Chapter 3: An echo of a broken calm
Naruto groaned because of the blinding white that covered his vision from the lamp positioned just above his head facing his face, He struggled against the restraints of the chair.
'Ah wunderbar mein little subject is ready for his daily shots' an excited voice exclaimed, Naruto could see the silhouette of a man holding a large syringe.
'Richtofen... is that you?' he asked before he was promptly hit in the face.
'ZAT IS DOCTOR RICHTOFEN to you swine, DOCTOR YOU HEAR ME!' Edward yelled at Naruto who could only nod his head towards the crazed doctor who injected the serum laced with element 115 into his arm.
Naruto could only flinch as he felt the liquid enter is body, to look to Richtofen who seemed distracted but quickly noticed him staring.
'YOU HEAR ZEM TOO DON'T YOU, ZAT IS WHY YOU WERE STARING IN MEIN DIERECTION?' Richtofen exclaimed.
'Richt.. Doctor are you okay I don't understand what you're talking about' Naruto asked fear lacing his voice as Richtofen had always been strange that look in his eyes, he looked on the verge of insanity.
'Ze voices do you not hear zem? Zey have been with me since I came back from mein temple... Oh zat reminds me let me tell you a little story about mein most recent of escapades' Richtofen said with Pride clearing his throat. 'You see mein teleporter vas a GREAT success, zat it transported me to ze moon an'
'WHAT the moon are you crazy Doc' Naruto exclaimed before he was slapped.
'VILL, YOU SHUT UP; I'm telling mein story where was I... Oh yes ze moon is where I stayed finding an artifact of great power but shortly after I made contact with ze artifact I felt a jolt of static and ZE VOICES ze are so loud in mein head, but I was teleported once more to a jungle vhere I met a primitive bunch I showed zem ze wonders of electricity... I BECAME ZHEIR GOD! Zhey would do anything thing and I mean anything I asked of zem' Richtofen said in a sing song voice while squirming to himself, Naruto listened as he couldn't do anything else since he was still strapped down.
'I got zem to mine for 115 INGENIUS I know zhey constructed mein temple and zhis is where I encountered an artifact called ze Focusing Stone, ZE VOICES WERE SO LOUD' he said cheerfully, Naruto looking on with a face of confusion.
'Zhen, I decided I would like to check on mein little subjects at the facility I'M SHO GLAD YOU MISHED ME, now we can continue our fun' he said with a cheerful grin which soured 'but I'm sorry to tell you Ze DOCTOR vill be taking a leap of absence to PURSUE MEIN GOALS ' Richtofen exclaimed catching Naruto by surprise.
'Where are you going?' Naruto asked frantically as when Richtofen left last time things started to become confusing similarities bled into new things like a sense of déjà vu for him and the other subjects.
'Back to ze moon vith Doctor Schuster ve have very important work to do, it gets me ALL HOT UN BOTHERED' Richtofen moaned out.
Naruto cried out in pain as his vision started to swim giving him a migraine before everything went black.
When Naruto opened his eyes, he was lying on his bed something seemed wrong missing even, he looked over to the others 'Hey guys does something seem off to you?' he asked frantically hating the eerie calm of the room.
'Shut it child, Nikolai is trying to sleep' he belched out reeking of vodka.
'Now that you mention it something feels wrong missing almost' replied Tank as Takeo nodded along agreeing to the statement.
'It would be best for rest to find us and ponder this in the morning' Takeo said as he lay on his bunk facing the wall ending the conversation allowing the four to sleep off their concerns.
'WAKE UP SUBJECTS' a scientist shouted waking the four, Naruto didn't recognise the man he must be a new hire, but something seemed off clawing at the back of his mind something was wrong something was missing but he had no clue to what that might be.
'Ah men in white coats take Nikolai to vodka as usual Da?' as he followed the man out of the cell and out of site when more doctors that Naruto didn't recognise lead the other two out, leaving him there a sharp ringing pain in the back of his head until a familiar face met him from the doorway.
'Maxis?' Naruto asked squinting his eyes in suspicion as the doctor was usually too busy with his other projects to conduct any tests on him in person.
'Yes, my boy it's me, today will be a little different I would like you to meet someone' he said while guiding Naruto down the corridors till they took a different turn leaving him baffled.
'Where are we going the usual room where you get the men to talk to me is that way' Naruto stated pointing behind him causing Maxis to chuckle.
'Naruto my boy I told you today will be different I would like to see how you interact with someone closer to your own age' the doctor stated as he unlocked a door leading Naruto inside, he saw a brunette girl stroking a four-legged hairy creature.
'Naruto I would like you to meet my daughter Samantha Maxis' he said catching the girl's attention walking over to them greeting them with a smile.
'As my father said I'm Samantha, it's nice to meet you Naruto' she said beaming with happiness finally having company her own age instead of being couped up in this room with her dog.
'It's nice to meet you Samantha but I have to ask what is that?' he asked pointing at the dog causing Samantha to giggle and Maxis to frown.
'Zhat is my dog Fluffy and she's going to have puppies in two months' Samantha stated proudly and with clear excitement on her face.
'Naruto we're going to have to lessen your doses of medicine if they are affecting your memories to this degree' Maxis stated with a small smile directed towards the boy who looked on indifferently as he would still be receiving treatment anyway. 'So, I hope you have fun today, I will be leaving now as I have work to attend to. Naruto I will take you to your room when I return' getting a nod of confirmation from the blond as the doctor left the room, leaving the children and canine to themselves.
'Naruto how old are you? What's your favourite colour? What do you do for fun here?' Samantha fired of rapidly with a smile on her face.
'Slow down one at a time' Naruto replied in deadpan but then took a deep breath in preparation 'I am fourteen years old; I like the colour red and hate the colour orange... There isn't much to do besides talk to my roommates.' Naruto replied
'Oh, vhat are they like' Samantha quickly asked waiting in anticipation as Naruto tried to describe the others in a way that didn't make them sound too bad.
'Well first there's Tank he is a nice guy just very loud, then there's Takeo he is calm and collected and finally there's Nikolai he is a bit oblivious to his surroundings' and he smells bad.' Naruto stated the last one making Samantha giggle.
'Your names are all funny' she said still laughing.
'Well, that's because we're not from Germany, Tank is from a big country from America, Nikolai comes from a place called Russia he keeps saying that it is bigger and stronger than where Tank is from. Takeo comes from an Island nation called Japan and by my appearance they guess I was a part of Asia they call it a continent, but I don't really understand the difference' Naruto said shrugging.
They spent the rest of the time playing with Fluffy before Maxis had come back to get him tested and taken back to his cell with the others. Seeing Samantha before his tests and going to sleep after discussing the days happenings with his roommates became a regular routine until one night.
There was a loud flash of light and a scream that came through the cell's barred windows jolting the four awake for them to notice their cell door swing open revealing the facility to be dark.
'The power must've gone out, you boys up for an adventure?' Dempsey asked
'Ret us get to the source of the proberem' Takeo replied confidently walking ahead with Dempsey. Naruto looked at Nikolai who sighed muttering something about stupid Americans before catching up with the others Naruto following behind.
The four walked through the halls until Naruto noticed an odd shape on the wall out lined in white but when he pointed this out to the others, they seemed to know what it was dismissing it until after Naruto brushed his hand up against it an M1911 appeared in his hands making him shout out in surprise getting the others attentions and getting them their guns they continued down the hall.
'Okay kiddo just point it till what you want to shoot is between those metal notches at the front and back of the gun just squeeze that trigger and blast it away' Dempsey instructed before they came to the outside where there was a machine with a closed door on a platform and a man in a Nazi uniform also wielding a M1911 he seemed familiar to all of them.
