As you may recall, Sonic fought three rat bandits not too long ago, very cruel criminals who tried to kill the young Tails. But there was something strange about those bandits. Why were they using grappling hooks instead of typical guns? Sonic just dismissed it as them being idiots. That may be true, but is there more to that?

The black rat who is completely drenched in sewage, and the white rat seem to be wandering in the sewers until stopping by a large hole. The two rats look very scared when they're entering it. They walk into the pitch darkness, which is then suddenly lit up by lamps. Now a punching bag, a table with a telephone and a "throne" is visible. That "throne" being a plastic chair with a carpet. On that sits someone who seems to be the leader of the Sewer Bandits.

The leader of the Sewer Bandits is a very tall and bulky rat whose fur colour is dark green and his eye colour blood red. He wears brown gauntlets which look very worn out. He holds a yellow stress ball in his left hand. He wears red trousers with a black belt which has a grappling hook attached to it. He also wears black boots. He wears nothing on his body, but he does have a scar on it which seems to resemble that of a sword slash. A most unusual scar in modern times like these.

"I have been waiting." the leader informs.

"Oh, e-ey boss! We…uhh, we cum back fom our mishn!" the white rat informs.

"Came back from your mission, you say? Then why do I see that someone is strangely missing?!" the boss asks aggressively.

"Uhh, oh yee mean our fwend? We hadda leave'm back due to-"

"I mean the target! Where is that two tailed bastard?! You were supposed to kill him and bring his body here!" the boss interrupts.

"Oh, about that, we were unlucky! We found da one dood in da water and bc we gang had low numbahs, we tried to recwut'im by acting like we don't want'im! You know, the reverse pizzalogy thing or whatever it was called! But then he turned on us!"

"Shit! There was only shit happening ever since we came to this cursed city! I thought we would have it easy because the G.U.N would have low morale due to their boss having died recently, but then that flying metal garbage came to this city and kicked our ass!! It takes so much effort to even just flee from that shit, and then that two-tailed bastard would attack us whenever we were exhausted from fleeing!! Curse those two!!" the boss rants while he uses his stress ball.

"S-sorry for messing up…"

"Grr…I'll contact my spy to ask about the G.U.N. 's movement! I want to escape from this giant shithole of a situation we've gotten into!" the gang leader announces.

"Yo ave ah spy?"

"Yes! I once encountered a G.U.N soldier who was scared of me that he begged me not to kill him because he has a pregnant wife, so I told him I would let him and his family live if he obeys me! And now I need him to tell me about the next G.U.N movements!"

The leader then pulls out a phone and calls his spy.

"Hello, I am a good friend of Snare! Can I please talk with him?" the leader asks in a fake nice tone. However, he then looks shocked upon the response he got on the phone. His spy as you may know was fired from the G.U.N. The gang leader keeps pressing his stress ball, but it gets destroyed. The leader then suddenly jumps from his throne and starts screaming out of rage. He squashes the phone with only a single hand and then tears his throne apart. He then runs to the already limited supplies his gang has left to destroy them too as the gang watches in horror. He then proceeds to turn to a wall and punches it continuously until he makes a hole.

This is Hunter, the menacing and volatile leader of the Sewer Bandits. He grew up with untreated anger issues, which caused everyone in his social circle to despise him. He also had trouble finding work to do as he was always fired from his jobs quickly. This caused him to turn to the life of crime. Since his violent outbreaks usually led him destroying his own guns, he switched to a grappling hook. His odd weapon of choice and his success in crime despite it had earned him respect among criminals which led to the creation of the Sewer Bandits.

At the same time, Sonic invades the G.U.N headquarters at high speed and runs past the G.U.N soldiers who think it was just the wind. Thanks to his speed, he can avoid every soldier and search through every corner and every shelf. After only a few minutes, he already searched through all the rooms he was aware of. However, he doesn't seem to find the Chaos Emerald. According to Knuckles, the Chaos Emeralds shine very brightly, so it shouldn't be easy to hide. Yet he doesn't find it despite his speed. He tips on his phone to call his friends.

"Uhh, guys? I can't find the Chaos Emerald. I looked through everything! I even opened the safes with my Spin Dash! I even looked if there are any secret rooms!" Sonic informs while running.

"What?! You said you're going to ace the test, not ass the test!" Knuckles insults.

"Maybe the Chaos Emerald is not there?" Tails brings up.

"No way! The Chaos Emerald came to Lost Angels recently! It must be in the G.U.N's hands!" Knuckles denies. "Keep searching, Sonic! You must have overlooked it!"

"Got it, good to go!" Sonic replies while running at high speed again.

Meanwhile, Tails and Knuckles hide in a hole near the headquarters, where they are awaiting Sonic's arrival. Tails is shaking, worried about Sonic's safety, while Knuckles is confident that he will make it back safely.

"I think he should run away!" Tails requests to Knuckles.

"No, he shouldn't. He is the fastest thing alive, he will be fine." Knuckles denies.

"But it's…"

"Stop worrying! Why do you keep trying to change our plans? You want Chaos Aura for your goal!" Knuckles interrupts.

"Yes, but I don't want to put people I care about in huge danger for it…" Tails answers, tilting his head lower.

"People you care about…that reminds me, what is that robot lieutenant Omega to you?" Knuckles asks out of the blue. "Last time when we talked through phone after I invaded Shining Tower, you seemed to know him."

"Yes, I know him. It was six years ago. When my parents were…nngh…"

"Oh, you don't have to tell me if it brings too painful memories." Knuckles interrupts.

"...i-is it really ok if I don't tell you? I am hiding information about the enemy from you. You are not testing me, are you?" Tails asks nervously.

"Of course it's alright if you don't tell me. I also had it rough growing up. I had neither family nor friends when growing up in the church." Knuckles replies.

"Oh, that's…."

"But I don't talk about it in more detail. Why? Because it hurts! The bishop used to tell me that I'm lonely because I don't open up to others. How ridiculous! Talking about the past hurts more than any fight!" Knuckles rants in frustration. Tails looks surprised by how much Knuckles understands. It is relieving, actually. But this moment is interrupted by Sonic calling again.

"...guys? I just searched through the whole building again…still didn't find anything!" Sonic informs. He sounds stressed.

"Grr…I was so sure it was in the HQ! Come to us, Sonic!" Knuckles orders, now convinced that it really isn't in the G.U.N headquarters.

"But I didn't pass the test!"

"I will give you a new one another time. Now stop talking and come here!"

"Ugh, I can't believe I failed like that! I am the fastest thing alive, yet I couldn't find it…damn! I wish the Emerald would just come to me!" Sonic complains, sounding really stressed out and disappointed.

So much so that due to not paying attention he bumps into Omega who was blocking the way upon noticing the intruder and falls to the ground. Omega then grabs Sonic with his right arm on the leg and pulls him up so he can't escape.

"PLAYING A HERO IN THE PUBLIC WHILE BEING A CRIMINAL IN THE SHADOWS?

HOW DESPICABLE." Omega lectures.

"Oh, hello, good sir! I was just passing by!" Sonic jokes around despite the terrible situation he got into.

"Stop joking around, Sonic! This robot lieutenant is very powerful! Take him seriously!" Knuckles warns through the phone.

"I RECOGNISE THAT VOICE.

AND THAT PHONE ON YOUR WRIST LOOKS IDENTICAL TO THE ONE FOUND NEAR THE ROCKY ARENA, TOO.

WHY ARE YOU WORKING TOGETHER?

YOU WERE FIGHTING AGAINST HIM IN THAT ROCKY ARENA LAST NIGHT.

WAS IT A SPARRING MATCH BETWEEN FRIENDS, OR A BATTLE OF HONOUR AND RESPECT TO RECRUIT YOU?" Omega questions the intruder.

"Oh, about that…I would have to bring him to you so that you can hear the full story! So how about you let me run off? I will totally return with him, no kidding!" Sonic replies jokingly once again. It's hard to tell whether Sonic is not taking the situation seriously or if he is joking to calm his nerves.

"YOU WILL NOT RUN OFF ANYWHERE.

ANSWER MY QUESTIONS.

WHAT DO YOU AND YOUR ALLIES WANT THE EMERALDS FOR?"

"Hey, how about you put me down? I can't answer you if I am hold upside down like that! You make me dizzy!" Sonic replies, looking angry and folding his arms. Somehow this surprises Omega.

"Uhh, why are your eyes glowing?" Sonic asks.

"WHEN YOU LOOK ANGRY AND FOLD YOUR ARMS, YOU SEEM TO RESEMBLE…

ARE YOU AN ARTIFICIAL LIFEFORM?" Omega asks out of the blue.

"Huh?! Oughtie fishel? Arty shishil? Archie official? I don't know what that means!" Sonic asks while being genuinely confused.

"STOP FOOLING AROUND, MORTAL.

OBEY MY ORDERS.

DISOBEYING ME IS AGAINST THE LAW FOR YOU.

NOW, ANSWER…"

Suddenly, a very loud and deep sound can be heard outside. Omega's head turns to the direction the sound came from, looking away from Sonic. He uses the opportunity to use his spin dash to escape from Omega's grip. Then he rolls down the stairs. Omega shakes his fist and puts his metallic finger on his head to contact the other soldiers.

"I WILL CHASE THE INTRUDER!

YOU WILL GO INVESTIGATE THE LOUD NOISE!" Omega orders.

At the same time outside, Tails seems to be angry at Knuckles for whatever reason.

"What the hell were you thinking?! What if the civilians see that?!" Tails shouts while pointing at a giant boulder near the headquarters.

"Sonic was captured by Omega, so I had to distract him somehow." Knuckles states while being completely calm with arms folded.

"You could have done something different than this!"

"What else could I have done? It's hard to think things through in the moment of desperation."

"Desperation?! You don't look anything desperate, not even sweating!" Tails replies. Then Sonic arrives with high speed, breathing in exhaustion.

"Oh, you're safe!" Tails says in relief.

"Sonic, can you use your speed to move us quickly to another place?" Knuckles asks his new ally.

"Do my weenie arms look like they can carry you guys around? I could grab your arm and drag you with me, but that's really unsafe, you know?" Sonic answers.

"Alright, then we have to tunnel." Knuckles concludes before using his Chaos Aura to create a tunnel, not knowing that Omega is watching from afar in the sky.

"Hey! Slow down, please! I can't keep up with you!" Tails shouts, trying to keep up with Sonic and Knuckles.

"What do you mean 'slow down'?! Omega just saw Sonic running out of the building! Sure, we prepared a plan for fighting him, but it's better to avoid fighting him!" Knuckles shouts back while using his Chaos Aura to move away the earth in front of him.

"Yeah Tails, even Knuckles doesn't want to fight that thing! Now run faster, you're too slow!" Sonic says, seemingly having fun.

"I can't! I'm not used to this rocky and muddy ground!" Tails complains.

"Then get used to this! There is nothing to carry us around!" Sonic replies.

Suddenly, Omega's arms come in from on top of the tunnel and grabs Sonic's and Knuckles's shoulders. He then pulls them out of the ground as Tails watches in horror.

"Well, I guess there is something to carry us around after…" Sonic jokes with a nervous chuckle. But Omega pays him no attention. He is focused on Tails right now, watching him through the ground thanks to the x-ray vision.

"COME OUT.

I KNOW YOU ARE HERE, I CAN SEE THROUGH THE GROUND AND YOU KNOW THAT." Omega orders. Tails then comes out with a weapon in his shaky hands that seems to be an electro blaster, because a regular gun with bullets would be ineffective against the robot lieutenant.

"H-hello, Omega…why are you in Lost Angels?" Tails asks nervously.

"AS YOU MAY KNOW, THE LOCAL LIEUTENANT DIED RECENTLY TO A HEART VIRUS.

THIS AFFECTED THE ALREADY INCOMPETENT SOLDIERS HEAVILY, MAKING THEM EVEN MORE INCOMPETENT.

SOME CRIMINAL GANG USED THAT OPPORTUNITY TO COME HERE AND HAVE THEIR FUN, SO I WAS SENT HERE TO CRUSH THEM.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME.

WHY DID YOU CAUSE A POWER OUTAGE?" Omega asks with a disappointed tone in his voice.

"...what? I didn't cause it…" Tails tries to lie.

"YES, YOU DID.

I HAVE EVIDENCE." Omega denies Tails's claim while showing the evidence on the TV screen on his chest area.

"I WILL ASK AGAIN:

WHY DID YOU CAUSE A POWER OUTAGE?

YOU PUT INNOCENTS IN DANGER!" Omega gets louder.

"Knuckles told me there might be Chaos Emerald in Shining Tower, and that he will let me obtain some magic named Chaos Aura…"

"Woah, there! You know you are talking to the enemy, right?" Sonic asks, worried for his own safety. Knuckles is worried, too.

"SO YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO JOIN VIGILANTES TO OBTAIN POWERS…

WOULD YOU HAVE LEFT AFTERWARDS?"

"N-no…going with Knuckles will help my goal." Tails answers.

"I SEE, SO THIS VIGILANTE TEAM'S GOAL IS BENEFICIAL TO YOUR GOAL OF VENGEANCE…HOW FOOLISH OF YOU." Omega insults Tails.

"...what?" Tails asks in confusion.

"YOU THINK CHAOS AURA WILL MAKE YOU STRONG ENOUGH TO AVENGE YOUR PARENTS?

TAILS, YOU ARE ONLY FOURTEEN YEARS OLD.

YOU LACK EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING.

YOUR BODY IS NOT IN ITS PRIME AGE YET.

JOINING THIS VIGILANTE TEAM IS A MISTAKE." Omega explains his thoughts.

"So what else should he do? Just not wanting to avenge his parents?!" Knuckles asks in an angry tone.

"HE CAN KEEP TRAINING AND IMPROVING UNTIL HE IS EIGHTEEN.

THEN HE CAN JOIN THE G.U.N ACADEMY, WHERE HE WILL BE PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED FOR THREE YEARS.

THEN HE CAN HAVE HIS REVENGE ON THE CRIMINAL WHILE HAVING MANY SOLDIERS ON HIS SIDE."

"Oh, come on! You are asking him to wait seven years for his revenge!" Sonic replies to Omega's argument.

"But…he is right. That is the more correct path…" Tails states.

"What?!" Sonic and Knuckles shout in shock.

"I am the only one of my family left…if I die, my bloodline dies with me…" Tails answers quietly.

"CORRECT.

YOU ARE THINKING RATIONALLY NOW." Omega says in a nicer tone, which was a bit hard to understand considering that it is a robot.

"Look, Tails, I know how you are feeling. My bloodline would die with me, too! But I still started this journey, you know why? Because there are many other people in this world who suffer like us! That's why we have to find the seven Chaos Emeralds to end the Doctor's tyranny!" Knuckles tries to convince Tails.

"ARE YOU EVEN AWARE HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO FIND THEM?

THE G.U.N EXISTED FOR DECADES, YET WE COULD NEVER FIND ALL SEVEN OF THEM!

YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO FIND THEM JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN SENSE THEIR PRESENCE!

SOME OF THEM MIGHT BE IN A PLACE IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO REACH, OR IN THE POSSESSION OF A FOE IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO DEFEAT!" Omega denies Knuckles's claims.

"Yeah yeah, of course it might be an impossible adventure. But it can also be very successful, you know! If we're lucky, we can crack the Egg in less than a year! That would be way faster than the G.U.N could do it!" Sonic says with a grin.

"I don't disbelieve that the G.U.N might defeat the Doctor's robot army one day. However, wars take a long time, and every day people suffer from robot attacks…if our adventure goes right, we might save millions of people!" Knuckles makes a speech.

"We might save…how many people?" Tails asks in surprise.

"YOU ORDERED TAILS TO CAUSE A POWER OUTAGE, PUTTING THE LIVES OF MANY PEOPLE IN DANGER!

YET I AM SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE THAT YOUR GOAL IS SAVING THE LIVES OF PEOPLE?!

PAH!" Omega reacts angrily.

"If we save people…I will stop getting mistreated!" Tails answers more confident than usual.

"WHAT?!" Omega shouts in shock.

"Great, Knuckles! You convinced him!" Sonic praises Knuckles.

"Omega, I am not surrendering! I will help Knuckles on his journey and become a hero!!" Tails shouts while pointing his blaster at Omega.

"STOP, TAILS!

YOUR TRAUMA IS STARTING TO CONTROL YOU!

THINK THIS MORE THROUGH BEFORE YOU-"

Then Tails shoots with his blaster at Omega's chest. That knocks him away and causes him to release Sonic and Knuckles from his grasp.

"Omega, I am very sorry, but you're in our way!" Tails apologises to Omega.

"YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO!" Omega responds angrily.

"Of course we know! We are three and you are alone, we will destroy you!" Sonic announces.

"No, please don't destroy Omega! He is a hero who saves people! Destroying him entirely will only put civilians in danger! We should only shut him down!" Tails shouts at Sonic.

"TAILS, YOU REALLY THINK YOUR TEAM CAN DEFEAT ME?

HOW PITIFUL…JOINING THAT VIGILANTE TEAM IS SQUANDERING YOUR SMART MIND!" Omega insults.

Knuckles starts the fight by throwing the rock at Omega, which he catches with ease. Sonic simultaneously quickly moves behind Omega to spin jump towards him. Omega however reacts very quickly and throws the same rock he just caught at Sonic, sending him landing to to the ground. Omega then flies towards Knuckles, who summons a rock wall to block him. Omega pulls his large forearms in front of him to try breaking through. While that happens, Knuckles creates a hole in the ground behind him and glances at Tails. He reacts with a nod and enters the hole before Knuckles closes it.

Right after that, Omega breaks through the wall and sends Knuckles flying. Omega wants to fly after him, but he hears Sonic rolling towards him, so he quickly turns around and strikes him to the wall with an arm swing. Omega then flies towards Knuckles to try grab him, but Knuckles quickly covers his right fist with rocks to punch him away. Knuckles then turns the rock gauntlet into multiple small rocks which are shot towards Omega, forcing him to block them. They don't do any damage to him, but he has to block them anyway to protect more vulnerable parts like the eye lights.

While the tiny rocks are shot, Knuckles covers his right hand with rocks again and jumps up to try a punch on Omega's head. Of course he remembered from the Shining Tower fight that Omega is more vulnerable on his head than the rest of his body. So a rocky fist on the head might be able to destroy him. But this is too easy for Omega to predict. The robot activates his twin jet boosters and rushes forward. This deflects the shooting rock and dodges Knuckles's punch. Omega then immediately turns sideways towards Knuckles to tackle him with his huge right forearm on the back of Knuckles's head. This sends Knuckles flying, but the moment this happens, Omega instantly grabs him at the leg with his cold metallic claw. Omega then turns around, carries him over his large body and smacks him with high force to the ground. Then he immediately picks him up so that Knuckles has no time using his Chaos Aura, and repeats the previous action.

Omega wants to throw Knuckles repeatedly, but he gets hit by the side by Sonic's Spin Dash, causing him to release his grip on Knuckles.

"Sonic, I need you to distract Omega for a while." Knuckles orders.

"Distract him? Yeah sure! But don't be angry if I take the win instead!" Sonic replies.

While Knuckles sends more energy into the ground, Sonic runs in circles around Omega to make him guess where he will attack. Omega however, the intelligent AI he is, decides to counter Sonic's strategy by…simply just stretching out his arms and spinning. Sonic is sent flying, but manages to roll upon landing, then Spin Dash towards Omega. This time, he jumps up before Omega swings his arm. However, Omega's beam cannons suddenly are about to shoot Sonic! He gets scared and kicks Omega's upper body with both feet to bounce off of him, dodging the beam. Sonic then lands with a handstand before performing a back flip to land on his feet.

"Woah, there! You shoot at me but not at Knuckles or Tails? Damn, I'm being treated like the middle child of a family right now!" Sonic jokes once again.

"I AM ORDERED TO CAPTURE THE ECHIDNA ALIVE.

AND I DO NOT TRY TO KILL TAILS FOR PERSONAL REASONS.

I HAVE RECEIVED NO ORDERS FOR YOU, SO I CAN KILL YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE ATTACKING G.U.N AUTHORITY." Omega explains to his enemy.

"Damn. I better increase my reputation so I get spared as well! What should I do to achieve that? Be the witness of some difficult case?" Sonic jokes as usual despite facing such a powerful opponent.

"SILENCE!

THAT IS NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT!" Omega shouts and stomps on the ground.

"Sonic, I've finished what I had to. I can help out now." Knuckles informs before coming.

During this fight, the Sewer Bandits, which are around 10 people, leave the sewers. They heard the gunshots from Omega's fight, that's why Hunter decided to use this opportunity to leave the city. He wants to sneak away while the G.U.N is focusing on another opponent. The Sewer Bandits wander to a bus station where they spot an empty bus.

"Let's take the bus! I got a driver's licence before I started my life as a criminal!" Hunter states.

The gang enters the bus and are about to drive off. But then suddenly, a gunshot can be heard. A wheel of the bus is destroyed, making it unable to move. The gangsters look outside of the bus and see G.U.N soldiers pointing their guns at them. Two G.U.N cars are also arriving at the scene.

Hunter is shocked upon seeing the soldiers's faces. Usually they look frightened, afraid of dying. But not this time. They look confident, knowing what they signed up for. They know who they're up against. They know that Omega is busy with another fight and will not be able to come assisting. They know that they might die here. It seems that Omega's speech from last time was effective.

"Surrender! Put your weapons down and leave the bus with your hands up!" one of the G.U.N soldiers orders.

"You are the ones who should surrender! Or die!" Hunter shouts back.

Back to the ongoing fight between the team and Omega. The robot's sturdy body, superior combat experience and quick reaction speed seem to be too much for Sonic and Knuckles. They can't land a single damaging blow on him while they themselves are hurt, even bleeding a bit.

"Knuckles, everything is finished." Tails suddenly informs Knuckles through the phone.

"Alright, come over here to the fight, we need you." Knuckles orders.

"Already nearby." Tails replies.

Knuckles uses his CA to equip his arms with rocky gauntlets. Sonic at the same time rushes behind Omega, trying to attack him from both sides. Omega decides to turn so that both Sonic and Knuckles are next to him, and stretches both of his arms to punch both of them. But unknown to the lieutenant, Knuckles created a hole near Omega before attacking. Out of that hole, Tails comes out jumping and putting a sticky bomb at Omega's back during the punch. Omega is surprised, but immediately turns around and swings his right forearm arm, hitting Tails hard to the ground. Fortunately, Tails managed to put a sticky bomb at Omega's forearm during the attack. Omega tries to remove the bombs, but then Tails seems to start shouting:

"Don't touch these bombs! These not only explode through a trigger, they also explode through any physical contact!" Tails warns.

"I SEE…BRILLIANT AS ALWAYS, TAILS." Omega comments with respect.

"With that being said…deactivate yourself now! If you don't deactivate y-yourself in 20 seconds, I will pull the trigger!" Tails threatens while sweating a lot.

"YOU ARE GOING TO BLOW ME UP, EVEN THOUGH TEAM DARK SAVED YOU YEARS AGO?" Omega questions.

"I don't want to do this…but y-you are in my way! Besides, you won't die if I blow you up, you are a robot! You can be repaired!" Tails explains.

"If you really care about the protection of the civilians, then do what Tails said!" Knuckles shouts.

"OH, YOU THINK FORFEITING IS MY ONLY CHOICE HERE?" Omega laughs menacingly.

Omega then activates his Temporal Field, destroying the bombs before they can explode. Tails is shocked, and throws his bombs at Omega. They explode in front of the lieutenant, but he remains unscathed. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles look very shocked.

"What?! The Temporal Field is immune to even the sticky bombs?!" Knuckles shouts in shock.

"TEMPORAL FIELD BEATS EVERYTHING!

IT CANNOT BE PENETRATED!" Omega boasts in pride while clenching his fists.

"What is this…a new invention? How is this made…?" Tails is flabbergasted.

"I WOULD TELL YOU IF YOU WOULD SURRENDER AND LEAVE THAT TEAM!" Omega informs while pointing his finger at Tails, who only takes a few steps back in response.

"You have that Tempo Fart thing but not the soldiers who are much weaker than you? Kinda unfair, don't you think?" Sonic asks.

"THE MATERIAL NEEDED FOR TEMPORAL FIELD IS VERY RARE AND LIMITED.

AND EVEN THEN, THE MORTAL BODY IS TOO WEAK TO USE IT.

THEY WOULD PERISH.

EVEN MOST ROBOTS ARE TOO WEAK TO USE IT.
