Dusty. That's the only way Rainer could describe the new universe he and the others were currently stuck in. The werewolf turned to Cake with a frown. He was upset with the cat for breaking the remote. He didn't even know she broke it until they made it here.

"We've been walking for miles, but I've seen no sign of the ice Kingdom." Said Simon calmly as he stared at the empty scenery. "And no sign of where to look for a crown."

Fionna looked defeated, but wanted to look on the bright side. "Hey, at least we haven't seen any vampires here." She commented.

"Oh, great! We left monster world and ended up in crapworld!" Exclaimed Cake angrily, clearly upset with Fionna.

Rainer turned his head into that of a wolf and growled at the cat who replied with an angry hiss. "Don't give me that when the girl you did nothing to help!" She exclaimed angrily, making Rainer more upset.

Simon saw this and quickly stepped in between the two. "Calm down, you two." He said calmly. "Fighting each other won't fix anything."

Rainer frowned, but obliged while Cake gave one more hiss before going quiet. Simon sighed before they started moving again until they found a decent place to set up camp. Fionna and Simon each sat on a dry looking tree log while Cake sat on the ground next to Fionna, Rainer layed belly first on the log Simon was sitting on.

Rainer zoned out as he stared at Simon. He wasn't angry with Cake because she stranded them in this world, he was angry because she ended their adventure. If the remote brought them here that meant that there was a crown in this world somewhere and they would have to find it. This was their last stop. The last moments before he'd have with Simon before they'd have to go their separate ways. Rainer quickly transformed into a lap sized wolf and layed on Simon's lap, ignoring Cake leaving with a grumpy expression. Simon saw this and started brushing Rainer's head and back with his hand.

"Guess you're tuckered out from your tussles with the vampires." Said Simon with a smile as he continued to brush Rainer's fur.

Perhaps it was selfish of him to do this instead of help look for the crown of this universe, but he was scared of what was ahead. Even with Simon's reassurance that he would be fine, he was still afraid.

Interrupting Rainer's coping mechanism was the sound of Cake screaming from a distance. Fionna quickly panicked and headed towards the source of the scream to find her cat. Rainer frowned as he got off of Simon's lap as the antiquarian followed the human girl to what looked to be a dead version of Finn and Jake's treehouse.

Simon panted as he struggled to run to the treehouse, making Rainer feel guilty for wanting to keep the run long. Surrendering to his guilt, Rainer shrunk down and headed under Simon before growing large enough for the antiquarian to ride on his back as he headed for the treehouse.

"Thanks for that. I'm not as young as I used to be." Said Simon cheerfully from atop Rainer's back.

Rainer, still in his wolf form, smiled as he dashed into the treehouse and shrunk down to a tiny size to let Simon onto the ground in front of a ladder they needed to climb. Rainer quickly jumped onto Simon's head and clung tightly as the man climbed the ladder.

"You've been really clingy lately." Said Simon worriedly. "Is everything okay?"

Rainer only whimpered in response, leaving the antiquarian to wonder what was going on before their eyes laid on a familiar little robot next to Fionna and Cake.

"BMO!" Exclaimed Simon in surprise.

Rainer was surprised too. BMO was here and this meant that this place WAS Finn and Jake's treehouse.

What happened to everyone? Thought Rainer in confusion. Not even the plants are around; it's as if everything...died.

Rainer quickly remembered something. Each world is a result of a wish granted by Prismo. Who would wish for a world devoid of organic life? A chill rain down Rainer's back as he realized what this world was. HE had seen the wish that made this world in the show. It was the Lich's.

Rainer internally freaked out as he sat atop Simon's head as BMO started leading them to the ice Kingdom to find the crown. Simon quickly noticed this and spoke.

"You're shaking a lot. Is there something wrong?" Asked Simon softly as he took Rainer off his head. Rainer looked all around them worriedly, causing the antiquarian to worry. "Are you still nervous about that restart thing?"

Rainer didn't reply, still focusing on the nightmare that was being stuck in a world with the lich. Simon misunderstood this worry and spoke softly. "Aw, don't worry. You've grown during this adventure." He said. "You'll do great and you'll grow more and more as a person until nothing can take you on. I'm sure of it."

Rainer whimpered in Simon's lap. Simon's words only made the werewolf more worried about the Lich. He had to protect Simon from the Lich no matter what.

Then he heard BMO say something that made Rainer tense up. "Hey! That's my friend, Jerry's place!" He exclaimed cheerfully as he pointed at what looked to be a rocky igloo. "Jerry's cool and tall and makes funny jokes."

Rainer couldn't help but believe that this Jerry was the Lich. He was tall and was the only thing left alive enough for BMO to talk to. No matter what, he couldn't let Simon enter that place.

For the rest of the trip, Rainer really didn't do much other than vigilantly watch the direction where Jerry was in his wolf form. He didn't pay attention to where they were going or why they were going there or even Fionna picking up a certain crown. He only focused on the Lich.

Once they were just outside the candy kingdom's castle for a reason Rainer didn't bother to know, He quickly transformed back into his human form which surprised BMO.

"Woah! You can turn into a person?" Asked BMO cheerfully in surprise. "I've never seen a wolf turn into a person before, but I have seen people turn into wolves. Wait- are you a wolf that can turn into a person or a person who can turn into a wolf?"

Rainer paused, not expecting the question before flashing two fingers to BMO. Cake took down his hand and spoke.

"Oh, he's just a derpy werewolf." Said Cake nonchalantly.

"Ooh! Hi, derpy werewolf!" Said BMO innocently.

Rainer didn't reply to that and pulled out his drawing tablet and writing. "I'll stay outside. Don't ask why."

"That's ominous." Remarked BMO cheerfully, a tone that didn't fit the words he spoke.

"Alright, just don't go too far." Said Simon calmly and Rainer nodded before he climbed the castle and stood at the tallest point of the kingdom.

Rainer transformed back into a wolf and focused on Jerry's home. His eyes, his ears and his nose all focused on this one spot. Any motion, any sound, any smell. If the Lich were to ever come out, Rainer was ready to act.

Then, at some point, Simon called for him. "Rainer! Come quickly!" He said as a purple glow enveloped the room.

Rainer heard this and excitedly hopped down to the terrace of the room Simon and the others were in. They can continue the adventure! They didn't have to go their separate ways yet!

Then he saw the scene of BMO exploding into a charred mess and all hope was drained out of his soul in one swift moment.

Outside of the hollow candy kingdom.

"BMO chose to make the ultimate sacrifice for people he barely knew." Said Simon dejectedly as Cake lowered BMO into a grave. "It didn't work. But that made it no less noble. Farewell, you little miracle."

Simon threw in some comics into BMO's grave before Fionna finally filled it in. Rainer, who was in his human form, frowned as he stared at the grave. BMO was a kid, he shouldn't have died like that.

"BMO talked about that Jerry guy a lot." Said Cake dejectedly as she held back her tears, causing Rainer to tense up. "Maybe we should find him and tell him the bad news."

Rainer quickly transformed into a giant wolf and stood between Simon, Fionna and Cake and the path to Jerry's place. He growled aggressively, causing the group the jump back.

"HEY! STOP THAT! NOT ON BMO'S GRAVE!" Exclaimed Cake angrily. "BAD WOLF!"

"Rainer? What's going on?" Asked Simon in confusion.

"...is it Jerry?" Asked Fionna raising a brow.

Rainer nodded and growled, causing Cake to glare at him. "Hey! That's BMO's friend you're growling about!" She yelled angrily.

Simon was about to speak before Cake enlarged her hand and uppercutted Rainer's chin causing Simon and Fionna to freak out. Sadly, that uppercut didn't phase the werewolf at all.

"Stop! Stop!" Yelled Fionna and Simon in unison.

"Rainer, there must be a reason why you don't want us to go to Jerry. But there isn't anything else for us to do." Said Simon softly. "Please, we'll run at the first sign of danger."

Rainer whimpered before he shrunk down enough to fit inside Simon's pocket and sat on his shoulder. Cake huffed upon seeing this and Fionna sighed.

And so, they headed towards the lair of the Lich.

In front of the Lich's place.

Rainer quaked on Simon's shoulder as they walked down the stairs and into Jerry's.

"Oh, c'mon. Stop being like that." Said Cake rolling her eyes. "I bet you Jerry's as sweet as a pie."

"I don't know, Cake. I think we should still be caref- AAAHHH!" Said Simon as he walked down the stairs only to stand face to face with the Lich standing atop a mountain of bones. "RUN!"

But it was too late. Fionna and Cake were already inside. By the time they started running away, the lich had acted.

"Cease." Said the Lich calmly as a glowing green orb of light shined in his hollow left eye, causing everyone but Rainer to be paralyzed before he magically pulled them towards him.

Rainer saw this and jumped off of Simon's shoulder and grew in size. He growled at the Lich and stared at him carefully as he stood protectively in front of Simon and the others.

"Ice wizard." The Lich said noticing Simon as his hand lit up with green flames. "So you have risen again. Hehe. In olden days I would have rewarded your insolence with death a thousand fold."

Then, the Lich stopped. The flames engulfing his hands disappeared and that green light in his eye disappeared. Rainer saw this and calmed down as he transformed back into his human form. They were safe. Everything was fine.

"I think we're not in danger. He seems really depressed." Said Simon calming down.

"Rainer, I'm never doubting you again." Said Cake as she quaked in fear in a hug with Fionna.

"Yeah! Jerry's freaking terrifying!" Exclaimed Fionna in fear.

Rainer rolled his eyes at Cake before looking away as Simon spoke "He's called The Lich, The last Scholar of Golb." He said approaching the Lich. "He must've succeeded in killing all life here. But if there's no life here, there's no way for us to survive."

Then Fionna made the reveal that changed everything. SHE had the crown. Cake obviously became angry with her and the two argued as Fionna didn't want Simon to be cursed again. Rainer, on the other hand, knew that Simon would only last a few days or a week in this world before the lack of proper food kills him.

And Simon himself assured them it was going to be fine.

Simon then quickly set up rope connecting him and the Lich, their battery to Fionna and Cake's world and spoke. "Ready to jump back into my brain noodle?"

Before Fionna or Cake could say a thing, Rainer approached Simon causing everyone to go silent as the werewolf gave the antiquarian a tight hug. "I'll miss you." He said in a sad voice that seemed like he was holding back tears.

Silence filled the room. Fionna and Cake stared at the scene with sad frowns knowing this was their last goodbye, but Simon smiled softly. "I'll miss you too, buddy." He replied patting Rainer on before turning to Fionna and Cake who both nodded. Rainer let Simon go before the man started working the magic. "Reveal the path and grant me passage. Reveal the path and grant me passage. Reveal the path and grant me passage!"

The three dimension hoppers got ready as a portal opened on the back of Simon's head.

"Hey, Rainer. Hope we can be friends on the other side too." Said Fionna with a smile.

"Yeah." Added Cake with a nod.

Rainer heard this and couldn't help but smile a little before the three jumped into Simon's head and into their final universe.

Hope Rainer choosing to speak at that one moment had as much effect as I wanted.

Also, I have something fun prepared for the next chap.

Tell me how I did. Leave a review.

Toodles.
