On a lonely alleyway far away from Shining Tower, two fighters are sent flying out of the underground.
On the right side there is Knuckles The Echidna, landing on the ground standing with the fist on the ground. He puts the hood up to hide his face, then goes into a boxer stance.
On the left side there is Sonic The Hedgehog, landing on the ground with a handstand, then jumping off of that stand with a backflip. After that he lands on the ground with two feet, then holds his left hand at his hip while wiggling with the index finger of his right hand around.
"Nice tunnel ya built! Mind if I use it for fast travel?" Sonic asks mockingly.
"What do you want from me? Why did you attack me?" Knuckles frowns. "I left the building empty handed, I have nothing for you. Well, I stole a pack of cigars, but I doubt that's what you came for. So tell me."
"Hey, first things first! Let me introduce myself. I am Sonic, Sonic The Hedgehog, the fastest thing alive! And I want to know who you are!"
Knuckles folds his arms. "None of your business. Go bother someone else."
"Wow, talk about being rude!"
"You ambushed me. Don't expect hospitality."
"I just wanted to talk, but I rolled at ya because I thought you are a felon, due to a whole squad coming to try capture you and all."
Knuckles views his opponent as an idiot now. He doesn't understand why Sonic tries to talk to him despite having thought Knuckles is dangerous. Sonic then continues talking.
"Anyway, I want to know something. You invaded the famous Shining Tower, yet you didn't steal any shiny shit. And I think I know why. You didn't find what you were looking for, right? A Chaos Emerald, perhaps?"
The formerly hooded figure, now known as Knuckles, shouted in disbelief, "You know about them?! How?!"
"So I was right! Nice!! So I thought because we both know about the Chaos Emeralds, it would make sense for us to-"
"You know too much…I can't allow the Chaos Emeralds to be misused by morons like you!"
"Wait! I'm not here to fight!" Sonic says, even though he attacked him first.
Then a rock wall emerges 10 feet around Sonic and Knuckles, forming a circular arena. He tries to spin dash against the wall but he is too weak to break it. It's also way too high to jump over. Sonic thinks he made a huge mistake and is sure that this fight wouldn't happen if he approached the conversation more carefully. Well, this fight seems inevitable.
Sonic makes his first move, attacking Knuckles with a roundhouse kick who ducks under it and attacks with an uppercut, which Sonic dodges with a high speed backflip jump. The hooded figure already realises that his opponent will be difficult to hit. After landing on the ground, Sonic becomes a spinning ball glowing with blue energy and rolls quickly towards his opponent's face. With no fear, Knuckles holds the Spin Dash with his left hand. However he struggles, and the Spin Dash keeps pushing him towards the wall. Eventually, Knuckles is very near the wall, but this is what he wanted to happen.
He holds his right fist glowing with green energy at the rock wall, making it glow green too. Then rocks come out of the wall, covering Knuckles's fist and his arm up to before the elbow begins, creating a rock gauntlet. With the rocky gauntlet equipped, he punches the spinning Sonic, sending him flying against the wall. His back is seemed to be injured at the impact but manages to land on the ground just fine. However, Sonic has a very surprised expression on his face. As the fastest thing alive, he has never been hit by someone before. Meanwhile Knuckles covers his left fist with rocks too.
Unimpressed by this, Sonic roll jumps on Knuckles who blocks it with his left rock gauntlet. Sonic then jumps off of the rock gauntlet forward to the rock wall, landing on it with two feet. Knuckles puts his guard up, expecting Sonic to spin dash towards him.
However, Sonic jumps above him, holding his hands on Knuckles's head, then pushes him to the ground while simultaneously jumping vertically. Sonic then spins in the air, trying to stomp his opponent who is laying on the ground. However, despite wearing rock gauntlets, he manages to roll to the side to not get hit. He stands up quickly and prepares for a punch, but Sonic punches him in the face first.
Sonic grins after landing the punch, but that grin fades away when Sonic realises that his punch did no damage to Knuckles. He simply says "You punch like a middle schooler!" and then stomps on his foot to prevent him from dodging a punch to the stomach. Sonic screamed in pain after that punch. Knuckles tries to punch again, but Sonic kicks him in the stomach to push him away. Sonic then jumps back and takes a moment to take a breath.
"How weak. You have put no effort into training your arms! You don't even know any martial arts!" Knuckles insults his opponent.
"Why should I care about training? I just want to enjoy my life!"
"Grr…it's lazy people like you who don't deserve to have Chaos Aura!" Knuckles shouts angrily.
"Wait, what the hell is Chaos Aura?" the confused Sonic asks.
Knuckles then charged towards Sonic. Sonic waits, because he will be fast enough to dodge Knuckles's attack in the right time anyway. However, Knuckles's right rock gauntlet suddenly glows. He then does a punch movement despite being many feet away from Sonic, and then the rock gauntlet breaks, becoming multiple tiny rocks, shooting at Sonic like bullets!
Sonic reacts too late to the rocks due to being surprised, meaning that he can't run away from the attack fast enough and is forced to block, holding his arms in front of his face. Even though he does that, Sonic keeps his eyes closed out of reflex. The rocks flying at him hurt a lot, and Sonic is not used to getting hurt. Sonic could just spin dash against them, but he is sure that Knuckles knows that too and wants to bait the spin dash for a fatal counterattack, otherwise he wouldn't throw the rocks Sonic can easily counter. That's why he doesn't do it now.
When the barrage of rocks stops, Sonic opens his left eye a bit, looking at what Knuckles does next, but then immediately closes it again out of reflex due to another incoming barrage of rocks, this time from the left rock gauntlet. The barrage is very close to him when he opens his eye, so he is forced to block again. The rocks hitting him make him shout in pain, it hurts too much. It even leaves some wounds on his body.
However, before the barrage of rocks finally ends, Sonic is hit by Knuckles's uppercut, sending him flying towards the wall. Oh no, Knuckles was using the rock barrages not to hit Sonic from a far range, it was to approach and hit him with a powerful uppercut!
In the air, Sonic shouts in pain, but then has a very pissed off look on his face. No more playing games! He becomes a spinning ball again before landing against the wall. But he only creates a very small crater at the impact. Knuckles is confused, thinking that Sonic must have known by now that he can't break through the walls due to being too weak. But that's not what Sonic is trying to do. He rolls across the circular arena in cycles, making the small craters on the rock walls look like rings. He keeps rolling in cycles while building up speed and rolling slightly lower down for each cycle.
"What are you doing?! This is pointless, you're wasting your energy!" Knuckles shouts.
He thinks that Sonic is losing his mind out of desperation, but then the hooded figure is hit by wind which makes his hood go off. The wind gradually becomes stronger the more and faster Sonic rolls in cycles. Now the echidna knows what the hedgehog is doing:
He is creating a tornado!
The tornado is about to pick up Knuckles, but he sends green energy from his legs into the ground, making rocks from beneath cover his legs, creating rock boots. He then purposely falls to the ground on his back, followed by sending green energy into the ground to cover his entire body with rocks. He then stands up imposingly. Sonic keeps rolling faster, but his opponent's massive increase of weight by becoming a rock golem prevents him from being picked up by a tornado. However, once Sonic rolls onto the ground, he stops rolling in cycles and now rolls towards Knuckles.
Thanks to building so much speed at the wall, Sonic's Spin Dash is so fast and strong that it goes through the tornado and destroys most of Knuckles's rock armour at the impact. Thanks to the armour destruction, Knuckles is now carried by the tornado into the air. Sonic then roll jumps up in the air towards his opponent. Thanks to the tornado, Sonic's roll jump is so fast that it is far beyond supersonic speed.
At the impact, Knuckles is sent flying against the wall with the rest of his rock armour breaking while Sonic is bounced off towards the rock wall, which he lands on spinning, charging up another Spin Dash.Sonic then attacks with his Spin Dash. Thanks to his speed, he can penetrate the tornado, making him even faster. Thanks to that boost, the spinning Sonic thrusts Knuckles during the hit through the rock wall, bringing both fighters out of the ring. They then both fall to the ground, laying from all the pain and exhaustion. They both stand up slowly and tremblingly. Then Sonic sees Knuckles without his hood in front of him for the first time. Seeing his face, Sonic then looks very shocked.
"What?! You are…an echidna?! No way!" Sonic says in disbelief. But then they both hear blaring sirens from a far distance. The G.U.N is coming. While Sonic is distracted, Knuckles holds his hands on the ground, sending green energy into the ground beneath him and Sonic. The Hedgehog notices this and tries to run off. But then the ground beneath them decays, creating a pit which looks bottomless due to the darkness.
Sonic and Knuckles fall into the pit. Knuckles who intentionally caused this looks determined and fearless while Sonic is screaming in fear of dying. He doesn't want to die. And there is seemingly nothing he can do against that...
