red bracelet.
"Beautiful." said Lillie.
"Gorgeous." said Mallow.
"It's lovely, like staring into the ocean." said Lana.
"Wonder what stones this is made of." wonder Sophocles.
"Hm. What do you think, you two?" Ash asked Pikachu and Meeko as he and Jordan received what looked like to be keychains.
"Pi. (sniffs) Pikachu." said Pikachu.
"I guess getting something like that may not be that exciting for everyone." said Olivia, seeing the look on Ash's face.
"No, that's not true at all, Olivia." said Ash, nodding his head over to his sister.
"Lucario." said Meeko, inspecting the keychain.
"It's stunning." said Jordan, placing hers on her backpack. "I'm honored to have anything this magnificent on my backpack."
"And coming from her, my own little sister, that's saying something." said Ash as Olivia beamed at his sister.
"Really? Well, the thing is you see." said Olivia, then shows both siblings her Z-Ring. "Look here, I manage an arts and crafts shop."
"A Z-Ring!" said Ash and Jordan.
"Which happens to contain a Z-Crystal, Rockium Z." said Olivia.
"Rockium Z? So cool!" said Ash and Jordan.
"Are you both taking on the island challenge?" Olivia asked.
"Oh yeah! As a team." said Ash. "We want to have another grand trial!"
"Really?" said Olivia, not surprised at all. "This field trip might lead to your wish."
"Now I'm getting really fired up." said Ash.
"I might as well bring my water gun." said Jordan. "Who knows when we'll have to cool my brother down."
"Cario." said Meeko.
"Pi. Pika. Pika?" said Pikachu, then looks up at Olivia.
"Now! Grab your stuff and bring your Pokémon." said Olivia. "Akala island, lets…..uh!"
"Going. Going. Dewgong." said Principal Oak as Olivia walked into him.
"You know…..I actually like that pun." said Jordan, then looks over at the others. "That was a really good pun."
"Lucario." said Meeko, smiling at the pun.
"Well, Alola, Principal Oak." said Olivia. "How are you?"
"Never felt better and you've earned this great time to get to meet the students' Pokémon square and Ferrothorn!" said Principal Oak.
"What are you talking about, Principal Oak?" Olivia asked, then starts to laugh at the pun. "Oh, I get it."
"Huh?" said the students.
"And now I miss the poems." said Jordan as Meeko hung her head.
"Lucario." sighed Meeko.
"Oh, my!" said Olivia, seeing the Pokémon gathered around her. "Wow. This is amazing. Their facial expressions. They're all really loved, aren't they?"
"Steenee." said Steenee as the Pokémon all agreed.
"Wow. You're adorable." Olivia said to Popplio and the smaller Pokémon piled on top of her. "Rowlet, you smell like a ray of sunshine!"
"Yeah, right? You know what?" Ash asked. "I like to smell them, too!"
"And yet, you tell me I'm weird, Ash." said Jordan.
"How strange." said Rotom. "None of them has their guard up with her!"
"You're right." Lillie said in agreement with Rotom. "They all look so happy!"
"It's almost like Olivia's a Pokémon too." said Lana.
"Whoa." gasped Ash as he sees Litten walk up to Olivia. "Litten."
"(Meows)" Litten cautiously said to the Kahuna.
"Come here." she said after setting down Steenee.
"Uh, better watch out." Ash warned Olivia. "If Litten doesn't know you…"
"Don't worry, Ash. Come here." said Olivia and Litten walks up, still having a scowl on its face until Olivia rubs behind its ears.
"(Meows)"
"Hm." said Olivia, picking up Litten and kissed it on the nose. "Hey. Let's be friends."
"(Meows)" Litten meowed in agreement.
"Look at that. Its love!" said Mallow.
"Just like an Island Kahuna! Right?" asked Sophocles.
"Well. Among Island Kahunas, Olivia's really one of a kind." explained Kiawe, then looked at his Z-Ring. "She completely surprised me during my grand trial. I never seen Turtonator let its guard down around someone it didn't know until then. Like Jordan, Olivia truly has something special that will open up a Pokémon's heart every time!"
"What do I have that's special?" asked Jordan, confused.
"I'll tell you later." said Ash, bringing her in for a hug. Rockruff walks up to Lycanroc, touching its paw and gaining Ash's attention. "You want to be really cool like Lycanroc, I can tell." said Ash.
"I think that Rockruff likes the midday form." said Jordan, causing her brother to smile.
"Ruff!" barked Rockruff.
"Lucar." said Meeko.
"Aren't you glad you made a cute little new friend, Lycanroc?" asked Olivia.
"Roc." said Lycanroc.
"Mm." hummed Olivia as she picks up a whimpering Rockruff. "You really are cute. (Laughs) Please, tell me more about them! I want to get to know all of them better!"
"Then I'll tell you about Rockruff." said Ash.
"And I'll tell you about Leilani, my Pikipek." said Jordan.
"Komala." yawned Komala, rocking back and forth in the bell tower before falling towards the school yard, landing in a bush.
"You went through a lot before you met Ash and Jordan, didn't you?" Olivia asked, sobbing as she heard Litten's story. "Litten, I'm so glad you three are together."
"Yeah…." said Jordan as Ash chuckles.
"Olivia, use this." said Lillie, handing her a handkerchief.
"Oh, my. Thank you." she said, sobbing softly as she wipes her tears and blows her nose.
"Oh!"
"Interesting." said Lana. "Laughing, crying, blowing her nose."
"Your Pokémon are lucky to have such great partners, every single one of you!" said Olivia, standing back up. "Please, never forget these wonderful stories and the emotions that go with them. They're treasures that will last a lifetime!" Snowy squeals happily at Lillie's side.
"You look a lot stronger than at the grand trial." Olivia said to Turtonator. "I think you're starting to look like Kiawe! You both look wonderful! (Laughs) Stop! Turtonator, that tickles!"
"Us alike?" asked Kiawe.
"All right. In return for telling me about your Pokémon…." said Olivia. "I'll tell you about Akala Island!"
"I've got to record this." said Rotom.
"Akala Island has been nurtured by Wela Volcano's powerful fire." Olivia explained. "It commands humanity's fear and gratitude. So, do you all know the Pokémon who's known as Akala's island guardian?"
"Tapu Lele!" said Ash and Jordan.
"Pika?" asked Pikachu.
"Lucario." said Meeko.
"Wow. That's right! Very good." said Olivia. "Tapu Lele, Akala's island guardian, is known to scatter its glowing scales from time to time. It is said that whoever the scales touch will instantly be healed."
"Oh yeah. So that's why." said Ash as Jordan looks down at her arms.
[Flashback]
Tapu Lele flies over Ash and Jordan, letting its scales fall down towards them, healing their injuries.
[Flashback ends]
"You know what I think?" Olivia asked. "I think Tapu Lele is the guardian of life itself. Its light heals wounds and gives strength to those who needs it."
"Do you think we'll meet again?" Ash asked.
"Of course! Just as long as that's what you and Jordan want. It would make me so happy if you felt Tapu Lele's presence here. And if, on our field trip, you thought about what life truly means and the relationship between people and Pokémon." said Olivia. "I want you to feel that special something that's created only between you and your partner through your encounters. I know that's a lot to think about, though. (chuckles) Right then, story time's over! Get ready. Grab your things and bring your Pokémon. Next, Akala Island, let's go!"
Once at the dock, the kids gasped as Olivia brings them to a boat. "Now, all aboard, everyone." said Olivia as Principal Oak stood aways from them. Soon as she takes the first step on the boat…SMACK….down goes Olivia.
"Like I said before." said Olivia, embarrassed about her fall. "Nothing to see, nothing to see."
"Pika." said Pikachu, then tilts his head.
"I didn't see anything." said Jordan, pretending that she see Olivia fall. "I didn't see anything at all."
"I didn't see Olivia fall." said Meeko.
"Interesting, serious explanations and then belly laughs after she trips." said Lana as Olivia laughs it off again.
"She's so cool!" said Mallow.
"Seriously?" asked Sophocles.
"See you later!" Ash and Jordan called out to Principal Oak.
"Now, have a mystical Magikarp kind of time!" said Principal Oak.
"Karp. Karp." said Magikarp.
"Whoa, the air smells great." said Ash.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"It feels great." said Jordan, feeling the breeze.
"Cario." said Meeko.
"Nice break from flying, don't you think?" Kiawe asked Charizard.
"Char." Charizard replied, liking the break.
"Wow, look at Kiawe." said Sophocles, pulling up Kiawe's farm on his phone.
"Huh?" said Ash, Mallow and Jordan.
"You're right. What's this about?" asked Ash.
"It's the Akala Island guidebook. Kiawe's house is featured." said Sophocles.
"Whats with your face? Were you nervous?" asked Mallow.
"So? What if I was?" asked Kiawe.
"You just look uncomfortable in the picture to me, Kiawe." said Jordan.
"Look how relaxed they are." said Lillie, giggling.
"Yeah. I can't wait to see what kind of Water types there are on the island." said Lana.
"Can't wait to try the food!" said Mallow. "I'm sure they have lots of unusual ingredients!"
"Hey, something jumped." said Lana, looking out towards the ocean.
"Huh?"
"Pop?"
"Where, where? I want to see!" said Ash.
"Hey, I don't see anything." said Sophocles, looking through his binoculars.
"I don't see anything either." said Rotom.
"I think they found something." said Olivia.
"All right. We'll make a slight detour." said Kukui, then steers the boat to the left. "Turning port side!"
"Huh?" said Ash and Sophocles.
"Hey kids, would you like to investigate?" asked Olivia.
"Uh, of course! Let's go and check it out!" said Ash. Suddenly a Dragonair jumps out of the water as they start to pass by. "Look at that!" said Ash and soon enough, more Dragonair jumps out of the water.
"Those are Dragonair." said Rotom.
"Wow!" said Ash as one Dragonair squealed as storm clouds appeared in the sky.
"Huh?" said the kids as it starts raining.
"That's amazing." said Lillie.
"Oh, wow." said Mallow.
"Did the Dragonair do all this?" asked Sophocles.
"Your field trip learning's just begun." said Olivia, at the wheel. "Let's get to know some Pokémon from the sea."
"Sharpedo." said Jordan as she, Ash and Sophocles see their fins before they all went over a school of Tentacruel.
"Slowpoke." said Slowpoke with a Shellder on its tail as it evolves. "Slowbro."
Wingull squawked overhead as a flock flew over the boat. "Finneon. Tentacool." said Lana, naming the water Pokémon. "Lumineon. Luvdisc. Corsola. Shellder! Look! Lugia!"
"Huh?"
"Wait? Where's Lugia? Show me!" said Ash.
"Wait. They actually believe you?" Mallow asked Lana. "Of course, Lugia's not here."
"Ash Ketchum, you know very well that Lugia isn't in this region." said Jordan, placing her hands on her hips as all three boys sighed.
"Pop. Pop." said Popplio.
"Water types. You're an expert." Olivia said to Lana, seeing how quickly she recognized different water type Pokémon.
"Huh?" said Lana, looking up at Olivia, then smiled. "I love them."
"Wonder if there's anyone else." said Olivia, looking over the railing before tipping over and falling into the water. "Oh! Oh!"
"Oh, no!" said Lana.
"Olivia!" shouted Ash as Jordan gives a confused look.
"(Gasp) The water's fine." said Olivia, coming up to the surface as the kids gasp. "Come on in, everybody! It's beautiful!"
"Pikachu? Jordan? Meeko? Want to go?" Ash asked.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"Cario!" said Meeko.
"I'll race you, Ash!" said Jordan. Both siblings and their Pokémon jumped into the water and started swimming after Olivia. As they swam towards a rock, they started to see some bubbles in the water and head back towards the surface. "Pika. Riolu." said Pikachu, Lyra and Meeko.
"What's that, Olivia?" asked Ash and Jordan.
"Let's find out." she said and they swam towards the rock. Back on the boat, Rockruff starts barking in the direction of Ash and Jordan.
"Hm?" said Kukui, then sees Olivia and the Ketchum siblings head in a different direction then the boat.
"I wonder what's up with Ash, Jordan and Olivia." said Kiawe.
"I don't know. Let's check!" said Kukui. Once they had reached the rock formation, Olivia, Ash and Jordan see a Wailmer, struggling against the rock. "It's a Wailmer." said Ash and Jordan.
"And it's trapped in the rocks." said Olivia.
"Hey Ash, Jordan?" Rotom asked, flying over to them. "Is something wrong?"
"Yes, there is." said Jordan, pointing to the situation.
"A Wailmer's stuck in the rocks." said Ash.
"Stuck? That's terrible!" said Rotom. "I'll alert everybody now!"
"Okay." said Ash.
"Hurry Rotom! Please!" Jordan called out after him.
"Quick, Ash! Let's get it out of here." said Olivia as she went to one side of Wailmer while Ash went to the other side. "I'll pull on Wailmer while you push."
"Gotcha." said Ash as pushes on Wailmer while Olivia pulled on its fin.
"Something doesn't feel right." said Jordan as she and Meeko swam a little closer. "Ash, I don't like what I'm feeling." Ash turns to face his sister and sees the look on her face.
"Ah!" screamed Olivia, accidentally letting go of Wailmer's fin and went under water. "Hm." Olivia then sees a Bruxish nearby, looking like it was shaking its head no at her.
"Olivia!" Kiawe called out as she resurfaced.
"Huh."
"Rotom Dex told us!" he tells her. "We'll help any way we can!"
"A Bruxish did all this!" said Olivia.
"Wow, Bruxish?" asked Lana.
"Right. I think this area might be Bruxish's territory." Olivia replied. "It's psychic power's dangerous. Ash! Jordan! Pikachu, Meeko, get back on the boat right away!"
"You don't have to tell us twice." said Jordan swimming as fast as she could.
"Back to the boat! Back to the boat!" added Meeko as she followed behind her.
"Bruxish, the Gnash Teeth Pokémon, a water and psychic type." said Rotom. "When the appendage on its head radiates psychic power, it gives off the sound of grinding teeth."
"It must be free or else!" Olivia exclaimed, then turns to her Lycanroc. "Lycanroc, help me."
"Lycanroc." said Lycanroc.
"But wait! Lycanroc's a rock type, which isn't good in water." said Rotom.
"Just watch this." said Olivia, then claps her hands. Lycanroc faces the rock formation. "Lycanroc, go!"
"Whoa!" said Ash as Lycanroc jumps into the air.
"Lycan!" shouted Lycanroc as its body made contact with the rock formation, breaking the rocks to help free Wailmer. As rocks fell into the water, Bruxish starts to become mad.
"Lycan!" Lycanroc shouted as it came back to the boat without a drip of water on its body.
"But how?" asked Ash as Jordan's eyes widen.
"It isn't possible." said Rotom.
"It's not scared of water at all." said Lana.
"That's incredible!" said Mallow.
"Where's Wailmer?" asked Lillie.
"No." said Olivia as they watched Wailmer struggles and goes into the water. "It can't move from the psychic power! It needs help!" Just then, Bruxish jumps out of the water.
"Bruxish!" yelled Bruxish.
"I'm not going to like this, am I?" asked Jordan.
"Nope." said Ash.
"Bru….." said Bruxish, using its psychic scream on the others, causing them to scream and cover their ears. Jordan falls to the ground, bringing her knees to her small body, her face showing how much pain she was in. "Danger! Danger!" shouted Rotom. "Bruxish is activating its psychic power!"
"Lycanroc! Use Rock Slide!" said Olivia.
"Lycan!" said Lycanroc, jumping into the air and howled as it created rocks, sending them towards Bruxish. Out of nowhere, Jordan starts to scream, causing everyone to turn their attention onto her.
"Lucario!" shouted Meeko, picking her trainer up and holding her close. Olivia gasped as the rocks hit the water, causing Bruxish to jump out of the water in anger before swimming away. "That did it." said Sophocles.
"I'm sorry we made it angry." said Lana.
"Let's help Wailmer." said Olivia, jumping into the ocean.
"Right." said Ash, jumping in after her.
"I'm coming too." said Kiawe.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"Okay, Popplio, let's go with them!" said Lana as she and Popplio went into the water.
As Wailmer continued to sink deeper into the water, Popplio reaches it first, circling Wailmer until the others arrived. Lana gestures to Popplio to make a balloon big enough to fit around Wailmer and Popplio starts making a balloon. Once inside, Wailmer starts floating back up to the surface.
All but Jordan gasp when Wailmer came back to the surface. "Wailmer!" said Wailmer, weakly.
"It looks like Wailmer's extremely weak." said Rotom.
"I'll get some medicine." said Lillie, running to get it.
"We're popping the balloon!" said Olivia. "Wailmer will sink right away, so hold it up, everyone."
"Got it!" said Mallow, then jumps into the water.
"Hm? Ah!" said Sophocles, jumping into the water as well.
"Pika." said Pikachu, seeing most of the kids and Olivia in the water.
"Now, Popplio! Pop the balloon, quickly." said Olivia, pointing to the balloon around Wailmer. Popplio pops the balloon and Wailmer starts to sink again, but everyone holds him up.
"All right. Ready? Lift!" said Ash and everyone starts lifting Wailmer, trying to keep it afloat.
"Wailmer. Wailmer. Wail." said Wailmer, flapping its fins around.
"You're going to be just fine." Olivia said to Wailmer. "Please. You can trust us. We want to help you."
"Wail!" said Wailmer, hearing Olivia's words. "Wailmer."
"Olivia! Here's the medicine!" said Lillie, throwing it towards the kahuna.
"Throw it." said Olivia, catching the medicine.
"Wailmer." said Wailmer.
"Now, take it like this." said Olivia, wanting Wailmer to open its mouth. "Ah."
"Wailmer." said Wailmer, opening its mouth, causing Olivia to toss the medicine inside and the psychic power disappears from Wailmer's body.
"Thank goodness." said Olivia, hugging Wailmer. "Wailmer, you did great. You'll be just fine."
"Wailmer!" Wailmer called out its thanks as it swims away from the boat.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"Be careful the next time you see Bruxish!" Ash called out to Wailmer.
"Wailmer!" said Wailmer, letting out a spout of water.
"You really are amazing." said Kiawe.
"Well, uh…I am the island kahuna." said Olivia. "It goes with the territory!" Out of nowhere, Olivia screams in pain.
"Whats wrong?" asked Kiawe as Olivia falls on the ground with her right leg in the air.
"(Groans) It's my poor leg." said Olivia.
"Very interesting. First Wailmer, now a leg cramp." said Lana.
"But so cool!" said Mallow.
"Huh?" said Lana and Sophocles. It was nightfall by the time they reached the Pokémon center on Akala island. "Alola." said Olivia.
"(Sighs) If you're going to be late, I wish you'd let me know." said Nurse Joy.
"Sorry we made you worry." said Olivia.
"Uh, Nurse Joy, when did you move here?" asked Ash.
"Oh, let me guess. You think I'm Nurse Joy from Melemele." said Nurse Joy, seeing Ash's expression on his face. "She's my older sister."
"Uh, sister?" asked Ash.
"Are you twins? You two look over 99% alike!" said Rotom.
"Nurse Joy? These are our Pokémon school students." said Kukui, holding Jordan's hand. "They'll be in your care."
"Thanks for having us." they all said.
"Of course." said Nurse Joy. "We're glad to have you here with us. Enjoy Akala island."
"Right, let's have dinner after you get settled in." said Kukui.
"Yeah, I'm starving." said Ash.
"Me, too!" said Mallow as everyone but Jordan starts laughing and chattering. Lillie notices that Jordan wasn't acting right. She kept burying her face in Kukui's lab coat.
"Hey, Ash? I think something's wrong with Jordan." she tells him.
"Huh?" he said, looking then faces his sister.
"It was horrible, Professor Kukui." said Jordan, holding Professor Kukui's hand.
"Everything's going to be okay." Kukui reassured her.
"Are you….?" Ash started to asked but sees the tears forming in her eyes.
"Ashy…" Jordan said quietly as Meeko became looked worried.
"I know." said Ash, nodding his head, leaving the others confused.
Narrator: Our heroes' Akala Island field trip is just getting started. What adventures will our heroes experience with Olivia, the island kahuna?
Jordan: And if I can sleep through tonight without having to see that big battle.
Narrator: You don't mean….that big battle?
Jordan: Yeah.
Meeko: Lucar, Lucario.
