Chapter 5

You could be the world that I'm fighting for

but you leave me here, leave me wanting more

Why'd you tell me no, why you holding off?

Cause everything we do

Everything we do it's a lot like love

A lot like love

A lot like love…

The Voyagers Ft. Haris - A Lot Like Love (Oliver Heldens Edit)

Author's Note: I took a little creative liberty and resurrected the great Don Rickles for this scene. :)

Stepping out into the bright Las Vegas sunshine, Erin felt she could breathe better.

Anthony had decided he wanted to see a Wayne Newton show first.

Apparently he was a big fan of the classics.

Erin enjoyed the show. Feeling like she could forget about their situation and just enjoy their time in Vegas.

As usual, it was just fun to be around Anthony.

He seemed to have put aside his hurt feelings which Erin greatly appreciated. She didn't want him resenting her the whole trip.

She found herself smiling and laughing as Anthony wanted to stop at every touristy shop and eat from every vendor along the street.

"Whaaat?" he protested when she said something as he dragged her into yet another Vegas tourist shop full of trinkets and cheesy t-shirts.

"Look Erin, we never get away. We never take a vacation. We don't even leave New York city! I gotta soak it up." He grinned at her.

"Ok, ok," she agreed, smiling back.

He impulsively grabbed her hand and pulled her into the shop.

She also noticed he had quite the protective instincts around her. Of course he had always been that way. Putting himself in harm's way rather than her.

But he made a point of holding her back from crossing the street every time until he was absolutely sure that it was safe to walk. And then every time he would grab her hand.

Erin didn't mind.

It was almost like playing pretend with Anthony.

And she let herself just get caught up in it after being on the Vegas street for a while.

Before the next show they decided they better check the Clark County courthouse to see how to go about filing for a divorce.

Apparently it took one to three weeks.

Erin sighed as she gathered the paperwork from the clerk. Anthony just shrugged his shoulders at her as if he was saying it is, what it is.

She certainly didn't want to take this back to New York with her but oh well.

Anthony decided he wanted to see the legendary Don Rickles perform live so that was next on the list.

Don Rickles was known for heckling his own audiences.

Anthony was laughing like a lunatic at his jokes which came at the expense of others' until he turned the table on him.

Don started picking on Erin.

Erin sat shock-faced as Anthony stood up and raised his fist, shouting back at Don Rickles.

"Heyy! That's my wife you're talking about you scheister!"

Don paused.

"Anthony!" Erin hissed at him as everyone stared in their direction. "Sit back down. It's all right…"

"No it's not," he said angrily but he listened and sat back down while Don moved on to heckle some other poor sap.

Erin was completely embarrassed but inside she was secretly pleased a bit. It was kind of nice hearing Anthony speak about her in that way. And to stand up for her like that.

He was always doing that for her.

It actually didn't sound so scary when he called her his wife. It was endearing. But she just wasn't ready for that role.

After the show Erin suggested they find a change of clothes for that evening.

They had each only brought one outfit thinking they were just flying back the next day.

"Anthony." Erin said his name as they were walking down the Strip.

"Yea?" he stopped to face her.

"Um…" She laughed. "This might sound kind of funny but it's been a really long time and uh…I was wondering if you would take me dancing tonight?"

Anthony blinked back at her in amazement. He hadn't expected that request.

"I mean if you don't want to, it's ok…"

"Nah, let's do it. I'll take you, Erin." He nodded, warming up to the idea.

"My friends and I used to club in Manhattan in my wilder days…"

"Wild-er?" Anthony laughed. "Oh boy, I can't even picture you anymore wild than last night," he snickered and Erin blushed as she smacked him on the arm.

"Heyy!" He laughed trying to defend himself.

They found a swanky shop where they could find some evening clothes.

Anthony picked out a pale blue silk shirt and black dress pants.

Erin found a slinky and sparkly "clubbing" kind of dress with spaghetti straps that hugged her figure just right.

Not skanky but sexy.

Anthony saw her pull it off the rack as he was browsing the store and his jaw dropped and eyes widened.

"So uh…you gonna model that one for me?"

"No. You can wait until tonight," she teased him.

"Well you let me know if you need any help in the dressing room," he winked at her.

Erin laughed as she went into the dressing room. Alone.

Turns out she did need his help.

The zipper was in the most awkward place and she couldn't reach back behind her to grab it.

She slowly poke her head over the top of the low-cut dressing room door.

"Anthony!" she half-whispered trying to spot him in the store.

He suddenly appeared from the side, almost running.

"Yea?"

"Um, I can't get the zipper, it's stuck."

He smiled broadly, "Well let me help you my Irish Rose." he offered.

Erin held up the front with one hand so nothing would be popping out while she pointed to the back of the dress where she couldn't reach the zipper.

Anthony put one hand on her bare back as he steadied the zipper with his other hand.

Erin felt a shiver go up her spine and into her neck when he touched her.

Her skin was cool but inside it felt like a raging fever.

Anthony got the zipper up and turned her around to get a good look at her.

"Oh wow. Definitely a hottie," he grinned that boyish grin at her and Erin chuckled.

His touch on her skin had her slightly rattled and she was afraid of what it made her think about…

She moved towards the floor length mirror in the dressing room and admired the way it held to her curves. And her strappy sandals would go nicely with the dress.

Anthony watched her and in the mirror she saw his expression change.

He wasn't laughing anymore. But he was giving her that look.

Damn him.

She turned around and could feel herself wanting to grab him like she did when they were in his office together flinging each other against the filing cabinets.

Her face was feeling hot and the temperature in the room seemed to have risen to 100.

He was standing closely to her and Erin could feel the heat coming off of his body.

His eyes were just looking back at her. Hungrily.

Erin held herself back with restraint, just barely, and instead put a hand on his bare arm, and leaned forward to give him a soft kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you. Now if you don't mind," she ushered him out with her eyes so that she could change back in her street clothes.

He nodded and quietly said "Anytime" as he walked out of the dressing room.

Erin let out the shaky breath she'd apparently been holding once she had the room to herself.

A/N: Hope you're enjoying. Let me know your thoughts. I love writing these two and pretty soon there will be another intersection with my other Blue Bloods fic about Baker and the Commissioner in The Discovery.
