Green smoke rising off his figure, the new Sonic looked at Tails with an expression that mixed both confidence and insanity. Sonic's regular red and white shoes were nowhere to be seen, replaced by a black set of sneakers with red lightning bolts and bright green buckles that appeared to be vibrating from the incredible energy in the new being.

His body remained blue in color, but he was now decked out in a black leather biker jacket and gloves that were black with red cuffs. It was a perfect expression of his cocky attitude - and that wasn't the strangest part.

For the first time, Tails got to see the freakish head the mask gave its wearer, and it was a frightening sight. Bright green in color, it had the texture of thick rubber, the ears no more than pointy triangle. Sonic's green eyes were now fiery orange in color - and giving a smile, his mouth opened to reveal oversized white teeth, perfectly polished and looking far too big to fit his head.

"Are…are you OK, Sonic?"

The new creature blinked, then chuckled.

"Are you joking? I've got the power of 100 Chaos Emeralds at my fingertips, I'm simply incredible!!!!"

Tails gulped. "Uh, maybe-"

"Ah ah ah, too slow! I gotta run!!!!"

Before Tails could even blink, Mask Sonic was back, a question mark popping above his head.

"Hey, wasn't I just here?"

Looking around, the two of them realized the scorched ground and tree branches that were alight in flames. Somehow, Mask Sonic had ran around the world in mere milliseconds.

"Looks like someone needs to grab a fire extinguisher. Ta ta!!!!"

Spinning into a twister, Mask Sonic disappeared from Tails' view. If he thought Amy was a problem, he had no idea what Sonic was capable of - and what he could possibly do next.

In the heart of Station Square, a rather portly man in an apron stood over his cart, trying to get the attention of passers by. His real name was Pete, but everyone knew him as the local vendor of Don Fachio's hot dogs, the tastiest hot dogs around. The lunchtime rush hadn't been as expected, so he needed to pick up his sales.

"Hot dogs, get your hot dogs here! Hot and tasty!"

A low rumbling of the ground could suddenly be heard - and looking under his umbrella, Pete could make out a blue and lime green twister, barreling closer and closer. The sudden surge of winds ceased, and Pete was looking at a blue hedgehog with black jacket and rubbery green head.

"Hot dogs?!?!?!? I'll take your entire stock!!!"

Lifting the cart high above his head, Mask Sonic dumped the many hot dogs into his mouth, jaw stuck out at least three feet beyond what could be called normal. Setting the cart back down in front of Pete's horrified face, a mustard yellow belt appeared around the hedgehog's waist.

"85 hot dogs in 10 seconds, a new world record!!! But I could use some chili to wash it down…"

Like magic, a huge bowl of chili appeared on the sidewalk, big enough for the hedgehog to swim in. Jumping in with a flip, Mask Sonic floated along the meaty surface on a gold inner tube, before whipping out a straw.

SLURP!!!!

In mere seconds, the huge porcelain bowl was clean as a whistle, the gallons of chili lapped up and leaving Mask Sonic with an overinflated stomach. Emitting a huge burp, his green face started to glow red.

"Ooooh baby, that's SPICY!!!! I need to cool off!!!!!!"

Steam pouring from his twister, Mask Sonic disappeared from view as quickly as he arrived. Standing there alone, Pete could only wonder how he would explain this to the boss.

Meanwhile…

Alone in Eggman's tower, Amy wanted to cry, but no tears wanted to come out. What a miserable situation she was stuck in - alone, locked in a cage, cold and tired and hungry. How foolish she was to put on that mask, how stupid of her to think she had the ability to challenge Eggman. All it had gotten her was a small prison cell in a dimly-lit room, with nothing but her own feelings to keep her company.

She had to hope. Even if Eggman's bots were in hot pursuit of the mask, they hadn't discovered it yet, at least what she knew of. Maybe it somehow made its way back to Tails, and he could be the hero she knew he wanted to be. Maybe she would be really lucky and Sonic had found it, surely he would come to save the day! He was already the fastest thing alive, that mask would make him unstoppable! And he had experience fighting Eggman, there was no chance Sonic would fall victim to his many traps and pitfalls.

Laying back down, Amy hung on to that hope. The hours were passing far too slowly, to the point where it was near impossible to determine how much of it had passed. But her white knight had to come, she just knew it.

Her hero had indeed put on the mask, but his mind was on far different things…

In the middle of the ocean, a blue and green streak tossed up the calm waters, before stopping and dumping a huge bucket of salt water over him. Finally cooled down, Mask Sonic looked at his surroundings, and began to panic.

"AHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I'm drowning!!!! Help, Navy, Coast Guard!!!!"

Sinking beneath the waters, he prepared for sweet death. It seemed to be taking longer than usual, and he finally opened his eyes. Wait a minute…

"Look at me! I'm breathing underwater!!!!"

If he had a mirror, Mask Sonic might have been surprised that he now possessed huge gills carved into his rubber green visage - but that mattered little, he had a world to explore.

"We've got to go deeper! But first, I need the proper gear."

A quick spin later, Mask Sonic was now in a skintight scuba suit and flippers. Kicking his legs, he shot down like a bullet, until the sunlight had completely disappeared.

"I can't see!!! Ah!!! Helen Keller here I come!!!!!"

A miner's helmet on his head, he switched on the light - in front of him swam several hideously deformed fish, with eyes that looked glazed over and fangs that stuck out in all directions.

"So this is what's under the sea? Boring! I ought to sue Disney, they lied to me!!!"

Sticking a giant clothespin over a nonexistent nose, Mask Sonic made his way back up to the surface, shooting at least 100 feet in the air before crash landing on the nearby beach. Brushing himself off, he admired his awesome new look. In nothing but a black and red pair of swim trunks, his arms and legs throbbed with energy - if any girls were around, they'd be screaming with glee at the stud he was.

Pulling out a chair and baseball cap, he laid down to catch some rays. All alone, nothing was going to bother his amazing day - absolutely nothing at all.
