The baby squirmed in her basinet, whimpering softly. Logan glanced over at Rory, who was sleeping soundly in the hospital bed. She murmured softly and began to stir, exhaustion making it hard for her to wake up.

"I got her Ace, you go back to sleep." He said softly. He walked over and quietly scooped Ivy up, his hands shaking with nervousness. Babies terrified him. He had never really been around anyone under the age of ten. In his world, children were shipped away, nothing more than a status symbol. It would not be that way with Ivy. She weighed no more than a small sack of sugar, and seemed more delicate than a porcelain doll. Yes she was fragile, but the thing that terrified him the most, was how much he loved her. He loved her more than life itself. When the doctor had held her up, Logan instantly knew he would go to the ends of the earth for her, protect her, provide for her, love her unconditionally. He was head over heels. He had spent most of the night watching her sleep, memorizing her angelic pout, her rounded cheeks, the soft tuft of blonde wispy hair on top of her head.

Ivy whimpered louder, directing his attention to her. He hugged her close to him, rocking her gently. "Hi Ivy. My pretty girl! It's ok, daddy's got you."

The infant began to calm, recognizing the sound of his voice, so he continued to talk to her. "I can't believe how much I love you already, it's crazy. I should have known though, your mom broke me like a wild horse. Seriously! There's just something about you Gilmore girls, you have that effect on men! I never in a million years thought about having kids, but as soon as I met your mom, My whole world changed. I foolishly threw it away, but you brought her back to me. So I guess I have you to thank for that."

Ivy's wide blue eyes stared up at him, drinking it all in.

He smiled at her. "I promise you I'm going to be the best dad I can be. I didn't have very good role models, but I could never hurt you like that. I'm trying my hardest. " He slid his pinky into Ivy's hand, and watched in amazement as the newborn instinctively curled her hand around it.

" We'll take trips up to the vineyard every summer, and I promise I won't be working, I'll be out there building sand castles with you. I'm going to do everything with you that my parents never did. Everything that I wanted them to do."

"You're already a better parent then they'll ever be." Rory mumbled from the bed.

Logan looked up smirking. "How much have you heard?"

She grinned. "Enough to make me want a million more babies with you. She's turned you into a big pile of mush and I love it!"

Ivy whimpered, squirming slightly in her swaddle.

Rory motioned for her. "Here she's probably getting hungry."

Logan walked over to her, cradling the baby gently. He reminded her of a child holding a mug of steaming hot cocoa, moving ever so delicately. He kissed the top of Ivy's head and slipped her into Rory's arms. Rory glanced up at Logan, kissing him softly.

He smirked as they broke apart. "A million more babies huh?"

"Knock Knock!" Lorelai called from behind the curtain. "I come bearing gifts."

She sauntered into the room, a big smile on her face. She handed Logan a paper bag and a coffee cup. "For dad we have coffee, black and an everything bagel straight from Luke's." she turned to Rory, "and for mom, we have a cheeseburger with extra bacon and cheese, and a large coffee with a double shot."

Rory grabbed the cup, hugging it to her. "I've waited 9 months for you." she said dreamily.

Ivy began to cry louder, her newborn squawk steadying. Lorelai laughed. "And by the sound of that cry you'll be waiting a little longer."

Rory handed Logan her coffee. "Yeah, she needs to eat."

Luke cleared his throat, "I could. . . um. . . feed her so you could eat."

Lorelai and Rory both awed in unison, knowing Luke was not usually a fan of babies.

"Thanks Luke but I. . . she's. . ." Rory stumbled.

"She's breast fed." Lorelai blurted out, causing Rory's cheeks to blush a bright crimson red, while simultaneously causing Luke's face to lose all color.

"Oh so you're. . . I . . um. . I'm going to go see if the gift shop has any balloons. Babies like to look at balloons right?" he sputtered, before hightailing it out of the hospital room.

Logan laughed. "I'll go with him." He gave Rory a quick peck and chased after Luke.

Lorelai chuckled. "The sad thing is, he's come a long way since the ol' Jam hands rant in the diner."

Rory smiled as she began to feed the infant. "He's grown so much."

Lorelai sat down in the chair beside the hospital bed. "We all have. Especially you and Logan. You two are great parents."

Rory unsnapped her hospital gown. Ivy latched on and began to feed, making happy little grunting noises. Rory was amazed that everything this tiny human did was absolutely adorable. "We haven't even left the hospital yet, let's not make that judgment yet."

Lorelai laughed. "Trust me kid, you're doing a great job."

"I hope so."

"I told Logan this a long time ago, and now I'm telling you. The fact that you're worried about being a good parent, means you already are one."

"Thanks mom." Rory's eyes began to mist over, and she quickly closed them tight.

Lorelai placed her hand on Rory's shoulder. "Oh hun."

Rory sniffled, unable to control the tears.

Lorelai hugged her, trying not to disrupt Ivy's feeding. "I am so proud of you. When you called me way back in July, I'll admit, It took a minute to wrap my head around. A baby is going to change your life, in a big, huge way. I was worried, because I thought it was the last thing you needed, but look at your life now. . . it's exactly what you needed. I was worried, but look at you!"

"I love you mom. I mean. . . I always have. . . but having Ivy, a daughter of my own. . . it makes me realize how much you love me. How hard it was. . .I love you so much."

Lorelai smiled, her eyes now also brimming with tears. "I love you too kid." She wiped her eyes with her sleeve. "Stupid hormones."

Rory laughed. Ivy softly unlatched, now in a drowsy haze. "Mom? There is something. . . I. . . I've been meaning to talk to you."

"Yeah, what about?"

"Logan asked me to move in with him. He has this whole, amazing nursery set up, and. . ."

Lorelai nodded softly. "Of course. You three belong together. You're a family."

"I'm going to miss you."

"Miss me? You're not getting rid of me that easy! Especially since you just introduced me to this sweet little thing." She said motioning to Ivy.

Rory sniffled, handing Ivy over to Lorelai.

"Oh no more waterworks? You okay Ace?" Logan said, poking his head into the room.

Rory laughed as she wiped away a stray tear. "I'm a mess."

"Rory was just telling me about the amazing nursery at your place."

"It is pretty amazing, if I say so myself." Logan smiled. "Little Ivy has the most impressive library for someone who can't even hold her own head up yet."

Rory smiled. "It rivals mine."

"I'm really happy for you two. I'm glad you're moving in together. Just don't call me at two a.m. when she won't sleep!" Lorelai laughed.

"You can visit anytime you want, but don't worry about the two a.m. shift, I've got that covered." Logan replied, practically beaming.

Rory sighed. "Until you go back to work."

"OH MY GOSH!" Lorelai gasped, startling Ivy. She rocked her softly, apologizing profusely to the tiny infant. She lowered her voice to a whisper. "Sorry. I forgot to tell you, Bernie called. He sold the paper."

"He sold it? He actually sold it?" Rory grimaced.

Lorelai leaned over kissing Rory softly on the head. "I'm sorry kid. Don't worry, you'll find something else."

Rory picked at the raw edge of her blanket, trying to stave off the tears. "I know. . . it's just. . The gazette was perfect. Ivy could go to work with me, and if something really newsworthy did happen, you were just a short jog away to babysit."

Logan cleared his throat. "I've got some exciting work news too."

Rory's head whipped around. "You do?"

Logan smiled. "I no longer work For Huntzberger Publishing."

This time Rory gasped, but quickly clamped her hand over her mouth to not wake Ivy.

Logan nodded. "I withdrew my trust fund."

"Oh Logan you didn't have to. . ."

He held up his hand. "Let me finish. I bought something with it. A newspaper."

Rory's eyes bulged out of her head. "You bought the Stars Hollow Gazette?"

Logan shook his head. "No"

Rory's face fell, crestfallen.

"The Hartford Herold bought the Stars Hollow Gazette. . ." Logan said, a mischievous grin spread across his face. "I bought the Harford Herold."

Rory's face lit up. "You've saved the Gazette!"

Logan nodded. "I've already worked some things out with Taylor Doose. We're going to run ads for local businesses to generate some revenue. You can work at the gazette, and when you're ready, go back to the campaign trail, Ivy and I can hold down the fort in Stars Hollow until you come back."

"I get to keep my job."

Logan leaned down, giving her a quick peck on the cheek. "Actually, you get a promotion. Bernie is stepping down, how would you like to be editor in chief?"

Rory practically squealed with delight. "Logan Huntzberger I love you!"

Logan kissed her softly. "I love you too."

"And I love a good case of nepotism." Lorelai whispered to Ivy, chuckling softly.

Rory stared in awe at the tiny newborn snuggled up close to her chest. She still couldn't believe that she had created this tiny, perfect human.

Rory heard the door opening, and waited for the cheery greeting of her postpartum nurse. However it wasn't the nurse. Shira Huntzberger wafted in, like a deadly hurricane blowing ashore. She was clad in a gaudy fox fur coat, making her small frame look beastly. She waltzed up to the bed, tossing her cream colored Hermes bag on the chair. Rory's face quickly changed from delight to disgust.

Logan saw the look of disgust spread across Rory's face and whipped his head around. "What are you doing here?" He spat.

Shira smiled, rolling her eyes. "Please Logan, save the dramatics, you're not even the hormonal one." She peered over looking at the bundle in Rory's arms. "Let me see my grandchild."

Rory brought the baby protectively to her chest, a scowl across her face. "You are not her grandmother. You are nothing to her."

Shira let out a short, sharp bark of laughter. She turned to Logan. "Are you going to let her speak to me like that?"

His jaw was tense, Rory could tell that he was practically seething. "You're lucky she even talked to you."

"Logan Elias Huntzberger. . ."

Logan shook his head. "She's right, you are nothing to her."

"I am her grandmother."

"To be her grandmother, you would have to be a mother to me first." He swallowed hard. "She will never know you or dad. I refuse to let her be hurt by you."

"Stop being silly. Yes, we may disagree on our idea of suitable mates for someone of the Huntzberger dynasty, but there's no need to go overboard."

"Overboard? We are her parents, we're doing what we're supposed to do. We're protecting her."

Shira recoiled, like a child who had just been scolded. "Parents?. . . you've been parents for all of 24 hours."

Logan stood up. "And you know what? I've already shown her more love and attention in those 24 hours, than you did my entire life! I don't know how you could have a child and treat them like some kind of accessory, paraded around and then shuttled off to a nanny at the first need. In those 24 hours it became clear to me that you didn't want a child, you wanted an heir, someone to carry on the name, regardless of their wants or feelings. I refuse to let her anywhere around you, or dad, and the toxic stress that comes from not living up to your entitled standards!"

Shira brought her hand to her chest, absolutely dumbfounded by Logan's verbal assault. "Why I never. . ."

Rory held up her nurse call button. "Would you like to leave on your own or should I ring the nurse and get security involved?"

Shira grabbed her bag from the chair. "YOU WILL REGRET THIS LOGAN!" she huffed, and stormed out, like a dog with its tail between its legs.

Logan walked over to the bed, kissing Rory gently on top of the head. "I'm sorry."

Rory scooted slightly, patting the empty spot of the hospital bed next to her and Ivy.

Logan crawled in, easing next to her. She kissed him softly. " No, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I'm sorry you were given her as a mother. You are worthy of so much Logan. You deserve love and attention, and I'm sorry they never gave that to you. You deserve family."

He smiled, and wrapped his arm around her. He glanced down at baby Ivy, who had slept soundly through the whole ordeal. "I have all the family I need right here."
