RWBY: A Thorn in My Heart
Chapter 1: Mother's Here
A chilly evening breeze flew through the forest. Leafs fell from the trees and landed near a small home in the forest. One leaf flew through an open window and landed in a small crib, on top of a tiny sleeping Faunus infant with black hair, down, puppy ears, pink cheeks, and most notably, silver eyes. This was Thorn, a dog Faunus with eyes that showcased the potential of a great warrior race. They could destroy the Grimm, demonic beasts that tormented the world with just a single glance and even said to be able to shake the heavens with their powers, but for now, this infant was as helpless as anyone his age. The leaf tickled his nose as he squirmed in his crib, giving off an irritated coo before crying out loud due to the discomfort the object felt on his face.

Soon a sweet, familiar sound resonated throughout the room that stopped the infants squealing. As he opened his tiny silver eyes, he saw past the leaf on his face the image of a small red and black haired maiden looking down on him. Her petit yet tall frame meant she could be no more than sixteen; she wore in a pink night blouse and slippers and had lips as red as the rose.
"Here I am, Thorn" The young maiden said softly with a tender smile and loving look in her eyes.
These eyes were silver like the Thorn's, there was no doubt for him that this was his mother, Ruby Rose. She was joined by her father Taiyang, a large blond haired man with purple eyes and her step-mother Raven, a red eye woman with messy long black hair, looking on with smiles on their faces.
"Let me get that thing off you sweetie" Ruby quietly said as she removed the irritating leaf off her tearful sons face.
Ruby was a huntress in training at the prestigious school of Beacon where she hoped to train and become a great warrior like her late mother Summer Rose was. Sadly, during a scouting mission near a dangerous mountain called Mountain Glenn, Ruby was ambushed and captured after reporting a White Fang terrorist base. This group consisted of animal-like humanoids much like Thorn, except they had an intense hatred for humans due to years of persecution they suffered at the races hands.
They beat and tortured Ruby for information, and when she bravely refused to talk, one white fang lieutenant named Timber Lupis beat her to an inch of her life and robbed her of her innocence. Worse, this attack would lead to her own sons conception and an agonizing year of nightmares for Ruby. Every time she so much as looked at her pregnant stomach, the attack replayed in her mind painfully. There were times she even wished to take her trademark scythe weapon Crescent Rose and stab her stomach to expel the unwanted trauma, caring less if she herself survived.
Even with all this torment, Ruby just couldn't find it in her heart to kill her unborn son and so she carried him throughout the long nine months and endured many spasms of pain, both physical and mental. She simply decided to put him up for adoption, believing her father's guidance that she could find him a good home. But when Remnant came under siege from Cinder and the White Fang, she was forced to stay hidden and watch her team and family fight and risk their lives to protect her and her unborn baby while she could only stand by and watch helplessly. It became too much for her and so she threw caution to the wind and fought, despite her pregnancy, and fought with them to save Remnant. But the strain in doing so nearly killed her as she soon gave birth to the child she initially didn't want.
Ruby teared a bit as she recollected this, seeing her tiny infant look at her crying sometimes brought her intense grief. She could never forget an even greater pain she felt that day, when seeing his frail body in the hospital, dying from what Weiss figured out was not stress from that battle, but a lack of parental love when carried. Ruby felt immense guilt from this, she had always thought of him as a thorn in her side rather than an innocent soul, free of the sins of his father. She decided from then on to keep her son and be the most loving mother she could be and never look at him with disdain again.
Here she would start as she leaned down into his crib and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Thorn ceased his crying at this sudden affection, soon giving off a little giggle that made his grandfather and mother chuckle. Happy to him smile, Ruby then removed a bit of the small blue t-shirt on him and gave him some raspberries, causing the infant to squirm with laughter, soon grabbing her face and hair as he gave off cries of joy. After gingerly removing his hands and feet from her face, she picked up her son and cradled him in her arms with a mellowed look of happiness and love as she looked down on him, her parents coming closer to see their grandchild happily.
"I love you so much my little Rose" Ruby said tenderly. In her thoughts, she meant every word honestly. She no longer felt any guilt for how she treated him as a thorn in her side when in her womb. She knew now it wasn't his fault for what she endured, and now all she could do was fulfill her dreams, of being both a great huntress like her mom and a loving mother to her son.
Thorn only responded with a yawn as he began to tire out from all the excitement. He nuzzled into his mothers bosom and arms as her father gave his daughter he was so proud of a kiss on the cheek. As she set her son down in his crib she yawned a bit herself, obviously tired from getting up in the middle of the night. She gave her parents a warm look, receiving a nod in return, as she soon returned to her room to get some rest.
"She's definitely off to a better start than I was" Raven said quietly and awkwardly as to not wake her step-grandson. Taiyang gave her a look with an eyebrow raised as if saying "You didn't even last one week!" but this caused a bewildered Taiyang to look on at his youngest daughter with a smile a mixed with a sense of pride and sorrow. He was happy she was visiting during her weekend off at Beacon with his grandson, but knew how exhausting things have been for her since having a child forced upon her. He knew his youngest had many burdens before even becoming a mother, such as being the leader of her team. Despite her counseling sessions, he could never shake the feeling Ruby was hiding more pain than she was willing to show to him or even her sister Yang, whom he bitterly remembered had taken time off school for an "adventure", as she put it, but was most likely just destroying bars and picking fights with gangs. Despite this, Yang was always there for her sister, whether it was aiding Ruby through her birth or giving her shoulder for Ruby to cry on after her attack. Now Taiyang feared without Yang around for comfort, Ruby could become overwhelmed by all her burdens and trauma. Little did he know at the time, in a few short days his fears would be confirmed.
