Disclaimers:
I do not own Sailor Moon and those in the DC Universe. Sailor Moon is written by Naoko Takeuchi in manga form and aired as a series by Toei Animation and TV Asahi in Japan and by Kodansha Comics in North America. DC Universe is honestly comprised of multiple people for its creation. Starting out as DC Comics in 1937, a lot of the shows started airing in 1992. For this one shot, I do not own the characters from Batman. Batman is created by DC Entertainment and became their first animated series through WB Entertainment in 1992.
A little boy of six-years-old was wearing an uncomfortable tuxedo in his size and plastering on a fake smile. He had black hair that was combed back and tidy while his blue eyes looked around the huge gala that his parents took him to. The little boy was really getting bored and really wanted to get away, but due to his parents playing nice to the other participants, he couldn't walk away and hide. It was fortunate that his parents finally let him wander a bit away from them, leading him to hide behind a curtain, only his shoes were sticking out from underneath. Sighing in relief, the little boy grumbled about boring galas and putting up pretences. He didn't even hear a pair of footsteps coming from in front of him. "Excuse me," said a girly voice, "Demo, can I please hide behind the curtain as well?"
"It's a free country," said the little boy, "Also… d-demo?"
"Ah," said the girly voice, "Sorry! I forgot that I can't use my language here. Daddy always told me to speak in English if he brings me to his work."
"So, demo is your native language," questioned the little boy.
"Yup," chirped the girly voice.
The little boy frowned as the person with the girly voice wasn't even coming underneath the curtains with him. Pulling the curtains back a bit, the little boy blinked as he got a look at who had the girly voice. It was a little girl who was probably a year younger than him. She had wide crystal blue eyes and two golden blonde pigtails that were held with red ribbon. On her was a pretty pink dress that most of the so-called elites of his hometown, Gotham, wouldn't caught dead in. However, the pink dress made the little girl pretty in his blue eyes. Looking around them, the little boy could tell that no one was watching as he grabbed the little girl's hand and pulled her behind the curtain. "So," said the little boy awkwardly, "Is this your first time at a gala?"
"No," said the little girl, "Daddy always has a press badge to some galas, but this is the first time in Gotham."
"First time in Gotham, huh," questioned the little boy before something else caught his attention, "Wait a minute. Press badge?"
"Mhm," nodded the little girl, "Daddy is a photographer for any news outlet that would pay him for photos."
"I see," said the little boy.
The little boy furrowed his eyebrows at that. He didn't know that there was a freelance photographer around. He was surprised the photographer even brought his little girl to something like this. Usually, something bad happens in Gotham, and here's a little girl wandering without her father to protect her. The little boy frowned more as he heard that since her mother was taking care of her little brother, it was just her father and her. Since he was thinking hard, he almost missed what the little girl was asking him. "So, what's your name," asked the little girl.
"Oh," said the little boy who flushed slightly, "Timothy Drake. But, I like people to call me Tim."
"Nice to meet you, Tim," chirped the little girl, "My name is Serena Tsukino. If you come to Japan, look me up as Usagi!"
"U-sa-gi," questioned Tim.
"Oo," started Serena slowly, "Sa-Gi."
"Oo-sa-gi," said Tim slowly.
"Mhm," said Serena with a smile on her face.
"I guess you are Japanese since you said if I go to Japan," said Tim.
"Un," nodded Serena enthusiastically.
"Any other Japanese words I should know," questioned Tim curiously.
With that, a friendship formed between Tim and Serena during one boring gala. The two were exchanging words, Serena in her native language and Tim in his. Tim learned a lot of useful one-worded Japanese, and for once, Tim could say that he had fun at a gala. Of course, this was probably the only gala he was going to talk to Serena at. Tim, however, surprised his parents before Serena and he parted ways by asking his parents if he could keep in touch with Serena. Tim knew that his parents were a bit hesitant about that, but Tim was adamant to stay in contact. He also implored that if he had a Japanese pen pal, this opportunity would open up more business for the Drake Industries in Japan. After hearing about business proposition in another country, the parents finally exchanged addresses and phone numbers with one Kenji Tsukino, father of Serena Usagi Tsukino.
- Tim: Thirteen-Years-Old –
True to Tim's conviction, Tim and Serena continued to talk to one another, making their friendship stronger. However, Tim kept ONE secret from Serena… he became the third Robin to Gotham's own hero Batman. Tim found out about Batman and the previous Robins' identities when he was nine-years-old. When the second Robin died, he knew that Batman needed a Robin to balance Batman out. Training then coming back to Gotham at age thirteen, Tim felt more confident that he was a good Robin, yet he knew that his first friend, Serena, would be curious on where he went. He wasn't wrong as he made time to finally hang out with her at a burger joint, Batburger. "Tim," said a happy Serena.
"Hi, Serena," said Tim.
"Where have you been," said Serena, "I was really looking forward to hanging out with you for some time."
"Sorry," said Tim, "I was recently at the court house with my neighbor Bruce Wayne. Since my parents are indisposed after going to the Caribbean, he took up as temporary guardian over me."
"At least, you have someone to be there for you," said Serena with a smile.
Tim nodded his head, giving Serena a smile of his own. He couldn't really tell her that he was secretly a hero now, but at least, he'll try to find time to hang out with her. He, however, didn't know that he would have a small time to hang out with her as is because Serena, on her part, had something to tell Tim. Thinking about what she has to tell Tim, she took her burger in her hands and took a huge bite of it. She didn't want to think about whatever she had to tell Tim. "Hungry much," teased Tim.
"I…," started Serena before turning away from Tim.
"Hey," said Tim gently, "What's wrong?"
"D-Daddy told me that we were moving," said Serena.
"Moving," questioned Tim in surprise.
"Un," nodded Serena, "Back to Japan."
"When did you get this information," questioned Tim.
"A few weeks ago," said Serena who looked down.
"And you didn't tell me this sooner," questioned Tim with betrayal in his eyes.
"I would have," retorted Serena, "But, you were out doing who knows what. You also had that guardian trial with the courts to worry about too!"
Tim blinked slowly as he processed what she said. After becoming the third Robin to Batman, Tim knew that it was his own fault for not talking and hanging out with Serena. He was being trained as Robin from Bruce's butler/probably father figure, Alfred, Bruce Wayne himself, and recently Richard Dick Grayson, the now known hero Nightwing. Tim could see Serena upset at the thought of moving before he got up and slid next to her, placing an arm around her shoulders. "Hey," said Tim gently, "Sorry about not being able to hang out with you. So, you are moving. So, what? We can still hang out until you leave. Besides, we still have each other's phone numbers."
"You'll still keep in contact with a peasant like me," questioned Serena.
"Peasant," scoffed Tim, "You, my dear, are my first and favoritest friend in the whole wide world. You are no mere peasant."
"Dork," giggled Serena.
"At least, you are smiling," said Tim, "Besides, after you move, you HAVE to send me a letter with your new address and phone number first so I don't have to scour the computers to get them."
"Hacking, you mean," said Serena with a grin.
"Shh," shushed Tim, "Don't give away my hobby like that."
Serena giggled more as Tim and she finished their hang out together. Serena knew that she wouldn't be able to tell Tim what she really felt for him, but it was fine. She was fine being his precious friend for life. Yet, if only her heart wouldn't have stuttered in pain at the thought of only staying as friends.
- Tim: Sixteen-Years-Old –
"Tim," called out a familiar female voice.
Tim Drake, adopted son to Bruce Wayne for a year after his parents were murdered, was now in Japan. Sure, he was supposed to be staying in Gotham to help with the hero business, yet after feeling betrayed by his so-called adopted brother, Dick Grayson, he cut ties with that family and traveled towards his first friend's home. Japan was a breath of fresh air for him as he looked around the bustling airport. Hearing his name, Tim turned towards that voice to see his friend, Serena. Tim could tell that Serena grew up beautifully after three years. Gone with the baby fat, Serena wore a red halter top due to the heat and shorts that showed off her long legs. Tim gulped inwardly at how Serena looked compared to three years ago. "Serena," said Tim.
"Welcome to Japan," said Serena, "Though, you'll probably hear my name as Usagi."
"Usagi," said Tim correctly.
"Un," said Serena before wrapping an arm around his, "Let's go! We have so much to catch up on!"
"Lead the way, Sere," said Tim, unconsciously shortening Serena's name.
Holding Tim's arm with hers, Serena could definitely tell that Tim had hidden muscles underneath his red t-shirt and slacks. He was definitely not dressing up to impress as the two walked out of the airport. Serena also taught Tim how to use the Suica cards to take the subway, letting Tim understand that there are English as an optional language on the screens. As they traveled to Jūban, Serena could tell Tim really needed to vent to someone. She just hopes that she could help Tim out while balancing HER heroine life. Tim and Serena walked a bit before going to a secluded area at the park. "So, Tim," said Serena, "Why the sudden move to Japan?"
"Can't I get a vacation from Wayne Enterprises to see my favorite friend," said Tim.
"I would believe that if you had came for vacation in the past three years," said Serena, "The only times I saw you was when you were traveling with Mr. Wayne for galas in Japan."
"True," said Tim as he sighed in resignation.
"So," implored Serena.
"Do… Do you think that I made the right decision to becoming a Wayne," questioned Tim.
Serena didn't answer Tim's question as she stared at her handsome friend. She knew that Tim was keeping something from her, like the weight of the world was on his shoulders, but she hoped that Tim knew she was always there for him. Tim chuckled as he thought about everything he did for three years. He knew he still had doubts, especially taking a mantle of a hero up from his hero, the second Robin. He thought that everything was going fine until it wasn't. Bruce, or Batman, was lost in time, no one believed his theory, AND to top it off, Grayson took Robin away from him. Turning his head slightly, he could see Serena looking worriedly at him. He didn't know why, but he could always count on her to just vent and be a teenager. "Sorry," said Tim, "A lot has happened in the past three years."
"I'll bet," said Serena, "A lot has happened here in Jūban too."
"Oh," questioned Tim.
"Yeah," said Serena, "It's not like Gotham with the likes of Joker, Poison Ivy, and the other rogues, but Jūban has been hit more on the… extraterrestrial side."
"Extraterrestrial," questioned Tim, "Like Superman or Martian Manhunter like?"
"More like evil monsters and evil alien magic," said Serena.
Tim looked at Serena in surprise. He knew that he was busy being a hero, but as a hero, he should have heard about what was happening in Japan, especially in his friend's residential area. Tim tuned back in as Serena explained some of the monsters, like what a Heart Snatcher was. Those things sounded really ugly as he gasped on Serena explain what exactly a Star Seed, a Dream Mirror, or a Heart Crystal was. Essentially, Tim didn't know that the human was made up of three life essence that could be detrimental to any hero. Before he could ask for more information, a tall male with black hair and blue eyes walked up towards the two. "Usagi," said the male.
"Chiba-san," said Serena coolly.
"Have you thought about it," questioned this Chiba person.
"What's there to think about," said Serena, "You cheated on me, and don't you lie to me. I heard an unfamiliar female voice over the phone."
"You are destroying Destiny, Usako," said Chiba.
"Īe," said Serena, "You did that all on your own. And don't ever call me Usako ever again, Chiba."
The male glared at Serena before turning towards Tim. Tim was surprised to see a glare aimed at him before the mysterious male walked away. Tim could also see this Chiba's hand clenching. He didn't know what was being spoken about, due to not keeping up with his Japanese lessons, but he could guess that it was something Serena and he needed to discuss. Tim froze, however, when he saw his friend have tears tracking down her face once he turned towards her. "Serena," questioned Tim.
"Sorry," said Serena who was wiping her tears away, "T-That was my ex-boyfriend. I c-caught him cheating on m-me through the p-phone a couple days ago. H-Hearing you wanted to come h-here for vacation made me c-cheer up and forget about w-what he did."
"He doesn't deserve you if he did this, Sere," said Tim.
"I-I know," said Serena, "B-But, we were together for t-two years, a-and I-I saw my own f-future with him… a l-little girl who would l-look like me."
"Futures can always change, Sere," said Tim as he hugged Serena in comfort.
Serena just nodded her head as more tears trekked down. Tim really wanted to find this Chiba guy again and deck him with all of his might. He knew that as a hero, he shouldn't, but as Timothy Drake, best friend to Serena, he felt like he should do that as a protector of Serena, a past Gothamite. Hearing Serena settle down, Tim knew that they should head out to eat something first before resuming a tour. Tim flushed slightly as his stomach grumbled. He knew that it was also almost time for his jet lag to hit him, making him a bit sleepy as well. "Let's head out to eat before taking me to your house," suggested Tim, "Jet lag is always going to suck."
"You were doing so well, keeping awake," giggled Serena through tears.
"Coffee," grumbled Tim, "Coffee is going to help me keep awake."
"Not with this jet lag, mister," said Serena, "A nap would do you good as well. Why do you even have big bags underneath your eyes anyways? Do you have insomnia or something?"
"Or something," said Tim who smiled upward in thought.
- Later That Night –
Tim grumbled to himself as he walked along the hallway. Being up as Robin and not having a proper sleep schedule really messes with his life. He was holding a glass of water while walking down the hallway. However, he stopped short in front of Serena's bedroom as he heard a door slide open. He knew that Serena has a balcony attached to her bedroom, but surely his friend wouldn't endanger herself by keeping the balcony door locked. Tim glared a bit into the night before making up his mind. He grabbed Serena's bedroom doorknob and quickly turned it, making sure that his glass of water would be a weapon if it came down to it. Opening the bedroom door, however, gave Tim a surprise of a lifetime: Sailor Moon turning back into his friend Serena. "S-Sere," questioned Tim in surprise.
"T-Tim," exclaimed Serena quietly.
"W-What," questioned Tim who was trying to process what was going on, "H-Huh? What?"
"You said what twice," pointed out Serena.
"I mean," said Tim, "I know you said there were magical girls running around and helping to save the people of Japan, but you are one?!"
Serena sighed as she pulled Tim into her bedroom before closing and locking the door. Tim, on his part, was too shocked to notice anything as he sat down on Serena's bed. Serena, on her part, started to explain everything that happened after she moved to Jūban. She explained how a talking cat, of all things, came in the middle of the night, gave her a magical brooch, and told her that she was the magical heroine Sailor Moon. There, Serena explained about all of her battles, how much she had gotten hurt, and how much she had actually died and came back to life. Tim, on his part, was processing every little detail Serena told him. He couldn't believe she became a hero after he did, and with no training either! "Tim," questioned Serena fearfully.
"You had no training," said Tim.
"Huh," questioned Serena.
"You had no training and died," said Tim, "My best friend had no training and died in battle."
"Tim," said Serena who placed her hand gently on top of his, "Calm down. You're having a panic attack?"
"I'm having a panic attack" questioned Tim with a laugh, "I find out my best friend became a hero a year after I became one and has no training whatsoever while being thrown into the deep end!"
"Y-You are a hero," questioned Serena.
"I…," started Tim before breathing in slowly, "I am. I took the mantle as the third Robin."
"You mean," squeaked out Serena, "You became the third Robin? The cute one?"
"Cute one," questioned Tim who quirked his eyebrows together.
Serena flushed at her admittance. She had a crush on the third Robin for a while. She even still kept up with Gotham's news about that Robin and fantasized being with him. She knew the other Robins were cute, but the third Robin… the one she idolized… was the cute one in her eyes. She knew that the first Robin left and the second Robin died horribly. Yet, she never pictured her best friend… her hidden crush… as the third Robin. Tim, on his part, processed more on what Serena said before flushing himself. He could tell that Serena hid this side of her in their friendship, but if he thought about Serena like that while thirteen and still finding himself as a Robin, he didn't know if he would hurt her feelings. Now, however… "So, you thought I was cute," questioned Tim in a teasing way.
"I thought the third Robin was cute," said Serena who was still flushing.
"But, I AM the third Robin," said Tim confidently before frowning, "Before Grayson took that mantle away from me."
"Yeah, well," said Serena who frowned at Tim's slumped shoulders, "I-I also had a crush on you, Timothy Drake."
Tim's head shot up at that confession as Serena just turned away from him. He couldn't believe his ears when Serena admitted that she had a crush on him when he was just plain old Timothy Drake. He thought back to all the times they hung out together. He knew his friend was pretty, but he never considered in dating her. He knew he dated others, such as Ariana Dzerchenko and Stephanie Brown, but dating his first ever friend? He looked Serena up and down while thinking about all the times they had a lot of fun… as friends. Would that change if he took the chance to actually date his first and favoritest friend? "Tim," questioned Serena.
"I…," started Tim as he breathed in slowly, "I don't know what I feel for you or if I had a crush on you when we were younger, but… would you mind letting us try to date each other and see where it goes?"
"Tim," said Serena, "I don't need your pity and I don't want to be your rebound."
"It's not pity and you're never a rebound," said Tim with conviction, "I want to see if I do have romantic feelings for you. I want to see where this goes, especially with our identities out in the open."
"I guess," said Serena who didn't look convinced, "But, we talk to each other. Communicate."
"Communicate," whined Tim, "You know how I am with communication and feelings. Don't forget feelings."
"That's why we are trying," giggled Serena as Tim started to chuckle as well.
Tim smiled at Serena as they both yawned. It was really late, but this discussion brought a new sense of reality to Tim. He felt that as long as he had Serena, he could accomplish most things. Sure, he'll probably not be a Wayne after finding and saving Bruce Wayne through the time stream, but he probably has a new future to look forward to. Before the two fell onto Serena's bed and drift off to sleep, Tim barely able to open his eyes and walk into his own guest room, Tim caught Serena's question. "What name are you going to be while searching for Batman," questioned Serena.
"I'll be," said Tim with a thought before answering, "Red Robin."
- Tim: Eighteen-Years-Old –
Two years has passed for Tim, and what a ride it was. He found Bruce with Serena's helpful Senshi associate, Sailor Pluto, which dodged him having his spleen being forcefully taken by a group of assassins. His girlfriend, Serena, moved back to Gotham after gaining an acceptance letter to Gotham U, Tim helping her get that acceptance once they realized that Serena had a learning disorder, dyslexia. Tim took over Drake Industries, leaving Wayne Enterprises entirely, and did online studying for a degree. He still patrol Gotham as Red Robin, yet no longer banters with the other Bats through comms. He didn't want to be dragged back into a family who didn't really appreciate him. The surprising thing, however, was the Golden Crystal. It just showed up one day in front of Tim and Serena before sinking into Tim's body. Tim and Serena were still confused about that to this day, wondering if something happened to Serena's ex-boyfriend/ex-prince of Earth. Now, however, Tim was in a meeting with Bruce of all people. "So, you want Drake Industries to have a partnership with Wayne Enterprises," said Tim formally.
"That is true," said Bruce who eyed his no-longer adopted son sadly, "I want to expand both industries… together."
"Hm," hummed Tim, "The contract sounds reasonable enough."
"So," said Bruce as he saw Tim sign the contract, "How are you doing, really?"
"I am doing well," said Tim, "Online classes are alright, and I help my girlfriend whenever she needs it."
"T-That's good," said Bruce stagnantly, "Will you be coming to the manor soon?"
"Maybe for Alfred's birthday," said Tim, "My girlfriend and I are preparing for her Japanese friends to visit Carriage House."
Bruce grunted at the affirmation. Coming back from the time stream, Bruce didn't know what to do with his family. He found out he has a biological son, Damien, with a lost flame from the League of Assassin, a group of assassins that follow a deranged demon head. He had spent time with all of his sons and daughters, yet somehow… someway… Tim just slipped through the cracks. He was also surprised that Tim filed a repeal for his adoption into the Wayne family when he turned eighteen. Now, he learns that Tim has never even been into the manor unless it was for Alfred and was only in the Bat Cave for his assignments. He doesn't even live in the manor at all anymore, opting to live with his girlfriend inside Carriage House full time. "W-We miss you, Tim," said Bruce.
"Well," said Tim as he handed the contract, "Here is the contract. It was nice seeing you, Bruce, but I have a previous engagement that should not wait."
Bruce just nodded his head as Tim gathered his papers up and placed them in a briefcase. There, Bruce could only watch as Tim, one of his, leave him in the conference room they were using to go somewhere… somewhere he had no permission to pry into.
- Night: Carriage House –
"Happy anniversary, love," said Serena.
"Happy anniversary, Sere," said Tim.
Both Tim and Serena didn't dress up for their anniversary. They both realized that they would just rather have a night in and not worry about anything within their lives. Sure, Serena and Tim were still clueless about the Golden Crystal, but Setsuna, a.k.a. Sailor Pluto, told them not to worry and that all was right in the world. The couple sighed inwardly at Setsuna being all cryptic, but at least, they were enjoying themselves… together. Serena sighed happily as she snuggled into Tim's side. Tim had his arm draped over Serena, gently pulling Serena closer to him. Tim was happy that he took that chance with Serena those two years ago. He would surely be in a dark place without Serena by his side if he were to search for Bruce alone. Now, however, he was in a happy and long-lasting relationship with the girl who made him smile as a child. "Sere," questioned Tim.
"Hm," hummed Serena.
"Let's get married," said Tim.
"Tim," questioned Serena who shot up and stared at him wide-eyed.
"Well," said Tim who flushed, "We have known each other or whole lives. Even though we are still young, I can see myself spending the rest of my life with you. W-We won't get married right away, but maybe after college?"
"Y-You really want to marry me," questioned Serena.
"Yup," said Tim, "I want you to be mine… forever."
"Then, Timothy Drake," said Serena, "Get a ring first."
"Huh," questioned Tim.
"No ring, no answer," said Serena impishly.
"But, if I had a ring," questioned Tim.
"The answer would be yes," giggled Serena, "For a genius, you sure are slow."
"I'll show you slow," said Tim with a sly smirk on his face.
With that, Tim jumped on top of Serena and started to tickle her. Tim was laughing along with Serena's squeals of giggles. Tim knew that one day, the two would get married, but until he gets that ring, Serena would just stay as his girlfriend. Who knows? Maybe he'll propose sooner rather than later once he does some ring shopping. 'I'm never letting my happiness go again,' thought Tim as he quickly scooped Serena in his arms after the tickle fest and kissed her soundly and deeply on the lips.
AN: This was actually my very first time writing in the DC Universe with Tim Drake as a character. He may be out of character. I do not know since it's been a very long time since I have read/watched Batman. So, if he is out of character, I am sorry for that. m(。≧ _ ≦。)m I do, however, hope that you have liked reading this crossover fanfiction of mine. φ(..)
