Hello, my lovely readers! We are back with a new chapter!
This one took a bit longer, but it's all done! Hope you enjoy it!
Now, let's continue our story...
Season 1, episode 10; Veggie Tales
It was another peaceful morning in Inkwell, and Audrey was finishing getting ready for her job at the Honeycomb Herald. She brushed her hair and added the final touches of lipstick. She smoothed out her new dress she purchased from the mall when she went with Sally and slipped her wedding ring on.
The dress was a teal blue dress that went down to her knees, sleeves that went to her elbows, and a folded black collar. The sleeves had a black outline, five blue buttons spiraled up to her collar, and a black belt was fastened around the waist.
She additionally wore an oval locket that was connected to a silver chain around her neck and a stretchy bracelet that had pearls around them. She knew they were not real, but still admired it.
As she slipped on her black heels and grabbed her shoulder bag, suddenly, she heard a knock at the door.
"Come in." She called.
The door opened and Josh stepped inside. He was wearing navy blue pants with a matching coat, vest and fedora, black dress shoes and a white undershirt.
"Wow, don't you look handsome." Audrey smiled. "Big day today?"
"Yeah, we got a new client coming in and I wanted to look good for meeting them." Josh answered. "If we get this, we can get new parts for the shop and renovate the place a bit. It could use a new roof."
"That's good to hear." Audrey smiled. "I have a new article to look over, but it shouldn't take me too long."
"Wouldn't put anything past that." Josh smiled, giving Audie a kiss. "Anway, we can walk to work together, since we're heading that way."
"Sounds good." Audrey smiled. The two of them headed down the stairs, said goodbye to the boys, and headed out the door. Once outside, they saw Elder Kettle attending to his garden, humming peacefully while he was working.
"Morning, Elder Kettle." They both piped up.
"Oh, morning, you two." Kettle smiled. "Off to work, I see."
"Yep, got a big day ahead of us." Josh replied. "Any big plans for today?"
"Oh, I am going to spend time with my babies." He beamed. "I just enjoy taking care of them."
Audrey arched an eyebrow when she asked "Your babies?" Surely he wasn't referring to Cuphead and Mugman. They were small children, sure, but they weren't babies. They were both ten.
"Oh, yes, my garden." He replied. "I make sure I take good care of them, like any good gardener should."
"That makes sense." Josh nodded. "Well, as much as we would love to stay and chat, we have to go to work, but we should be home around dinner time."
"Oh good! I was thinking of making chicken tortilla soup." Kettle smiled.
"Oh, that sounds really good!" Audrey beamed. "Well, have a good day!"
"Thank you!" Kettle nodded.
After the couple left, Kettle sighed and resumed his gardening. It was a perfect day and the air was fresh and cool.
You know, on a perfect day like this, one would break out into song, and that is what Elder Kettle did.
***New song: "My Little Veggies"***
Elder Kettle: I love my little veggies, they're my babies I would say! I sprinkle them with love and care, each and every day.
*He then took a pinch of fertilizer and sprinkled it over the plants, seeing it fall gently and carefully onto the veggies.
Elder Kettle; I shine their little, veggie skin, and chase away the bugs!
*He cleaned the tomato that was close to him with a rag, as he saw his reflection. Just then, he spotted a ladybug on another and flicked it away.
Elder Kettle: I give them water, and manure, and lots and lots of hugs!
*He carefully used a drop dispenser and dropped small drops of water on the plants, before sprinkling manure along the stems and the ground. He was so happy that he gave his plants a big hug.
Elder Kettle: Though you are just babies now, merely bug and twig.
*He then got to their level and stroked them gently. (ok gonna say this, but he's taking his role as a plant provider waaaay to far)
Elder Kettle: If I give you all you need, you'll grow to be so big!
*He then stood up and he stretched his arms out to finish the big number. However, just as the song came to a close, suddenly, there was a large cracking sound, which came from his back.
Elder Kettle: Ow, my back!
*After a second, he collapses, knocked out cold.
***End of Song***
A bit later, Elder Kettle found himself in his room, moaning on his bed.. His room was a large room, consisting of yellow and white striped walls which looked a bit faded, and a dark brown and green flooring.
There was a dresser on the left side of the door, a picture hung on the wall, a circular window with purple curtains pulled back, a bed with with a brown bed frame, and a quilt cover in the center of the room, along with a nightstand to the left of him, with an oil lamp and a photo of the boys.
Speaking of which, the boys were also in there, keeping an eye on him, as they watched their guardian moan in pain.
"Ow! My back! Oh, my babies! I fed them. I nursed them. I kept them alive." Kettle moaned. "Without me, they're doomed."
"Don't worry, Elder Kettle. We'll take care of your babies." Cuphead calmly informed him. "Here. Let me fluff your pillow."
As he did that, Mugman asked "Can I get you some soup?"
Now, normally, Kettle would be pleased with the boys offering to help, especially when he wasn't feeling well. However, something in the back of his mind told him otherwise.
"You two are being awfully helpful. You're up to something."He informed them, glaring at them. I've got my eye on-
Before he could finish, he instantly fell asleep, snoring and little puffs coming out of his hole like a train.
Ok, that is me after a very long day at work.
As he blissfully slept, the boys looked at each other and grinned.
"Out like a light." Cuphead whispered to his brother. "Let's scram and catch that picture show."
Without hesitation, both boys ran out of the cottage, giggling with delight. Oh yes, the old make sure our caretaker is out so we can skip chores.
Classic.
Before they could head past the open gate, Mugman realized something and held back onto Cuphead's handle, making him fall on his back.
"Dude, what the heck?!" Cuphead asked. "We gotta make tracks if we're gonna make the five o'clock!"
"Kettle's garden. We promised we'd take care of his babies." Mugman sorrowfully mentioned. "Feed 'em. Nurture them. Kinda like how he took care of us when we were babies."
Normally, Cuphead would just ditch his brother and go to the movies, but hearing about how Elder Kettle looked after them, he stopped, gave himself a facepalm and groaned
"Why'd you have to go and say it like that?" He asked, as he flopped himself over the fence door.
Mugman then grabbed his brother's handle and the two walked to the garden,
Ah, another classic; guilt tripping your brother into staying.
A few hours later, the boys were sitting near the garden, watching it with bored expressions. It was clear that the plants were perfectly fine and healthy.
Clearly it was pointless to stay and with kids like them, it was not what they planned to do that day.
"Blurgh." Cuphead groaned. "It's not fair. Nothing interesting ever happens around here."
While that wasn't necessarily true, after the Phantom Express adventure, nothing really big has happened. They haven't heard King Dice's show for a while and the Devil hardly made an appearance.
However, unknown to them, three silhouettes sneaked over into their yard, quickly moving away from their direction.
Mugman took a sigh. "You can say that again. Miss Audrey won't be back for a while, especially Josh. Guess it's another boring day for us."
Just then, the two hear a small crash from the shed. Startled, they got up and carefully walked towards it, Cuphead armed with a shovel and Mugman armed with a pitchfork.
And let me clarify, it's not the pitchfork, the one the Devil uses.
Well, maybe not yet, but we're getting a head of ourselves.
They both got on opposite sides of the shed, and Cuphead gave his brother some small hand signals. He nodded, and prepared to attack.
Cuphead then opened the shed to reveal none other than the Root Pack, feasting on their dirt supplies.
For those who don't know, the Root Pack consisted of three veggies named Sal Spudder the potato, Chauncey Chantenay the carrot, and Ollie Bulb the onion.
"Hey!" Cuphead shouted, startling the three. They looked behind them, in shock, their mouths stuffed with dirt.
"All right, get out here!" Cuphead ordered, pointing them to leave. The three of them did as they were told, and faced the boys with guilty and startled looks.
As Cuphead placed his shovel in the ground, he sternly asked. "Okay, what gives?"
"We're real sorry, mister. We don't mean to bother youse." Sal glumly replied, taking off his black hat. "We's just some, uh, down-on-our-luck vegetables. I'm Sal. This is Ollie. And that's Chauncey."
"Yeah. We don't got nowheres to call home." Chauncey chuckled nervously.
We're, uh, orphans." Sal chimed in. "Yeah, that's it. Orphans."
Ollie, not getting the idea, gasped.
"Wait! We're orphans?!" Chauncey facepalms himself as Ollie begins to tear up. "That's so sad!"
He was on the verge of tears when Sal stopped him by shouting
"Hey! Ease up on the waterworks, will you? The last thing we need is you peeling all over the place. Then we'll all start crying!"
"I'm sorry, Sal! It's just... You know, it's such a sad story!" Ollie whimpered.
The boys looked at them oddly, as Sal quickly admitted.
"Eh, don't mind him. He gets, uh, emotional. Listen, all we're asking for is a little bit of soil to rest our weary roots. Just for one night. What do you say, eh?"
"We'd love to help, but we gotta keep an eye on Elder Kettle's boring, old vegetable garden." Cuphead replied, gesturing to the garden that was near them, before giving an annoyed groan.
"Elder Kettle takes his garden very seriously." Mugman mentioned. "They're his babies."
"If anything happened to 'em…" Cuphead added.
"He'd be heartbroken." Mugman concluded.
Just then, a thought came to Sal. A really sneaky idea.
Chuckling, he replied while nudging Ollie "Well, heck. No one takes better care of veggies than veggies."
"Yeah. We can help you." Chauncey added.
"You could?" Mugman hopefully asked.
"You would?" Cuphead added.
"Sure." Sal replied, as he led the boys out of the garden and near the fence. "Just let us handle that garden while the two of youse go have a fun night on the town."
"Well, if you insist." Cuphead replied.
"Gee, thanks." Mugman smiled.
Seeing their chance to freedom, the two walked off to see the movie. As the veggie pals waved them good-bye, Cuphead placed his arm around his brother and beamed "Swell, This is gonna be a great night."
Once the two were out of ear and eye shot, Sal chuckled and huggled with his fellow friends.
"Swell. This is gonna be a great night."
Meanwhile, unaware of what had happened, Audrey was in her office, working on the latest article.
Her office was a small room with yellow comb wall paint, along with dark brown flooring. It additionally had a writing desk that had multiple shelves near two long windows overlooking the city, hearing the sounds of cars, and people passing by.
The writing desk had a typewriter, some loose papers, an inkwell and pen, and a pencil cup with writing supplies. There was a filing shelf to the far right of the room, a small bookshelf with novels, and other knick knacks decorated. There was also a telephone on the top of the bookshelf as well as a photo of her and Josh, and a radio, playing some jazz music.
While she missed her office in New York City, she thought her new office was really cute, especially since she had only seen pictures of offices in the 1930s in her history books. Now she got to see it in full.
She clicked and typed on her typewriter, trying to not to work fast like she used to do back home. The article she was writing was a rather interesting topic; greenhouses.
She remembered working on a similar one, and recalled the gentleman explaining his plan to use chemicals in a safe way to help nurture his pants and keep bugs off that could harm them.
She typed and worked on the article, stretching her fingers a few times, when suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in." She called.
Just then, a worker honeybee came in holding a huge basket of roses, as well as some small gifts.
"Hello, Mrs. Anderson." He called. "I have a special delivery for you."
"Oh, really?" she asked, surprised. "Oh, is it from Josh? He sometimes sends me sweet gifts."
"Oh, uh sorry. It's not from your husband." He replied.
Audrey stopped and arched an eyebrow. "Oh? Then, who's it from?"
"I'm not sure." he shrugged. "Someone just dropped this off and wanted me to give it to you. Must have a secret admirer on your hands."
"Yeah, but I have a husband." She reminded him. "I don't think it would be funny or even cute that someone would want me to cheat on him."
"Wow, committed." He smiled, setting the plant and gifts on the table. "Gotta say, don't really see that in some relationships these days. Anyway, I'm heading back to work. See you later."
"Bye. See ya." Audrey smiled.
The bee then flew out and left Audrey alone in her office. She then looked at the roses and sighed. While they were beautiful, she didn't like the idea of someone hitting on her.
Bad enough someone else is hitting on her.
She opened the small box and found a beautiful gold necklace with a ruby red teardrop charm that was surrounded by an outline of real diamonds.
She shut the top back on and found the note next to the flowers. She opened it up with a letter opener and found a folded note inside. It read
"I think of you everyday and when you're not here in my arms, I'm filled with tears. I hope one day when you're mine, the only tears I'll shed are tears of joy.
-Mr. S."
"Wow, poetic. But not for me." She groaned.
She tore up the letter into shreds and used her sketchbook to do two things; one, another note, and two, a portal sending it to another place.
That ended up in the home of Dorris and Herman. It teleported in Dorris's room, and as she entered, she found it on her bed. She opened it and squealed with delight. When Sherman entered the room, she threw her arms around him and smooched him.
While he was really confused about this, he decided to go along with it.
After all, she wasn't shouting at him for something really stupid.
Finally, the day had come to an end and Audrey packed up to head home. She gathered her bag, bidded good night to her co-workers and met up with Josh down stairs.
The two walked down the sidewalk, chatted and laughed with one another, until they heard two familiar voices laughing and giggling in front of them.
"Wow! That was awesome! Loved the ending!"
"Yeah, and especially since the bad guy was stopped before his plan could follow through."
"Cuphead? Mugman?" Josh asked.
They both looked and sure enough, it was the two cup brothers. Audrey knew they often go to the city for exploration or to buy a new comic, but she saw that Cuphead was sipping on a drink and Mugman was holding a bag of popcorn.
"Hey, guys!" Audrey smiled. "You two see a movie?"
"Yeah! It was action packed!" Cuphead answered. "So much happened and the whole story was awesome from start to finish!"
"Glad you boys had a good time." Josh chimed in. "Did Elder Kettle need you to do some chores earlier today?"
"Erm, well, while attending to his garden, he pulled his back and we had to get him into his bed." Mugman replied. "He needed someone to take care of his garden, but we got three people to look after it."
"That's good. He said something about them being like his babies or something?" Audrey asked.
"Oh, yeah. He treats them like their his actual babies." Cuphead explained. "He did the same for us when we were infants."
"Oh, so Elder Kettle isn't your grandfather or anything?" Josh asked.
"Yeah. We, don't know our birth parents or any family." Mugman glumly replied.
Both looked down rather sad and that made Audrey feel heartbroken. While she never had that experience, she had a feeling of sadness and pain stirring in her stomach. It was hard to see that, especially to two small kids.
Josh knelt down and placed his hands on their shoulders, reminding them "Hey, while it's hard to go through that, you're lucky to have someone like Elder Kettle. He loves you guys so much, just like how Audrey and I love you both."
They gave him a smile. They knew that was true, despite the many crazy situations they end up in.
They started walking again, as the boys giggled and laughed about the movie, as the young couple held hands and strolled behind them.
Audrey had to smile. Even though she and Josh were not their parents, they do try to give them that mother and father figure.
Though something came to Audrey's mind. She thought more about how the boys didn't know their folks and they were never in their life…and began to feel that same feeling as they did.
She never told Josh or anyone this but for a while, especially since she was little, she wondered if someone special was missing in her life. She had her sister, parents, and friends.
"But I still feel like someone is not in my life." she thought. "Why am I feeling this again? I'm not adopted or anything. My parents would have told me when I was 18 or something. Maybe it's just me."
Pushing that thought aside, the group made their way down the dirt road.
A bit later, it was starting to get dark out, but light enough to follow the path. The boys were still giggling and laughing from the movie while Audrey and Josh walked behind them.
"That was dynamite!" Cuphead exclaimed.
"Especially the explosions." Mugman smiled. Just then, they heard faint music coming from an area. "Wow. Sounds like someone's throwing a heck of a shindig."
"Oh, a party. We should crash it!" Cuphead squealed.
"No, you're not going to do that." Audrey sternly replied.
"What?! Why?" Cuphead asked.
"Because it's getting late and you guys need to be home soon." Josh chimed in. "Elder Kettle had plenty of time to rest and might be wondering where you guys are."
Before Cuphead could argue, suddenly, they all heard Mugman gasp and his face was in complete shock.
"Uh, Mugsy?" Cuphead asked.
They looked in the direction he was staring at and their mouths dropped open.
They didn't need to crash the party.
The party was at their house!
Turns out the Root Pack's idea for a 'great night' was hosting a party in their yard while Audrey swore she heard the theme for "Botanic Panic!" playing in the background.
There were a variety of veggies having a complete blast at the party. Chauncey was spraying water from a hose in his mouth like someone would do that at a bar, others were watching someone break a basket on his head, others were arm wrestling and many were dancing to the live music that was blasting.
"Ok, one; this is bad, two; how is there live music playing that isn't waking Elder Kettle up?!" Audrey asked as the boys marched to the front gate.
"I have no idea, but I don't wanna find out how Elder Kettle will react when he sees this." Josh added, as they heard the boys arguing with the anthropomorphic Eggplant who was acting like the bodyguard to a party.
"Well, check it again!" Mugman argued. "Mugman, Cuphead, Audrey and Josh!"
I'm telling you, you ain't on the list." The Eggplant grunted.
"But we live here!" Mugman argued.
Seeing arguing wasn't getting them anywhere, Cuphead was getting annoyed and decided to step in.
All right, enough!" He shouted, pushing his brother aside. "Hey, tough stuff, don't look now, but your hat's on crooked.
"It is?" He asked, feeling around.
Seeing he was distracted, the four of them slipped inside the yard, avoiding getting caught. It took him a second to realize something. "Hey, I ain't wearing a hat."
Once in the yard, the group looked around for Sal, according to Cuphead, until they found him talking to some fellow veggie pals.
"And I just say, "What money?" Sal replied, making the others laugh.
Cuphead marched up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, you! This ain't what we agreed to!"
"Ah, lighten up." Sal rolled his eyes, shoving Cuphead back a bit. He hopped back and gestured to two anthropomorphic tomato ladies. One was pink and the other was red.
"Let me introduce you to some friends of mine. The Heirloom sisters." Sal replied.
"I'm Cherry, and this is Brandywine." The red tomato smiled. "We're a couple of hot tomatoes."
"I don't care if you are cool cucumbers!" Audrey snapped. "You cannot have a party here!"
"Yeah! Make like a carrot and peel out of here!" Josh snapped. "I would say banana, but that's a fruit."
"But it's a swell party." Brandywine chimed in. "We was just about to bust the piñata. Wanna help?"
"No! I-wait. Did you say piñata?" Cuphead asked. "I love piñatas!"
He then grabs the stick and runs towards the piñata before Mugman and Josh grabbed him by the handle.
"Cuphead! We're not supposed to be enjoying this." He reminded his brother. "
"We're upset, remember?"
As Mugman walked towards the stage, Cuphead remembered. "Oh, right."
"Ok, this is crazy. What are we gonna do?" Audrey asked. "This is going to get rocked into party rubble."
"I know, I know." Josh nodded. "We need to find a way and fast. I wonder what Mugman is planning."
Mugman then marches up and climbs onto the stage. Even though he was on stage, the band kept on playing and ignored him.
"Uh, excuse me. Quiet!"
Seeing that no one was listening, he shouted "Everybody, listen up!"
Thankfully, the music stops, as the vegetables look at him silently.
So you're thinking this might be where he gives this whole speech about why they should leave, right?
Well, if you guys remembered from a few chapters back, Mugman has terrible stage fright, especially if it's in front of a small group as he's on a stage.
And of course, he becomes frozen in terror, unable to speak.
Mugman whimpers, before Cuphead, hoping to make the situation a bit better, also comes up onto the stage and shouted "Yeah, you heard my brother! Beat it!"
There was a very awkward silence. So much so that crickets began to chirp as a vegetable in the background coughs uncomfortably.
Chauncey, who was conducting the band, saw his chance and called out "Hit it!"
Just then, The music started playing again and the trumpets blew the brothers offstage and crash landed near Elder Kettle's garden.
They sat up and groaned, as Audrey and Josh rushed over and helped them up.
"You two ok?" Audrey asked.
"Yeah, I guess so." Mugman groaned. "Oh, I made such a fool of myself. I thought I could do it, but I couldn't."
"Hey, it's ok, Mugman. You tried." Josh reminded him. "But we need to come up with a more effective way to get them to leave."
Just then, they saw carrots nearby, chatting with one another.
"Hey, I'm parched. Wanna get a drink?" One asked his friend.
"Heck yeah!" They other beamed.
They both began to slurp the moisture from not only the ground but also from Elder Kettle's plants, making them wither.
They panicked, which was normal.
"They're killing Elder Kettle's babies!" Mugman gasped.
"Oh, jeez!" Audrey gasped. "This is bad!"
"We gotta bust this party up now!" Cuphead replied.
"Mm-hm!" Both agreed, nodding.
"Ok, boys." Josh chimed in. "What's plan A?"
"Here's my plan…"
Moments later, the vegetables are still enjoying the time of their lives, when suddenly, Cuphead and Mugman, who were dressed up as scarecrows, making scary noises and faces, hoping to scare them away.
They apparently remembered their 'training' from their time on the Phantom Express.
However, this gained the attention of a flock of crows, who started to peck at them. That caused the boys to cry in pain and eventually, they drove them away.
With that out of the way, the vegetables continue to party.
"Ok, that didn't work." Josh muttered, as he and Audrey got their costumes off and shooed away the crows. "No need to panic, there's only one way to break up a crazy party.
Shortly, Cuphead, who was reaching in the window while an impatient Mugman waited, pulled out the phone, which was connected to a very long cord.
"Operator, get me the police!" Cuphead replied on the other end.
Thankfully, the police arrived moments later in the front yard. The officers, who Audrey saw as some who worked at the Honeycomb Herald, popped their heads out from their car to confront the Eggplant.
"You ain't on the list." He simply replied.
"Ok, there's no way they're going to let someone like him get in the way-" but before Audrey could finished, one of the officer bees called out
"Sorry, boys. We gave it a shot."
Cuphead and Mugman's faces become disappointed, as the two policemen drive away, ironically backwards.
"What?! Unbelievable!" Josh shouted. "They can break up a loud quinceañera on campus, but they couldn't do anything about this?!"
Audrey gave herself a face palm, just as Sal popped his head over and taunted.
"Nice try, losers. This party ain't over till the sun comes up."
He then returned to the party, as the boys sighed in defeat. Just when all hope was lost, Cuphead came up with an idea, as his straw bended upright and formed into a light bulb.
Moments later, the heroes were on the roof, as Mugman was dressed in a chicken costume, er, rooster, my mistake, as he watched his brother tie some rope together.
""Till the sun comes up," eh?" He chuckled. "Well, let's see how they like this!"
He then lassoed the moon and began to tug on it with all his might, hoping to get the sun up, but, because he was really small, and the moon was a bit bigger, he couldn't. He was left dangling on the rope that was connected to the moon.
"Mugman! Do something!" Audrey cried.
"Uh, cock-a-doodle-doo?" He finally replied, shrugging.
They groaned. It was hopeless.
A bit later, the music and dancing had died down and the group sat at a table, watching the plants wither away to dust. Ollie was getting a shot of water, but Audrey didn't care.
She did have an idea to use bug spray on the plants, but worried she might hurt Kettle's plants, she was against it.
"Well, I guess that's it." Cuphead sighed. "We did everything we could, but nothin worked."
"Kettle's garden is as good as dead." Mugman whimpered.
"And so are we." Cuphead sighed. "We are going to be in sooo much trouble when he gets up."
Just then, they heard Ollie reply "Dead? *hic* Gee, that sure is sad."
Cuphead then pondered for a second, before he came up with another idea.
Nudging and winking at his brother, he added "Yep. This garden is all our poor Elder Kettle has makes you wanna cry."
Audrey was a bit confused about their idea, but then she saw Ollie tear up and then understood.
"Hmmm. I wonder if he can do the same thing the other one can…" She pondered.
"If the other can do what?" Josh asked.
"Trust me, you'll see." She smiled, as she saw the boys approach a sad Ollie.
"That's just *hic* terrible! Poor Elder Kettle."
"Without his garden, he's got nothing to live for." Cuphead mentioned, shaking his head sadly.
"Not that he has much time left." Mugman chimed in, making Ollie whimper.
"You know, with him being so elderly and all." Cuphead added, seeing the tears form on the onions face.
Audrey and Josh decided to have some fun and approached him, adding "Yeah, he nurtured them, watered them, made sure they were healthy."
"Yeah, he took care of them like they were his own." Josh claimed. "He'll be so sad and heartbroken for days and days and days."
Ollie whimpered more, as he's about to cry.
"And… did we mention that he's an… orphan?" Mugman asked.
"AN ORPHAN?!" Ollie screamed. That was the icing on the cake, as Ollie finally wails out an ocean of tears as his skin peeled, thus giving a nasty stench to the other vegetables as Cuphead and Mugman cross their arms and smile with pride.
"Guilt. Nice." Josh giggled, high-fiving the boys.
The stench was so strong it began to spread around the front yard. Audrey had to hold her nose as she felt tears sting her eyes.
"This guy. I love this guy." A carrot replied to his other carrot pal, a bit loopy.
Just then, they then sniffed Ollie's stench.
"Ugh! But I don't love this." The second carrot replied, both of them now crying.
"Let's get outta here!" the other wailed.
As the horrible smell spread throughout the area, the other vegetables began crying as well.
Sal, on the other hand, had other issues. He hopped after the tomato girls, as they were trying to leave.
"Cherry, Brandywine, wait!" He called.
"Fat chance, buster!" Cherry snapped, both having tears slipped down their faces.
"This turned out to be a real pity party." Brandywine added.
They then left, leaving Sal completely heartbroken.
"No! Come back!" That caused him to cry too.
Wow, and to think, I'm the emotional one in the family.
As all the vegetables were wailing to the point of the yard overflowing, it caused the front gate to crack open and let everyone out. Fortunately, for the brothers on the other hand, who were crying along with Audrey and Josh, the tear moisture waters Elder Kettle's plants and also grows more plants alongside with it.
"Their tears watered Elder Kettle's babies!" Cuphead wailed.
"The day is saved!" Mugman cried.
"Hooray!" Cuphead bawled.
Thankfully, the sun began to rise, and everything was back to normal.
Well, almost.
As the four continued to cry, Sal and Chauncey approached a drained out Ollie, not looking happy.
"You just had to start blubbering, didn't you?" Sal snapped, hitting Ollie on the head. Suddenly, the table beneath him collapsed.
After a bit of crying, the group composed themselves and approached the Root Pack.
"All right. Party's over." Cuphead announced.
"Yeah! Get out of here, you, uh, freeloaders!" Mugs chimed in.
"You had your fun, now go home!" Josh snapped.
"You know something? I'm starting to get the feeling we ain't wanted." Chauncey mentioned, snickering.
"Well, duh!" Audrey snapped. "You promised the boys to look after the garden but then threw a party instead! Just get out before I get really mad!"
"Well, then, maybe one last sip for the road." Sal suggested.
Before anyone could protest, the three veggies then planted themselves into the soil and started sucking up all the moisture from the plants, causing them to wither and die.
"No!" The four gasped.
"Are you KIDDING ME?!" Audrey snapped. "We just got them back!"
The Root Pack, who were now huge thanks to the water, gave a satisfying sigh as Sal let out a big belch. They then laughed at the group's misfortune, as Cuphead took the withered tomato which then poofs into dust and blows away.
"Maybe Elder Kettle won't notice?" Cuphead asked, nervously.
"You creeps! How can you do this?!" Audrey shouted, as Josh held her back from attacking them. "You had NO RIGHT to do that to them and you're gonna pay-"
Just then, they heard Elder Kettle, who was out of bed, scream, but not in anger to their surprise. More of, disbelief.
He fixed his back and cheered with joy "Yeah! My babies! You grew up to be so big!"
Now, he wasn't referring to the plants in the garden, but to the Root pack. It took them a second to realize that he thought they were his garden plants.
Turning in a huddle, Sal announced "Hear that, boys? This old jasper thinks we're his babies."
"Looks like we ain't orphans no more." Chaunceys snickered.
"It's a happy ending." Ollie beamed.
Well, not really.
Just then, they heard Elder Kettle snicker. They turned around feeling confident…but that turned to fear real quick, as they saw the old Kettle wear a chef hat and apron, holding two knives while standing on a ladder near a large pot of boiling water over a fire.
"Now it's time for Elder Kettle's famous baby stew!" Kettle snickered.
"And I see three perfectly good veggies for that." Audrey grinned evilly at the veggies, as Kettle sharpened his knives.
Seeing the mistake they made, the three veggies screamed in terror as they quickly retreated.
"Well, that solves that problem." Josh sighed, wiping his forehead.
"Yeah, and to fix this one." Audrey stated, viewing the messy area. Using her sketchbook, she cleaned the front yard and it looked good as new, nice and dry and tidy.
The boys took a sigh and slumped down.
"That was crazy." Cuphead panted.
"Same, I don't think I'll look at veggies the same." Mjugman sighed.
"Maybe we can take a break from all that excitement." Audrey mentioned. "You two take it easy, while Josh and I go to work."
"You sure you'll be ok?" Cuphead asked.
"Oh yeah. We've stayed up later before, and this evening, we'll go to bed early." Josh mentioned.
The two nodded and headed back inside while Elder Kettle gave chase to the loose veggies.
Thankfully, the day was a slow day and once it was late, the group headed to bed. Audie knew she was going to sleep well tonight.
Or at least, that's what she thought.
What a wild ride! Glad things worked out in the end. But it seems Audrey has someone missing from her life, but who could it be? Guess we'll have to find out.
Also, I'm so excited because the next few chapters are two of my favorite episodes! "Toon" in to see what'll happen then!
As always, thanks so much for reading! Don't forget to leave a review, but let's avoid the flames please :D
