Out on the practice battlefield, Rockruff was barking excitedly, cheering Ash and Jordan on. Ash places his Grassium Z into his Z-Ring while Kukui helped Jordan with her Poisonium Z.
"Let's do it, Rowlet!" shouted Ash, starting his first ever Grassium Z-Move with Rowlet, hooting as it moved with Ash. "Bloom Doom, Go!"
Suddenly, nothing happened. "Eh?" asked Jordan, confused.
"Cario? Salan?" asked Meeko and Rogue, tilting their heads.
"That's weird. It didn't work." said Ash.
"I'll say." said Jordan.
"You're doing it wrong." said Mallow.
"Huh?" he asked.
"Ash, we went over this a bunch yesterday." Mallow tells him, then demonstrates the move again. "You should pose like this."
Rowlet trilled in agreement. "Oh!" said Ash.
"Your success at duplicating her example is at 53%." said Rotom, causing Ash and Mallow to grunt in frustration.
"You're maintaining good Focus Blast though." said Kukui.
"Pika, Pika." said Pikachu.
"Is it mt turn yet?" asked Jordan. "I'm getting bored over here."
"I suppose now would be a good time." said Ash, walking off the practice battlefield.
"Ready to try Acid Downpour?" Jordan asked Rogue.
"Sal….Salandit." said Rogue, nodding nervously as Kiawe sets up a Pokémon target for her.
"It's ok, Rogue. I'm nervous too." whispered Jordan, causing Rogue to smile up at her.
"Jordan, it's okay to be nervous." Kukui said to them.
"It is? Salan?" they both asked and he nodded.
"As long as you both stay focus and contrate." he tells them.
"Lucario." said Meeko, encouraging.
"Thanks, Meeko. Thanks Professor Kukui." said Jordan.
"Salandit." said Rogue, butting heads with Meeko before heading out onto the battlefield.
"Ready! Let's go, Rogue!" shouted Jordan as she and Rogue started their Z-move. "All right, here we go…..at full power now! Go, Acid Downpour!"
Aiming at a random target stick on the other side of the field, Rogue created a purple swamp like pool, causing the wood of the target to be burn and crumble. "Wow." said the others as Rogue panted.
"That was awesome, Jordan." said Ash.
"Thanks, Ash." she replied.
"Lucario!" said Meeko, jumping into Jordan's arms.
"Are you sure your both prepared for your grand trial?" Sophocles asked.
"Course we are." said Ash. "We always deliver when it really counts."
"I hope so, for your sake." said Kiawe.
"This is my first time watching a grand trial ever." said Lillie. "I can hardly contain myself."
"Yeah, me, too." said Lana as Ash and Jordan's Pokémon ran out to them.
"Hey, Rockruff. You and Leilani want to train with all of us, too, don't you?" Ash asked them.
"Piki!" said Leilani, raising a wing when suddenly Rockruff bites Ash.
"Uh-oh." said Jordan.
"Pika!" said Pikachu.
"Lucario!" said Meeko.
"Huh?" said Kukui, seeing Ash shake out his hand while Jordan backs up.
"You're really fired up, huh?" Ash asked Rockruff. "Just keep that attitude. We'll pass the grand trial for sure."
"And remember to keep your guard up, you two." said Kiawe.
"Right. I'll give it my very best shot." said Ash.
"So will I." said Jordan.
Narrator: Today is finally the day of Ash and Jordan's grand trial. And their opponent…
"To Tapu Lele, the guardian who watches over Akala Island. I, Olivia, the island kahuna, am about to receive the first ever set of Akala grand trial challengers." said Olivia.
Jordan: You're in luck. I'm making you some snacks for watching the grand trial.
Narrator: Yummy!
"Pikachu." said Pikachu as Ash, Jordan and the others walked up to the entrance to the Ruins of life.
"Ash, Jordan, the Ruins of Life will be the stage for your grand trial." said Kukui.
"This is the Ruins of Life? Wow." said Ash.
"Pretty." said Jordan.
"Yes. It's the shrine of Tapu Lele, the guardian of Akala Island." said Kiawe.
"Today, we will all watch Ash and Jordan's Grand Trial." said Kukui. "Now remember to cheer them on."
"Right." said the others.
"Great. Let's do it." said Ash, taking Jordan's hand as he takes a step down the stone steps.
"Of course, I'll take care of all the scorekeeping chores." said Rotom as Ash and Jordan arrived at the battlefield with Rockruff barking.
On the sidelines, Kiawe was keeping an eye on Meeko and Rogue for Jordan. On the other side of the field, Olivia walks up with her Lycanroc. "Hi, Olivia." said Ash.
"I'm glad to see the both of you, Ash and Jordan." she said.
"Thank you for battling us." said the siblings as Rockruff barks out.
"Hm?" said Olivia, looking at a determined Rockruff who continued barking and started to growl.
"Let's begin the island challenge, the Akala grand trial." said Olivia. "Wela Volcano, which nurtures Akala Island….Tapu Lele, the guardian of all island life. Watch over this young man, young lady and me during their island challenge and bestow your strength upon us!"
"Olivia's the coolest." said Mallow.
"She's like a different person." said Lana.
"Well, shall we get this going?" Olivia asked.
"Uh, I think maybe I spoke too soon." Lana corrected herself.
"Right. Sure." said Ash and Jordan when Rockruff runs forward.
"Oh! Rockruff?" asked Ash.
"Pika! Pika!" said Pikachu.
"Calm down, please. Rockruff?" Ash said to the puppy.
"Lucar, Lucario." said Meeko when Rockruff bites Ash in the arm.
"No, Rockruff. Stop that." said Jordan, taking it out of Ash's arms when it also bites her as well. "Ow! That hurts!" Rockruff didn't care, it just continued to growl and glare at Lycanroc.
"Wow, Rockruff sure is restless, you know." said Sophocles.
"Wonder what's the matter." said Lana.
"I feel bad for Jordan." said Mallow, seeing the young Ketchum blinking away the tears in her eyes.
"We will now begin the grand trial battle." said Professor Kukui. "Trainers, your Pokémon!"
"This is the most unique and challenging Pokémon battle on Akala island." said Olivia. "Better get ready."
"I'm ready alright!" said Ash.
"I'm always ready!" said Jordan.
"My partners are all rough and tumble and at the same time cute rock type Pokémon." said Olivia. "Now, Probopass, let's go!"
"Probopass." said Probopass.
"It's a Probopass." said Sophocles.
"Never seen one before." said Mallow.
"Probopass. The Compass Pokémon. A rock and steel type." said Rotom. "Probopass uses magnetic force to control the three Mini-Noses at its sides."
"Yeah? Then I'm going to use…" said Ash, until he was cut off.
"Also…." said Olivia.
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
"Lycanroc." added Olivia and her Lycanroc growls. "This grand trial is going to be a double battle."
"Double battle? All right!" said Ash.
"Awesome!" said Jordan.
"When I had mine, it was a one-on-one." said Kiawe.
"Huh? Really?" asked Sophocles.
"Why is Ash's and Jordan's a Double Battle?" Kiawe asked Olivia.
"First off, Ash and Jordan passed Hala's grand trial on Melemele Island and both of them already have three Z-Crystals." said Olivia. "To bring out all of their strengths, this is exactly what's needed. Ash and Jordan have already been widely acknowledged by Alola's majesty."
"Well, we're both totally into it. Double Battle! Let's do it!" said Ash.
"Yeah! Let's go!" said Jordan.
"Amazing. I can truly see the blue fire burning brightly within Ash and Jordan is not too far behind." thought Kukui. Suddenly, Sophocles' stomach starts grumbling.
"Uh…." said Sophocles.
"Huh?" said the others next to him.
"Being nervous gives me an appetite." he tells them, causing them to all groan.
"All right then, I choose Row…..huh?" said Ash when Rockruff runs out, barking causing Lycanroc to tilt its head.
"Rockruff has trouble with self-control today." said Rotom.
"That's great. I like your eagerness. And Rowlet, I choose you." said Ash.
"It's awake!" said Mallow as Rowlet flies overhead. "Rowlet's all fired up, too."
"I wonder what Pokémon Jordan will use." said Lillie.
"Toph, Leilani, I choose you!" shouted Jordan, tossing the two Pokéballs into the air.
"Pikipek!"
"Mudbray!"
"Smart thinking." said Kiawe.
"Pika? Lucar?" asked Pikachu and Meeko.
"Litten. Salandit." said Litten and Rogue.
"Make sure you cheer us on, okay, guys?" asked Ash as he and Jordan pet their Pokémon. "Of course, no matter what, we'll win."
"Pikachu. Litten. Salandit." said Pikachu, Litten and Rogue as they ran off to the others while Meeko stayed behind.
"You got this, Jordan. I know you can do it." said Meeko.
"Thanks, you two." said Jordan, hugging both Pokémon and they ran off.
"Grand trial, here we come." said Ash and Jordan.
"All right. I want to see everything you've got." said Olivia.
"Battle….begin!" said Kukui.
"Brothers first." said Jordan.
"Rowlet. Use Leafage, go! Rockruff, Rock Throw!" said Ash.
"Oh! Ash gave two commands at the same time." said Lillie.
"That's cause it's a Double Battle, testing a Trainer's skill at making decisions." Sophocles explained.
"That sounds difficult." said Lillie. Rowlet trills as its wings glowed green, sending Leafage while Rockruff summons Rock Throw with its tail.
"Get ready." said Olivia.
"Pro! Lycan." said Probopass and Lycanroc, protecting Olivia from the attacks, causing everyone to gasp.
"All right, Lycanroc, use Rock Slide." said Olivia. Lycanroc howls as huge rocks surrounded its body and sends them towards Ash and Jordan. Once Rock Slide hits the ground, Rowlet and Rockruff went into the air. "Oh, no!" shouted Ash as Lillie covered her eyes.
"Huh?" said Mallow. "So did Rowlet and Rockruff both take damage?"
"They did." said Kiawe. "It's what makes Rock Slide more dangerous."
"I wonder what Jordan will do." said Sophocles.
"Leilani, Aerial Ace! Toph, High Horsepower!" said Jordan.
"Pikipek!" screeched Leilani as she flies swiftly towards Lycanroc, knocking it from the side.
"Mudbray!" shouted Toph, running towards Probopass, using full force with its entire body, knocking it back and separating the three Mini-Noses.
"Wow." said Lana as the three Mini-Noses came back to Probopass.
"Smart move by separating the Mini-Noses like that." said Kiawe as Rockruff and Rowlet landed back on the ground.
"Rowlet and Rockruff, are you okay?" Ash asked.
"Oh, that was scary." said Lana.
"My heart skipped a beat." said Mallow.
"Now use Stealth Rock." said Olivia.
"Probo!" said Probopass, its eyes glowed a light blue and the three Mini-Noses came off circling its body before creating a bigger circle around Ash and Jordan's Pokémon.
Ash and Jordan gasped at the scene in front of them. "Hey. What's going on?" asked Mallow as Rockruff takes off towards Probopass.
"Rockruff, wait!" Ash called out.
"Rockruff, stop!" said Jordan.
Rockruff didn't listen until it was too late and hits one of the Stealth Rocks. "Rockruff!" Ash and Jordan cried out as Stealth Rock appears around their Pokémon.
"They're surrounded." said Lana.
"That Stealth Rock is a serious challenge." said Sophocles.
"Yeah, that's Olivia, using Lycanroc to attack while Probopass acts as a backup." said Kiawe. "She has their Double Battle roles clearly defined. This grand trial is a lot more complicated than I thought."
Ash grunts as Jordan tries to figure out her next moves. "In that case, Rowlet, grab Rockruff and fly." said Ash. Rowlet grabs Rockruff by its collar and flies into the air with Leilani.
"Toph, use Double Kick to break Stealth Rock." said Jordan.
"Good idea, Jordan." said Ash, grinning. "Stealth Rock is no threat if they're in the sky. Rowlet, use Leafage on Probopass."
"Mudbray!" shouted Toph, then raises her hind legs to kick the rocks behind her.
"(Trills)" said Rowlet, its wings glowing green as Leafage starts appearing around it and Rockruff.
"Leilani, use Steel Wing while hiding in Rowlet's Leafage." said Jordan.
"Piki!" said Leilani, her wings glowing and follows Rowlet's Leafage on Probopass, who then groans from both attacks.
"They're good, but I wonder how long they can both keep it up." Olivia said to herself. "Magnet Bomb, let's go!"
"Probo." said Probopass, letting its Mini-Noses separate from its body.
"Here comes the Mini-Noses." said Sophocles as the Mini-Noses surround Leilani, Rockruff and Rowlet. All three were trying to get away when the Mini-Noses block their every path.
"There's no escape." said Olivia. "Never underestimate the Mini-Noses' attack formation."
Suddenly as Rowlet tries fly away with two Mini-Noses on its tail, Rockruff hits the third Mini-Nose towards the ground, only to fly back up and trail Leilani. "Rockruff, use Rock Throw!" shouted Ash.
Rockruff growls as it uses Rock Throw on two of the Mini-Noses. The third Mini-Nose then appears behind Rowlet after knocking Leilani to the ground. "Probo!" said Probopass, its eyes glowed yellow as it knocks Rockruff and Rowlet out of the sky.
"Rockruff! Rowlet!" shouted Ash. Rowlet trills as it and Leilani tried to get up while Rockruff growls.
"The damage from a Magnet Bomb is huge, even if only one unit detonates." explained Olivia. "You've got to be able to deal with it or passing of the grand trial is impossible."
"Lycanroc, Probopass and the Mini-Noses, its five against four. Poor Ash and Jordan." said Lillie.
"In spite of all that, Ash and Jordan still have to win." said Sophocles.
"This is what a grand trial's about." said Kiawe.
"Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Litten! Litten!" shouted Litten.
"Lucar! Lucar!" shouted Meeko.
"Salandit! Salandit!" shouted Rogue.
"Hey, this is starting to get fun." said Ash. "Dealing with challenges is what's battling's about."
"And sometimes battles can fun. Especially when you do them with a sibling." added Jordan.
"Hm." said Kukui, smiling at both brother and sister.
"You're fired up like Wela Volcano." said Olivia. "You know, challengers like you are the best it can get. Now, Probopass, use Zap Cannon on Rowlet and Leilani! Lycanroc, use Accelerock on Rockruff and Toph."
"Probo! Nose! Nose!" said Probopass, firing up its Zap Cannon.
"Rowlet, grab Rockruff and fly again!" said Ash. "Use Leafage on Lycanroc!"
"Leilani, use Steel Wing and fly into Rowlet's Leafage on Lycanroc." said Jordan as Rowlet takes Rockruff again. Toph, use Iron Defense!"
"Mudbray! Piki!" said Toph and Leilani as Leilani surrounds herself in Rowlet's Leafage.
"Pro!" said Probopass, feeling their attacks.
"Now, Lycanroc!" shouted Olivia as Toph hardens her body and raised her defense.
"Lycanroc! Roc! Roc! Roc!" growled Lycanroc as it jumps over Probopass and its Mini-Noses.
"Quick, look out!" Lillie cried out.
"Who'd have thought that could happen?" asked Mallow.
"Collecting data." said Rotom. Lycanroc had an eerie white glow around its body and knocks Rowlet and Rockruff out of the sky. Rowlet lands hard on Toph's head.
"Now use Zap Cannon!" shouted Olivia.
"Heads up, Rowlet!" shouted Ash.
"Probopass." said Probopass, shooting its Zap Cannon at Rowlet and Toph. Still in the air, Rockruff sends one of Probopass' Mini-Noses towards Lycanroc. "Lycan." said Lycanroc. Rowlet looks up and dust surrounds them, leaving Toph getting the attack, causing her to faint.
"Toph!" Jordan called out as everyone gasped.
"Toph is unable to battle." said Kukui.
"I'm sorry, Jordan. Rowlet didn't mean it." said Ash as Jordan recalls Toph to her Pokeball.
"It's okay, Ash." said Jordan, smiling at her brother. "Accidents happen no matter where we are."
"(Trills)" said Rowlet, flying over to Jordan, feeling guilty about what it had done to its friend.
"It's okay, Rowlet. You didn't mean to do it." said Jordan, pressing her head against the soft quill Pokémon.
"Pikipek." said Leilani, patting her friend's back.
"Rockruff's skillful maneuvering is totally amazing." said Mallow.
"Yeah and Jordan's down one Pokémon." said Sophocles.
"Rockruff, nice backup!" said Ash. Rockruff barks and growls as Rowlet preens its right wing causing Rockruff to be mad at it.
"Rockruff!" said Ash.
"There's that weird behavior once again!" said Lillie.
"Yeah. I hope Rockruff's going to be all right." Mallow agreed.
"Okay, time to counterattack!" said Ash.
"All right, Mini-Noses, surround Rowlet and Rockruff." said Olivia.
"Nose!" said the Mini-Noses.
"Probopass!" said Probopass, going after its Mini-Noses as they surrounded Rowlet and Rockruff.
"Let's go, Lycanroc." said Olivia.
"It's a Z-Move." said Ash.
"Hm. That's it! Rowlet, fly up in the air with Rockruff! Leilani, follow Rowlet!" said Ash.
"Hm!" said Olivia, starting her Z-Move and Lycanroc howls.
"That roar….the heartbeat of life." said Olivia. "The reverberating echo that pierces the skies above and the ground below." Lycanroc howls as it connects with its Trainer. "Hold it right there, you two!" said Ash and Jordan.
"Go Continental Crush!" shouted Olivia. Lycanroc howled as it created a huge boulder in the sky. "Be careful! Be careful!" said Rotom.
"Rowlet, Leilani, above you!" said Lana.
"Get away right now." said Mallow.
"What in the world is Ash trying to do?" asked Kiawe. "Why isn't Jordan stopping him?"
"Lycanroc!" Lycanroc snarled, letting go of Continental Crush.
"Pro!" said Probopass as it landed on the ground.
"Do it, Rowlet and Leilani." said Ash.
"Pikipek!" said Leilani as Rowlet trills with Rockruff in its claws, flying away from what remains of Stealth Rock. Continental Crush smashes right into Stealth Rock, causing dust to rise up from the ground with all three Pokémon coming out just fine.
"All right." said Ash.
"Ha-ha!" laughed Jordan.
"Huh?" said a confused Akala Island kahuna.
"Unbelievable." said Rotom. "The Stealth Rock disappeared."
"Pika!" said Pikachu.
"Lucar!" said Meeko.
"Wow! Ash and Jordan were lucky." said Sophocles.
"You're wrong. That wasn't luck." said Kiawe.
"Huh?" said the others.
"That was Ash's strategy all along." he tells them. "That kid and his sister can be so extreme."
"Lycan." said Lycanroc.
"I see. Smoothly done." said Olivia. "Get ready for more. Probopass, use Giga Impact on Rockruff!"
"Pro!" said Probopass as light surrounded its body.
"Lycanroc, use Rock Slide." commanded Olivia and Lycanroc howls as it summons Rock Slide.
"Rowlet, use Leafage! Rockruff, use Bite on Lycanroc!" said Ash.
"Leilani, use Bullet Seed on Lycanroc!" said Jordan.
Rowlet releases Leafage on Probopass, only to pass through the smoke. Leilani spits out Bullet Seed to keep Lycanroc in place while teeth appeared around Rockruff's face after being knocked into the cliffside by Probopass.
Lycanroc tries to shake Rockruff off, but it wouldn't let go. "What fighting spirit!" said Olivia, making an observation.
"Awesome, Rockruff. Don't let it go." said Ash. "Rowlet, help Rockruff and Leilani!"
"(Trills)" said Rowlet, heading over to its friends.
"Probopass, use Magnet Bomb on Rowlet." said Olivia.
"Pro! Nose!" said Probopass, letting its Mini-Noses run loose again. Rowlet flies through the air, leading the Mini-Noses all over the place until it lead them back to Probopass.
"Now, Rowlet." said Ash, finally starting his grass type Z-Move.
"I won't let you! Probopass, use Giga Impact!" shouted Olivia.
"Probopass." said Probopass, heading towards Rowlet.
"Come on, Ash!" shouted Jordan.
"Get ready for this, Probopass." he said. "Here we go with full power now! All right, Bloom Doom, let's go!"
Suddenly, the ground around Rowlet sprouts flowers and a ball of greenish yellow light appears and knocks Probopass to the ground. "Probopass is unable to battle." said Kukui as Probopass groans.
"Pika! Pika!" said Pikachu as the others cheered.
"Go Jordan and Ash!" said Meeko.
"Nice job, Ash." said Jordan, high-fiving her brother.
"Thanks, sis." said Ash.
"Ash completely nailed it." said Kiawe.
"What an amazing sight to see." said Mallow. Oliva walks up to Probopass.
"Thank you. You battled well, Probopass. Good job." Olivia said to Probopass.
"Probo…." said Probopass as it returned to its Pokeball.
"Lycanroc, the rest is up to you." said Olivia.
"Roc!" said Lycanroc.
"We did it, Rowlet." said Ash, as it lands on his arm. "Now we deal with Lycanroc."
"You up for battling Lycanroc, Leilani?" asked Jordan with Leilani on her shoulder.
"Pikipek, Pek." said Leilani with a determined nod as Rowlet trills. Out on the field, Rockruff starts barking and growling again as it jumps from side to side.
"Huh?"
"Great. Let's do it, Rockruff." said Ash. "Now, Rowlet, grab Rockruff and fly."
"Leilani, round two." said Jordan. Once away from their trainers, Rowlet goes to crab Rockruff, who then attacks it in mid-air. Everyone was stunned at this as Rowlet was knocked back to the ground.
"Rowlet!" Ash cried out as he ran up to Rowlet. Rockruff lands on the ground, growling and starts to whine as it sees what it did to Rowlet. "Rowlet. Rowlet!" said Ash as it trills weakly.
"Urgh! Rowlet is unable to battle." said Kukui, making everyone gasp. Rockruff was stunned at what it did, whining as Rowlet trills unconsciously. "Wow, Rockruff really blew it." said Sophocles.
"It got way too excited and completely lost control." said Kiawe.
"Thanks for some great battling." said Ash, taking out Rowlet's Pokeball. "You deserve a good rest. Huh?"
Rockruff walks up to Ash and Jordan, whimpering in sadness, letting them know that it was sorry for what it did. Just then, Ash gets down on all fours, reminding Rockruff the training they did chuckling as he smiled. "Oh my god. Not again." said Jordan, smacking her forehead.
"Lucario." said Meeko, covering her eyes.
"Hey, Rockruff. Do you remember this?" asked Ash as the others gasped.
"Wait. Is that a pose?" asked Mallow.
"The pose it did when it learned Rock Throw." said Rotom.
"Let's beat Lycanroc. Jordan, Leilani and I will battle along with you." He tells Rockruff.
"Come here, Rockruff." said Jordan and it walks up to her with Leilani landing on her shoulder. "I'm honored to be battling alongside you. The one thing that I'm not doing is the Rock Throw pose. That's all Ash."
"Ruff." said Rockruff.
"I will tell you a secret though." said Jordan, causing Rockruff to tilt its head as she whispers the secret in its ear, causing it to smile.
"Rockruff!" yipped Rockruff and Jordan sets the rock type puppy down. Determined to win the battle with Ash and Jordan by its side, Rockruff growls and barks at Lycanroc.
"Well, that's interesting Ash." said Olivia.
"Battle along with Rockruff. What does Ash mean by that?" questioned Lillie.
"Let's do it, Rockruff! Use Rock Throw!" shouted Ash.
"Ruff!" barked Rockruff.
"Lycanroc, use Accelerock." said Olivia as Lycanroc hits Rockruff head on while. Rockruff sends out Rock Throw as it was pushed back.
"Leilani, use Bullet Seed!" said Jordan.
"All right, use Bite." said Ash.
"Piki!" said Leilani, attacking Lycanroc from the side with seeds.
"Ruff!" barked Rockruff as teeth appeared and tries to bite, but was knocked back again.
"Use Rock Slide." said Olivia as Lycanroc howls and releases Rock Slide.
"Jump!" shouted Ash.
"Dodge it!" shouted Jordan. Rockruff jumps onto Lycanroc's Rock Slide as Leilani weaves in and out, causing Olivia to gasp at their teamwork. "Okay, Rockruff. Use Rock Throw." said Ash.
"All right, Leilani. Combine Bullet Seed with Rockruff's Rock Throw." said Jordan.
"Pikipek!" screeched Leilani as Rockruff howls, both attacks combining and knocking Lycanroc down from the sky. Back on the ground, Rockruff starts barking over its shoulder at an unconscious Lycanroc.
"Lycanroc is unable to battle and that mean the winners of the grand trial are Ash and Jordan Ketchum, the battle challengers." said Professor Kukui. Soon as he said that, Rockruff groans and falls to the ground as Leilani takes a deep breath.
"Huh? Rockruff?" asked Ash as he and Jordan ran to their Pokémon.
"Pikachu! Lucario!" said Pikachu and Meeko.
"That was the closest match I've ever seen." said Kiawe.
"Thanks a lot, Rockruff." said Ash, picking up a whimpering Rockruff.
"You did great, Leilani." said Jordan.
"Piki." she said.
"Thank you for such a heated battle, Lycanroc." said Olivia, rubbing its fur.
"Pika! Pika!" said Pikachu.
"Cario!" said Meeko.
"That was super amazing." said Mallow.
"It blew me away." said Lana.
"A great battle. Definitely." said Kiawe.
"Thanks, everybody." said Ash and Jordan.
"Piki?" asked Leilani, then she started to glow on Jordan's shoulders.
"Huh?" said Jordan, covering her eyes as Leilani hops down.
"What's going on?" asked Lillie.
"Leilani's evolving." said Sophocles.
"Pikipek, Piki…Trumbeak." said Leilani, evolving into Trumbeak.
"Is it over?" asked Jordan, with her hands over her eyes.
"Yeah, but take a look." said Ash, hugging his sister from behind. She then peeks through her fingers to see Leilani.
"You evolved into a Trumbeak!" squealed Jordan.
"Trumbeak! Trum!" said Leilani.
"Congratulations, Jordan." said Ash and the others, causing both trainer and her Pokémon to blush.
"Cari, Cari, Cario." said Meeko, looking at Leilani in awe.
"Ash, Jordan." said Olivia as she and Kukui walked over. "Both that jump and weaving through Rock Slide was brilliant."
"Olivia…." said Ash and Jordan.
"Congrats on passing your grand trial. Here we are." said Olivia, holding two Z-Crystals in her hand. "Your presents from Akala Island, a rock-type Z-Crystal."
"You can use the Rock-type Z-Move with Rockruff all you want." said Olivia. Just as she was stepping forward, Olivia squeals as she falls to the ground.
"Huh?" said the others.
"Interesting. Dancing, battling, and tripping, too." said Lana.
"(Laughs) Let's try that again." said Olivia. "Here."
"Huh? Thanks a lot." said Ash.
"And Jordan, I didn't forget about you." said Olivia, smiling at the youngest Ketchum.
Olivia nodded to Kukui, who then steps aside to reveal a Midnight Lycanroc. Jordan blinks for a moment before raising her hand out to her Lycanroc. "Cool." said Jordan, as it raises its paw and pats her on the head.
"Hm?" said Kukui, looking at Leilani and smiles. "I see that Leilani evolved."
"Yeah." she replied as Ash holds his Rockium Z-Crystal in the light.
"We just got a Rockium Z!" shouted Ash, posing with Jordan.
"Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Lucario!" shouted Meeko.
"You've collected your fourth Z-Crystal." said Rotom.
"Excellent. Great work." said Kiawe.
"Good for you." said Mallow.
"Rockruff. It's all thanks to you and Leilani for battling so hard." said Ash, showing Rockruff the Rockium Z. "Huh?"
"Ash." said Olivia, gaining his attention.
"What, Olivia?" he asked.
"Here's what I'm thinking after our battle today." she said to Ash. "It seems like Rockruff is going to evolve in the very near future."
"You see, when Rockruff's getting ready to evolve," Kukui explains. "it becomes more aggressive and also tends to act more independently."
"Wow. Rotom said the same thing." said Ash.
"You weren't that bad….were you?" Jordan asked her Lycanroc.
"Lycanroc." giggled Lycanroc, shaking her head.
"It won't be long now, Ash." said Rotom.
"Rockruff, are you going to evolve?" asked Ash.
"I wonder if you will evolve into your Midday form or Midnight form like Jordan's Lycanroc." said Rotom. "I can hardly contain my curiosity."
"I think you're going to be so cool either which way." said Ash. "Become whichever form you want."
"I agree." said Jordan, causing Rockruff to look up at her. "Whether you evolve into your Midday form or your Midnight form is totally up to you."
"Lycanroc." said Lycanroc, nodding as Ash sits down with Rockruff in his lap. Suddenly, scales were falling from the sky.
"Huh?"
"Pika? Lucar? Beak? Lycan?" asked the Pokémon. Spreading her scales, Tapu Lele was seen heading into the trees, causing them to gasp. "What was that?" asked Kukui.
"Tapu Lele." replied Olivia.
Narrator: Ash and Jordan have passed Olivia's Akala Island grand trial and won a Rockium Z.
Jordan: Don't forget, I also received a Lycanroc in its Midnight Form and Leilani evolve into a Trumbeak.
Narrator: Congratulations.
