"Jazz did suggest changing his name," Shonda said once she had gotten home from shopping with her new son and her best friend. "I was actually hoping that wouldn't be necessary as it's bad enough that he's an orphan and ended up on the street. I wanted him to keep at least something from his old life, but it's still a good suggestion. I mean, really, he's been through enough trauma for anybody, especially someone so young and changing his name seems cruel considering."
"That's exactly what I told Dave to, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea," Aaron said. "Dave pointed out if his name was more common then it wouldn't be a problem to keep it. Ciaran is a very unusual name in this century. Changing his name just adds extra security for him just in case CPS or anybody else comes asking about him."
"He'll need documentation regardless," Shonda mused. "A Social Security number. There's already a Ciaran Blakelock system which is another reason for changing his name, since we have no idea what his social security number is."
"We do know people that can do that for us though," Aaron said. "We've done the same thing ourselves every generation."
"That's very true. This century is so high tech that everyone born needs certain documents. He might be able to live without a birth certificate, but he does need a new Social Security number and other documentation."
"Dave suggested using his middle name and hopefully, it's more normal than his first," Aaron remarked. "He also suggested Cian, which is similar to his old name, but not so similar that anybody will question it."
"We'll see what Ciaran says," Shonda said and Aaron nodded.
"That's exactly what I was thinking. He's certainly intelligent enough to make his own decision on what name he wants to use from now on," Aaron agreed.
Shonda agreed with her husband on that and so the two of them headed to what had used to be the guestroom but now belonged to their new son.

Ciaran listened quietly to what the two adults were telling him and didn't protest that he didn't want to change his name. He understood that they couldn't use the Social Security number that he'd been assigned when he'd been born as that would let people know he was alive. It wasn't even that really, just that he didn't know what his Social Security number was as his mother had kept those documents in a safe place and he hadn't thought to collect his Social Security card or birth certificate before he had left. Besides, it wasn't like he had a secure place to keep identification documents while living on the street so it was probably just as well he didn't think of it.
"My middle name is Brantley, which I never have liked," Ciaran admitted with a grimace.
"Well Dave suggested Cian," Aaron told him. "It's similar enough to your old name, but also different enough that people won't be suspicious."
Ciaran tried out the name in his head and liked the sound of it. It was short and to the point and the first three letters were the same as his old name. Even better he didn't feel like he was abandoning the name his mother had given him entirely.
"I like it," Ciaran said. "It's similar enough to my old name that I don't feel like I'm abandoning the one my mother gave me."
"Oh, good I'll tell, Dave that his suggestion has been accepted," Aaron said pleased.
"Now that we've got that sorted what about a new middle name as well since you dislike Brantley so much," Shonda said.
"Something normal like George or Henry so you don't stand out," Aaron said. "Besides, you might need to use you middle name someday you never know."
Ciaran couldn't imagine any situation where he would have to use his middle name as his first but he said nothing.
"I've always liked Teagan," Ciaran said.
"Well that's not exactly a common name either," Shonda said, "though it's not as uncommon as other names."
"So long as you're willing to use it as a first name if you need to then I suppose it'll do," Aaron said. "Where did you hear such a name if I may ask."
Ciaran shrugged, "I heard it somewhere and it just stuck with me and I decided I really liked it."
"So that's T...E...A...G...A...N?" Shonda questioned.
"I don't know how its spelled," Ciaran said.
"There's also a name that is spelled the same, except there's no first A. They mean totally different things though," Shonda said.
"It doesn't matter either one is fine. I don't really care either way," Ciaran shrugged.
"I'll get all the documentation necessary," Aaron said and Shonda nodded.
"Sounds good," Shonda said kissing Aaron on the cheek.
"You'll be our nephew from now on," Aaron added. "We were hoping you could at least keep your middle name, but if you want to change it because you hate it then we will."
"I appreciate all the trouble you're going to, even though I know I'm young," Ciaran said. "You didn't have to take me in either, but I do appreciate it."
"Just because you're young doesn't mean that you can't appreciate or understand what's going on," Shonda said. "We know someone who is very intelligent just like you are and is a genius. He had a tough childhood too, though he didn't end up on the street like you did."
"We'll have to introduce you two sometime soon," Aaron added. "He's married to our goddaughter."
"So you've encountered someone kind of like me before," Ciaran said obviously intrigued.
"The only differences is he grew up neglected by his father and his mother died when he was young, but that still doesn't mean you aren't very similar in some ways," Shonda said. "He's a veterinarian and very good at what he does."
Ciaran knew that meant he was a doctor for animals.
"I would like to meet him," Ciaran said looking intrigued.
"You will soon, but he and Shawnda are traveling in Europe right now," Aaron said.
Ciaran noticed the similarities in Shonda and Shawnda's name and thought the goddaughter had probably been named after his hostess. He knew that happened sometimes when somebody was good friends and then had a child.

"So how's Cian doing?" Jazz asked her friend as Shonda stopped by the bakery.
"He's doing a lot better," Shonda said. "He's really settled in and I promised to bring him something chocolate from your bakery. He really loves the sweets from here, but then, all our children do, so I suppose it's not surprising that Cian is the same in that regard."
The two of them set at one of the tables that was available and talked softly while one of the employees handled the register.
"Well, it's not like he had chocolate very often when he lived with his mother and it was probably cheap fake chocolate, which isn't even half as good as the real deal," Jazz said with a grimace having heard the whole story now.
"That's very true," Shonda said. "I know the mother did her best, but probably didn't have any marketable skills."
"I am glad he appeared in our lives, because this way we can help him," Jazz remarked, even as she took a sip of her coffee. "I'm sorry what happened to his parents and everything, but tragedy happens to good people. I'm sure the mother at least would be happy that her son is going to have a good life that she couldn't give him. So have you told him about..."
Jazz stopped before she finished the sentence because they were in public, but Shonda knew what her friend was asking.
"Not yet, but we plan to soon. Maybe over dinner with all four of us," Shonda said. "Perhaps you can make some type of dessert and add the magic," she whispered. "It'll make him accept the explanation easier. I mean it worked on Spencer and got him to accept our explanation much easier then he probably normally would have."
It didn't need to be said that the explanation had been rather fantastic as magic and immortality isn't exactly a normal conversation topic for most people.
"Not a bad idea, as it really helped with Spencer," Jazz said obviously already thinking about what she could make for dessert. "So your place or mine?"
"Mine, as I'll do the cooking this time. It's only fair," Shonda said.
"Do you want the children there or should Dave and I find a babysitter?" Jazz asked.
"You can bring them as they're old enough to behave after dinner while we explain things to Cian. The older ones can even help while the younger ones can just watch a vid or something," Shonda said.
"Dave was rather pleased that Cian accepted the name he suggested," Jazz said quietly.
"He says he likes it because it is close to his old name as he can get and it reminds him that his mother gave him his name," Shonda said. "He also changed his middle name because he said he hated the original one, which was Brantley."
"I can't blame him for disliking his middle name," Jazz said wrinkling her nose in disgust. "It's not as bad as some names but that doesn't mean I like it very much. I will never name any of my sons that. I suppose though, it can always be shortened to Brant or even Bran."
"Yes, Teagan is better," Shonda agreed.
The two friends continued to talk softly, but finally, Shonda rose and said, "I have to be getting home."
Shonda picked up the bag that Jazz had handed her when she had gotten to the counter and Jazz saw her to the door.
"I'll call you sometime in the next few days," Jazz offered and Shonda nodded.
"That would be good," Shonda agreed before she headed for her air car with the bag in her hand. Shonda was soon in the driver's seat the doors having opened automatically, as she approached the vehicle and the car was soon in the air joining the traffic.
