The morning sun peeked out upon Sunagakure – aka The Village Hidden In the Sand – and Gaara awoke to a sweet, savory smell. He may not have been entirely awake at the moment, but he could tell that somebody was cooking. Why anybody would cook for him at this hour was beyond him, but still, he decided that a free breakfast was a free breakfast. After getting out of his bed, he headed for the kitchen/dining room, where a familiar face awaited him…
"Morning, Gaara!"
Gaara yawned. "Naruto, why are you here?"
"I decided to make breakfast for you because today is National Pancake Day! Believe it!"
"I have a hard time believing it. Nevertheless, I appreciate the gesture, so I'll gladly have some."
"Grand!"
Gaara sat down, while Naruto Uzumaki served him some okonomiyaki, Japanese-style pancakes. More specifically, these were made from flour, egg, cabbage and were stuffed with chicken gizzards. Gaara cut off a piece and took a bite. He nodded.
"This is really good. How did you learn to make these?"
"I got the recipe from Sakura. Her recipe called for pork belly, but I know you like weird stuff like gizzards, so that's what I made them with!"
Gaara smiled. "Naruto, you may be weird, but you're my best friend!"
"Awww, love you too, Gaara!"
Gaara blushed at the mention of the "L-word". While he had been warming up to Naruto lately, he hadn't expected the blond Hokage to express his appreciation that much. Nevertheless, he smiled and let him know exactly how he felt:
"Thank you, Naruto. After all these years of suffering abuse at the hands of my father, it makes me happy knowing that people like you exist. More than any other person, you've changed my life."
"Well, I'm glad! I mean, I've had a crappy life too, so I wanna be good to people so that when I die, they'll look back and say what a great guy I was!" Naruto took another bite. "These actually turned out really good, too. I didn't expect much from chicken gizzards, but they're actually pretty good."
Gaara's look turned serious. "I don't get it. Why is everyone so grossed out by gizzards?"
"Um, hello! What normal person eats that kind of thing?"
Gaara swallowed. "You know, Naruto, it's ironic for you to be talking about normal when you yourself have an unhealthy obsession with ramen."
Naruto smirked. "Hey, ramen is food, too! Although, I might try it with chicken gizzards considering how good these are."
Gaara smiled. "Now that you mention it, that does sound good. I'll have to try making that some time."
"Hey, I have a recipe if you're interested!"
"I am interested."
"Grand! I'll give you the recipe after breakfast!"
After breakfast, Gaara freshened up and returned to find that Naruto had written his ramen recipe down.
"Thank you again for making breakfast, Naruto. That was quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever had."
"You're welcome, Gaara! I like doing random acts of kindness for people, and you're my favorite person to be kind to!"
"Am I really?"
Without saying a word, Naruto wrapped his arms around Gaara and kissed him. Initially, Gaara flailed about as the redness and heat rushed to his face, not expecting Naruto to be so affectionate towards him. Soon, however, the red-haired Kazekage wrapped his arms around his Hokage friend after discovering that, yes, he did in fact enjoy kissing boys. Besides, considering all the crap he'd been through in his life, he really needed somebody to love him, and he decided that there was nobody he'd rather love than this whiskered blond. All he could think about was how, despite their differences, they shared so much in common, and he was hard-pressed to think of anyone else who could be better for him. As he got lost in the touch of Naruto's lips, Gaara was looking forward to sharing more than just breakfast with him, and the possibilities brightened his mind. Eventually, Naruto broke away from the kiss, but not without leaving smiles on both their faces. Gaara responded to the whole thing thusly:
"In that case, you're my favorite person to be kind to as well."
Naruto giggled. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I have business to attend to back home. I can't wait to see you again!"
"Neither can I. Have a nice day, Naruto!"
"You too!"
Naruto waved at Gaara as he left the latter's home. Gaara could tell that this was going to be a great day, as would the coming ones.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
