Izuku remembered when he was little, how his family had been back then.
His family had always had problems, he knew. But he was four. He never really realized how bad it was, mainly because his siblings and his mother protected him from a lot of it.
But despite that, he still remembered his family being happy, at least sometimes. Genuinely happy.
Maybe dad wasn't always around when they were happy, but he could picture everyone's smiles. Everyone's laughs. Back when he felt his whole family was his.
But now...
After Shoto's quirk developed, and, well, Izuku's didn't, things changed.
It felt like his family split in half. Him, and his older siblings and mom on one side, and dad and Shoto on the other.
He hardly ever saw his twin brother anymore. Hardly ever got to just hang out with him or talk to him like he used to. No one did.
And it was all dads fault. He split the family apart, he kept Shoto constantly busy with training and being tutored and then going to private schools away from everyone else.
Dad took away his twin brother form him, to the point where he hardly felt like he even knew Shoto anymore.
Then, Izuku was five. And the worst year of his life passed by painfully.
Mom couldn't take it anymore. It wasn't her fault.
Izuku had been there. He'd heard the phone call. He'd seen mom's face. He'd heard Shoto's screams. He'd watched the people take his mom away.
And once again, it was all his dads fault.
Then dad was mean to Touya. Izuku's best friend was upset and angry, Izuku tried to help but only made things worse. Then, before he knew it, there was fire. Too much fire. His best friend was gone.
And again. It was all dads fault.
That day, Shoto hugged him. It was a small form of comfort, but an amazing one, being that he hadn't hugged his brother in so long.
But it was the last time he'd even really associate with his brother for a long time.
After that, things with Shoto got worse. He never saw his brother anymore. They went to different schools. Slept in different rooms. He only ever caught glimpses of Shoto.
And dad hated Izuku. He would yell at Izuku for every little mistake, he would hit Izuku when he made him mad. He would call Izuku his biggest mistake, and say that only Shoto should've been born.
Mom and Touya were gone. Dad hated him. All he had was Fuyumi and Natsuo. Dad and Shoto were in another world.
His home life was misery.
But school wasn't any better.
No one likes a quirkless kid. A useless, quirkless piece of garbage.
Katsuki Bakugou, a kid that had been in Izuku's class since kindergarten, was constantly making fun of him and bullying him, along with other kids doing the same, especially in middle school. Teasing and harsh words became quirk abuse and harassment.
Until Bakugou told Izuku to take a swan dive.
And although Izuku hated to admit it, he did consider it.
That's what Bakugou and the rest of his school seemed to want. And dad.
But he couldn't do that to his siblings. Not after Touya and Mom. It would kill Fuyumi and Natsuo. And even if they didn't know each other much anymore, he hoped Shoto would care too.
Besides, he still had the hope that maybe he could be a hero.
He could fix something, make Endeavor proud of him, show the other kids he wasn't useless, if he could just make it into UA at least.
But when All Might saved him from the sludge villain that day, and afterwards, crushed his only hope and left him alone on a rooftop...
The temptation was almost to much.
Almost.
But somehow, he made it all the way back down those stairs and down the sidewalk, crying and gripping his wet notebook.
So later that day, when his body moved on its own for the second time in his life, and when he later got offered the chance to actually achieve his dreams by his idol, you can imagine the emotions he was feeling and why he broke down crying.
And the reawakening of those emotions when he got the message from his idol, and now mentor, that he got accepted into UA.
But when he got into class 1-A, he happened to be sharing a classroom with two people he "knew" and "was friends with".
Once again, he was stuck in the same class as Katsuki Bakugou, and for the first time in over a decade, he would be spending most of his time around his twin brother Shoto.
For the next three years.
And neither of them knew he had a quirk.
Oh dear.
