Back In the Cafeteria
The sound of Daniel's body hitting the floor bounced off the cafeteria walls. The zombie apocalypse took everything from Megan. She never had Daniel and somehow, he was taken from her - and she was a hypocrite but Kyle jr. was right. Shooting people in the head solved a lot of problems. She picked up Daniel's gun and shot the kid and his dad in the head. Megan's students disarmed her without difficulty and guided her out of the school. Zack pushed her down the steps. "I'm head of the school now and only because we knew you before everything you can walk away but listen to me when I say never come back."
The present
An antique beauty floating in the middle of a big body of water rocked back and forth rapidly. Jay wrapped Megan's body in a tarp and rope embellished with wildflowers prior to the storm. He rolled her off the boat under the stars and full moon. The rocks tucked into the tarp made her sink rather quickly. The bite mark on Megan's hand was small. She'd shown the wound off like a new ring. 'What do you want to do?' He'd asked and she said, 'I want you to shoot me in the head.' And he did. He shot her in the head, her body slumped into the chair.
Before the zombie apocalypse Jay trained himself to handle death logically. He never wondered why people die or dwelled on what could've happened - but he couldn't put his finger on what made Megan's death hurt. Their relationship wasn't romantic, he hardly spoke to her, but she was alive. She was there, in the back seat of his rig for months. She watched his back on breeches. She once led a community. He didn't love her, but she was alive. She was a real person who lived in what the majority of the population succumbed to.
51 lost a floater from Georgia. He was pretty outgoing, kind of reminded Kelly of Gallo. The kid was devastated by Johnson's sudden death. A lieutenant teaches cadets like Johnson how to do the job - but changing who a person is, is impossible. Johnson was the kind of person to run into a burning building and die trying to save a teenage boy. He was a hero.
The wood floors beneath Kelly's feet creaked. He made his way through a charred house looking for the teenager's remains. The teenager attempted to break a small glass window in the attic. Which is where Kelly found him. Kelly analyzed his charred body melted to the wall. He was awaiting EMS when the teenager's body slightly readjusted. His shoulder seemingly detached itself from the wall.
EMS loaded the teenager's body onto a stretcher and lowered him downstairs with the assistance of 51. Kelly shrugged off what he thought he'd witnessed. He was hugging Stella in the front yard when everyone gathered around them. Chief prioritized his men's mental health. "Mandatory group therapy today, no exceptions. 51 is out of service for a couple hou-"
'BOOM' The ambulance crashed making a right turn down the street. 51 ran to Brett and Violet's aid. Chief opened the ambulance door and that teen jumped out. Kelly right hooked him after he'd bitten Chief. His black, flakey jaw was clearly dislocated. The teenager lingered sniffing air aimlessly. Civilians screamed in the distance. Kelly ordered 51 to load up. "I'M THE CHIEF." Chief said with a tone of authority and waved his hand dismissively. 51 split up but Kelly grabbed Stella's hand, she pulled away from him. "STELLA! WILL YOU LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE?! WE SHOULD REGROUP AT 51!" Regardless she followed 81 to the explosion.
A man covered in blood stumbled towards a child riding her bike down the street. Kelly ran over and snatched her off the bike. Carrying her he approached Chief who was swaying behind the ambulance with glossy silver eyes. Kelly retreated to the squad truck, he buckled her in. Gallo and Ritter were in the back. Kelly hesitantly pulled off. "WE LEFT EVERYONE! TURN AROUND!" Kelly punched the steering wheel. "WE HAVE A KID! WE NEED TO GET TO THE FIREHOUSE! THERE'S OTHER TRUCKS BACK THERE, THEY'LL MEET US AT THE FIREHOUSE!"
"YOU DON'T KNOW THAT!" Gallo never questions Severide's leadership, but he was scared. Ritter hadn't spoken, him and Gallo had run and hid in the squad truck after being chased by a group of people. One woman's arm was severed.
Many streets were blocked off by abandoned cars. A similar site to the scene they'd just left people running for their lives. He backed up and headed out of the city, he rammed through a couple cars in the process. "Multiple roadblocks on route 51, Squad headed to Benny's Cabin, I repeat multiple roadblocks on route 51, Squad headed to Benny's Cabin. Located near Windlass Woods. Address 133, Hummingbird Road off of Manndale Highway."
