At first, I was startled by not only the familiar face I had seen many times from the movies, but his wings wrapped around me. But once I saw the look on his face, I knew he meant well.
"What were you doing here out here all alone?" he asked.
I told Blu that I used to a be human, that I was turned into a bird and I had no idea how or why it happened. Although he was skeptical, he realized my situation reminded him of the plots to a few movies he used to watch with his owner Linda before he came to Rio, the kind of movies where the main character gets turned into an animal and has to change and improve himself in order to become human again.
But before I could ruminate on this, Blu said, "Follow me to my hollow. It's nice and warm." I agreed to come with him, and to my thrill and amazement, I discovered that I could fly. However, it was difficult because it had started to rain heavily as I was following Blu to his hollow.
Nevertheless, we kept going until we finally reached Blu's hollow near a bird sanctuary that bore his name.
Despite the heavy rain, I felt free and exhilarated as I flew through the trees.
We were both soaked and exhausted when we landed in the hollow, and just as we were catching our breaths, Blu's mate, Jewel, walks in, saying "Oh, thank goodness! I was starting to get worried about you."
Blu said, "Sorry, I found this bird cold, wet, and alone on the edge of a lake, and I brought him here."
"Hello," I said, waving to Jewel, who was looking at me.
"He says he's a human who was turned into a bird, but he doesn't know how or why. I know it sounds crazy, but I think we should help him."
Jewel looked at me with a nervous expression on her face and said, "I don't know, what if he's working with smugglers?"
I said, "What? Why would I be working with smugglers? I would never get involved with something that heartless. I like birds, especially ones like you."
It was at that point where she started to calm down, realizing that I meant no harm.
Blu then said, "We really should help him out, Jewel. It's the right thing to do."
Jewel looked at me again, and said, "Okay. Although I don't trust humans all that well after what happened with the smugglers and the loggers, If it means that much to you, I will be willing to help you help him."
"Thank you for understanding, Jewel." "Now let's get some sleep, it's been a long day."
As they were about to walk off, Blu looked over at me as I was shivering again from the cold, and said, You can sleep with us if you would like. It will help you warm up."
I said, "Okay" and after I walked into the part of the hollow where they slept, both Blu and Jewel wrapped their wings around me. Instantly, I felt a comfort that I had never felt before. It was like being wrapped in a cloud, and it didn't take long for me to drift off to sleep in their warm embrace.
