After Alma's body had been taken away, Bruno had hurried to be with Elsa. Julieta was waiting at the door and told Bruno that he couldn't see Elsa yet since the doctor was still busy trying to mend her wound. Bruno yet again had to wait to see if his love would survive.
Bruno did not take his eyes off the door for quite awhile but then he soon began to pace and pace and pace and pace. It didn't take long for him to grow both impatient and especially frustrated.
"Ay, what's taking the doctor so long? It's so quiet and I can't stand here another minute, wanting to know if Elsa is gonna make it." Bruno said, turning to the door.
"It's not easy for any of us, Bruno. But you have to let the doctor do his job." Julieta said, also looking over at the door, frowning in concenr.
"It's so hard, Juli. My wife and child could be dying and..."
"Do not talk of that. Try to stay positive like we are doing."
Bruno nodded then he hugged his sister. Then they continued waiting. With every passing minute, Bruno's urge to open the door grew and grew. Sometimes he would stand up but Julieta would pull him back down.
Bruno leaned back in his chair, his mind on nothing else but Elsa and their baby. His fingers drummed against the armrest slowly. Then he looked down, sadly. It had to be hopeless. If Elsa and the baby were fine, he would've known by now. Julieta turned to Bruno then touched his shoulder.
"She is going to be alright, Bruno." Julieta assured.
Bruno couldn't take it anymore. He scoffed then pulled away from Julieta's touch then had stood up then slammed his fist against the wall over and over till his knuckle began to bleed. Julieta noticed then had gone over to her brother and had gently pulled him away from the wall.
"Bruno, you need to calm down."
Bruno turned to Julieta, eyes flashing in anger, causing Julieta to back away but then eye Bruno worriedly as he paced, clenching his fists.
"Calm down?! Calm down?! That's all I've been hearing from you, Juli! How can you expect me to be calm when my wife and child might be dying or are dead?! They are my world, my life! If I lose them, where would I be?! I hate not knowing! I hate that I didn't protect them! And I hate M'ma for putting them at risk! The only thing that puts me at ease is that she's dead and can't do any more harm to Elsa or our child. But...But she may have succeeded! She may have succeeded and there's nothing I can do now!" Bruno yelled.
Julieta had gone over to Bruno then slapped him. All anger Bruno felt had disappeared. He blinked in surprise then looked at Julieta. Her eyes softened then she put both her hands on Bruno's shoulders.
"I'm sorry, hermano. You weren't thinking straight. I know you are scared for Elsa and the baby but you need to at least hope that they're going to live. They will live."
Bruno took a deep breath then exhaled then he looked at Julieta, eyes flowing with tears then he shook his head.
"I don't want them to die, Juli." Bruno said, quietly.
"I know, I know."
Julieta pulled Bruno into a hug as he cried. It took a few minutes for Bruno to completely relax. After doing so, waiting for Elsa did become less tense but yet his eyes still never left that door.
Just when Bruno was starting to become anxious again, the door had begun opening and the doctor had come out of Julieta's bedroom. Bruno and Julieta had approached the doctor quickly.
"How is she doing?" Bruno immediately asked.
The doctor looked at Bruno then he smiled then touched his shoulder and nodded.
"She did lose quite a lot of blood...but I had managed to stop it and remove the bullet in time. She is a little sore...but she will live."
Bruno had smiled then he hugged Julieta then his face dawned in sudden realization. The baby. He remembered the bullet was lodged at the side of her stomach. They both couldn't feel the baby move anymore...Bruno had gone back over to the doctor, eyes widened in panic.
"Doctor, the baby, is it...is it alright?" Bruno asked, worriedly.
The doctor did not say anything. Bruno gritted his teeth then had gripped the doctor's coat then shoved him against the wall.
"Is our child alive, doctor?! I need to know...NOW!" Bruno demanded.
"Bruno!" Julieta scolded.
"About the baby...Elsa just wanted to tell you about that herself." The doctor said.
Bruno had looked confused as he let the doctor go. Why would Elsa want to be the one to tell him about their child? Did the baby survive but there were problems? Could it be that once the baby was born, she could no longer have any children?
Bruno had walked pass the doctor then had gone into Julieta's bedroom as the doctor closed the door behind him. Bruno saw Elsa sitting in bed, laying her head against the pillow. She looked tired and her eyes seemed to show a little pain but she was alert and...smiling?
Slowly, Bruno had gone over to the bed then Elsa looked up. She saw her husband and her small smile grew. Bruno had smiled back then he had made it to Elsa's side then had held her hand then caressed her cheek.
"Hi." Elsa greeted.
"I'd never thought I would be looking into those eyes again." Bruno whispered.
"Felt the same way about you."
Elsa touched Bruno's cheek then had lowered him down so that they could share a brief yet passionate kiss. When they pulled away, they pressed their foreheads together.
"When are you going to stop scaring me like this?" Bruno joked.
"Never." Elsa chuckled.
Bruno had kissed Elsa again then he had looked down at her belly. His eyes widened then he looked back up at Elsa.
"Elsa, the baby..."
"It's okay, Bruno. The babies are fine."
Bruno sighed in relief then he carefully placed his hand against her belly. He smiled affectionately at where their unborn child was growing. Then his smile faltered as he looked up and blinked owlishly. He turned to Elsa, now eyeing her confusingly.
"Elsa, did you say 'babies'?" Bruno asked, making sure he heard his wife right.
"Try to listen, Bruno. What do you hear?" Elsa asked, looking down at her belly.
Bruno also looked back down at Elsa's belly then he had laid gently laid his head against Elsa's belly, rubbing the swell, his ear against it. Bruno listened and listened. Then he heard the baby's heartbeat. No...there was another one too. Was that...a third? It couldn't be possible unless...Bruno looked over at Elsa, hopefully.
"Corazon, is there...?"
"Yes. Three heartbeats. Three babies. It's triplets." Elsa said, smiling wide.
Bruno could not believe it. At first, he feared he was going to lose Elsa and their baby, only to find out that not only was his love alive and well but that so was their baby and it wasn't one baby...there were three babies and they were healthy and going to live too.
Bruno had gone back over to Elsa then had cupped her face then had kissed her softly then had kissed her forehead then he placed his nose against hers, also smiling brightly.
"Mi carino, I've never been so happy. You are alive and so are our babies. Our...three beautiful babies."
Elsa giggled then she and Bruno had kissed again. After they had pulled away, Bruno had leaned over then he had rested his head against Elsa's belly, gently rubbing it. He soon could feel the babies moving and kicking. Bruno's heart had swelled up more.
Elsa smiled lovingly at Bruno at her belly. She then had removed the covers and then had lifted the top of her dress so that her belly was exposed. Bruno had kissed Elsa's belly, each one gentler and softer than the last. Bruno then rested his head back against her belly.
"Our three miracles."
