-Author's Note-

Hello everyone, I have returned with a different profile. I felt that starting anew would do me some good and the first thing I wanted to do was work on 'Happiness'. You see, a lot of bad stuff has happened in my life in the past year. In fact, the past few years have been extremely difficult and the last few months were just torture. Even now I am struggling with everything happening but I am somehow coping. I am hoping that returning to writing stories can help.

Now, I am rewriting this story as I wasn't happy with how I did it originally. There was nothing wrong with it but I constantly felt like I could do better so hopefully this chapter shows exactly that. I know it's a shorter chapter than the first chapter of 'Happiness', but that is mostly because I took out the flashbacks. The reason for this was that they just felt like filler. I copied exactly what the episode did and it didn't feel right. Anyway, I'll be aiming to write about 5,000 words per chapter if I can manage it. Please do not expect regular updates. I am horrible for keeping to stories and will be slow with this. If anyone wishes to try their hand with this story's idea, then please go ahead, I would love to see what others can come up with.

Also, if anyone sees any mistakes, please let me know and I will do my best to fix them. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

I hope you enjoy the new version of 'Happiness', which I have renamed 'Broken'.

Word count (Not including Author's Note): 3410.

The sun rose up over Jump City, bathing the large city in a beautiful orange glow. The city's citizens either woke up and got ready for their day, or continued to sleep and rest for the day ahead. But for one person, the ray of sunshine that appeared from the window and onto her forced her to groggily open her violet eyes and glare at the interfering light. The Teen Titan member known as Raven sighed as the light refused to leave. Lifting herself up a little, she raised her hand and encased the white curtains in her magic before shutting them fully. Closing her eyes once the annoying task was done, Raven let her head hit the pillow before turning over, allowing her short purple hair to splay about.

Only once she got comfortable again did Raven open her eyes and look confused. She had no windows in her bedroom but she had just clearly closed the curtains on one. Turning back over and staring at the window, Raven slowly used her magic to open the curtains, revealing her home, the Titans Tower, sitting in the distance and standing proudly on an island.

This was not her bedroom. This was not her home.

Her eyes still wide, Raven looked around the room she was in. White walls, no pictures, and the door to the room she was in was open, showing another room with a dark leather couch just in her view. Her eyes then fell to the floor and it made her freeze in shock. It was her clothes, all scattered about on the floor. Instinctively she checked and realised that she was naked under the cream-coloured covers.

Trying to take deep breaths to calm herself, Raven turned her head when she managed to connect the dots. Laying next to her, and still thankfully asleep, Raven saw a man she had never seen before in her life. She got a good look at him as he lay there face up. He had blond spiky hair and some odd whisker marks on his face. Holding the sheets close to her body, Raven began to hyperventilate in panic as she started to understand the situation she was in. Still trying to catch her breath, she got out of bed and took a shaky step on the floor.

She quickly got dressed, trying to be as quiet as she could. But just as she managed to put on her cloak, which slightly helped her feel better, she heard the man behind her move. Turning around, Raven watched as he sat up and stretched with a yawn, with the sheet thankfully still covering his lower half. While she oddly watched the stranger wake up, she couldn't help but notice the large scar on the left side of his chest. She blinked as he looked around before finally looking her in the eyes. They stared, violet eyes meeting deep blue.

While it only lasted maybe a minute, it felt like hours for Raven as she and the stranger stayed silent, neither knowing what to say to the other. She was desperate to use her powers and teleport away but she couldn't for some reason. Eventually, the man spoke, choosing his words carefully, "Can you wait in the other room? I'd like to get dressed and then maybe we can sort all this out." Not knowing what else to do, Raven just gave a slight nod before leaving the room and closing the door behind her. With a sigh, the man let himself fall back onto his bed. "What the hell have I gotten myself into?" he muttered to himself before getting up and into some clothes.

Raven stood in the middle of the man's living room, unsure of what to do. At least she had a moment to calm herself as she took several deep breaths while ignoring the noise of the stranger moving around in his bedroom. Glancing around, Raven took in the room and realised how plain the place looked. Nearly every wall was white with no pictures or frames anywhere. The living room she was in just had a single two-seater couch, a TV unit against the wall with an average-sized TV on top and a dark wood coffee table in between the unit and the couch. Taking a seat on the couch, Raven tried to remember everything that happened the night before but struggled as she could only recall bits and pieces.

Raven was suddenly broken from her thoughts by the sound of a door opening. She glanced in the bedroom's direction, seeing the stranger close the door. Now that the shock of the events was mostly over with, Raven took a second to take in the stranger's appearance. He wore a black shirt that hugged his body, showing off his physique, and a regular pair of jeans. She didn't recognise him at all so how did she wind up in his bed?

"Tea or coffee?" he asked, walking over to his kitchen.

The man's voice slightly startled Raven. "Uh, tea, please," she answered.

The man nodded before preparing her drink and a drink for himself, which she saw was black coffee. It only took a couple of minutes, which were quite awkward, before he finally sat down on the couch on the opposite side of her. She noted that he was keeping a little distance and was a little thankful. Holding the cup of tea in her hands, Raven gave it a gentle blow before sipping it. "...This is good," she said, breaking the awkward silence. It had a mint flavour that wasn't too strong or too weak.

"Thanks. I thought it might help things a little," the man admitted as he put his cup down on the table. "I'm not gonna lie, this doesn't normally happen to me. In fact, this has never happened to me before, waking up with a stranger."

"You don't... remember what happened?" Raven asked in a surprised questioning tone.

Closing his eyes, the stranger looked deep in thought. "I remember sitting here on my couch. I was just watching TV but that's about it," he admitted, "Next thing I know, I'm waking up and you're here."

Raven could tell that he was being truthful. "I don't remember anything either," she said, "I... I don't even know your name." She kept her eyes on the drink in her hands, not wanting to look up.

"Naruto." That made her look and see that the man was giving her a small smile, "My name is Naruto Uzumaki. And you are Raven of the Teen Titans, obviously," he said, nodding towards the TV. Raven smiled back at that. She doubted there was anyone in the city who didn't know her or her friends. "So you can't remember last night either?"

"The last thing I remember is fighting a villain with my team," she said, sipping her tea. "My team and I were fighting Doctor Light. Like you, the next thing I remember is waking up in your bed." Just saying that brought a blush to Raven's cheeks. She still couldn't believe anything of this has happened.

"...Listen," Naruto said after a moment, getting Raven's attention. "Because neither of us can remember, I can understand if you don't want to talk about it for now. I mean, you're a hero and I doubt you do this regularly. And I promise that I won't say anything to the news or anyone else. This'll be our secret."

Hearing this, Raven felt a little more at ease. "Thank you," she said. She really didn't want to think about last night, not that she could. She and her team were always bombarded and stalked by various news outlets, reporters, and journalists. It was a terrifying thought if even one of them found out about this. She didn't even want her friends to know about this. "Oh!" Raven realised, putting down her cup as she reached for something on her belt.

"What's wrong?" Naruto asked, wondering if it was the tea. He doubted that as it was obvious the young woman opposite him seemed to enjoy it.

"My friends are probably wondering where I am," Raven said, opening her communicator. There were several missed calls and a few messages asking where she was and if she was alright. Idly she was amazed that Robin hadn't tracked her communicator and come find her. The device in her hands suddenly went off, making the grey-skinned girl jump in fright. "Hello?" she answered, "Yes, I'm fine... I said I'm fine... Another attack? Alright... Yeah, I'll be there soon."

Seeing Raven hang up with a frown, Naruto said, "I'm guessing you have to go."

"Yeah, Cinderblock is going on another rampage downtown again," Raven explained, sounding as if this was a normal occurrence.

Standing up, Naruto walked her to his door and opened it, letting the hero out. "I know this was something that you didn't want, and it must be hard to not remember anything, but if you ever just want to talk then you know where I live."

"I don't think I'll be back," Raven admitted, feeling guilty as if this was somehow her fault. "None of this should have happened. And I'm sorry that you somehow got dragged into this mess-"

"You don't have to apologise," Naruto interrupted. "Neither of us remembers, so we can't exactly put the blame on each other or ourselves until we get some answers, can we?"

Seeing that the man still held a soft smile, Raven couldn't help but return it, the small guilty feeling she felt disappearing. "Thank you," she quietly said. Slowly she sunk into the ground with her magic, leaving Naruto alone, standing in his doorway.

He stood there, staring at the spot Raven had disappeared for a few more seconds before closing his door and walking back into his apartment. "Why can't I remember?" he muttered to himself with narrowed eyes, curious as to what happened last night for things to end up as they did. Seeing the two cups sitting on the coffee table, he took them to his kitchen and put them in the sink. But as soon as his hands left them, he noticed that they started shaking again. It wasn't a violent shake but it was enough for Naruto to clench his hands into fists as he tried to control it.

"This is gonna be a long day."

It was now close to midnight and Raven was now in her bedroom, sitting on the edge of her bed. She was rubbing her temples in annoyance at everything that had happened today. After leaving Naruto's home, she arrived to see Cinderblock throwing Beastboy around who was in the form of a rhino. It was just her luck that green changling was thrown in her direction. Thankfully, Beastboy turned back to normal at the last second before he slammed into her.

After that, anything she would throw at the hulking monster would just bounce off of him without leaving a scratch. Robin would mostly throw exploding disks but they were ineffective and so was his bo-staff, which he constantly used. Beastboy was only able to halt Cinderblock's movements when he was a large enough animal, but eventually Cinderblock would manage to overpower and throw him away again. Only Starfire could match his strength and with Cyborg's Sonic Cannon, they managed to knock the behemoth unconscious.

Once Cinderblock had been taken away by the authorities, Robin immediately rounded on Raven and began questioning her along with the others. She was touched by the concern they were all showing but the constant questions were annoying as hell. They just wouldn't accept that 'Nothing happened' was a suitable answer. When they realised they weren't getting any clear answer out of her, they decided to fill her in on what happened to Doctor Light after she left. Apparently, the man's tech suit was severely damaged and he was completely traumatized by what she did to him but was otherwise unharmed.

'Thankfully he's alive,' Raven thought, knowing that if the man had died then she would have never forgiven herself. If it wasn't for her Rage then none of this would have happened.

In her mind, her emotions have taken form. Happiness, Knowledge, Timid, all her emotions have taken form and they all look exactly like her except for their clothing being different colours, which correspond with what emotion they are. For example, Happiness is pink, Bravery is Green, and so on. Rage was her worst emotion and is one of the reasons she has to control her emotions every waking second. Somehow Rage had gotten loose in her mind, which is why she lost control last night. But it still didn't explain her lack of memory and why she and Naruto slept together.

God, just the thought of it brought a blush to Raven's face.

Anyway, if it wasn't for her two friends, Cyborg and Beastboy, breaking into her room and using her mirror to gain access to her mind and meeting her emotions, then Rage would have taken over and killed everything in sight. For now, at least, Rage was locked away in the back of her mind. Even now, she could hear the red-cloak-wearing emotion screaming and cursing, promising to destroy everything in the name of her father the second she could take control again.

Getting an idea, Raven got off her bed and walked to the middle of her room. Taking a deep breath, she began to float before sitting cross-legged in the air. Closing her eyes, she began to chant, "Azarath Metrion Zinthos, Azarath Metrion Zinthos, Azarath Metrion Zinthos." Just as it always had, her magic began to take effect as her eyes began to glow white.

Opening her eyes, Raven saw that she was within her own mind, just as she was earlier. It was a dark world, filled with floating rocks. The skies were covered in small white lights that looked like stars. Her emotions named it 'Nevermore' but Raven didn't care what it was called as she walked down the rocky path that formed before her. Hearing wings flapping nearby, she glanced to her side and saw a tree sitting on its own floating island. There were dozens of black ravens sitting on it, each staring at her with four red eyes. Even after all these years, those birds always made her uncomfortable as the eyes reminded her too much of her father.

"Rae-Rae!"

Before Raven could react, she was glomped from behind and it nearly sent her falling to the ground but she managed to catch her footing just in time. "Happy," Raven growled, pushing the object away and turning to glare at it. The object was Happiness, her emotion that looked exactly like her except she wore a pink cloak. "I told you not to do that."

"But I wanted to see you!" Happy said happily, a big grin on her face. "Did you bring any more friends? I miss Cy and BB, are they here too? They were so much fun!" Raven just let the peppy emotion talk as she walked away, not in the mood to deal with her right now. Happy just loved to talk nonstop about anything that caught her interest. Eventually, Happy realised she was alone and pouted before chasing after the original. Catching up, she waved her hands and said, "Why did you leave?! I thought we were having a nice chat!"

"I'm busy," Raven said, knowing that Happy would just keep talking otherwise. "I need to speak with Knowledge."

"Aw! She's no fun!" whined Happy, "All she does is read! That's boring!"

Rolling her eyes at her emotions childish behaviour, Raven kept walking and eventually reached a large stone archway. Using this, Raven could transport herself anywhere she wanted within her mind and all she had to do is focus. So, thinking of Knowledge and her domain, Raven walked through the archway. The scenery changed from hundreds of floating stone platforms to a library of all things. There were bookcases everywhere, stretching as far as the eye could see, filled with countless books of various shapes, colours, and sizes.

Walking forward, Raven glanced at the bookcases as she walked by them, recognising books that she had read in the past. "I was wondering when you would show up here," Raven heard ahead of her. Looking forward, she saw a large table with an emotion of hers sitting and reading while drinking tea. This emotion was wearing a yellow cloak and, for some reason, a pair of black-rimmed glasses.

"You knew I would come?" Raven asked with a raised eyebrow, taking a seat at the table. Happy had followed too but she was just running around taking books off shelves and letting them drop to the floor.

"Of course," Knowledge answered, taking her eyes off the book she was reading and looking at Raven. Idly she waved a hand and made the books on the floor fly back to their shelves. "I am you, after all, or a part of you at least."

"Then you know why I am here."

Rolling her eyes, Knowledge looked at her book again. "As I said, I am you. Therefore, I know everything you know... But then, there is something that we both wish to know, isn't there?" But, before Raven could say anything, Knowledge continued, "Unfortunately, your time here is wasted. I do not know what events happened last night."

Now that surprised Raven. She was sure Knowledge would have the answers she needed but apparently not. "How do you not know?" Raven then asked with a furrowed brow."

"My apologies, I should have been clearer," Knowledge said but she didn't sound the least bit apologetic. If anything she sounded a little sarcastic. "I have seen your fight with Doctor Light, and I have even seen Rage take control. But that is as far as the memory goes."

"I don't understand."

"As Rage wandered through the city, something happened," Knowledge explained. "She sensed something. What that was, I do not know, but it somehow lead her to Naruto."

None of this was making any sense to Raven. "What could Rage have possibly sensed?" she asked, "And how did it lead her to Naruto?"

"I'm... not sure," admitted the yellow-cloaked emotion. "It was only for a second but it was powerful enough to attract Rage." That concerned Raven. Rage was obsessed with death and destruction as well as power. So if she went after whatever it was last night, then it had to be extremely powerful. "And..."

"And what?" Raven insisted.

"And I'm certain it came from Naruto."

Leaving her mind and returning to her body, Raven set her feet on the ground before she sat down on her bed again. She needed to process everything that was discussed with Knowledge. Somehow Rage not only managed to get loose and take control, nearly killing Doctor Light in the process, but she had sensed something dark and powerful enough to affect her. And whatever that something was, had something to do with Naruto. The conversation then ended with Knowledge advising her to speak to either Rage or Naruto.

She refused to speak to Rage, that emotion would never help her unless it was somehow to her benefit. Plus she would most likely lie. But she also didn't want to believe that Naruto had anything to do with this. He had been kind to her and seemed to genuinely tell the truth. And while she talked to him this morning, she had never sensed anything out of the ordinary with him.

Besides, it was now closer to one in the morning. She had been inside her head longer than she thought. 'I'll go see him tomorrow,' she decided, giving a small yawn. Feeling exhausted all of a sudden, Raven crawled into her bed, not bothering to even change her clothes. Turning off the light, she quickly drifted off to sleep.
