The Man Out of Time

Chapter 21

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader."

John Quincy Adams

The door to Class 101-A's suite swung open with a loud bang as an unexpected guest barged in. "Izuku! Are you… oh, you're not here."

Startled by the intrusion, the class turned to see Hatsume standing in the doorway, still adorned in her distinctive armor and support gear.

"Hatsume-san?" Uraraka said, her voice tinged with confusion.

"Hey there, uh... Space Girl! Where's Izuku at?" Hatsume inquired with her usual energetic flair.

Iida felt the need to correct the situation. "He's already left for his upcoming match. If you're lost, the Support Department section is in the other direction."

"He left? Ah, shoot! I came all this way to wish him luck too!" Hatsume looked momentarily disappointed but quickly found an empty seat to sit in, conveniently next to Yaoyorozu and Uraraka.

Hatsume's presence prompted questions from Yaoyorozu, who sought clarity. "Hatsume-san, may I ask why you are here?"

Uraraka echoed the sentiment, her tone carrying a note of mild annoyance. "I don't think someone from another department is supposed to be in here."

Hatsume brushed off their concerns with a cheerful demeanor. "Oh, don't worry about it! Izuku should return here after his match. So, I thought it'd be best to stay and cheer him on from this suite. That way, I can offer him encouragement if he loses and celebrate with him if he wins!"

The casual use of Midoriya's first name didn't go unnoticed, and it left both Yaoyorozu and Uraraka bristling. There was a clear sense of familiarity between Hatsume and Midoriya, one that had developed faster than they had expected.

"Hmm..." Ashido leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "It seems like you're quite close to Midoriya. Are you friends?"

Hatsume seemed genuinely baffled by the question. "Well, yeah! He's a great friend!"

Uraraka's reaction was more subtle but telling. She felt a pang of unease. 'They're getting along so well... It took me and Izuku several months before we were this comfortable with each other.'

Ashido wasn't one to back down from a potentially juicy development. "So, just friends? No romantic feelings or anything?"

Hatsume tilted her head, completely oblivious to the implications. "I don't know about all that, but hanging out with Izuku is fun. He's full of great ideas! Can you imagine all the amazing babies we can create together?"

Mineta couldn't contain himself and did a spit take, falling out of his seat. The class turned to Hatsume with dumbfounded shock, and even Todoroki glanced back in curiosity.

"Inventions!" Uraraka quickly interjected. "She's talking about her gadgets and inventions. Don't misunderstand!"

As Uraraka attempted to control the situation, Yaoyorozu couldn't help but analyze Hatsume's response. It seemed that Hatsume didn't view Midoriya in a romantic light, which brought a sense of relief to her.

Hatsume remained blissfully unaware of the tension in the room, while the class exchanged glances. The eccentric inventor had provided some interesting insights into her relationship with Midoriya, even if those insights weren't what everyone had expected.

Hatsume, completely oblivious to the curious looks she was getting, turned to Uraraka. "Hey, Space Girl, do you have Izuku's number? Or know if he's on any DM apps?"

The group exchanged glances, recognizing Hatsume's social awkwardness but also acknowledging her friendly intentions. After a brief pause, they silently agreed to help her out.

Ashido swiftly pulled out her phone. "I'll help you get in touch!"

"Oh, you have your own chat? That's cool!" Hatsume remarked with genuine interest.

Iida couldn't help but smile. "Our group is becoming quite the team."

Asui added her own touch of humor. "More like a squad at this point. Kero."

Iida, ever analytical, pondered the group's dynamics. "I wonder if we're just right or perhaps a bit too much to be considered a squad. I'll have to ask Midoriya-kun about it when he returns."

Kaminari chimed in with a smirk. "With three geniuses on our side—Yaoyorozu, Midoriya, and now Hatsume—it's going to be quite the ride."

Jiro nodded in agreement. "Brainpower won't be in short supply, that's for sure."

Sero joined in with a playful comment. "We might just have enough talented players to take over a country!"

Present Mic's voice over the loudspeakers interrupted their conversation. "I hope you enjoyed that brief interlude, dear listeners, because it's time to kick off the Quarterfinals!"

Hatsume, her enthusiasm undiminished, turned her attention back to the upcoming match. "Alright! Enough talking! Izuku's match is starting!"

"This next match features another clash between 101-A classmates! These two contestants share roots in the U-S-of-A and know a thing or two about one-shot victories!" Mic called out as the screens lit up with two names.

"First up, she may look harmless, but those flying horns will bring you up and right back down! Don't wave a red cape in front of her! Tsunotori Pony!"

The crowd cheered as Tsunotori walked onto the stage. She did a good job of keeping her composure but couldn't completely hide the sheepish smile on her face.

"Versus! The brave warrior who's taking the whole competition by storm! The perfect accumulation of brain and brawn! Put your hands together for Yo Joe himself–Midoriya Izuku!"

Midoriya stepped onto the ring and the applause he received was a few notches louder. Various "Yo Joe" chants echoed throughout the stadium. The super-soldier paid no mind to the noise as he focused on his opponent.

"Izuku!" Tsunotori called out in English. "Let's show 'em how we do it in America! Kay?"

A small smile crossed Midoriya's freckled face as he nodded in return. "Let's make our country proud."

"Are both combatants ready?" Midnight waited for both fighters to nod. When they did, she lifted up her flogger-whip. "Then let the first match in the Quarterfinals…BEGIN!"

Tsunotori wasted no time. She detached two pairs of horns and launched them at her opponent. 'No room for playing around. I need to push him out fast!'

Midoriya kept his eyes on the approaching projectiles and gracefully leaped into the air, letting the horns sail harmlessly beneath him. Tsunotori mentally guided the horns to change course and come at Midoriya from different angles, trying to keep him on the defensive and create an opening to force him out of bounds.

The war veteran relied on his exceptional reflexes and experience to evade the incoming horns. He executed a mesmerizing combination of flips, rolls, and jumps, showcasing his incredible flexibility and reflexes to the audience, especially the Pro Heroes in attendance.

After a brief exchange of dodging and weaving, Midoriya unleashed a lightning-fast, powerful hand strike that shattered one of the horns. He continued to systematically break the remaining horns one by one, all while maintaining his acrobatic performance.

Tsunotori responded by launching four more horns at Midoriya, altering her attack pattern. Her goal was not only to defeat her opponent but also to keep him at bay. While she wasn't weak in close combat, she knew she couldn't match the super-soldier's strength up close. Her strategy was clear: maintain distance and attempt to force him out of bounds.

Midoriya responded with a relentless barrage of rapid punches, chops, and palm strikes, effortlessly shattering the incoming horns. Tsunotori, desperate to find an advantage, continued to launch more horns, trying to keep him at bay.

Meanwhile, in one of the waiting rooms, Kendo couldn't tear her eyes away from the TV screen, captivated by Midoriya's agile movements. 'Wing Chun? Is he using that martial art too?' She observed intently as the green-haired student skillfully broke the airborne horns with his bare hands. 'Maybe he truly does know every martial art.' A fascinated grin crept across her face.

Back on the field, Tsunotori grew increasingly frustrated as Midoriya continued to break her horns. 'This isn't working. I need to change my approach.' Determination welled up within her as she made a split-second decision. "Izuku, get ready for this! Thunder Horn!"

Tsunotori unleashed a barrage of horns from her head.

In the blink of an eye, Midoriya sprinted toward the oncoming salvo. The audience gasped in disbelief. Why was Midoriya charging headlong into the incoming storm of horns? Was he trying to get himself impaled?

To most, he appeared as a blur, but his superhuman reflexes and enhanced cognitive abilities allowed him to process the situation rapidly. He calculated the trajectory of each horn within the cluster, mapping out his path with precision.

As he descended, his left foot landed on one horn, and he used it as a springboard to propel himself forward, landing on another with his right foot. The sequence continued as Midoriya skillfully hopped from horn to horn, resembling someone traversing stepping stones in a turbulent river.

Tsunotori could only gasp in amazement. 'No way!'

After landing on yet another horn, Midoriya reached out, firmly grasping it. In one seamless motion, he hurled it back toward Tsunotori, who barely had time to react. The crowd watched in awe as Midoriya's unexpected maneuver turned the tide of their battle.

The equine-like girl couldn't react in time as the object struck her hard in the temple.

"AAWWK!" Tsunotori was forced to cease her attack, stunned by the hit.

Midoriya dropped and landed on his feet as all of the horns clattered to the ground. He saw his opportunity and acted swiftly. While his opponent was still reeling, he dashed forward, leaping over her. He landed behind her, his superhuman agility allowing him to do so without missing a beat. With lightning speed, he reached out and grabbed Tsunotori by her horns, simultaneously wrapping his powerful legs around her, effectively pinning her arms to her sides.

"Eep!?" Tsunotori yelped in surprise.

With nearly 110 kilograms (~242 lbs) of super-soldier added onto her back, Tsunotori immediately collapsed. Midoriya's body provided some cushioning, but her arms were firmly pinned by his thick, muscular legs, and her horns were locked in an ironclad grip.

Tsunotori squirmed, desperately trying to break free, unwilling to admit defeat. However, as Midoriya began to tighten his leg hold, she quickly realized the futility of her struggles.

"AAAWWH!" The pony-girl couldn't suppress a painful cry as the pressure increased. It felt as if she were being constricted by a python. 'His legs are like logs... It's too much!' She shouted inwardly.

Midoriya's voice cut through her pain. "Pony. Yield."

With her arms pinned and her Quirk nullified, Tsunotori had no other choice.

"I...surrender..." Tsunotori gasped out.

Midnight raised her whip. "Tsunotori has conceded defeat! Midoriya advances to the Semifinals!"

The crowd's cheers grew even louder, with chants of "Yo Joe" echoing throughout the stadium.

Midoriya immediately relaxed his legs and released his hold on Tsunotori. "Are you alright, Pony?" He extended a hand to help her up.

Tsunotori let out a relieved sigh but maintained her smile. She accepted his hand, allowing him to pull her back to her hooves. "Yeah, I'm okay," she replied in English. "Congrats on the win, Izuku! I'll be cheering you on."

Midoriya smiled warmly and nodded. "Thank you, Pony."

"And there you have it, folks! GI Midoriya secures his spot as our first semifinalist! An astounding victory yet again!" Present Mic's enthusiastic voice echoed through the stadium amid thunderous applause. "Eraser, care to share your insights on this match?"

Aizawa nodded as he considered the question. "Midoriya continues to impress not just with his power but with his exceptional strategic thinking. He didn't just win; he outmaneuvered Tsunotori brilliantly, clearly anticipating her every move. These bouts emphasize the significance of well-rounded combat training alongside Quirk utilization. There are moments where relying solely on one's Quirk won't guarantee victory."

Tsunotori listened to her professor's critique, taking it in stride.

"Well put, my bandaged buddy!" Mic responded with enthusiasm, earning an eye roll from Aizawa. "Let's not forget to give credit where it's due. Tsunotori Pony gave it her all and put on a fantastic show for us today!"

The audience responded with a round of applause, which brought a slightly embarrassed but grateful smile to Tsunotori's face. Her adorable expression endeared her even more to the crowd.

As Midoriya and Tsunotori strolled back, the topic of her potential inclusion in his combat lessons came up. Midoriya encouraged her, highlighting the advantages her equine-like physique could offer, especially her powerful kicks. Tsunotori's eyes lit up at the prospect, and she eagerly accepted his offer for lessons in kick-centric martial arts, possibly alongside Iida.

Tsunotori had taken Aizawa's broadcast critique to heart. Over the past few weeks, she had dedicated herself to honing her Quirk and body but realized that her combat skills still needed improvement. She was determined to catch up.

Upon entering Class 101-A's suite, they were met with a surprise – Hatsume Mei was sitting with their friends. Midoriya's greeting was momentarily confused. "Hatsu–uh, Mei?"

Hatsume greeted him with her usual enthusiasm. "Great job out there, Izuku! Oh, and by the way, I've joined your team!"

"Squad," Asui corrected.

Iida's curiosity kicked in. "Actually, Midoriya-kun, do we have too few or too many members to be considered a squad?"

Midoriya, drawing from his knowledge of the US Army's organization, answered, "Well, it varies, but typically a squad has around 7 to 14 members. So technically, we would be classified as a squad."

Hatsume cheered, "Izuku Squad it is!"

Midoriya sighed. "Let's not call it that." He then warmly greeted Hatsume, "But welcome to the team, Mei. Having someone with mechanical expertise will be a valuable addition."

"Maybe you can give Iida a tune-up sometime," Kaminari playfully suggested.

A few students chuckled at the remark, while Asui let out a contented croak. However, Iida was unamused, crossing his arms. "I don't understand what's so amusing about that."

Kaminari leaned closer, his curiosity piqued. "Wait... Can you actually get a tune-up?"

Hatsume's eyes gleamed with interest as she turned her attention to the tall, bespectacled teen. "Oh, that's a fascinating idea! Tell me, Glasses, what secrets lie beneath the surface? Do your calves have compartments for upgrades? Are there modification possibilities?" She licked her lips in excitement.

Iida blushed, feeling a mix of embarrassment and bewilderment. He quickly shifted his seat, putting more distance between himself and Hatsume. Despite his efforts, Hatsume scooted closer, drawing even more laughter from the group.

"How are you feeling, Pony-chan?" Kaminari inquired, patting the empty seat beside him for Tsunotori to sit.

Tsunotori took a seat next to him, her face reflecting a mixture of emotions. "Oh, I'm fine. It stinks to lose," she admitted with a nonchalant shrug, "but I'm still satisfied with how I performed today."

"You should be!" Kaminari chimed in enthusiastically. "Heck, I'm sure you'll get plenty of offers from the Pros."

Tsunotori smiled at the encouragement. "I hope so."

While this went on, Midoriya reclaimed his seat between Yaoyorozu and Uraraka.

"Congratulations on your victory, Izuku-kun," Yaoyorozu smiled warmly.

"Absolutely!" Uraraka chimed in enthusiastically. "You've made it to the Final Four! That's incredibly cool!"

Midoriya acknowledged their well-wishes with a grateful nod and a smile. "Thank you. It means a lot to me." He couldn't help but glance up at the onscreen brackets, where Tsunotori's name had been grayed out, marking his own advancement to the Semifinals bracket. 'Just two more fights to go.'

"Bakugo Katsuki, Kendo Itsuka, please make your way to the field. Todoroki Shoto, Hatsume Mei, please report to your waiting rooms."

Hatsume, who had been occupied with her antics near Iida, perked up immediately. "Well, that's my cue!" She saluted the group with a grin. "Wish me luck, new friends!"

"Good luck, Hatsume-san!" Tsunotori waved enthusiastically.

"Iida-san, you okay?" Uraraka asked with concern, noticing the relief in his demeanor after Hatsume's departure.

"Y-Yes, I'm fine," Iida replied, adjusting his glasses and letting out a breath he didn't realize he was holding.

Midoriya gave Hatsume a reassuring nod as she made her exit. "Remember what I said earlier."

Hatsume responded with an affirmative thumbs-up. "Less telling, more showing! Got it!"

Todoroki followed a few steps behind her as they left the suite.

A short moment of silence followed inside the suite.

"Support chick is doomed," Mineta declared flatly.

"Hey, don't say that, man," Kirishima scolded him. "She held her own against that Class B guy."

"It's apples to oranges, dude," Mineta dismissively waved off. "She won't last more than 10 seconds against Todoroki. He's too OP."

Meanwhile, as Hatsume ambled down the corridor toward the elevator, she couldn't help but giggle impishly to herself. 'The first match was just the prologue. Now I can really show off my stuff!'

"And we're back, ladies and gentlemen, with a match that promises a captivating clash of contrasting styles and raw power! Hold on tight because this is one of the Quarterfinals that's sure to keep you on the edge of your seats!" Present Mic's voice resounded as Kendo and Bakugo made their way to the arena.

"In one corner, with a fiery temper that matches his explosive Quirk, he's the unstoppable rocketeer, the explosive enigma—give it up for Bakugo Katsuki!"

Bakugo took his place on the stage, met with thunderous applause from the crowd. His determination burned in his eyes as he locked his gaze onto his opponent. He was determined not to let this match slip through his fingers.

"Facing off against him, the fiery redhead with fists so massive they could pulverize mountains! Let's hear it for my personal favorite in this match—Kendo Itsuka!"

Surprisingly, the audience erupted with even louder cheers for Kendo than for her ash-blond opponent. It seemed that her strength, striking presence, and undeniable capability had won over the crowd's favor.

Unfazed by Bakugo's attempts at intimidation, Kendo shot a confident glance back at him, ready to face whatever challenges this battle would bring. She seemed poised and prepared, as if she anticipated the fight beginning before Midnight's signal.

"And here we have the fourth showdown between Class 101-A and 101-B in their Hero Course class clashes! With Class A holding a 2-1 lead so far, can Class B's Kendo level the score? Or will Class A extend their bragging rights?" Present Mic's electrifying commentary fueled the crowd's excitement to new heights.

Kendo took a moment to size up her formidable opponent. 'Bakugo is undoubtedly powerful, confident, and, begrudgingly, quite cunning. I can't afford to underestimate him,' she thought, recalling Bakugo's devastating move that had defeated Tokage while injuring his own shoulders. 'I need to wrap this up quickly. Letting this match play out would only work in his favor.' She closed her eyes briefly and inhaled deeply, calming her racing nerves.

'She might be tough, but I've already faced Mossy Head. This should be easier.' On the other side of the stage, Bakugo crouched down, hands poised behind him, ready to make his move. 'Man Hands, you better be–'

His thoughts were interrupted when he saw Kendo assume a sprinter's stance on all fours, her teal eyes locking onto his ruby-red ones. There were no words exchanged, but the challenge was unmistakable.

"Come at me," her stance seemed to declare.

Bakugo couldn't help but flash a manic grin. An adrenaline rush surged through him, the thrill of battle coursing through his veins. 'Alright, Man Hands, let's see what you've got.' He relished the prospect of a formidable challenge, knowing it would prepare him for the battles against Midoriya and, ultimately, Todoroki.

'I'll reclaim my rightful place at the top! I'll be the one closest to All Might, not anyone else.' His fiery gaze briefly flicked to the stands, pinpointing a certain stealth-foreigner. 'Especially not you.'

"I got to say Eraser, this new generation of All Stars have an intensity to them." Mic commented.

"I believe most simply call it teenage angst." Aizawa dryly remarked.

From her elevated platform, Midnight observed Bakugo and Kendo closely. "Both fighters are locked in and ready to roll!" She raised her whip, then brought it down decisively. "BEGIN!"

With determination, both fighters dashed forward without hesitation. Bakugo propelled himself with explosions, while Kendo charged ahead at full speed. As they closed in on each other at the center of the arena, Kendo suddenly enlarged her right fist, smashing the concrete beneath her feet. She scooped up several broken pieces and hurled them toward her explosive opponent.

In a swift move, Bakugo launched himself into the air, narrowly avoiding the flying projectiles. Simultaneously, he released rapid-fire blasts towards Kendo. She enlarged both of her hands to shield herself from the explosions, deftly maneuvering around the ring to evade the fiery bursts. However, the concrete shrapnel stung her skin, and the deafening sound of the explosions rang in her ears.

As Kendo concentrated on evading Bakugo's relentless attacks, a dense cloud of smoke and concrete dust enveloped the arena, shrouding everything in a thick haze. Her vision obscured, Kendo stumbled over uneven and cracked surfaces. Realizing that she was running out of options, she plunged her massive hands into the concrete below and exerted all her strength.

Meanwhile, Bakugo continued his explosive assault, the detonations echoing for what felt like an eternity. Eventually, he ceased his attack and descended back to the ring, his palms crackling with latent energy. He called out to his opponent, taunting, "You asked for this, Man Hands! Hope you're not quitting already!"

But there was no response, just an eerie silence amid the dusty haze. Bakugo, not one to take chances after his previous match, scoured the cloud for any sign of his opponent.

Click. Clang. Click.

Bakugo's head snapped to the right, alert as something clattered on the ground. Without hesitation, he detonated another explosion in that direction. The forceful blast cleared away the dust and revealed a cracked and battered ring, but Kendo was nowhere in sight.

Confusion knitted Bakugo's brow. "What the–" His attention was suddenly grabbed by a flash of blue and orange from the left as Kendo unleashed an enlarged punch directly into his gut.

"BLAGH!" The ash-blond hero staggered backward, doubled over, and coughed, surprised by the sudden attack. How had she managed to approach him unseen and unscathed by his previous explosive assault?

Unbeknownst to Bakugo, Kendo had cleverly used a chunk of the ring's debris to shield herself from his explosive onslaught. Then, utilizing the cover of the dust cloud, she discreetly tossed pebbles across the ring to distract Bakugo, buying her enough time to close the gap and catch him off guard.

Instinctively, the spiky-haired hero raised his right hand to keep Kendo at bay, but she swiftly slapped his outstretched hand away. Without activating her Quirk, she followed through by striking the heel of her palm into his nose, relishing the satisfying crunch of cartilage breaking. Her attack continued as she bent her fingers into a claw shape and raked them across his face.

"AAWWKK!" Bakugo couldn't contain the sharp cry of pain as he felt the searing agony in his skull. Realizing she couldn't afford to toy with an opponent like Bakugo, Kendo spun to her right, dropped to her left knee, and braced her hands on the ground for support. She then thrust the bottom of her right foot into her opponent's right knee.

SNAP!

Bakugo howled in agony, collapsing onto his left knee, his right knee dislocated.

Kendo crouched low and swiftly swept Bakugo's legs out from beneath him, sending him crashing to the ground.

'I need to end this now!' Kendo's hands grew larger, and she clenched them together, preparing to slam Bakugo into the ground.

As Bakugo plummeted, his ruby eyes widened in a shocking realization.

He was on the verge of defeat, and not just any defeat, but a humiliating one. He was being bested by someone who wasn't even considered one of the top powerhouses in the Heroic Course.

Memories of his intense battle with Midoriya during the Battle Trials flooded his mind.

No. Absolutely not! Bakugo couldn't allow this to happen. He had already narrowly escaped defeat in the First Round against Tokage. And he still had to face Midoriya and Todoroki.

He refused to lose.

With an explosive roar, Bakugo raised his left hand, unleashing a massive, overpowering explosion that collided head-on with Kendo's fists.

KA-BOOM!

The tremendous force of the explosion partially embedded Bakugo into the concrete floor, while Kendo was sent hurtling back across the ring.

Despite the ringing in her ears and the burns on her hands, Kendo managed to spin gracefully in midair, landing in a crouched position with her gym uniform tattered and scorched.

She winced from the pain but maintained her focus. 'I'm still standing. I can still...'

"Kendo, you stepped over the line!" Midnight's voice interrupted her thoughts, and Kendo glanced down to see her right foot had indeed crossed the marked boundary.

Frustration welled up within her, and she clenched her partially burned hands. 'Damn it...'

Midnight announced, "By ringout, our winner is Bakugo!"

The crowd erupted into applause, and Kendo sighed in disappointment. Mic chimed in, sounding equally let down, "It looked like Kendo was on the verge of an upset with those killer melee moves, but Bakugo's explosion sent her just over the line. Bakugo advances...good job, I guess."

Aizawa couldn't help but chide Mic, "Stay unbiased, Mic."

Struggling to push himself out of the shallow hole he created, Bakugo felt lightheaded and mumbled through his battered nose, "D-d-dammit..."

Standing up shakily, he winced from the pain in his right knee and his injured nose. Despite the win, he couldn't shake the feeling of dissatisfaction. It was another victory based on technicality, just like the Castle Node incident.

He clenched his fists tightly, trembling with frustration. 'Not again! Dammit!'

"You two!" Midnight called out firmly. "Go see Recovery Girl ASAP, especially you, Bakugo. She'll need to take a look at that nose and knee."

Kendo nodded in agreement. "Yes, ma'am,"

"Fine." Bakugo said tersely.

Midnight shifted her attention to Bakugo. "Do you need the medical bots to help you to the infirmary?"

"Hell no!" Bakugo exclaimed. "I can get there fine on my own."

With that, the two fighters left the stage, heading toward the nearest tunnel. There was a noticeable distance between them.

Kendo couldn't help but glance back and notice Bakugo's limp. "Are you sure you don't need any help?"

"Of course I am! Mind your own damn business!" Bakugo snapped.

Kendo groaned, rolling her eyes. "Tone down the attitude. I'm just trying to help."

"I didn't ask for help!" Bakugo retorted. "You may have gotten a few good hits on me, but don't think for a second that it makes me weak!"

Kendo frowned, her concern genuine. "Needing help every once in a while doesn't make you weak."

"All Might never needs help. I'm going to be a Hero who doesn't rely on anyone else. I'll be the undisputed champion when it's all said and done!"

Kendo countered, "Then I guess you don't need to visit Recovery Girl then, huh? You know, since you don't need to rely on her to fix that broken nose and bum knee?"

Bakugo lowered his gaze, unable to come up with a response. He turned away, muttering, "Shut the hell up, Ginger."

Kendo smirked victoriously. "I'll see you in the medical ward then. Try not to trail behind too far, Mister Undisputed Champ." She walked ahead down the corridor.

Alone, Bakugo leaned against the cool wall, taking several deep breaths. His expression shifted, showing a hint of vulnerability that was rarely seen. He couldn't quite grasp his emotions, so he pushed them aside for now. He needed to get healed up and ready for his match with Midoriya to assert his position as the best in class. However, a nagging worry remained about the effects of Recovery Girl's Quirk on his stamina.

As Bakugo and Kendo exited the arena, Present Mic announced there would be a short commercial break while Cementoss repaired the ring.

"Whoa… That didn't go like I thought it would," Kaminari sounded surprised.

"Kendo-san really pushed Bakugo to the brink," Kirishima grinned roguishly. "Those moves were so cool!"

"It sucks she lost, though," Ashido bemoaned. "I was really hoping she'd win."

"What were those moves Kendo was using?" Tsunotori asked. "They looked different from the ones Izuku, Yaomomo, and Ochako have used."

Midoriya answered, "Kung Fu, more specifically, Tiger Style."

"Tiger Style?" Tsunotori tilted her head, confused.

Midoriya continued, "There are different styles of Kung Fu that focus on striking techniques, but Tiger Style emphasizes close-range and grappling, allowing the user to take down their opponent quickly and efficiently."

Tsunotori nodded, starting to understand. "I think I get it. She did move kind of like a tiger, especially when she clawed Bakugo in the face," she added with a grin.

Uraraka looked thoughtful. 'Grappling, huh? Izuku's Judo lessons have been useful. Maybe I can learn a style like that to pair with what he's been teaching me.'

Midoriya shifted his attention to the jumbotron, which was showing highlights from Bakugo and Kendo's match. "Even though she lost, Kendo had a solid plan in mind. Bakugo is the type of fighter you want to take down as quickly as possible. He only gets stronger as a fight progresses."

Iida nodded in agreement. "Yes, because of his Quirk. The more he sweats, the more fuel for his explosions."

Yaoyorozu, who was slowly eating a high-calorie protein bar, turned to Midoriya looking mildly worried. "This means you'll be facing Bakugo next. I know you've beaten him before, but do you think you can take him in this setting?"

Midoriya hummed in contemplation. "It won't be a cakewalk, but I have some ideas in mind."

"Mind sharing?" Sero requested.

Midoriya grinned slyly. "Where would the fun be in that?"

"BOO!" Ashido gave him a thumbs-down.

"Todoroki Shoto, Hatsume Mei, please make your way to the field. Shinso Hitoshi, Yaoyorozu Momo, please report to your waiting rooms."

Eating the last bit of her snack, Yaoyorozu stood up from her seat. "I'll be heading down then."

"Yaomomo, you remember how Shinso's Quirk works, right?" Midoriya inquired.

Yaoyorozu smiled fondly at him and nodded. "Yes. If I'm not mistaken, it's triggered by verbally responding to him. I'll be sure to ignore whatever he says."

"Good luck, Momo!" Uraraka raised a fist into the air. "I know you can do it!"

All of her friends echoed Uraraka's words, and the ravenette heiress gave them a sweet, confident smile before leaving the suite.

"And we're back, folks! Thank you for your patience. With the ring fully repaired, it's time to kick off the Quarterfinals' third match!" Present Mic's booming voice resonated over the PA system. "It's bound to be an exciting one. A clash of power and technology!"

The crowd erupted in enthusiastic cheers, their anticipation building for the upcoming battle.

Kirishima couldn't contain his excitement and leaned in closer to Midoriya. "Midori-bro, what do you think? Can Hatsume-san pull this off?"

Midoriya's gaze remained fixed on the stage, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and determination. He rested his elbows on his knees as he considered the upcoming clash. "On the surface, Mei's chances might seem slim... But truthfully, she's a wildcard. If she can evade and outlast his attacks, then her chances are better than they appear."

Asui chimed in, her observations thoughtful. "But Todoroki-san is undeniably powerful, even if he's using only half of his abilities."

Midoriya nodded. "True. Todoroki may not be going all out, but he's determined to win," he acknowledged. "If Mei wants to win this, she needs to find her own resolve."

The verdette's expression turned contemplative as he continued to watch the stage. His thoughts were a whirlwind of concern and introspection. 'I just hope I was able to inspire and motivate her in some way... or maybe I've just confused her about what she truly wants.'

He then lowered his head, lost in his thoughts. 'She never denied wanting to become a Hero, but perhaps there's more to her aspirations than I initially thought. In a world filled with so many Heroes, maybe she's searching for her own path.'

Midoriya's contemplative mood cast a shadow over him as he grappled with the complexities of Hatsume's ambitions and the challenges that lay ahead for both contestants.

In a dimly lit section of the corridor, Endeavor stood solitary, his imposing figure projecting elongated shadows. The subdued atmosphere surrounding him reflected the weightiness within his heart. He understood the significance of this moment, not only for Shoto's path but also for the legacy he was determined to preserve.

Endeavor clenched and unclenched his fists, his burning Quirk simmering just below the surface. His pride as a hero and a father had always driven him relentlessly. To see Shoto intentionally holding back, refusing to embrace his full potential, was a bitter pill to swallow.

As he contemplated his approach, Endeavor couldn't help but reflect on the past. Shoto was his masterpiece, the embodiment of years of planning and ambition. He had envisioned a hero who would surpass All Might, one who would carry the Todoroki name to greater heights. But Shoto's defiance, his refusal to use his fire, felt like a betrayal.

Yet, deep down, Endeavor understood that Shoto's choices were rooted in a painful history, in the scars of their family's past. He had watched his son grow and evolve, seen the strength in his convictions. The boy had become a man, and Endeavor couldn't just command him as he did when Shoto was younger.

Endeavor released a weighty sigh as he approached the end of the tunnel where Shoto awaited his turn. His formidable figure cast a looming shadow along the corridor. He was acutely aware of the need to select his words with precision, to connect with Shoto as a mentor rather than just a father.

"Shoto," he began, his voice steady but tinged with an unfamiliar vulnerability. He waited for Shoto's gaze to meet him before continuing, "I see you're about to face that Support Course girl, Hatsume."

Shoto's eyes remained locked on his father, his expression cold and distant. Silence stretched between them.

Endeavor pressed on, his tone measured, "You know, boy, there are those who will watch this match and underestimate her. They'll think it's a mere formality, an easy win for you."

Still, Shoto remained silent, his stance unwavering.

Endeavor sighed inwardly but persisted, "But you and I both know that Hatsume is a prodigy in her own right. Her inventions, her resourcefulness... They are her strength. You may have the superior Quirk, but in this arena, her genius shines. This is her match to lose."

Shoto's fists clenched, a flicker of emotion crossing his face. Endeavor saw it, a glimmer of fire.

"Even if you don't use your fire, Shoto," Endeavor stated, his words carrying a hint of genuine concern, "remember that strength isn't just measured by the intensity of one's flames. It's the choices we make and the convictions we hold that define us."

Shoto's expression remained impassive, but there was something in his eyes, a flicker of recognition.

Endeavor seemed to take the lack of reaction as a cue to leave, and he turned to go. Just before he walked away, he glanced back at his son one last time and said, "You have your reasons, Shoto, but don't let stubbornness be your downfall. The world is watching."

As Endeavor walked away, Shoto watched him walk out in the arena, his thoughts a swirling mixture of anger, confusion, and determination. The conversation had left an impact, the first step in a long and complicated journey between father and son.

Aizawa's unyielding gaze remained locked on the impending showdown between Hatsume and Todoroki. He stood there, his bandaged arms crossed, lost in contemplation as he weighed the clash of Quirks and strategies that was about to unfold. Deep within, he harbored certain expectations for this match, expectations that were shaped by a potent blend of societal bias and his own hard-earned experiences.

In a society where Quirks reigned supreme, it was all too common to underestimate those who relied on intellect and gadgets rather than innate abilities. Aizawa knew this bias intimately, having encountered it countless times during his tenure as a Pro-Hero and teacher at UA University. He had observed firsthand how people often underestimated the capabilities of those without flashy combat-focused Quirks.

His mind couldn't help but drift back to the countless battles he had fought against formidable foes boasting powerful Quirks. Villains like those who had infiltrated the USJ had posed significant threats that demanded every ounce of his skill to confront. Then there were the likes of Nomu, Kurogiri, and Shigaraki, adversaries who were exceptionally dangerous and couldn't be taken lightly.

These encounters had etched a certain skepticism into his psyche, a belief that Quirks tended to be the decisive factor in battle. He was well aware of the irony in this perspective, given that his own Quirk could nullify the abilities of others. Yet, it was a harsh reality of the Hero World, one he couldn't ignore.

As he observed Hatsume and her impressive array of gadgets stepping onto the arena, Aizawa couldn't shake the nagging notion that, despite her ingenuity and creativity, this match might be over before it truly began, with Todoroki Shoto emerging as the swift victor. This notion didn't stem from cynicism but from a profound understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals without combat-oriented Quirks.

The fact that Hatsume hailed from the Support Department and lacked any formal combat training only deepened his concerns. Aizawa couldn't help but think of Midoriya Izuku, who had defied the odds and made a remarkable showing in the games. Despite not possessing a flashy Quirk, Midoriya's augmented body and three years of military training set him apart.

His success, while surprising, had precedent.

Nonetheless, Aizawa remained keenly aware of UA University's reputation as a place where students constantly shattered expectations. With that in mind, he held a quiet hope, hidden beneath his stoic demeanor, that Hatsume's unorthodox approach might yield unforeseen and remarkable results.

With that glimmer of hope, he continued to watch the unfolding battle, his expression remaining impassive as he observed the upcoming match.

"Next up, we have the icy prodigy who's turning up the chill factor in the arena! His frosty demeanor is bound to give you goosebumps! Give it up for the one and only, Todoroki Shoto!"

Todoroki entered the ring with a subtle slouch in his posture, though the determined glint in his eye suggested anything but a desire to give up.

"And in the other corner, she's the whiz-kid of the Support Course that'll make your head spin! The gal who's got gadgets for every occasion and more energy than a lightning bolt! Put your hands together for Hatsume Mei!"

As Hatsume stepped onto the stage, the audience couldn't help but notice her updated attire. She now wore sleek gunmetal gray armor plating on her legs, torso, shoulders, and arms. Her mechanized armored glove, previously only on her left hand, had a matching counterpart on her right. What used to be her bulky Auto Balancers setup had been replaced by a Jet Pack firmly strapped to her back.

"Stop right there! Is Hatsume loading up on even more gear? Is all of that stuff approved?" Present Mic's voice boomed through the arena, addressing the sudden appearance of Hatsume's additional armor.

Midnight, perched on her pedestal, nodded in response. "It's allowed!"

In her mind, Hatsume justified her decision. 'I hadn't planned on using all these extra armor pieces, but against someone like Ice-Man, it's better to be safe than sorry.'

Present Mic continued. "Alright, we'll roll with it for now."

"Hatsume, no hijacking the broadcast this time. There will be consequences if you do." Aizawa's stern warning hung in the air as the spotlight focused on Hatsume, and she reveled in the attention.

However, Present Mic had a suggestion to keep her enthusiasm in check. "Hey, Hatsume, I'm all for the gadgets, but maybe tone down the infomercial vibe just a bit?"

Turning her attention to the press box, Hatsume grinned and gave them a thumbs-up. "Sure thing, Loudspeaker! This time, I'll let my inventions speak for themselves."

Present Mic added, "Great! How about this, Hatsume? Instead of a full-on infomercial, why not add some background music? You know, like a superhero soundtrack!"

Aizawa sighed at Mic's encouragement. "Don't encourage her."

Hatsume, however, latched onto Mic's idea with enthusiasm. She tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Music, huh? That could give my gadgets that extra punch they need to stand out even more!" Her eyes lit up as she contemplated ways to incorporate music into her gadget demonstrations. She briefly imagined herself as a hero in one of her favorite movies, battling to an epic soundtrack.

Midnight took a step forward, commanding the attention of the crowd and the fighters. Her voice echoed through the stadium's PA system as she prepared to signal the start of the match.

"Alright, folks, let's get ready for the main event!" She announced with her characteristic flair, her captivating presence filling the arena. She shifted her gaze from one contestant to the other, assessing their readiness. "Are both contestants ready?"

Hatsume couldn't contain her excitement, and her grin was infectious. "Ready!" She declared with enthusiasm, her eyes shining with anticipation.

On the other side of the ring, Todoroki's expression was focused and determined. His response was succinct but carried the weight of his resolve. "I'm ready," he affirmed, his gaze locked on his opponent.

As Midnight observed Todoroki, she couldn't help but notice a change in his demeanor. The icy exterior he often wore seemed to crack, revealing something more beneath the surface. It was a subtle shift, but it didn't escape her attention. In the weeks she had filled in for Aizawa, never had she seen so much raw emotion swirling in his eyes.

'What's going on with him?' Midnight wondered, briefly exchanging glances with Cementoss, who shared her concern from his position on the pedestal opposite her. They both understood the importance of being ready to intervene if necessary.

With a dramatic flourish, Midnight raised her whip high into the air, creating a momentary hush in the stadium. The anticipation was palpable. Then, with a resounding crack, she brought the whip down decisively.

"BEGIN!" She announced, her voice carrying authority and excitement, setting the stage for the electrifying battle about to unfold.

Immediately after the signal, the ground quaked, and an icy tidal wave surged through the ring, freezing everything in its path before Todoroki. A colossal glacier formed, stretching over the crowd and soaring through the stadium's enormous opening. The ice continued to expand, casting a colossal shadow and leaving the audience in stunned silence for the second time today.

Todoroki wrenched his right foot free from the ice with a sharp crack, exhaling a frigid mist as the moisture on his lips froze. Despite the frost covering his right side, he suppressed the urge to shiver, shaking off the icy remnants.

"Sorry. I'll free you in no..." His voice trailed off as he expected Hatsume to be trapped within the glacier he had created but couldn't find her.

Confusion turned to dread as a horrifying thought gripped his mind. 'No! Don't tell me... I only meant to... There's no way I could have lost control this badly?!' Panic drove him to take a few rushed steps forward, but he stopped abruptly as the volume of the crowd's screams suddenly intensified.

"Holy crap! Todoroki is merciless!"

"He pulled a move like that again!? He's way too OP!"

"Think Support Girl is cryogenically frozen now?"

"Someone needs to save her quickly!"

Uraraka turned to Midoriya as she and the rest of her friends prepared to reassure him that Hatsume was (probably) fine.

"Midoriya-kun," Iida urged, "I'm sure the teachers will have Hatsume-san freed very soon!"

"Yeah, what Iida said, I'm sure she's just fine," Ashido added.

"It's probably not as bad as it looks. Kero," Asui said.

"Hold on…" Uraraka cut them off, noticing that Midoriya was anything but panicked. He remained calm, even sporting a smile that seemed to grow with each passing moment as he looked skywards.

"Um, Izuku-kun? What're you…" Uraraka trailed off as she looked up and gasped at what she saw. "Whoa!"

The others followed their gaze up the towering glacier until they saw what Uraraka and Midoriya were seeing.

"Holy crap!" Ashido exclaimed, wide-eyed.

"Are you kidding me?!" Kaminari chimed in.

The rest of the class was equally amazed once they realized where Hatsume was.

"How do you miss with an attack like that?!" Mineta shouted, dumbfounded.

"She really dodged that!?" Sero was wide-eyed.

"That's so awesome!" Kirishima exclaimed.

Iida adjusted his glasses, still in disbelief. "I knew her gadgets were formidable…but still…to avoid a devastating attack like that so quickly? Remarkable!"

"She avoided Todoroki-san's attack, but what will she do now? She can't stay up there." Tsunotori mentioned.

Midoriya smiled confidently. "She'll fight."

"Unreal! Hatsume somehow made the dodge of the century by soaring high above Todoroki's icy onslaught!" Present Mic's voice reverberated through the stadium as Hatsume hung triumphantly in the air, above the summit of the glacier.

The mad genius sighed in relief and affectionately patted her Repulsor Boots. "Well done, babies! You saved momma just in the nick of time."

During the wait before the match, Hatsume had analyzed highlights of Todoroki's previous fights, suspecting he might open with a massive attack. As soon as she felt the ground tremble and crack, she simultaneously activated her boots' thrusters and Jet Pack, propelling herself into the sky moments before the icy onslaught hit.

With a keen eye on Todoroki, she used her Quirk to gauge his condition after that remarkable attack. 'Let's see… He's breathing a little harder, and there's a hint of shivering.' Her analysis didn't stop there. 'Ah! He must've exerted himself to create all this ice. No Quirk is without its drawbacks.'

'Alright then.' Hatsume's grin widened as she pulled her goggles down over her eyes. 'Let's push Ice-Man to his limits!' Leaning forward, she gracefully descended from the colossal glacier.

The audience, previously frozen in stunned silence by the sheer scale of Todoroki's ice attack, erupted into a chaotic symphony of gasps, cheers, and exclamations. Spectators from every corner of the stadium craned their necks, their wide eyes fixed on the Support Department student.

Todoroki, gripped by a growing sense of dread and panic, watched Hatsume's descent with a mix of relief and annoyance. 'She seriously avoided that attack?!' he thought, momentarily shaken from his anxiety. 'I won't miss again.'

With determination, Todoroki swiped his right arm in an arc motion, sending a salvo of ice shards flying at his opponent.

Hatsume swiftly activated the Energy Shield on her armored right forearm, causing the icy projectiles to shatter against the blue-colored projection. As she neared the ground, she leveled out and started flying horizontally.

When Todoroki's icicle volley ended, Hatsume reached for her Capture Gun from the utility belt strapped to her armored waist. She fired a net at him, moving through the air so fast that Todoroki had no time to dodge before being snared in the net. However, it was only a temporary setback for him as he quickly grabbed the net and instantly froze it before breaking out.

Narrowing his gaze up at his flying opponent, Todoroki decided to change tactics. He stomped his right foot, causing giant spiked pillars of ice, each about 9 meters high (~30 feet), to suddenly sprout out across the ring.

"Uh oh!" Hatsume performed evasive maneuvers, weaving her way through the towering obstacles of ice. However, her inexperience in flying led to some unfortunate bumps into a few icy pillars, leaving scrapes and dents in her armor.

The mad inventor winced from the hard impacts. 'Ow! Note to self, upgrade the flight software...and actually practice some more...'

After a few more accidental collisions with the ice, Hatsume decided to change her approach. She increased her altitude, flying above the menacing ice pillars. From this vantage point, she locked onto Todoroki and unleashed a relentless barrage of Repulsor blasts against him.

Todoroki reacted swiftly, summoning thick icy barriers in front of him to intercept the energy projectiles.

BAM!

CRACKLE!

The extremely dense muons from Hatsume's Repulsor blasts took their toll on the ice, causing it to crack and partially turn into steam with every impact. Todoroki found himself constantly reinforcing the barriers with fresh ice every few seconds.

'I can't keep playing defense,' he thought, reconsidering his strategy. 'Time to change things up.' With determination, he shifted his focus away from the barrier and instead created a slippery ice surface beneath his feet, allowing him to ice-surf away to a new position.

As Hatsume's relentless barrage of Repulsor blasts rained down from above, Todoroki found himself in a precarious situation. The ice pillars he had conjured provided a certain degree of cover, but Hatsume's targeting system seemed to adapt rapidly, making her shots uncomfortably close. Her technology was putting up a formidable fight against his icy defenses.

Todoroki's frosty breath hung in the air as he weaved through the labyrinthine path created by his ice pillars. He was aware that this couldn't go on indefinitely, that he needed to seize an opportunity to turn the tide of the battle. Hatsume's relentless assault was wearing him down, but he had one advantage – patience.

Hatsume, floating above the icy battleground, was growing increasingly frustrated. Her normally precise targeting system was struggling to lock onto her agile opponent in the maze he had created. "This is ridiculous," she muttered to herself, her voice nearly drowned out by the explosive sounds of her Repulsor blasts. "I need a better targeting system if I'm going to hit him!"

It was a technological arms race within this frozen arena, with Hatsume determined to upgrade her suit's capabilities once this match concluded. She made mental notes about enhancing her tracking software, recognizing the need to adapt on the fly to her opponent's evasive maneuvers.

Meanwhile, hidden within the intricate maze of ice pillars, Todoroki was preparing for his moment. He knew he couldn't evade forever, and this was the perfect time to strike. Hatsume had started scanning for his location when, suddenly, he unleashed a surprise attack.

A relentless onslaught of razor-sharp ice shards bore down on Hatsume with ruthless precision, taking her completely by surprise. With mere moments to spare, she made a frantic attempt to activate the Energy Shield, only to be confronted by an alarming warning message displayed on her goggles' heads-up display (HUD): "Energy Shield compromised. Projector damage detected."

Confusion and dread clutched at Hatsume as she grappled with the sudden and bewildering malfunction. She barely had time to raise her arms, shielding her exposed face from the icy barrage, and her armored suit managed to deflect the majority of the projectiles. However, one particularly sharp shard found its mark, grazing her right leg with a frigid sting, causing an explosive impact that inflicted severe damage on one of the thrusters attached to her boot.

The overwhelming force sent her spiraling uncontrollably towards the unyielding ground, and an inadvertent yelp of alarm slipped from her lips during the tumultuous descent. "Right Repulsor Boot thruster damaged. Flight stability compromised," echoed the stern pronouncement from the HUD.

In her frenzied desperation, Hatsume made a frantic effort to reroute power to the Jet Pack, only to be met with yet another foreboding warning message: "Jet Pack propulsion compromised. Icing detected."

A surge of panic coursed through her veins as the full weight of the situation unfolded before her. Nevertheless, Hatsume's resourceful nature refused to yield, even when confronted with such dire circumstances. In the final moments before crashing into the unforgiving ground, she acted with remarkable swiftness, engaging the lone operational boot.

Instantly, a burst of compressed muons burst forth from her left boot's thrusters, creating a cushioning effect that mitigated the impact's brutal force. Though the landing remained a jarring experience, she miraculously emerged with no significant injuries.

Splayed out on the icy arena floor, Hatsume's bewildered expression mirrored the tumultuous thoughts that raged within her. Her state-of-the-art goggles cast yet another warning message upon her HUD: "Arc Reactor: 35%." A sinking sense of despair took hold as she grappled with the harsh reality of her predicament.

'Thirty-five percent? How could it have drained so quickly?' She wondered, her mind racing to understand the rapid depletion of her prototype reactor. It had been an intense match, and her relentless Repulsor blasts combined with the strain of all her previous activities in the All-Star Games must have taken a more substantial toll on the Arc Reactor than she had initially estimated.

The unexpected malfunction of her Energy Shield only added to her mounting concerns. While Hatsume understood that it was a prototype and glitches were to be anticipated, this particular issue seemed to materialize out of thin air. Was it the cumulative strain of her earlier matches, the sub-zero temperatures courtesy of Todoroki, or perhaps a combination of these factors that led to this malfunction?

A growing sense of desperation clawed at her as she grappled with the ramifications of her diminishing power and the compromised state of her equipment. Her most formidable asset, the Repulsor technology that had allowed her to hold her own against formidable opponents, now hung in the balance. Her flight capabilities had been severely hampered, and with each passing moment, her chances of victory seemed to slip further away.

'Can I still win this fight?' She asked herself, her determination warring with doubt.

Then, as if summoned by her inner turmoil, a memory resurfaced—a memory of a conversation she had with someone who had seen potential in her, someone who had offered her words that had, at the time, seemed odd and out of place.

Midoriya Izuku's voice echoed in her mind: "But…Why should that matter… A person's Quirk doesn't make someone a Hero."

She had looked at him with confusion and curiosity, unable to fathom his meaning. He had pointed to her inventions and the Arc Reactor that powered them, seeing something in her that she hadn't quite grasped yet. "With your inventions AND the Arc Reactor to power it all, I think you could make a great Hero, Hatsume-san." He had stated it as if it were a matter of fact, as if he believed in her potential.

At the time she had thought he was being weird, but now, in the midst of her predicament, his words held a new significance. She remembered how he had motivated her, how he had challenged her to believe in herself. She had been the top student in the Support Course, but Midoriya had seen something more in her.

Then another memory surfaced, one from even earlier in the competition, after her first victory in the All-Star Games tournament. She had been met with cheers and applause, and amidst the excitement, she had encountered Midoriya once more.

Their exchange had been different then. Hatsume had been silent for several seconds, her crosshair pupils focusing on him. "Do you really believe it's possible?" she had asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Midoriya, ever confident and unwavering, had placed a hand on her armored shoulder pad, meeting her gaze with a sincere smile. "I think you just proved that for yourself, Hatsume."

As the memories washed over her, Hatsume Mei knew what she had to do.

She could no longer entertain self-doubt; the fear of running out of power could not control the fate of this match. This was her chance to prove herself, not just as an inventor but as a potential Hero.

Taking Mic's earlier suggestion to heart, she remotely hi-jacked the broadcast once more. With a mischievous grin, she quickly queued up a superhero soundtrack, the soaring and epic music filling the arena.

"Prepare yourself, Ice-Man," she whispered under her breath, her words now accompanied by the rousing melodies of heroism. The music swelled, and Hatsume couldn't help but feel the rush of adrenaline as she readied herself for the battle ahead, her every step and movement synchronized with the heroic beats of the soundtrack.

Present Mic couldn't contain his excitement, his voice booming through the stadium's speakers, "And Hatsume Mei adds her own superhero flair to the match! You go, girl! Rock that soundtrack!"

Aizawa, on the other hand, couldn't help but sigh deeply as he exchanged exasperated glances with Mic. He muttered under his breath, "It's like you've invited chaos into our lives." He then glanced at the uproarious crowd, who seemed to be thoroughly entertained by Hatsume's antics. "And they're loving it, of course."

Present Mic simply grinned back at Aizawa, unfazed by his friend's irritation, as the arena erupted with cheers and applause for Hatsume's musical interlude.

With renewed determination coursing through Hatsume, she pushed herself upright, standing tall once more. She understood the gravity of the situation, realizing that every move, every shot, every invention, and every remaining ounce of Arc Reactor power counted.

Hatsume summoned her inner genius, her mind firing on all cylinders. Surveying the battlefield, her eyes darting across the labyrinth of icy pillars, she knew quick thinking was her greatest ally. Without hesitation, she fine-tuned her Repulsor Gloves for her next move. In a daring maneuver, she unleashed a relentless series of energy blasts, each one targeted at the icy barriers encircling her.

Todoroki, his right side still enshrouded in a layer of frost, navigated through the frozen maze with practiced ease, heading toward Hatsume's location. His experience and physical conditioning as an 18-year-old had made him more resilient to the biting cold than when he was younger. Springing into action, he launched a volley of icy shards toward his elusive opponent.

As Hatsume activated her left boot thruster, she propelled herself backward, narrowly evading the lethal projectiles. With pinpoint precision, she fired several wide-range blasts that began to melt the ice surrounding her.

Todoroki watched her movements closely, his brow furrowing in confusion. "You should work on your aim," he remarked, genuinely puzzled.

With a sly grin, Hatsume responded, "I'm not aiming for you. Fun fact, water makes for a great conduit." Her words hung in the air as Todoroki glanced down at the water pooling around his feet, realization dawning upon him.

In an instant, Hatsume deployed the repurposed Wire Arrows, cleverly concealed within her forearm gauntlet pieces, into the water. She channeled a surge of electricity through the wires and into the liquid, creating a deadly electrical trap.

Todoroki's eyes widened as he comprehended the imminent danger. In a frantic surge of power, he reacted swiftly, freezing the water around him in a desperate bid to insulate himself from the impending shock.

Hatsume, however, could only curse herself internally for her impulsive move. 'Shoot! Me and my big mouth!'

With the immediate threat averted, Todoroki resorted to his ice manipulation once again, refreezing the ground beneath him as he surged forward, determined to seize the advantage in this high-stakes battle.

Hatsume knew she had to act fast. Disconnecting the Wire Arrows, she raised her arms and unleashed a barrage of energy blasts at the ice beneath Todoroki, hoping to trip him up. Her movements were executed with impeccable precision, and she observed with satisfaction as the ice began to splinter and fracture.

The gambit paid off as the ice exploded, sending Todoroki hurtling forward. Despite the unexpected assault, the Recommended Student displayed his resilience, executing a graceful somersault before landing firmly on his feet.

Recalibrating her blasters once more, she lowered their power, creating bright pulses that filled the arena with dazzling flashes. The sudden brilliance of the lights, coupled with Todoroki's own reflective ice, left him temporarily blinded.

This was her chance!

With the agility and speed granted by her suit, Hatsume closed the distance between them in a blur of motion, her heart pounding with the thrill of imminent victory. She grappled Todoroki over the boundary line while he staggered, his usual composure momentarily faltering, and she used the enhanced strength of her armor to her advantage. It felt as though success was within her grasp, like the culmination of all her hard work and determination.

But Todoroki hadn't earned his reputation for nothing. Even in complete darkness, his experience and rigorous training kicked in. Swiftly reacting, he clamped his fingers around her wrists with a vice-like grip, and the chilling tendrils of his Quirk began to encase her armor.

As her movements became compromised, Todoroki swiftly regained his footing, averting the imminent danger of being thrown out of bounds.

"You should surrender," Todoroki advised, his voice calm but tinged with an undertone of pity. "No one will think any less of you for it. You and I are just on completely different levels."

Hatsume's response was immediate and defiant, her voice unwavering despite the dire situation. "I'd be disappointed in myself if I just gave up, especially when there's still a chance to win."

Her determination was like a blazing fire within her, refusing to be extinguished, and it burned brighter with each passing moment.

Todoroki couldn't quite comprehend the unwavering resolve that emanated from the determined Support student before him. "Why do you still think you can win?" he questioned, his voice betraying a trace of confusion. "Why do you even want to win? You're just a Support student."

Hatsume's eyes sparkled with unyielding determination as she beamed impishly at her opponent. "I'm more than just support. Izuku helped me realize that!"

At the mention of his class rival's name, Todoroki's composure wavered for an instant, a flicker of unease passing through his usually stoic demeanor.

While Todoroki was distracted, desperation pushed Hatsume to her limits as she considered the dwindling power in her Arc Reactor. Her ingenious mind raced, seeking a way out of this predicament. She had to give it her all, there was no turning back now.

With a resolute focus, she turned her repulsors inward, compressing and magnifying the energy output.

WA-POW!

The outcome manifested as an astonishing point-blank blast, an intensity that propelled both contenders with unrelenting force. Hatsume became an airborne projectile, her form careening across the ring before a violent collision with an ice outcrop ensued. Despite the harsh impact, her armor dutifully absorbed the majority of the shock.

Meanwhile, Todoroki's proximity to the boundary line sharpened his instincts, averting complete expulsion from the ring. He responded with remarkable swiftness, engineering an ice wall to catch himself. The wall groaned under the burden of her blast but successfully thwarted his banishment from the ring.

As the dust and debris settled, Hatsume slowly, almost clumsily, rose to her feet. Her once agile movements were now hampered by the ice encasing her armor, making her appear more like a mechanical soldier from some distant, frozen future. The relentless cold penetrated every crevice, and her teeth chattered uncontrollably. A quick glance at her heads-up display (HUD) revealed the grim news: only 10% of the Arc Reactor's power remained.

Her options dwindled, but her genius mind refused to yield. Flying was out of the question, a Repulsor onslaught futile against Todoroki's ice barricades. Yet, an idea sparked within her—an audacious, daring plan. What if she unleashed a devastating laser, a last-ditch effort to turn the tide?

The prospect excited and terrified her simultaneously. Such an act would drain the Arc Reactor to the point of utter depletion, rendering it nothing more than a lifeless shell until a Palladium core replacement could be secured. A feat made even more daunting by the fact that she lacked access to such a crucial component. Her entire life's savings had been poured into the meager amount of Palladium currently residing within the reactor.

The consequences were dire, but the match had reached a point where risks needed to be taken.

Todoroki, too, freed himself from the encasing ice wall, his eyes locking onto Hatsume with a steely determination. In this critical juncture, the weight of their choices hung in the air, a palpable tension that neither was willing to relinquish. Victory remained within their grasp, and both were resolute not to let it slip away.

In the depths of her being, Hatsume offered a silent tribute to her prototype reactor, a bittersweet mixture of sorrow and resolve welling up within her. 'Super-baby', she thought tenderly, 'I'm aware you're on your last legs, and this very attack will be your end. But trust me, momma will find a way to bring you back to life someday!'

Todoroki's narrowed, mismatched eyes never left Hatsume as he made his move, his right side unleashing a colossal wave of ice in an overhead blow. The clash was imminent, and the arena trembled with the anticipation of their final, daring showdown.

With a surge of power, Hatsume's chestplate erupted in brilliance, casting an intense glow across the icy battlefield. The energy hummed and surged, resonating through the frozen landscape as her last-ditch effort reached full charge. Hatsume's determined eyes gleamed behind her goggles as she zeroed in on her target.

"Time to go Plus ULTRA!" She shouted out. "UNIBEAM!"

SHAKROOOMMM!

A blinding torrent of focused bluish-white energy burst forth from her chestplate, slicing through the frigid air with unstoppable force. It was a scorching lance of power, an iridescent torrent that incinerated everything in its path.

The very ground quaked beneath the ferocious assault, causing the ice beneath her feet to instantly vaporize. The atmosphere crackled with the unleashed might of the Unibeam, illuminating the battlefield with searing brilliance.

"Cementoss!" Midnight urgently cried out.

Cementoss sprang into action, rising from his seat and swiftly intervening. As he placed his hands on his pedestal, his Quirk surged to life, manipulating the cement in the ring to manifest a thick concrete barrier between the two devastating attacks.

However, the barrier's purpose was only to mitigate the ensuing chaos.

KA–BOOOOOOOM!

The Unibeam and Todoroki's ice clashed, resulting in a cataclysmic explosion of steam and unleashed power. The arena was instantly engulfed in a blinding explosion that rivaled the intensity of a detonated bomb. Shockwaves rippled outward, shattering the ice structures surrounding the ring and showering the area with debris.

The superhero soundtrack that Hatsume had been playing was abruptly cut off.

The audience collectively gasped in awe and horror as the explosion illuminated the entire arena like a blazing inferno. Many were compelled to turn away and shield their eyes from the overwhelming brilliance and force of the collision.

As the deafening explosion of Hatsume and Todoroki's combined Unibeam and Ice attacks rocked the stadium, Class 101-A's reactions were diverse. The shockwave of steam and energy billowed outward, causing some students to shield their eyes from the blinding display of power, while others watched with bated breath.

Both Midoriya and Jiro winced and rubbed their sears, trying to alleviate the ringing caused by the cacophonous explosion.

Uraraka gasped audibly, her brown eyes filled with awed concern. 'Holy… Did… Did that just happen?!'

Tsunotori was equally surprised as her bright blue eyes nearly bulged out as her jaw dropped. 'This is crazy! It's like something out of a Bay Michael movie!'

Iida stood rigid, his engines revving as if he were preparing to spring into action at a moment's notice. He was the embodiment of vigilance, ready to rush in and assist if necessary. The safety and well-being of his fellow students were paramount in his mind.

Asui's usual stoic expression faltered as concern was present in her eyes. She let out a nervous croak as the explosion continued.

Kirishima clenched his fists and shook with shocked anticipation as he leaned forward. 'This is freaking awesome!' Though he was concerned for Hatsume and Todoroki, he couldn't help but admire the manly spirit that both of them had shown on the field.

Sero went bug-eyed and his jaw threatened to drop off. His shocked expression quickly turned into one of anticipation, wondering how the battle would unfold after such a dramatic exchange of power.

"WAH-HOO!" Ashido, meanwhile, was cheering with excitement. Her vibrant personality shone through even in the face of danger. She couldn't help but revel in the spectacle of the explosion, but her concern for Hatsume's well-being lurked beneath her exuberant exterior.

Aoyama, meanwhile, watched the Unibeam attack unfold with a twinge of envy coupled with shock. He couldn't help but compare his own Quirk to Hatsume's invention, and in that moment, he felt a sense of inadequacy.

Midoriya maintained his composure, his expression a mix of concern and resolute determination. His vivid green eyes remained fixed on the tumultuous aftermath, filled with worry for Hatsume's safety.

Yet beneath his concern, self-doubts lurked, threatening to overwhelm him. The thought that his actions might have placed Hatsume in harm's way gnawed at his conscience. He vigorously shook his head, rejecting the corrosive thoughts of self-blame that lurked at the corners of his mind.

'She'll be alright! She has to be!' He internally affirmed, steeling his resolve to trust in Hatsume's ingenuity and determination.

In one of the waiting rooms, Yaoyorozu fixed her gaze on the TV screen tucked away in the corner, eagerly following the intense match. The broadcast briefly faltered, succumbing to static, yet the palpable shockwave that rippled through the stadium left no doubt about the climactic explosion she'd just missed.

Her eloquent lips parted slightly, and a soft exclamation escaped her, tinged with both astonishment and admiration. "My word..."

The genius heiress had recognized Hatsume's remarkable talent when it came to gadgets and inventive prowess. She'd seen glimpses of it during the Risk Trifecta and even more prominently in Hatsume's previous match against Kaibara. However, what unfolded before her now was beyond anything she had anticipated.

Yaoyorozu couldn't help but marvel at how Hatsume's ingenious gadgets had pushed Todoroki, one of U.A.'s top students, to the brink. The match was a testament to Hatsume's formidable skills and her ability to adapt in the heat of battle.

Her analytical mind began to churn as she observed the Arc Reactor that adorned Hatsume's chest, the source of the awe-inspiring power she'd just witnessed. Questions danced in her thoughts like sparks of curiosity. "Were those energy attacks and that laser all powered by that single device?" Her fascination with the Arc Reactor deepened as she contemplated the technology's potential.

A certain name surfaced in her thoughts, a name that carried weight within her inner circle. "Izuku... Could it be that you saw her potential from the beginning?" The question lingered in her mind, an enigma she couldn't resist contemplating as she patiently awaited the broadcast's return.

Soon enough, the screen flickered back to life, unveiling a scene enveloped in smoke and swirling steam within the arena.

As the lingering smoke and steam began to dissipate, a tense silence hung in the air, shrouding the arena in suspense. The audience collectively held their breath, awaiting the outcome of the cataclysmic collision that had just occurred.

Emerging from the dissipating haze, the figure of Todoroki Shoto gradually came into view. He had managed to use his ice manipulation at the last possible moment, erecting an ice wall to save himself from being forcibly expelled from the ring. It had been a close call, and the near-disaster had left him visibly shaken.

Struggling to sit up amidst the remnants of the icy battlefield, Todoroki's mismatched eyes scanned the ring, his gaze landing on his opponent.

Hatsume Mei, though battered and barely holding herself together, still remained within the boundaries of the ring. Half of her armor was in shambles, shattered and fallen to the ground, while the other half was encased in a layer of partially melted frost. She mumbled to herself, her words carrying a mix of determination and whimsy.

Her voice quivered as she muttered, "Next set... needs to handle sub-zero temperatures..." Her strength wavered, and her body finally gave way. She fell backward, her body rolling onto the cold and battered arena floor as the prototype Arc Reactor reached its limit and fell into silence.

The bluish white light faded away and went dark.

But even in her moment of vulnerability and unconsciousness, a radiant smile graced her face, and she couldn't help but giggle softly.

"I really can do it... huh, Izuku?"

Her words hung in the air, a testament to the unwavering inspiration she drew from her weird new friend, Midoriya Izuku. Hatsume's belief in herself had been fortified by his unwavering support and encouragement.

As the young inventor's eyelids fluttered, threatening to close completely, the arena's attention seemed to momentarily focus solely on her. Her small yet poignant display of determination and resolve resonated with the crowd, eliciting a wave of emotions among the spectators.

Some in the crowd cheered with greater enthusiasm than ever before, while others found themselves moved to tears by the sheer heart and spirit displayed in the battle they had just witnessed.

Midnight stepped forward to the edge of the stage, her pedestal destroyed by the explosive shockwave. Her voice rang out clearly to declare the outcome. "Ladies and gentlemen, your winner... Todoroki Shoto!"

The arena responded with an eruption of wild, fervent cheers. The audience demonstrated their deep appreciation for the spectacular match that had unfolded before them.

"What an incredible match, folks! Did you see that explosion of energy?!" Present Mic's booming voice echoed through the stadium. "Hatsume Mei really brought the heat into this battle!"

"Hatsume's resourcefulness and determination are commendable. She took Todoroki to the limit." Aizawa sincerely appraised.

Mic continued. "But in the end, it's the master of ice, Todoroki Shoto, who claims victory and secures his spot in the Semifinals! Folks, let me tell you, we just witnessed an epic showdown for the ages! Who could've predicted that Hatsume Mei from the Support Course would push Todoroki Shoto, one of UA's finest, to the brink? That's right, folks, it was an electrifying performance!"

The crowd erupted into a deafening chorus of cheers, surpassing the already boisterous atmosphere of the day. The cheers were so thunderous that even those with sensitive hearing had to shield their ears from the soaring decibels.

In this unforgettable moment, Hatsume Mei's name resounded through the arena, etching an enduring memory into the hearts of everyone who had been privileged to witness her unyielding determination.

Todoroki stood there; a swirling whirlwind of emotions hidden beneath his stoic facade as he observed the medical robots carrying Hatsume away with utmost care to the medical ward. It was a surreal sight; one he couldn't have imagined just moments ago. The fact that a student from the Support Course, someone he had underestimated, had taken him to the brink of defeat, left him grappling with a mix of humility and surprise.

As Hatsume disappeared from his sight, Todoroki's thoughts wandered back to a conversation he had with his father in the corridor. Those words echoed in his mind, a haunting reminder of the complexities of strength and victory.

"Remember that strength isn't just measured by the intensity of one's flames. It's the choices we make and the convictions we hold that define us."

Despite technically winning the match, Todoroki couldn't shake the feeling that he had fallen short in some way. The doubt, a seed planted by his father's relentless pursuit of victory, had now sprouted and cast a shadow over his accomplishment.

"I won... so why does it feel so much like I'm the loser here?" Todoroki muttered to himself, his breath forming frosty clouds in the chilly arena air. The weight of his father's expectations had always been a burden he carried, but in this moment, it felt heavier than ever before.

For a brief instant, Todoroki allowed the thought to linger. He questioned whether he was truly on the right path, whether his convictions were as solid as he had believed. But he knew he couldn't afford to be consumed by these doubts. He had a destiny to fulfill, a goal to achieve.

This match was merely a bump in the road, a challenge that would only make him stronger. It wouldn't deter him from his determination to become the Number One Pro Hero without relying on his fire. With newfound resolve, Todoroki turned away from the stage and headed toward the tunnel that would lead him out of the arena.

'I don't need your Quirk,' he thought fiercely. 'I'll win without it. I'll show you that I can be a great Hero, the greatest, with only Mom's power. Maybe then, she'll know that she doesn't have to hate me.'

After the explosive conclusion of Hatsume and Todoroki's match, an intermission settled over the All-Star Games arena. Cementoss worked diligently to repair the ring and clear away the remnants of their intense battle. Amidst the chaos, Yaoyorozu found a moment of calm in one of the tunnel entrances, where she calmly stretched and mentally prepared for her upcoming match against Shinso.

Shinso had emerged as a dark horse in the All-Star Games, making a memorable impression during the Risk Trifecta event. Even after enduring a thorough thrashing from Monoma, he had managed to secure victory in the First-Round, showcasing his resilience. Yaoyorozu respected his determination but felt confident in her own abilities.

Unlike Monoma, she was well-informed about Shinso's Brainwashing Quirk and its limitations. Additionally, Shinso lacked combat training, further putting him at a disadvantage. Yaoyorozu knew that the key to victory lay in avoiding conversation with him, a tactic she was certain he would employ to try and manipulate her. She made a mental commitment to maintain her composure and not react to any provocations, no matter how infuriating they might be.

Taking Shinso's limitations into account, she had formulated a straightforward plan. It seemed almost too simple, but her experience with her own Quirk had taught her a valuable lesson: the fewer variables in a plan, the less that could potentially go wrong.

When the signal light finally indicated it was her turn to enter the arena, Yaoyorozu took a deep breath and stepped forward with all the confidence she could muster. The crowd's cheers washed over her, and she couldn't help but notice that there were fewer catcalls this time around; perhaps she had already proven herself as more than just a pretty face in the previous round.

Present Mic's voice boomed through the stadium's speakers, electrifying the audience as he introduced the upcoming match.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Heroes and Heroines, get ready for the next and final Quarterfinals match!"

"It's about time." Aizawa grumbled.

Mic went on. "It's time to witness some Quirk-powered excitement as we bring two extraordinary students into the spotlight!"

"In one corner, we have the prodigious genius of creation, the embodiment of elegance and power, and a force to be reckoned with! Give it up for the one and only Yaoyorozu Momo!"

Yaoyorozu stepped onto the stage, greeted by cheers and applause from her supporters. She maintained her poised composure, ready to further showcase her abilities to the Pro Hero scouts that were watching.

"And in the next corner, the enigmatic master of mind control, a rising star in the making, and the dark horse of this year's All-Star Games! Put your hands together for Shinso Hitoshi!"

Shinso stepped onto the stage, his presence commanding attention. The audience couldn't help but be intrigued by the young hero with an unusual and formidable Quirk.

"Get ready, folks, because this match promises to be a battle of wits, strategy, and sheer determination! Who will emerge victorious and move onto the Semifinals? It's time to find out as we dive into the next chapter of the UA All-Star Games!"

The crowd's anticipation was electric, their excitement tangible as they awaited the showdown between the next two contenders.

"Hey," Shinso greeted Yaoyorozu as she approached, his tone sounding dry, "no hard feelings, right?"

Yaoyorozu responded with a narrowed gaze, her quick thinking evident as she conjured a pair of earmuffs around her head, sending a clear message that she wouldn't be falling for his mind control tricks.

Shinso sighed heavily, realizing his plan had hit a dead end. "Well, I figured that'd be the case. Guess I have no other option," he muttered, resigned to the situation.

"Are both contestants ready?" Midnight's voice boomed, though Yaoyorozu couldn't hear it through her makeshift earmuffs.

With impressive lip-reading skills, Yaoyorozu nodded firmly. "Yes, ma'am!"

Shinso, on the other hand, simply stuffed his hands in his gym pants' pockets, appearing nonchalant. "Yeah…"

"Then…" Midnight announced with her usual dramatic flair, pulling down her whip with a crack. "BEGIN!"

Seeing the signal, Yaoyorozu swiftly generated flashbang grenades from her forearms, preparing to throw them forward as part of her strategy. Her mind raced with tactics to incapacitate her opponent.

But before she could act, Shinso raised his arms. "I forfeit."

Yaoyorozu halted her throw, her eyes wide with surprise and confusion. 'W-what?!'

Midnight's whip cracked again, but this time, it was to halt the battle before it even began.

The audience murmured in confusion, not quite comprehending the sudden turn of events.

"Why are you giving up, Shinso?" Midnight asked, her voice laced with surprise.

Shinso, still calm and collected, merely shrugged. "I've made it as far as I can," he replied, his voice picked up by the microphones. "There's no point in fighting a battle I have no chance of winning."

His words hung heavy in the air, resonating with an unexpected wisdom. While some members of the audience voiced their displeasure at Shinso's decision to quit without even trying, others began to appreciate the strategic depth behind his choice.

"Well then, the match is over. With Shinso conceding defeat, Yaoyorozu advances to the Semifinals!" Midnight announced.

Shinso turned and walked off the stage. Many in the audience who were regular civilians voiced their displeasure by booing at the disheveled student. However, while many were disappointed by his surrender, the people who actually mattered respected his wise decision.

One of those people was a certain Underground Hero.

From the press box, Aizawa watched with keen interest. His usually stern expression softened as he observed the unfolding scene. Aizawa, having faced countless challenges as both a Pro Hero and a teacher, understood the importance of recognizing one's limitations and making strategic retreats when necessary.

From Class 101-A's suite, as Midoriya watched Shinso walk off the stage, a sense of understanding welled up within him. While Midoriya may be considered a historical symbol of unwavering determination and valor, he also understood the complexities of making tough decisions in the heat of battle.

In his war experience, Midoriya had witnessed comrades making difficult choices for the greater good, even if it meant stepping back from direct combat. Shinso's decision, in his eyes, was a strategic and wise move. He had recognized the limitations of his Quirk and, rather than engaging in an unwinnable battle, he chose to withdraw.

'I know it wasn't an easy decision…but the right ones hardly are.' Midoriya thought. 'Well done, Shinso.' He couldn't help but smile proudly, impressed by Shinso's growth throughout the All-Star Games.

To him, being a Hero wasn't just about winning battles; it was about making the right choices and growing as a person. Shinso's decision to forfeit was a testament to his maturity and understanding of those principles, something that Midoriya respected wholeheartedly. The fact that Shinso had made it this far was a testament to his determination and skill, and Midoriya believed that Shinso's performance would undoubtedly draw the attention of Pro Heroes and agencies.

If not, he knew some people who would certainly be interested in Shinso's services.

Yaoyorozu, while she had secured victory and a spot in the Final Four, her heart was burdened by a sense of disappointment. The straightforward win didn't quench her desire to demonstrate her capabilities to the Pro Heroes and the spectators. She yearned for a challenging adversary, a chance to reveal the full extent of her skills and strategic prowess, to prove herself through a hard-fought battle.

However, Yaoyorozu also empathized with Shinso's rationale and couldn't fault his decision. In all honesty, if she had been in his position, she would have likely made the same choice.

With a sigh of discontent, she pulled down her earmuffs and placed her flashbang grenades into her pockets while beginning her slow walk toward the exit. Her eyes momentarily flickered to the jumbotron, displaying the fading name of Shinso and her own name advancing to the Semifinals bracket.

Her next opponent: Todoroki Shoto.

The grimace on her face mirrored the daunting challenge ahead. She knew that her upcoming match would be an intense battle, one that demanded her utmost focus and creativity. Determined to make the most of her opportunity in the Semifinals, Yaoyorozu pushed aside her disappointment and set her sights on the trials and triumphs that awaited her. The stage was set, and she was ready to rise to the occasion.

Meanwhile, the resonant voice of Present Mic reverberated through the arena's speakers once more. "Well, ladies and gentlemen, while that match was brief, Shinso has given us all a lesson in the art of making smart choices and tactical thinking! Let's show some love for his sportsmanship!"

The audience's reaction was mixed, with some feeling a bit shortchanged by the brevity of the match. However, the more discerning spectators, both in the arena and watching remotely, recognized and appreciated Shinso's maturity and strategic acumen.

"But hold onto your seats, folks!" Mic's enthusiasm was infectious. "The Quarterfinals have delivered some unforgettable moments, and guess what? The Semifinals are right around the corner, promising even more electrifying action!"

The crowd's anticipation swelled, their cheers echoing throughout the venue.

"So keep those eyes glued to the screen, because the All-Star Games are about to hit their boiling point!" Mic declared, his signature catchphrase punctuating the air. "Stay tuned for the Semifinals, where you can expect more heart-pounding heroics, jaw-dropping feats, and earth-shaking excitement! PLUS ULTRA!"

With that, the arena buzzed with anticipation for the upcoming Semifinals, and the audience understood that the real fireworks were yet to come in this thrilling competition.

Hatsume's eyelids fluttered open, her surroundings gradually coming into focus under the soft, sterile lighting of the infirmary. She felt an odd lightness in her body, a sensation heightened by the residual adrenaline from her recent battle. Her gaze landed on the face of Recovery Girl, who leaned over her with a warm, reassuring smile.

"Good, you're awake." the elderly doctor said.

Ignoring the question for the moment, Hatsume's eyes darted around the room in mild panic. "My babies... Where are they?" she blurted out, her concern for her cherished gadgets evident in her voice.

Recovery Girl's chuckle was soothing, and she gestured with her cane towards a corner of the infirmary. Hatsume turned her head and let out a sigh of relief as she spotted her goggles, armor, and gadgets piled together, a comforting sight amidst her post-battle haze.

Although her gadgets brought a sense of security, her gaze was inevitably drawn to her chestplate, where the once-vibrant Arc Reactor now lay dark and lifeless, the battle having taken its toll. A twinge of sadness crossed Hatsume's eyes as the reality of her loss settled in, the memory of her intense bout with Todoroki still fresh in her mind.

Before she could dwell on it further, a cheerful voice interrupted her thoughts. "Hey, Support Girl!"

Turning her attention to the source, Hatsume found the green-haired body-splitter, Tokage Setsuna, sitting up in a nearby bed, sporting a wide, toothy grin.

"That match was incredible!" Tokage exclaimed enthusiastically. "I've never seen anyone push Todoroki like that before! Kick-ass performance, girl!"

Hatsume's momentary sadness gave way to excitement, and she beamed at Tokage. "You think so? Thanks! I do try."

Recovery Girl, with her motherly concern, gently probed, "How are you feeling, dearie? You suffered from several contusions, bruised bones, and mild frostbite. Nothing I couldn't handle, but my Quirk does require your stamina to initiate healing."

Hatsume waved her off with a dismissive gesture, a renewed burst of energy coursing through her. "Eh, a little tired, but I'm fine! Anyways, I'mma head—"

The infirmary door swung open abruptly, and a group of familiar faces, including Midoriya and Yaoyorozu, rushed into the room. Midoriya's expression was filled with genuine concern and relief as he immediately locked eyes on Hatsume, his voice reflecting his anxiety.

"Mei! Are you alright?" he anxiously inquired, his tone infused with sincere worry at the sight of her awake.

Hatsume responded with an exuberant grin, flashing Midoriya a thumbs-up. "All good, Izuku! A little sore and tired, but nothing a strong energy drink won't fix."

Recovery Girl, with her ever-watchful eye on the well-being of her students, chimed in with a note of caution. "I would not recommend drinking that junk. The temporary boost it gives isn't worth the unhealthy effects."

Hatsume, undeterred and still grinning widely, offered a straightforward reply. "Advice ignored!"

The elderly doctor sighed, her frustration evident, as she shook her head. "Kids these days," she muttered under her breath.

Midoriya, his initial worry giving way to relief, smiled warmly at Hatsume. "I'm just glad to see you're alright. I was worried after that explosion..."

Yaoyorozu joined in with genuine praise, her voice laced with admiration. "Hatsume-san, your match was simply incredible. I didn't... You really surprised us all."

Hatsume snickered as she hopped out of the bed, her enthusiasm undiminished. "Glad I made a good impression then!"

"Hey, no need to worry about me, guys," Tokage quipped with a wink. "It's not like I was hurt or anything."

Midoriya and Yaoyorozu's attention shifted to Tokage, who was sitting at the edge of her bed, donning a new gym uniform. She wore a mischievous grin as she playfully teased them.

Yaoyorozu offered a soft smile. "I'm happy to see you're okay, Setsuna-chan. How are you feeling?"

Tokage responded with a thumbs-up. "After a good nap, I'm feeling better." She then turned to Recovery Girl. "By the way, am I good to leave now?"

The medical professional nodded in approval. "Yes. Both of you may go now. Just make sure you stay hydrated and get plenty of rest when you get home."

"Sure thing!" Tokage agreed, standing up and stretching her arms. "I am feeling kind of parched."

Hatsume, on the other hand, was brimming with enthusiasm for her next venture. "Rest? No time for that! Especially when there's progress to be made."

Midoriya sighed, shaking his head with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. "Please listen to her, Mei."

Tokage, catching onto the change in address, raised an intrigued eyebrow. Her eyes widened with a grin as she teased Hatsume, her voice filled with playful delight. "Already on a first-name basis, eh?"

Midoriya shook his head, his expression earnest as he swiftly addressed the accusation. "It's not like that. Don't read too much into it."

Tokage's curious eyes shifted to Yaoyorozu, searching for any signs of displeasure. Surprisingly, the usually composed heiress didn't appear the least bit bothered by the exchange between the two friends. Tokage's conclusion formed in an instant. 'Momo's not mad about it? Huh… Guess there isn't anything going on then.'

With a playful grin, Tokage decided to let it slide, her tone teasing as she responded, "Alright. You're off the hook then, Greenie... For now."

"What's gonna happen to my babies if I leave them here, doc?" Hatsume inquired, her finger pointing toward her gear piled up in the corner.

Recovery Girl responded reassuringly, "Don't worry about that, dearie. It'll all be taken back to the Support Department after the Games are over. They'll be there on Monday when you return to classes."

Midoriya's gaze shifted to the equipment, taking in the notable damage it had endured during the intense match. However, when his eyes settled on the chestplate, his surprise was palpable. The Arc Reactor, once a source of vibrant power, was now dark and unresponsive.

Hatsume breathed a sigh of relief. "That's a relief to hear."

Midoriya couldn't ignore the change in the Arc Reactor's status and hesitantly pointed it out. "Mei… The Arc Reactor. It's not glowing anymore."

Hatsume's smile faltered, and she lowered her head as her shoulders slumped. "Y-Yeah," she admitted, her gaze shifting to the dented and damaged armor that housed her greatest invention. "All the stuff I did today drained it more than I thought. That Unibeam move, though pretty spectacular, used up all of its remaining power."

Tokage, perceptive as ever, chimed in with a raised eyebrow. "Unibeam? You mean that huge laser?"

Hatsume nodded, her voice carrying a touch of disappointment.

Tokage sighed and rubbed her neck, a gesture of sympathy. "Well, geez… That sucks. Can it be fixed or something?"

Hatsume managed a somewhat awkward chuckle. "Oh yeah! Of course! With the right materials, it can be revived... but they're pretty hard to acquire! I mean, it's not impossible to get... just difficult." She shrugged, accepting the challenge. "But that's life. The great ones learn to adapt and make the best of their situations!"

"That's... a truthful statement," Yaoyorozu acknowledged, appreciating Hatsume's resilience.

However, Hatsume's response weighed heavily on Midoriya. He couldn't escape the feeling of responsibility, the guilt settling like a stone in his chest. 'It's my fault. If I hadn't pushed her to go all out... her Arc Reactor would still be working.'

Yaoyorozu immediately noticed the shift in Midoriya's demeanor and felt a wave of concern wash over her. 'What's wrong? Why does he seem so down all of a sudden?'

However, before she could voice her concerns, Recovery Girl interrupted. "If that's all, you four are welcome to leave." Her gaze then focused on Midoriya and Yaoyorozu with a hint of sternness. "As for you both, congratulations on advancing to the Semifinals." She paused, her bespectacled eyes narrowing as she issued a stern warning. "However, please try not to injure yourselves or your opponents too severely. Remember, these are games, not a death match."

Midoriya and Yaoyorozu responded in unison, their voices filled with determination. "Yes, ma'am!"

Tokage couldn't help but sweat-drop. 'Easier said than done given who their opponents are.'

With their concerns in tow, the four students left the medical infirmary together, making their way down the corridor toward the stairwell.

"Hey, Izuku! No one in your class will be mad if I help myself to some drinks and snacks in your suite, right?" Hatsume inquired, her enthusiasm shining through.

"I wouldn't think so, especially since they gave us a lot," Midoriya replied, his accommodating nature evident.

Tokage exchanged a curious glance with her fellow salmon-haired student. "They don't stock any snacks in the Support Course section?"

"I wasn't paying attention, but it doesn't matter as I'm sitting in your section with my new friends!" Hatsume declared joyfully.

Tokage blinked twice, trying to grasp the situation. "Um… I'm missing some context here."

Yaoyorozu stepped in to provide some clarity. "Hatsume-san and Izuku-kun hit it off well, and she wanted to join our group."

"Huh… Okay. Well," the mossy-haired girl grinned broadly, "the more, the merrier, I suppose." She then turned to Midoriya with interest. "Seriously, are you sure your Quirk doesn't have anything to do with gathering friends or something?"

Midoriya chuckled sheepishly and scratched his head. "Not that I'm aware of."

As the quartet approached the stairwell, Midoriya paused on the first step. "Momo-chan, Setsuan-chan, is it okay if Mei and I chat for a moment in private?"

"Hmm?" Hatsume tilted her head in confusion.

"I… suppose," Yaoyorozu replied hesitantly. "Your match starts in 30 minutes, though… And the others will want to give you their best wishes before then."

Midoriya nodded in understanding. "This won't take long. We'll catch up to you shortly." He smiled. "Mind saving me a Pocari Sweat and an energy bar?"

Yaoyorozu smiled and nodded. "Of course."

With that, Yaoyorozu and Tokage ascended the stairway, leaving Midoriya and Hatsume alone. Once they turned the corner and proceeded up the next flight, Tokage leaned closer to her friend and whispered, "Are you sure there isn't anything going on between those two?"

Yaoyorozu frowned uneasily. "I… cannot say for certain. They've both denied any romantic attraction… and I do believe them."

"You do?" Tokage asked, sounding surprised.

The ravenette nodded. "It's just… I feel there's something else drawing Izuku-kun to Hatsume-san. What that is, I can only speculate."

Tokage briefly considered Yaoyorozu's response and decided to trust her judgment. There was a lot of information she wasn't privy to after spending the last ninety minutes in the infirmary. Ashido could catch her up on the details later, she thought.

The greenette changed the topic. "I see. Well, on another note, congratulations on making it to the Semifinals!"

"Thank you, Setsuna-chan." Yaoyorozu nodded in appreciation but then frowned slightly. "Though I am still a bit upset about being handed a win, I can't fault Shinso-san for his decision either."

"I get it." Tokage shrugged. "But if you ask me, you've earned your spot. You've really performed well today, Yaomomo." She then lowered her head, unable to prevent a twinge of envy over her friend's success.

"I appreciate the kind words…" Yaoyorozu lowered her head. "But I can't take all the credit. I've only made it this far thanks to Izuku-kun's advice and wise counsel." A warm smile then graced her elegant face as she fondly remembered all the moments when Midoriya had supported her before and during their time at UA University.

Tokage stared at Yaoyorozu momentarily before a wistful smile crossed her face, her thoughts drifting to a certain Kohai friend of hers. "Yeah… I can relate."

Meanwhile, as Yaoyorozu and Tokage ascended the stairs, Midoriya and Hatsume found themselves alone in the corridor, illuminated by flickering fluorescent lights. Faint echoes of crowd noise and distant music permeated the air from above.

"So, what did you want to talk about? Ooh!" Her crosshair eyes widened in anticipation. "Is it about your shield? Do you have more juicy information to share with me?!"

Midoriya hesitated, his expression tense. He ran a hand through his hair, then took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly. Finally, he placed both hands at his sides and bowed deeply, his head lowered.

"Mei... I'm sorry."

Hatsume took a step back, bewildered. "What are you doing?"

"I'm sorry!" Midoriya repeated, his head still bowed. "I blame myself for what happened."

Placing a hand on her hip, she used her other hand to scratch her pink dreadlocks in confusion. "You're not making sense." She stated bluntly.

Midoriya raised his head, his expression filled with remorse. "It's about the Arc Reactor."

Hatsume tensed up at the mention of her deceased invention. "I... don't understand. You're blaming yourself for my super-baby's death?" She shook her head and tried to smile. "It's not your fault, Izuku. I was the one who–"

Midoriya cut her off. "No, it is my fault. I was the one who pushed you, Mei! You were perfectly content with bowing out in the First-Round until I interfered. Your reactor would still be working if it weren't for me."

"T-That's…" Hatsume trailed off.

Midoriya continued, his tone filled with regret. "I also want to apologize for making it seem like I was pressuring you to be a Hero. That may not be what you aspire to be, and that's completely okay! I just... When I saw your inventions, I couldn't help but see the possibilities. Still, though," he lowered his head again, "that's no excuse. I'm sorry if I confused you. If you're content with just being in Support, then I promise I won't–"

Hatsume didn't let him finish his sentence. Instead, she lightly bonked him on the head.

"You think too much, Izuku! And that's saying a lot coming from me," Hatsume laughed impishly. "Honestly, your apology is more confusing than anything else right now. But seriously, don't blame yourself for my inventions or my decisions. I've always been a bit of a mad genius, you know?" She grinned. "Besides, we're friends! Friends don't need apologies for being themselves."

Midoriya's breath caught in his throat as he straightened up, looking at his eccentric friend in surprise. "Mei?"

"And as for your concerns about confusing me, if anything, you've enlightened me," Hatsume declared with unbridled passion. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. "I may not have a combat Quirk, but that doesn't mean I can't be heroic in my own way. I'll support other Heroes while saving others too! In style, of course."

Hatsume's unwavering determination left Midoriya momentarily speechless. As he gazed at her with wide eyes, he could see it—the fiery determination burning in her gaze.

The unmistakable desire to become a hero!

Hatsume snickered and patted him on the shoulder, snapping him out of his daze. "Anyways... Don't feel bad! C'mon, let's head upstairs already! I could go for a snack!"

As the pinkette made her way up the stairs, a small, wistful smile crossed the super-soldier's freckled face. His thoughts turned to the brilliant scientist who had seen potential in him when no one else did and had given him the chance to become a hero.

'Dr. Hatsume... Teruko... I... I hope I've made you proud,' he thought, his eyes glistening with emotion at the memory of the woman who had changed his life.

A/N: And that's a wrap on the Quarterfinals! Apologies for the delayed update. I took some time off during the month for a trip and was also busy with work. Hopefully you fine readers enjoyed this update. A lot of character progression is present in this chapter, especially for one Mei Hatsume!

I really like the fun, mad scientist dynamic she brings to Izuku's friendship circle! In an AU, I could totally see him and Mei hitting it off well given enough time.

For those wondering why Endeavor seemed more calm when he approached Shoto compared to his meeting with All Might… Well, Endeavor doesn't like All Might at all and can't stand being around him for long. In this story, Shoto isn't a 15-year–old kid and Endeavor knows he can't just demand that he use his fire like he does in canon. That's why I went for a more mature approach… and Shoto is at least mature enough to realize his father has a point, but he refuses to acknowledge due to his own issues.

Credit to Monkey D. Conan for his helpful input for the fight scenes in this chapter!

Shout out to Hootyman for his suggestion for how to handle Momo vs Hitoshi. After mulling over it, I realized Hootyman brought up a good point. Since Hitoshi knows he has no shot of winning against Momo, the logical choice would be to surrender. It stinks but sometimes the best choice is a tactical retreat.

The next chapter will feature the Semifinals and potentially the Final too. Depends on how long I write the fight scenes. I know Katsuki and Izuku's fight will be a decent length.
