Episode 110: Mantine Overboard!
Mew and her friends continue on their journey in the Whirl Islands. Now they're at Ogi City and decide to explore around the city until the next ferry arrives.
Mew happily sighs, "What a very nice day?"
"You can say that again," Misty says.
"The place looks very nice," Molly says.
"I wonder when the ferry to Red Rock Isle is supposed to come?" Jen asks.
"Well, we're almost to the docks, so we can ask someone there," Mew says.
Soon enough, the gang arrives at the docks.
Misty walks to the man and asks, "Oh! Excuse me, sir. Can you tell us when the next ferry will be leaving for Red Rock Isle?
"The ferry only runs once a day, and the ferry left a couple of hours ago," The sailor answers.
Mew and her friends are shocked to hear it.
"Oh my," Mew says.
"Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow," Jen says.
Soon, a young woman walks to the docks and notices Mew and the others.
"What are we gonna do till the boat comes?" Misty asks.
"We could go see if there's a Pokemon Center nearby," Brock says.
"Yeah," Tomo says.
"Meloett," (Sounds nice.) Meloetta says.
"Maybe we can go swimming," Mew says.
Just then, someone speaks out, "Hello there."
Everyone looks up and sees the woman who spotted them with a cart full of scuba equipment
"It looks like you guys missed the ferry for Red Rock Isle," The young lady says.
"Yes," Brock says, getting up in excitement.
"Yeah, we did," Mew says.
"We actually missed it a while ago," Jen says.
"And now, we have to wait a whole day for the next one to come," Misty says.
And then Brock quickly dashes towards the lady, "Hi, I'm Brock, and I'm a Pokémon Breeder and what is your lovely name?"
The woman introduces herself, "I'm Luka. That's interesting, Brock, because I'm studying the Pokémon that inhabit these waters."
"I can help you with your research, Luka," Brock says.
Misty then pulls Brock by the ear, making Brock yelps, "Ow! Not the ear!"
"Easy, professor. You still have a lot to learn," Misty says, annoyed and pulling Brock away."
"Well, if you want to get to Red Rock Isle today, I'll be happy to give you a lift in my boat," Luka happily says.
"Wow, could you really?" Molly asks.
"Eevee?" (Really?) Eevee asks.
Even Pikachu asks, "Pika?" (For sure?)
Luka chuckles, "No problem, it's on the way."
Brock then rushes back to Luka and takes her hands, "I knew when I first set eyes on you that you would save us all from this terrible misfortune!"
In the water, a periscope surfaces as the camera pans down to Team Rocket's Magikarp submarine.
Jessie soon notices Mew and the others, "Hey! Look who's here."
"One group of twoips, twelve o'clock!" Meowth sats.
"Yeah, and with one of them, a Pikachu and Eevee on top," James says.
They soon see Luka on screen.
"What? Who's dat? I ain't nevah seen her before," Meowth questions.
Luka soon shows the gang her boat.
"Well, here's the boat," Lucy says, "It may look a little rundown, but don't worry, it runs well and it'll get us there safely."
But Brock says, "Oh, no. It's a vision of loveliness, very much like yourself, Luka."
"Well, all aboard!" Luka says.
"Alright!" Everyone replies, and gets on the boat.
Soon enough, the boat set sail out to sea for Red Rock Isle.
Brock soon looks at her equipment, "Oh, wow! Look at this diving gear! It has a device that allows you to communicate underwater!"
"She has a lot of equipment," Misty asks.
"I wonder what she's doing with it," Mew replies.
Inside the wheelhouse of the ship is a framed piece of map of the waters between the Whirl Islands with an X on it. Soon, some of the gang comes in.
"Luka, what is this?" Mew asks.
"Looks to me like an old sea map," Brock says.
"There's some kind of mark here," Tomo says.
"I bet I know, it's a treasure map," Misty says.
"Sounds cool," Jen says.
"Neat," Molly says.
"Well, they're not too far off," Luka says.
Everyone is shocked by the statement.
"A real treasure?" Tomo asks, excited.
"You mean gold and silver?" Brock asks.
"And pearls and diamonds and things?" Misty asks.
"No, but it's very valuable. Well, at least, to me it is," Luka says.
Everyone sees another picture of a man.
"Who's that?" Mew asks.
"That's my great grandfather," Luka says.
Flashback:
Luka explains, "For three generations, my family has explored these seas researching all its water Pokémon, and it all started with my great grandfather."
Flashback: Luka's house.
Luka explains, "One day, while I was cleaning out the attic, I discovered his secret journal and this map was hidden inside. In the journal, he wrote that after twenty long years of combing the ocean floor, he had finally acquired the actual Silver Wing."
Flashback ends:
"The Silver Wing?" Mew questions.
"What's that, Luka?" Brock asks.
"You know, it just said that it's a clue leading to a mysterious Pokémon," Luka says.
Everyone ponders what she says.
"Mysterious. I wonder if it's the same one that we saw when we arrived in the Whirl Isles?" Mew says, and remembers it.
"Did you see something?" Luka asks.
"We're not really sure," Tomo asks.
"Although, I have a hunch," Mew says.
Then Misty asks, "So, what happened to the Silver Wing, Luka?"
"He was returning from a diving expedition when his ship…" Luka says.
Flashbacks:
Luka explains, "The I.S.S. Raspberry, got caught in a whirlpool and sank to the bottom of the sea. Fortunately, everyone on board survived. But the Silver Wing went down with the ship. And when he told people about it, no one believed him. According to his journal, this was very upsetting to him. The only way to convince them was to locate the sunken ship and recover the Silver Wing. But all these missions ended in failure.
Flashback: Luka's house
Luka continues, "Now it's my job to find the wreckage and clear my great grandfather's name. Based on this map and some calculations on the morning tide, I've pinpointed the exact location of the Silver Wing.
Flashback Ends:
"So now you know where it is?" Jen asks.
Then Misty says, "I get it! That's why you put the x on the map.
"Right. Between my great grandfather's map and my computer, I was able to solve an age old mystery," Luka says.
"It sounds so exciting," Mew says, Then turns to Luna, "Hey Luka, can we come?"
"Yeah. It has been my lifelong dream to search for buried treasure!" Brock says.
"I want to see this Silver Wing for myself," Tomo says.
"Me too," Jen says.
Luka smiles, "Okay then."
Everyone in the boat begins cheering with excitement. However, unknown to them, Team Rocket has listened to the entire conversation.
"Let's set sail!" Luka says.
"Full steam ahead!" Brock says.
And they know exactly what Mew and her friends are up to.
"I'm liking the sound of this," Jessie says.
"Right!," James replies, "We just have to find it before they do."
"James, have I taught you nothing?" Jessie says.
"What? We're not going to steal it?" James questions.
And Meowth says, "I know, Jess! We let dem find da treasure, den we swipe it along wit Pikachu and Eevee."
"Very good, Meowth. I can see that you've been paying attention. Minimal effort with maximum profit, that's the Team Rocket way," Jessie says.
"That's so lowdown and rotten! I love us!" James happily says.
"Wobbuffet!" (As do I!) Wobbuffet says
Back on the surface….
"We're getting close," Luka says.
"So, do we just dive in and swim to the ship?" Mew asks.
"Yes, but that'll be the easy part," Luka says.
Everyone is confused.
"Are you gonna have trouble finding it?" Misty asks.
"Not really, but I'll need some extra help," Luka says.
The group becomes confused.
Later, Mew and Luka change into their diving suits.
Luka calls out, "Okay, Magikarp, let's do it!"
And three Magikarp come out of their Pokeballs.
"Now I know what you mean," Mew says.
She then calls out, "Go Feebas! Dratini! Lapras!"
And soon, Shiny Feebas, Shiny, Dratini, and Shiny Lapras come out of their Pokeballs and into the water.
Brock salutes, "Good luck, you guys. We'll keep an eye on the boat for you."
"Yeah. We'll do our best," Tomo says.
"Be careful," Misty says.
"We will," Luka says.
Then turns to Mew, "Mew, you ready?"
"Yeah!" Mew says.
Then turns to Pikachu and Eevee, "You guys stay and help watch the boat."
Pikachu and Eevee nod their heads in reply.
Soon, Mew and Luka put on their mask and breather ready and dive in.
"We'll be back," Mew says.
"All set?" Luka asks
"Yep," Mew says.
"Let's move!" Luka says.
Soon, Mew and her friends, including Pokemon, dive under the water. Mew holds onto her Febass while Luka holds one of her Magikarp. And soon see the undersea life.
"This is beautiful," Mew says
Soon, Brock radios in, "Hey, Mew? Guys? So, how's it looking down there?"
"It's amazing," Mew says.
Soon enough, they come across a sunken ship.
"Look at that, Luka," Mew says.
"It's the ship! Follow me!" Luka says.
"Right," Mew says.
Everyone swims toward the ship, but soon stops.
Febass talks to Mew in concern.
"Febass told me something's or someone else is here," Mew says.
Luka turns to her Magikarp, "Magikarp, go take a look."
"Dratini, you too," Mew says.
Magikarp and Shiny Dratini swim towards the ship and soon a Pokemon known as a Mantine swims by.
Mantine is a large, ray-like Pokémon. Its body is dark blue on the overside, and it has large wing-like fins, with a black ring-shaped mark on the top of either fin, and a jagged outline on the front rim at the bottom. Its head has two long protrusions resembling horns or antennae, and two more black ring-shaped marks on the back. Two pairs of gills are visible on its pinkish gray underside, as well as a pair of beady eyes and a small mouth.
Along with three Mantykes
Mew becomes surprised, "Whoa! A Mantine! And three Mantykes!"
Back on the boat…
"Did you say Mantine?" Brock asks.
"And Mantykes?" Jen adds.
"Pi? Pika Pika?" (Huh? A Mantine?) Pikachu asks.
"Amaura," (And three Mantykes.) Amaura adds.
Misty gets out Mew's Pokédex
Dexter says, "Mantine, the Kite Pokémon. A Water and Flying Type. Mantine swims about the ocean majestically and may fly out of the water if it gains enough speed."
"Mantyke, the Kite Pokemon, and the pre-evolved form of Mantine. A Water and Flying Type. Mantyke are friendly toward people and will approach boats closely. The patterns on their backs differ depending on their habitat."
The Mantine proceeds to scare off the Magikarp and Dratini before returning to the ship while the Magikarp return to Luka, while Dratini returns to Mew.
"You're okay," Luka reassures.
"There there Dratini," Mew says.
Luka turns to Mew, "The Mantine seems to be guarding the sunken ship. I'm afraid if we get any closer, it's bound to interfere."
"I think we're going to need a plan," Mew says.
Soon, Mew and Luka return to the ship.
"If you can't get near the ship, then how will you recover the Silver Wing?" misty questions.
Then Luka suggests, "How about this? We'll have Magikarp distract the Mantine, and then we can sneak inside the ship and search for the Silver Wing."
"Smart plan," Brock says.
"It would also help if I go distract the Mantyke," Mew says.
"We can help too," Jen says.
Then Mew turns to her buddies, "And we'll need Pikachu and Eevee's help.""
"I get it. Mantine and Mantyke are water Pokémon," Brock says.
"So an electric Pokemon like Pikachu has a big advantage," Misty says.
"And Eevee can use Thunderbolt too," Molly says.
"That's right," Mew says.
Luka says, concerned, "It sounds very dangerous."
"Don't worry. Pikachu and Eevee's Thunderbolt can do that job," Mew says.
"Pikachu!" (It sure can!) Pikachu says.
And Eevee says, "Eevee Eevee!" (You can count on us!)
A bit later, Pikachu and Eevee are ready to dive, as are the rest of the divers.
"Pika." (Not bad.) Pikachu says.
Then Eevee says, "Eevee," (And it fits.)
"You're looking good, guys," Brock says.
"Pika!/Eevee!" (Thank you!) Pikachu and Eevee say.
Luka turns to Mew, "Don't do anything dangerous."
"Okay," Mew says.
Luka and Mew dive in the water except for Pikachu and Eevee.
"Pika Pika." (Wish me luck, guys.) Pikachu says.
"Yeah, we're all rooting for you," Tomo says.
"Pikachu, Eevee, I know you'll make us proud," Misty says.
"Good luck," Molly says.
Soon, Pikachu and Eevee dive in and are amazed of what they see.
"It's great down here, isn't it?" Mew asks.
"Eevee," (It is.) Eevee says.
Soon, they head toward the ship.
"Okay, I'll go this way," Luka says.
"We'll meet you inside," Mew says.
Luka turns to her Pokemon, "Magikarp, follow Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee.
The Magikarp agree.
"Alright, guys, let's move in," Mew says.
The Pokemon agree.
Soon, the Mantine and Mantykes are spotted.
"There they are," Mew says.
"Okay. Now!" Luka says.
Soon, Luka and her Magikarp move into position while the Mantine and the three Mantyke go after the distraction team.
Soon, Pikachu is knocked off his Magikarp.
"Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
The Magikarp comes to Pikachu's rescue while the Mantine pursues.
Meanwhile, Luka is able to sneak in, but spots something in the way.
"Oh no!" Luka says, worried.
"Pikachu, grab on to Mantine!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu agrees and soon manages to get on it.
"Alright, Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Mew calls out.
However, before the attack can launch, a Water Gun stops him.
"Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
Mew turns her head, "A Water Gun attack?" And soon spots the Remoraid, "A Remoraid?"
Inside the ship, Luka's flashlight reveals that the shining objects were Remoraid eyes.
"Remoraid!" Luka says, shocked.
The Remoraid fires a Water Gun and nails Luka and Magikarp, sending them out of the ship before she sees the distraction team leading the Mantine around with the Remoraid following it. Soon, the Mantykes begin to attack as well.
"What's that Remoraid doing?" Mew asks.
"Mew. Move away from the ship," Luka says.
"Alright," Mew says.
Mew, Luka, and the Pokemon swim away while the Mantine, Mantyke, and Remoraid stop.
"You were right, they stopped chasing us now," Mew says.
"Yeah. Let's go up and take a break," Luka says.
As the divers head to the surface, Team Rocket watches on.
"What's this? I don't believe it!" James exclaims, "They didn't come within a nautical mile of that treasure!"
"Dose stinking, good for nuttin…" Meowth says.
Soon, Wobbuffet appears, "Wobbuffet!" (Do-gooders!)
"We didn't mean you," Jessie says and recalls Wobbuffet to the Pokeball, " I'm impressed. That Mantine is one tough customer. Same with the little Mantykes."
"You're right. Did you see how it completely blew those twerps right out of the water? I think it even injured one of them," James says.
But Jessie says, "Hold on. It seems that we've had our eyes on the wrong prize. We don't need Pikachu and Eevee."
"I gotcha! We wanna capture dat Mantine foist! And then the Mantyke!" Meowth says.
"Alright, then. Now it's out with the minimum effort, maximum profit plan, and now in with the slightly more work than before but still pretty good plan!" Jessie says.
"Roger!" James and Meowth say.
"Wobb-uffet!" (Aye, captain!) Wobbuffet says.
Then Jessie says, "Hey! I told you, there's only room for three of us, now shove off!"
"Mantine, Mantyke, and Remoraid?" Misty replies.
"We didn't count on them showing up," Brock says.
"That's for sure," Mew says.
"And now we have to figure out a way to get rid of them," Tomo says.
"Or we'll never find the Silver Wing," Luka adds.
And then Misty has an idea, "I know! We can use all of my water Pokémon! They'll be perfect for this."
Then Mew says, "And I got my water Pokémon!"
Mew then calls out her Totodile, Shiny Dratini, Shiny Febass, Shiny Lapras, and finally her Lugia.
"Wow Mew, I didn't know you had a Lugia," Luka says, amazed.
"Thanks, and he's a real sweetie," Mew says.
Soon Misty gets dressed in her wetsuit, "Now watch as Misty the water Pokémon trainer transforms into a courageous fighter! Staryu, Corsola, Magikarp, Frillish, help me out!"
Soon, Staryu, Magikarp, Frillish, and Corsola come out, and Psyduck comes out.
Misty rolls her eyes with a smile, "Alright Psyduck, you can come too."
Psyduck happily says, "Psy!" (Yay!)
"We'll come too," Tomo says.
Tomo also calls out Sealeo, Wooper, and Aqua the Squirtle.
"Yeah!" Jen says.
Jen also calls out with Quagsire.
Tomo and Jen also get in the wetsuits as well.
Everyone dives down in the water back to the ship. Just then, they notice something out. They see the Mantine, three Mantyke, and the Remoraid attacking Team Rocket's submarine.
Jessie calls out, "Hey! What're you doing?! Grab it already! Don't you know how to work this thing?!"
Mew and the others approach and watch the battle.
"Team Rocket?" Misty questions.
"What are they doing here?" Jen questions.
"Trouble, that's what," Tomo says.
"Maybe, but since Team Rocket is keeping them busy, we can get inside the ship. This is our chance to sneak in," Mew says.
Everyone starts to search until Luka finds something.
"What's this?" Luka asks.
What Luka finds is a whole bunch of Remoraid.
"More Remoraid?" Luka questions.
"Looks like baby Remoraid," Mew says.
"Look at em all! "Misty says.
"They're so cute," Jen says.
"So those other two were the parents," Luka says. "That's why they were guarding this place.
"I see why the Remoraid are protecting their family, but why is the Mantine protecting them?" Tomo asks.
"I'm not sure," Tomo says.
"Actually, I think they have a partnership, what was it that Professor Oak called it, symbiotic relationship. They all depend on each other." Mew says.
Meanwhile, outside the ship, the Mantine continues to batter Team Rocket's sub.
Jessie calls out, "Stop all that relentless pounding! I can't open the latch!"
Soon, the pounding stops.
"Hey, it musta hoid ya," Meowth says.
"Well, it's about time. Now let's head straight for the treasure!" Jessie says
Soon, the sub darts towards the ship and smashes in. The gang soon hears and feels their entrance.
"What was that?!" Misty asks.
"Sounds like something bang into something," Tomo says.
The school of baby Remoraid scatters, revealing the chest on the other side of the room.
"Luka, look!" Mew points out.
Luka picks up the chest, "The treasure chest!"
"We found it, Luka!" Misty says.
The Silver Wing has to be inside," Mew says.
Just then, they spot the face of Team Rocket's sub peeking in at them.
"What is that?" Luka asks.
"It's Team Rocket!" Mew cries out.
Just then, Team Rocket's laugh, "Behold!"
The eyes of the Magikarp project a film onto the wall of the ship. And with that, Team Rocket begin to perform their motto.
Jessie:
Lights, camera, and prepare for trouble!
James:
Like the feature? We'll make it double!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light.
James:
Surrender now, or prepare to fight!
Meowth:
Meowth! Dat's right!
Team Rocket:
The end!
The movie cuts off.
"Team Rocket!" Tomo and Jen call out.
"Eevee Eevee!" (Not you again!)
On the monitor, Meowth notices, "Well, look at dat."
"The treasure chest!" James happily cheers.
Jessie chuckles, "We'll take that off your hands."
"And put it into ours," Meowth says.
"Enough chatting. Thank you" Jessie says.
Soon, the sub extends the mechanical arm. The arm snatches the chest from Luka's hands as Meowth laughs.
"And now that's, a wrap!" James says.
"We really treasured our time together," Jessie says.
"Bye-bye!" Team Rocket says.
"Let's go!" Mew says.
Team Rocket soon returns to the open sea.
"And now for that Mantine and Mantykes," Jessie says.
": Jess, what are your thoughts on quitting while we're finally ahead?" James advises.
But James says, "Never!"
Mantine soon rams into Team Rocket's sub as the Mantyke fire their Bubble Beams at it.
"Good going, Mantine!" Mew cheers.
"You too Mantyke!" Jen adds.
"Oh yeah? Take dis!" Meowth says.
With the press of a button, Mantine.
"Finally! An internet poichase that actually woiked!" Meowth says.
Jessie and James cheer, "Yay, for us!"
"Mantine!" Mew calls out.
However, the Mantine is quickly freed by the Remoraid parents and the Mantykes.
Two more Water Guns from the pair knock Team Rocket back.
"I see. The Remoraid help the Mantine and the Mantine helps protect their family. Amazing," Luka says, and turns to Mew Like you said, these two Pokemon seem to exist in symbiosis."
"That means they live together, helping each other out," Mew says.
But Jessie says, "Thanks for the biology lesson, teach, but now we'd just like to help ourselves."
Soon, a net fires and ensnares both Mantine and the Remoraid parents.
"They need help! Go, Totodile! Lugia!" Mew calls out.
Totodile and Lugia swim forward.
"Staryu, Corsola, help out, too!" Mew calls out.
"You too Quagsire," Jen says.
Totodile, Lugia, Staryu, Corsola, and Quagsire try to free Mantine and the Remoraid, and are soon able to free it.
Seeing what happened, Jessie says, "Our catch may be gone and our sub may be dented, but at least we have the treasure."
"Shouldn't we just slink off now?" James asks.
"Ready when you are," Meowth says.
"You want to take the coward's way out? Okay. But I want to see some pedaling," Jessie says sternly.
Soon, the sub turns tail and retreats.
"They're getting away!" Tomo says.
"No they're not," Mew says.
Team Rocket continues to escape.
"Oh, no. They're moving too fast!" Mew says.
Soon, Mantine shows up with the Remoraid parents and the three Mantyke.
"What is it, Mantine?" Mew asks
Mantine soon tells Mew to hop on its back.
"Alright, let's go, then!" Mew says.
Ash grabs on as Mantine zooms ahead before Team Rocket spots them.
James notices, "Twerp on a Mantine! Well, now I've seen it all."
"Tink dey're still mad about da treasure chest?" Meowth questions.
"Forget them and pedal!" Jessie demands.
Mantine soon swims alongside, allowing Pikachu and Eevee to slide down its right fin and knock on the eye of the sub.
"Someone's there?" Jessie says.
"We have a visitor?" James says.
"I'll get it. You wait here," Meowth says.
Soon, Pikachu and Eevee appear on the periscope.
They both say, (Hello.)
Team Rocket panics as Pikachu and Eevee start sparking before he completely destroys the sub, sending Team Rocket blasting out of the ocean
Team Rocket cries out, "Team's Rocket's splashing off again!"
The treasure chest is soon seen to be falling as Ash, Pikachu, Eevee, and Mantine surface
"The treasure chest!" Mew cries out.
Mantine then leaps out of the water and glides through the sky, allowing Mew to catch it.
"And the Silver Wing!" Mew calls out.
"Pi Pikachu!" (It's safe at last!) Pikachu says.
"Eevee!" (Finally!) Eevee adds.
The rest of the diving team celebrates.
Later that evening, Mew and her friends begin to say their farewells to the Pokemon.
"Thank you, Mantine and Remoraid!" Mew says.
"We couldn't have done it without you," Misty says.
"Yes, thank you," Luka says.
"And don't worry, we'll take care of their three kids," Tomo says, holding one Mantyke.
"Yeah. They're in good hands," Jen says, holding the second Mantyke.
Then Molly picks up one of the Mantyke, "We'll make sure to grow big and strong."
The Mantyke smiles and waves goodbye to their daddy. The Mantine and Remoraid say goodbye before diving back under the sea.
"Well," Luka says, as she puts the chest down.
She then opens it up.
"What's that?" Mew asks.
"It looks like another box," Luka says.
"Hopefully it's inside of that one," Brocks says.
Luka opens the box and finds a silver colored feather. Of course, Mew, Misty, Jen, and Tomo are shocked.
"Is that it?" Brock asks.
"The Silver Wing?" Molly adds.
Luka holds up the Silver Wing, and it starts glowing, amazing everyone.
"Wow," Luka says.
"Beautiful," Misty says.
"Your great grandfather's story about the shipwreck was true!" Brock says.
"Yes!" Luka says, "And now, I can prove it."
"You really can, and now I'm sure of it," Mew says.
"Sure of what?" Luka asks.
"That the mysterious Pokemon in the Whirl must be Lugia," Mew says.
"Really?" Luka asks, surprised, "Like the one you have?"
"Yeah. Mew actually has the same feather," Tomo says.
"Really?" Luka asks, amazed.
Mew reaches into her bag and shows her the Silver Feather she has received from Lugia.
"That's amazing, Mew. Now I'm sure that the mysterious Pokemon exist," Luka says. Then holds out the feather, " It also helps me with something else important. I'll study the clues from this wing, and I'll show that these mysterious water Pokemon... do exist."
The next day, the boat is seen sailing away out on the sea.
"Hey, look!" Jen says.
Brock looks out to see, "An island!"
