The Imperial Downfall was something I had expected for months now. To see it unfold through the reports I was receiving truly settled a sense of foreboding about the matter.
Moves were made to both worsen and lessen the effects of such collapse, with the Federation joining along in quite the destructive display. In less than a week, the two super-countries were exploding, with Gallia remaining one of the few regions untouched by the disaster. The Emperor's Death further cracked onto the Imperialists' morale and the fall of the Imperial Capital ultimately shattered the unitary element keeping all loyalists together.
To make things even 'funnier', I had authorized Radi Jaeger to 'return home and... do what was right'. He was confused when I told him as much, but I gave him crates with guns and bullets, a faux order to 'garrison' Fhirald, and the carte blanche to recruit soldiers loyal to his cause.
He was quite stunned, but ultimately Radi went on to take care of the task at hand. I pretty much told him that I was going to let him revolt against the Empire. He was stunned but grateful. He left around the end of September, carrying forth a sizable force to accomplish this task. And the rest of the forces once commanded by the Drei Stern were properly absorbed after an intense vetting process.
Those that were 'spared' due to their loyalty to the military were further blessed when given citizenship and the means to reach out for their families and secure passage for them to be relocated to Gallia. The overall process was more tedious than how it had been for troops already loyal to me, especially with a revolution underway, but the chaos and collapse of authority allowed for large migrations to unfold.
Houses were built fast, new settlements established and regulations further implemented. By September 29, Cordelia and I shared a conversation in regard to reframe a new constitution. The thought and the topic had been up in the air during the war, but now that the situation demanded it, a proper plan was established.
On October 4, an announcement was made over the implementation of the '1935 Constitution', meant to remove the nobility as relevant elements within politics, relegating them to their fiefs with pensions but no powers behind their titles, and the implementations of new rights over the citizens. However, democracy was limited as I still retained the title of 'Governor-General of Gallia' by Cordelia's mandate. To reinforce the importance of the national unity, Gallia was also elevated unilateraly as a Kingdom, with Cordelia becoming Ruling Queen of Gallia.
The overall announcement was further rejoiced by the masses when a date was set: the date for the election of a democratic parliament. Divided in a Senate of 120 members and a Chamber of Deputies of 300 members, the formation of the parties in such a short amount of time was possible through those that already existed. Most of the parties were allowed to take part to the elections, but anything resembling Fascist and Communist groups and alliances were forbidden by Royal Decree.
It was October 20, the polls had been open for two days and the electoral effort produced... a bit of a frightening development came through. Socialism had been spreading fast despite the recent reforms, but it was clear that agitators had used the collapse of the Empire to ostracize the current government. The voting system was not restricted, thus producing a more free and seemingly jarring result.
Gallian Elections of 1935
Chamber of Deputies:
-Gallian Conservative Block:
Gallian People's Party: 88 Seats
Reform Party: 51 Seats
Agrarian Union: 22 Seats
Federal Party: 21 Seats
-Republican Alliance:
Socialist Party of Gallia: 74 Seats
Liberal-Republican Party: 44 Seats
Senate:
-Gallian Conservative Block: 73 Seats
-Republican Alliance: 47 Seats
The Gallian People's Party of moderate mindset had been conceived through politicians that had been picked to form a 'Pro-Occupation' ideology and it established itself as the primary party with 88 seats, followed by the Socialist Party at 74 seats in the Chamber of Deputies. Due to how fragmented and abrupt the elections were, coalitions were deemed acceptable, and two large groups were soon created through political deals.
The Gallian Conservative Bloc was a Pro-Monarchy alliance created between the Gallian People's Party, the Reform Party of Liberal descent, the centrist Agrarian Union, and the monarchist Federal Party, raising the seats of the Majority up to 182 seats out of 300 and 73 senators out of 120. The Socialists and the Liberal-Republican Party attempted to form the Republican Alliance, but the small votes gained from this union worsened the already divided Socialist Party.
As the parliament was presented, an announcement was made by some of the Socialist Party's representatives announcing the creation of the Social-Democratic Union, a reformist party that was willing to cooperate with the current government- thus decimating the opposition and allowing Gallia to avoid issues with factionalism.
With the parliament starting its work the next day, a few laws were passed through advise by the ruling majority. A governative cabinet was established, and while most of the seats were occupied by the original coalition, the SDU secured itself the role of creating the 'National Union of Gallia'. The notion was to prevent any potential external unions to be established as a tool of the Socialists to create General Strikes and try to force their ideas through.
The plan was also to pass some degree of welfare to satisfy any potential doubt of the SDU seeing this more as a 'Divide et Impera' situation. All in all, the process of reforming Gallia in a better state was well underway. And I was here, on October 22, mentioning this to Cordelia while we were having a picnic in the palace's garden.
"Are those truly trustworthy? They came from the same group that still wants me dethroned."
"They may share some ideas, but that seems what made them leave. All in all, these new groups lack cohesion, which is why it's useful for us both."
A slow nod came from Cordelia and... she hummed.
"So, about Selvaria. What's the plan, actually?"
"...We are just keeping her around, imprisoned," I assured, while Cordelia appeared unsure of this.
"I mean, Crymaria turned out fine-"
"Crymaria wasn't obsessed by someone and is not suicidal. I told you already where Selvaria was found- and what she had done."
Cordelia knew that Selvaria's attempt had been deadly reckless. Not only that, but she had no good bone towards us all- even considering her a neutral element was just begging to play with fire.
"It's just that- you know, maybe you can say and do something. I know you can try something."
"No."
"Kurt-"
"I know what happens if I succeed and I don't like it," I pointed out stressfully. "Look, I am not becoming her new fixation. One thing is you, Isara, and Crymaria- yes, I know what you're all doing but... Cordelia, that's someone that is too broken inside and the only solution would latch her to me."
"...Please?"
"No."
...
"And how do you plan to 'help' her, then?"
I sighed. "Two psychologists have been tasked with this. Both are women so it should avoid any surprises in that front."
"I suppose it's better than nothing," The newly-made Queen remarked, soon flashing a curious look. "So, you know we all are pining for you?"
"You have been dating me relentlessly up to this point, I may be distracted but I am not dumb," I rebuked, causing her to giggle.
"Well?"
"...I can agree to do something private, but I want to see your point, Cordelia. I thought we agreed until you were older to get 'intimate'-"
"And that's the plan. But would it be fair for me to leave my future husband devoid of intimacy?"
"So, you have Isara and Crymaria to deal with that."
"To warm things up until 1937. Then... I've read books."
"More like trash," I groaned, causing Cordelia to huff at the insult at her crappy smut. "And you know that's the case."
We shared a sigh together and-
"We made flower crowns!" The happy voice owned by a still-fragile but clearly recovering Angelica Farnaby brought smiles as any topics were ended.
The two smaller Valkyriae came soon after the pinkette, and poor Crymaria was carrying a questionable amount of floreal crowns to 'give around'. Cordelia giggled, and I smiled at the sight. Peace was upon us, but while things were safe for now... I knew better than seeing it beyond what it truly was.
My Waiting Game to then end what will be left of the two broken superpowers.
