This is just a short, one-shot story i came up with after reading How I Learned To Fly. It shows Jack's life over the years after the ending of the story, with him and Mia eventually marrying and setting down, and also reveals the eventual fate of Wilson Schlamme. Besides serving as an epilogue to HILTF, it also serves as a warning to the pressure and temptations of fame, and how sometimes avoiding celebrity is the better choice.

Goosebumps belongs to RL Stine, as do all the characters in this story.

Jack Johnson was glad to have escaped the horror of the attention his power of flight had brought. He was glad to be a normal kid again. After throwing the contest, pretending to have lost the power to fly, his life was normal again. He had his old friends back, his family, and, best of all, he was dating Mia Montez, the girl of his dreams.

One night, Jack told her the truth: that he could still fly, that he had only pretended to have lost the power. That night, he took her in his arms and flew her into the night sky. There, so close to the night stars, overlooking their town, they shared their first kiss.

As luck would have it, Jack and Mia ended up in the same high school, and continued their relationship all the way to senior year. The night of graduation, they made love for the first time. As they both headed to college together, Jack proposed, and she accepted.

After college, Jack and Mia, now married, settled down in a small home in Malibu. Jack got his dream job as a comic book artist, drawing panels and sometimes cover art for comics, sometimes even using his own heroes.

On warm summer nights, Jack still took her on flights above town. The day Mia announced she was pregnant, for safety, Jack had to stop taking her.

One morning, Jack read something in the paper that made his heart stop: Wilson Schlamme, aka Wonder Wilson, his old rival from middle school, had died. According to the paper, the pressure of fame, so many interviews and job offers, of doing so many shows and government tests, and everything else, had driven Wilson into drugs and alcohol, and he had been found dead in a hotel room of a suspected overdose of sleeping pills and alcohol.

Jack hadn't seen Wilson since before high school. He'd occasionally come back to town to visit his family, but was usually too tired from constantly flying and working to hang out with any of his old friends.

Jack had never truly hated Wilson, despite him almost constantly trying to one-up and embarrass him. After all, if it hadn't been for Wilson, Jack might not have found the book that taught him to fly. However, Wilson had stolen the book from Jack and learned to fly himself, in an attempt to once again outdo Jack. In a way, Jack felt guilty. If he hadn't taken the book, and Wilson hadn't stolen it, he might not be dead...

As if reading his mind, Mia put a hand on his shoulder. "It's not your fault, Jack. None of it."

Jack sighed. "I know, but i still feel bad. Wilson and I, we were just normal kids until I found that goddamn book. If i hadn't run from your party, if i hadn't gone to that abandoned house..." He shook his head sadly.

Mia rubbed his shoulders, trying to relax him. "I know how you feel, but you can't blame yourself. You know what? I said it that day, the day I asked you to teach ME to fly, and I'll say it again: I'm glad the book is gone, and that i didn't learn. It's dangerous, Jack. Not just the power, but what it does to people. I mean, your own FATHER tried to use you, his own son,to make money. He basically EXPLOITED you. And the government wanted to use you as a guinea pig. You made the best choice anyone could have, by throwing that contest, by pretending to have lost it. If only Wilson had done that, if only the military and the paparazzi and fans and everybody else had left him alone, he might be where we are. It's not. Your. Fault. "

Jack nodded, and stood up and threw his arms around his wife. " You're right, Mia. I was so glad to get all those people off my back. All that money, all those experiments and cameras, and endorsements. I wouldn't trade THIS, right here, you, me, and the miracle inside here", he said, putting a hand on her pregnant stomach", for all that, or ANYTHING. "

Mia smiled, and they kissed. Jack added: " And another thing: I've decided to give up flying completely. When our child is born, i don't want them to know anything about it, and asking questions, wanting to do it themselves. I want them to have as normal a life as possible. I know you liked it when I took you flying, but i can't anymore, not even when the baby is born. I just can't anymore, Mia."

She nodded. "That's a good idea, Jack. In fact it's for the best. A normal life. Like any child should have. The life you SHOULD have had, before you found that book. The life Wilson MIGHT have had. I just hope nobody ever finds that book again, and, if there's more like it, i hope they're gone too. Nobody should ever have to live like that. You. Me. And our kid or kids. That's the only life i need."

And so Jack and Mia lived a perfect life, like any normal young couple. Mia gave birth to a son, and later a daughter. Luckily, both were born normal, and showed no sign of being able to fly, like Jack initially feared. Jack constantly thought how lucky he was: A great job, doing what he loved. A beautiful, loving wife. And two great kids. From that day, he never flew again. He didn't need to: every day, his wife and kids made him always feel like he was flying high above the world, seeing the heavens. He wouldn't trade it for anything.

The End

I really hope yall liked it. I came up with this after reading the book, and felt like it could use an epilogue. In a way, How I Learned To Fly is the only Goosebumps book with a truly happy, or at least optimistic, ending, and i just felt like Jack should be happier still, so i wrote this, to show he did indeed get everything he wanted, and more. I really hope you guys like it. Be sure to like and/or comment!!
