Chapter One

The aura was hard to pin down when it was as powerful as it was. Just when she thought she had it narrowed down, turns out that's not the case at all. She frowned and leaned against the pole beside her, folding her arms with a mild pout pulling at her mouth.

"Why can't it just be as easy as sensing the jewel shards?" she muttered under her breath. She shook her head the next second, looking down at where Kirara sat on the ground by her feet. She crouched down, pulling a treat from her pocket for her. "No luck either, huh?" she mused softly to the demon.

"Mew!" Kirara nudged against her fingers, bumping her head into her hand, and Kagome rested her chin in her other hand.

How frustrating…

Footsteps coming from behind her caught her attention, but she didn't bother to move.

"Megumi-kun," she called out, not bothering to look his way as he closed the distance between them. He paused, looking in her direction and waiting for her to continue. "You're not having any luck, either," she sighed. "Are you?"

He shook his head as she stood back up. After she did, Kirara leaped up onto her shoulder, making herself comfortable as Kagome turned to face her companion.

"Man," she sighed, folding her arms across her chest. She closed her eyes, thinking quietly to herself as she tried to focus on the distinct aura of the cursed object. It didn't do any good in the end. The entire area was almost saturated in it, after all.

Just as she was about to give up, she felt it. The aura was more sharp, gathered tighter in a certain location. Her eyes shot open as she turned to face the direction she felt it in. Her reaction caught Megumi's attention.

"What is it?" he asked, readily coming up to her side.

"Long shot, but…" Kagome narrowed her eyes before looking up at her companion. "Over that way, there's something, at least."

"Let's go," he responded. Kagome nodded in agreement, taking the lead.

If she was aware of his gaze fixed on her, she didn't show any reaction. As he walked a couple of paces behind her, Megumi kept his attention on her.

Sometimes it was hard to believe she was really that guy's sister. After all…

"You didn't have to come on this mission with me," he stated. "Why did you decide to go?"

When she tilted her head to the side, it was a sign she'd heard him. A moment later, she glanced back at him. "Why wouldn't I?" she asked in return, tone innocently curious.

"You wouldn't have to deal with this," he responded. Kagome shrugged, letting her gaze drop to the ground as she walked.

"Sure, this is kinda annoying, but it's not so bad," she mused. "Anyway, if I'm with you, it doesn't matter because I'm having fun either way, Megumi-kun."

Her honest reply stunned him.

"Anyway…" she was oblivious to the effect her words had on him. A small smile lifted her expression as she raised her hand to cover the Shikon no Tama. "It's almost like…"

Something about going on these missions and hunting these things out reminded her of hunting for the jewel shards. It made her feel closer to that part of her life now that it was all done and over with.

"I know I can go home wherever I want," she stated as an afterthought. She looked up at the sky, dark glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. "I just don't want to yet," she continued. "Not without you, at least."

She felt his gaze fixed on the back of her head, and curiosity finally got the better of her. She glanced over her shoulder, looking for his own gaze. Once she caught his attention, she frowned.

"What's with that look?" she asked. He looked surprised. Had she said something wrong? "Did I say something weird?" she asked, concern peppering her voice among her genuine curiosity.

Her question knocked him from his stupor, and he looked away. His gaze fell to the ground. She frowned when he avoided her gaze all of a sudden. "No, it's fine," he stated. "Don't worry about it."

Kagome's frown deepened when she got the feeling he wasn't being as honest with her. Still, she knew better than to push and she let it drop for now. She'd ask again later when the time was better.

She turned back forward, coming to a halt when a strange aura brushed along her senses. Megumi paused beside her, seeming to take note of the same thing as she had.

"What's with this rugby field?" he asked out loud. The cursed spirit roaming around was easy to spot as it crawled through the ground.

"Someone must've died here," Kagome mused softly. "The body might still be buried around here…"

"Still, even if that's the case," Megumi responded. "I'm surprised to see a cursed spirit like this so high-leveled."

It removed itself from the ground, crawling up onto one of the goalposts. Kirara sat up on her shoulder, fur bristling in silent warning. Kagome reached to pat her head to settle her some. It didn't necessarily seem to want to come at them.

"Probably a Grade Two curse," he continued. "Must be because of that object's influence."

Kagome nodded. She turned away from it and continued on her way to what she'd felt. It was closer now, but it was still hard to pin down. It was around here somewhere, at least.

"Let's head up here," she called out to the boy with her. He was in agreement with her. "I'm not too surprised that it's so hard to narrow down," she mused out loud.

"It's a special grade," he responded, and Kagome nodded.

"Just like the Shikon no Tama," she sighed. The only reason it was so easy for her to sense the shards was because of her connection to the jewel. "Haah… if only I had some sort of connection to this thing," she grumbled. "Maybe it'd be easier that way."

"That'd be too dangerous," Megumi responded. Kagome nodded in faint agreement, but she still couldn't deny her claim.

"Over here!"

Kagome paused at hearing the unfamiliar voice in the distance. They made it to the top of a staircase, both of them coming to a halt at the sight of students at the school congregating in a field.

"Coach Takagi is taking on Itadori from West Middle!"

The clamor from them was far from what she focused on. Still, when the uproar from the students came, she couldn't help but glance and see what'd happened.

No matter the reason for the contest, that Itadori kid had beaten the coach by impressive measures. Her gaze landed on the dented goalpost, an imprint from the heavy ball striking it apparent.

"Impressive," Kagome hummed. It's not often you see an ordinary person with such physical strength. She kept walking, trying to gauge where the aura was strongest. It had to be somewhere around there, but…

"He pulled it off without any cursed energy," Megumi stated. "I wonder if he's like Zenin-senpai." He glanced at Kagome when she picked her head up. In the same second, that guy ran past them, and she turned after him.

"Wait just a second…" she muttered. "It feels like…"

"The presence of a cursed object." Megumi finished for her, mirroring her actions when he, too, seemed to pick up on the same thing she had—the concentrated energy of a cursed object. "Hey, you!" he shouted, sprinting after the boy. His words went unheard as he got further away. "Wait!"

They reached the bottom of the steps, and he was already out of sight.

"He's so fast!" Kagome exclaimed.

"I heard Itadori can run fifty meters in three seconds," a voice from behind her responded to her, and she glanced at the unfamiliar boy.

"Is she new here…?" his friend at his side asked in passing.

"I hope so! She's pretty cute…!"

Kagome had tuned them out at that point, Megumi being the only one between them who heard what had been said. He looked away from her and to the two who'd walked off, a glare on his face.

"Is he even human…?" Kagome muttered under her breath. Either way, his physical strength was impressive…

"It doesn't matter," he said. Kagome looked up at him. "Come on!" Megumi took her by her wrist and tugged her behind him. Kagome was swift to move, matching his pace readily.

"Kirara."

On cue, the feline lounging on her shoulder sat up. She'd be able to track him far quicker than them, and she'd be able to find Kirara anywhere.

"Track him by his scent," she ordered. "We'll catch up, so, for now, just stick close by him."

With those words, the feline had darted off after the long-gone boy. As she did, the pair were able to slow their pace a bit.

"She'll find him in no time," Kagome said. "Tracking her will be easier on my senses, too," she added.

For now, all they had to do was let her track him down in the city.

A cream-colored cat following after him caught his attention, and he came to a pause. Looking at her, he tilted his head to the side before couching to be closer to her. Once he had, she got closer. He held his hand out, and she nudged up against it after giving him a few cautionary sniffs.

"What're you up to?" Yuji asked after a moment. The collar around her neck caught his attention and he frowned. "Your owner must be worried about you all the way out here…" he trailed off. "You should get home now."

She didn't seem to understand him, not that he expected her to in the first place. She cocked her head to the side the following second. He stood up, but when he did, he was startled when she followed. She jumped, landing on his shoulder without even needing her claws to latch into his shirt.

"Woah!" Yuji was taken aback when she took to making herself comfortable on his shoulder. Before he could even try to coax her down, she'd already settled into a spot. He sighed, more amused by her behavior than anything.

"Okay, okay," he said as he started walking again. "If you want, you can come with me for now."

Before long, he'd made it to his destination, and he came to a halt just before the entrance to the hospital. He reached up and picked the cat lounging on his shoulder up to set her down on the ground.

"You can't come in with me," he said. "Animals aren't allowed inside."

She cocked her head to the side and he reached to pet her. A second later, he stood back up and turned.

"I'll be back in a few hours." He had no idea if she'd hang around without him there, but he felt the need to tell her that. He walked through the door, but, to his surprise, the cat bounded through just after him. Just as he was about to pick her up, a familiar voice reached his ears.

"Here to visit your grandfather?" a nurse asked, and he nodded.

"Yup," Yuji responded. He glanced back at the cat and sighed, turning back to the nurse. "Ah, yeah, sorry about the cat…" he trailed off. "She just followed me inside. I'll get-"

The nurse gave him a curious look. "What cat?" she asked. As if on cue, Kirara leaped up onto his shoulder, nudging his face with her whiskers. Yuji motioned to her, but all he received in return was a blank stare. He sighed and shook his head.

"Never mind…" he trailed off. Was he just going crazy?

He glanced at the cat, crimson eyes peering back at him as he walked down the hall.

"No one can see you, huh?" he muttered, receiving a faint purring noise in return. "You definitely feel real, but…"

He sighed and shook his head.

Weird.

000

It didn't feel real.

Signing the last of the paperwork didn't make it seem any more real, either.

"That should be the last of the paperwork we need from you," the nurse at the counter said. She gathered the last sheet and set it aside. A second later, she looked at him. "Are you okay?" she asked, tone soft.

"Well," Yuji kept his gaze down. On his shoulder was the cat that'd followed him. She hadn't strayed from his side, and it was somewhat comforting. Even if no one else could see her, it made him feel less alone in a way. "This is my first time dealing with something like this," he said. "It doesn't feel quite real yet," he admitted. "I know Grandpa would snap if he saw me moping around, though, so I'll just have to laugh it up as I roast him," he added with a faint laugh.

"Phrasing," the nurse across from him chided softly.

She turned to sort the papers, and Yuji stepped away from the counter. The cat on his shoulder nudged his face, and a small smile appeared.

"It's nice to have you around, I guess," he mused, reaching to pet her head. "At the very least, I didn't have to go through it on my own."

Only a cat or not, her presence was comforting.

A moment passed, and she perked up. He noticed instantly, and, when she jumped off his shoulder, he turned to face the direction she ran off in. She hadn't gone far before stopping. Across from him were two individuals, both looking to be around him in age. The one the cat had gone to was a girl with long dark hair that was left free to fall past her shoulders. She also had a pair of dark glasses resting on the bridge of her nose, even while inside the dim room.

"Well done, Kirara," she hummed softly as she jumped up into her open arms. She gave a mew in response as she nudged against her.

"So, she's your cat huh?" Yuji asked. She looked up and met his gaze.

"You could see her," Kagome stated. She ignored his question for the time being, and he nodded.

"Yeah, but it's weird," he said. "Everyone else just ignored her."

Kagome eyed him closely. "Other people weren't able to see her," she responded. "Ordinary people can't see her."

Her response didn't give any real answers, and the confusion showed on his face. "What do you mean by that?"

"It doesn't matter right now," Megumi cut into their conversation Kagome glanced up at him, knowing he was right. They didn't have time for a casual chat about this right now. "You're Itadori Yuji, correct?"

He nodded. "Yeah, that's me."

"I'm Fushiguro from Jujustu Tech," he said, but before he could get to her, she heartily cut him off.

"You can just call me Kagome!" She introduced herself before holding the cat in her arms up a bit higher, and he looked back down at her. "This is my companion, Kirara. I sent her to follow after you," she admitted. Yuji looked puzzled.

"Huh?" he looked back at her face. Blue eyes behind dark glasses shone brilliantly. "How come?"

"We need to have a word with you," Megumi stated. "Now."

"Um… I'm in mourning right now," Yuji responded. Still, he followed and joined them in the dim waiting room.

"Sorry, but this really can't wait," Megumi said. "The cursed object in your possession is hazardous. You need to hand it over and we'll go."

Yuji tilted his head to the side in confusion. "Cursed object?" he asked. "What are you talking about?"

"This." Megumi pulled his phone out and showed him a photo of the object in question. At once, it sparked a reaction from him.

"Oh yeah! I know what you're talking about now," he said. "Yeah, I found that earlier." He leaned against the back of the couch, bracing his weight with one hand as he looked between the pair. "I don't care either way," he stated, "but my senpai really took a liking to it." He paused and glanced back at Megumi. "Wait, you said it's dangerous? How so?"

"The number of unexplained deaths and missing persons in Japan exceeds ten thousand a year on average," Megumi stated. "Most of those are a result of curses."

"Curses?" Yuji repeated the word, glancing off to the side.

"Whether you believe in them or not isn't important," Megumi responded. "Large pools of negative energy form easily in places like schools and hospitals. Shame, hate, regrets…"

"Those negative emotions are what becomes the source of curses," Kagome stated. "There are plenty of schools that keep a cursed object as protection against them. A talisman, if you will," she explained. "That's exactly what you found, Yuji-kun."

He glanced at her. "If that's what it's for, then why should we be worried about it? Shouldn't we be grateful to have it?"

"Not exactly…" Kagome stated.

"Placing a cursed object of higher evil acts like a poison that keeps other curses away. It's a bad practice that only claims to protect. Over time, that seal will weaken and it started to act as bait, luring other curses in," Megumi said. "The one you found is dangerous. It's classified as a Special Grade. You need to hand it over before people start to die."

"I already told you," Yuji said as he tugged the box from his pocket. He tossed it over, but opening it revealed an empty holder. "My senpai have it."

"It was just the residue within the box…" Kagome trailed off, turning her gaze to Yuji. "Wait…!" She reached for his wrist, snagging him to a halt before he could walk off. "Where are they?"

"They should be at the school," Yuji responded. "They were talking about removing the talisman from it tonight in our clubroom."

Her grip on his wrist fell as she took a step back, worry entering her eyes. When they both had backed away, Yuji noticed, tilting his head to the side.

"What're those looks for?" he asked, rubbing the back of his head. "Is that bad or something?"

"It's worse than bad," Megumi stated. "If they do that, they're going to die."

000

The sun had fallen beneath the horizon when the trio left the hospital. Running down the street, they didn't encounter anyone out and walking around.

"How easy is it to get the seal off?" Yuji asked.

"Normally it's impossible unless you have cursed energy," Megumi responded.

"Go right," Yuji said. "It's a shortcut!"

They did as he instructed, diverging down the path to the right.

"This time the object itself is too strong, and the seal is ancient," Megumi continued. "It might as well be normal paper."

"Man…" Yuji responded. "I still don't get all this stuff about curses."

His statement was ignored. "Where will they be?" Megumi asked.

"The club room is on the fourth floor!"

Just before they could reach the main gate, they came to a stop due to an intense pressure infecting the air around them.

"What is this?" Yuji asked. "The air's so heavy…"

Kagome walked around him, Kirara's fur standing on end. Not long after, Megumi followed. Before Yuji could, he was stopped by Megumi.

"You stay here," he stated. He scaled the fence, landing on the other side. Kagome did the same, landing on her feet beside him. Once she had, Kirara jumped from her shoulder.

"I'm going too," Yuji argued. "It's dangerous, right? I've only known them for a few months, but they're my friends. I can't just sit back and do nothing if they're in danger!"

"Stay here," Megumi said. He didn't give him a chance to respond before he ran off. Kagome stood by the gate, glancing back at Yuji.

"He can't be serious," he said, looking at her. Kagome sighed and rubbed the back of her head.

"He is," she said. She glanced at Kirara and nodded. A second later, her smaller form vanished in a blaze of flames. Yuji took a step back, eyes wide. "It's dangerous for them, and it's dangerous for you, Yuji-kun." She set her hand on Kirara's back before hopping up on her. "Fourth floor, right?" she asked, and he nodded.

"Y-Yeah…"

"I can't force you to stay out of it," she stated as she turned away. "You're going to do what you think is best," she hummed softly. "Just… whatever it is, make sure you've thought it through. Rushing into something you've never seen before can be… -"

"Dangerous?" Yuji finished for her, and she offered him a smile.

"Oh, well, I was going to say stupid, but I suppose you're right, too," Kagome said with a laugh. "Bye-bye for now."

000

She caught up with Megumi quickly. Tracking his aura through the web of cursed energy was far easier than trying to track the object they'd been after all this time. She made it to the floor he was on, hopping off of Kirara's back as she urged her forward.

He'd already summoned his Divine Dogs, and she sent Kirara ahead to assist them. Once she had, she caught up to his side. As they made their way further down the hall, more and more curses kept appearing.

"There's so many of them," Kagome noted.

"Then we must be getting close," he responded. They turned a corner and were forced to a halt when a large mass blocked the hall. Among the curses were two students. By the look of it, the two of them…-

"They're going to be consumed by them," Kagome said. Her eyes landed on the girl in the middle. From her pocket, the binding of the seal was visible. "She's the one who has the object."

"We won't make it in time."

"Maybe so," Kagome responded, taking a step forward. She searched for a weak point, any, and she finally found one. "Kirara!"

The saber-toothed demon picked her head up at the sound of Kagome's voice.

"Don't hold back," she ordered. At the same time, she lifted her hands. A pink glow in the shape of a bow and arrow flickered within her hands, much like flames. "Megumi-kun… act quickly."

Just before she could release the drawstring, the window beside them was smashed open from the outside. She reacted quickly upon realizing who it was, letting her weapon fade from her hands to prevent Yuji from getting hurt as he barreled through the window.

"Itadori!"

He delivered a sharp punch to the middle of the mass, the brute force behind his physical strength causing it to loosen its grip on the two it held. It let go enough for him to grasp them both and tug them free.

"So this is a curse…?" he mumbled once he'd gotten far enough away. He set the two safely down, but neither of them showed signs of regaining consciousness. "This isn't what I was expecting…" he admitted.

Kagome moved automatically to where the three were. Kirara had retreated, as well. With no more risk, Megumi was quick to destroy the amassed curse in the hallway. Once he had, he turned his attention to Yuji.

"I want to ask what you're doing here," he stated. "But good job."

"What are those things munching on the curse?" Yuji asked, and Megumi glanced at the two wolves in question.

"They're my shikigami," Megumi responded. "You can see them?"

"Am I not suppsoed to?" Yuji asked. "Like how I'm not supposed to see Kirara?" he added, nodding his head in the large feline's direction.

Kagome approached Yuji, dropping to her knees beside him to observe the two. She placed a hand on the two, and a pink glow surrounded her. "Not quite," she said. She didn't lift her focus from what she did, not even as Yuji looked at her. "Kirara is a demon, not a shikigami. Her collar acts as an illusion over her so normal people can't see her. Otherwise, I'd get a lot of strange questions about her."

"Normally a curse can't be seen," Megumi stated. "The exceptions are typically when someone is on the verge of death or in places such as this."

"I guess that makes sense," Yuji responded, glancing back at the two wolves. "I've never seen a ghost or anything like that before tonight." He looked at Kagome, genuine curiosity in his eyes. "What are you doing?"

She didn't answer at first, merely focusing on what she was doing. A moment later, a soft hum came from her. "They're unconscious, but, other than that, there should be no lasting wounds."

He noticed the blood had faded. When she looked up at him, he didn't miss the pink ring shining in her shimmering blue pools. The jewel around her neck seemed to radiate a pink glow. She removed her hands from where they'd been placed, pushing herself up from her knees. "You healed them?" he asked, eyes wide.

"It's the least I could do after that super-cool stunt you pulled, Yuji-kun!" She gave a sigh and shook her head, resting her hands on her hips. "Next time, just give a warning. You nearly got yourself killed." If he'd gotten in the way of her arrow, he'd been a goner!

"Oh, well, you said it yourself," he responded with a grin. "Rushing into something you've never seen can be stupid."

She heaved another sigh, shaking her head.

"You're not scared, are you?" Megumi asked.

"I mean, I was for a little bit," he admitted. "You know, though? People really die," he said. "I want the people I know to have proper deaths." He moved to stand up, picking up one of them. As he did, the binding in her skirt fell out. Not long after, the cursed object did the same. Before it could hit the ground, Yuji caught it. "This what you two are looking for?" he asked, holding it up.

"That's the special grade cursed item, Ryomen Sukuna's finger," Megumi said. Yuji looked down at what he held. "It's just a miracle nothing ate it."

"Why would anything wanna eat it?" Yuji quesioned. "Is it supposed to taste good or something?"

"Don't be stupid," Megumi responded flatly.

"Others consume the cursed objects to inherit their power," Kagome explained. "It gives them its cursed energy."

"That thing's dangerous," Megumi said, holding a hand out. "Give it to me."

"Yeah, sure," Yuji responded, holding it out for one of them to take. Before anyone could move, something coming through the ceiling ripped the calm around them to shreds. Before it could come down on top of them, she summoned a barrier. It crashed against it as Megumi shoved Yuji from its path.

Enough force caused her barrier to shatter, and she was knocked aside. She landed not far from the rest. The pain she was met with from her shattered barrier was intense, but she brushed it aside. Blood settled on her tongue, and she ignored the taste. When the dust cleared, she pushed herself up to her feet, Yuji following suit.

Caught by the curse, Megumi attempted to summon another shikigami, only for his attempt to be interrupted when he was thrown into the wall. His divine dogs melted away as a result of his injury.

"Megumi-kun!" Kagome cried as she abandoned her spot beside the others. Before she could make it to his side, the curse attacked again, knocking a hole through the wall and sending the both of them through it. "Kirara, guard!"

Yuji watched where she'd just been, watching as she ran through the hole blasted through the wall. Her cat remained behind, taking a stance before the two that were still unconscious. He reached a hand out to pat the top of her head. She leaned into his touch. "You got it?" he asked. Crimson eyes peered at him as he let his hand fall. He turned to face the direction the rest had gone. "Good kitty," he said. The next second, he'd run after Kagome.

She made it to Megumi's side, The curse was swift to notice her, and she paused in front of Megumi. Her hand went up to the jewel, gripping it tight as the glow burned harshly.

"Hikari."

At the utterance of the word, a bright barrier encased them, guarding them from the curse. A pink ring had formed within her eyes again, standing out against her normal blue.

The moment the curse reached for this one, it reeled back automatically as its flesh was burned. With it like that, she let her attention shift to Megumi.

"Are you okay?" she asked, crouching in front of him, hands held out at the ready.

"I can't think straight," he responded, and she frowned, spotting the blood covering the side of his face.

"How hard did you hit your head?" she questioned softly. A jolt raced through her body when the curse struck her barrier with more force, the pristine white cracking under the weight. She ignored the pain, rising back onto her feet. "We'll take care of this and then head back," she stated. Before she could offer him a hand, another person joining the fray caught their attention.

"Itadori!" Megumi shouted. She turned to face the curse, spotting the boy attacking it.

"You're gonna get hurt!" she cried. "Take Kirara and get your friends to safety!"

"No way!" came his response as he evaded the curse. "You guys are in big trouble with this thing!"

"That doesn't matter!" Megumi argued back. "Only curses can exorcise curses. You can't beat it!"

"Is this really the best time to say that?!" Yuji shouted, still not backing down at the curse turned its full attention on him. "You're gonna die at this rate!" As he was tossed around, he kept a firm grip on the curse, not letting it go even when it lunged at him. "If I went home now and pretended none of this happened, I'd be having nightmares. Besides…-" His grip on it slipped, and he caught himself before he could fall off the railing. The next second, he lunged for it again. "I have my own troublesome curse already!"

He was knocked aside, his grip on the cursed object he held faltering.

"No wonder it's become distracted!" Kagome noticed once it was out in the open. When Yuji was caught by the curse, he managed to catch the object between his teeth before it could fall into its grip.

"You idiot!" Megumi shouted, and Kagome let her barrier fall so they both could move towards the curse. "Hand it over before you're eaten along with it!"

As the curse tried to force him and the object into its mouth, the finger was soon tossed into the air.

"There's a way to save everyone!" Yuji shouted. "I just need some cursed energy, right, Fushiguro?!"

"Don't!

"Yuji-kun, that's-!"

Their shouts went ignored as he consumed the object.

"It's a poison," Megumi said following his action. "He's going to die."

"There's a one in a million chance that…" Kagome trailed off, and he knew what she was getting at.

"That's not any better," he said, and shook her head.

"... I know," she responded.

They looked to where Yuji was. Before the curse could try and fit him inside its mouth, he moved his arms. Its grip on him was torn to shreds, pieces of it splattering around. Freed from its grasp, he landed on his feet on the ground, stumbling a bit, but not falling.

The first change she took note of was the black lines forming around his wrists. As the curse ran at him, he didn't move other than lifting an arm. As he did, a harsh burst ripped the curse into bits- eradicating it entirely. Long, purple nails were visible on his hands.

The second following the destruction of the curse, she felt it.

Her eyes went wide, and she backed up a step. "Oh no."

Clouds moved from the sky, and the moonlight came back. As it did, his stance changed a bit, and he turned to the side. When he did, they were able to see the markings on his face, as well as the extra set of eyes just below his others.

The silence was broken as he began to laugh. A voice far different from Yuji's normal one reached her ears. It seemed like he wasn't paying them any attention at first. He grasped at his shirt, and it was ripped seconds later.

"Ah! I knew it!" he shouted. "The light feels best in the flesh!"

"The special grade object has incarnated," Megumi said, and Kagome nodded. This was the worst-case scenario.

"A cursed spirit's flesh is so boring," Sukuna, the object possessing Yuji's body, spoke. "Where are the people? Where are-" He turned, finally taking note of them there behind him. Unease filled her when his attention landed solely on her. "- the women?" Kagome backtracked a step when he looked her way, a chuckle coming from him. The look in his eyes and the weight his words carried left her feeling ill.

Before he could take another step, a hand came up and took him by the face, almost as if pulling as he took several steps back.

"What do you think you're doing with my body?" Yuji's normal voice could be heard. "Give it back." A second later, that other one answered him.

"How are you able to move?"

"It's my body, you know," Yuji's voice answered.

The aura faded slightly as Yuji managed to suppress it back down.

"Don't move," Megumi stated. Yuji looked at him. "You're no longer human." He crouched to the ground, and a dark circle formed beneath him. "Under Jujutsu regulations, Itadori Yuji, I will exorcise you as a curse."

"Wait, wait!" Yuji cried, holding both hands up. "I'm fine, really!" he said. The markings faded from his skin. "More importantly, we're both really beat up right now. We should get to a hospital."

Kagome was silent as she observed him. Though the aura had faded, there was no telling if and when Sukuna would retake control of Yuji's body. A familiar aura brushed along her senses, but she didn't react when a figure came up on her side, a hand getting set on her shoulder. The other two there didn't take note of him until he spoke.

"What's the situation?"

"Gojo-sensei!" The dark ring around Megumi dissipated as he turned to look up at the man with white hair, a dark blindfold hiding his eyes. "Why are you here?"

In response, he turned to Megumi and held a hand up. In his other hand were the handles of a bag. "Hey!" he greeted. "I wasn't planning on coming, but man you got messed up, kid."

He leaned an arm over her shoulders, tugging his phone out with the free hand.

"The second years will get a kick outta this," he said as he held his phone up and snapped a dozen pictures of Megumi's beaten-up state. "Hey, c'mon look this way for me!" he laughed.

"Knock it off," Megumi huffed, turning and covering his face from view.

"If you weren't planning on showing up, why are you here?" Kagome asked flatly. He looked at her next.

"I guess I could ask you that same question, Mochi-chan," he responded. "Why are you here?" The smirk in his voice made her look away, huffing silently as she did.

"I wasn't forbidden from it," she responded, and he laughed.

"No, you weren't," he conceded. "Anyway, the higher-ups wouldn't shut up with a special grade cursed object missing," Satoru said. "So, after some sightseeing, I came to check in." He looked at Megumi. "Did you find it yet?"

"Well…" Kagome mused, tapping her chin. Before anything else could be said, Yuji, who'd been observing the three in front of him, raised his hand and spoke.

"Yeah, about that," he said. The white-haired man glanced at him. "Sorry, but I ate it."

Silence fell over the four there. A few seconds passed before Satoru reacted.

"For real?" he asked.

"For real." Both Megumi and Yuji responded.

Satoru let his arm fall from her shoulders as he looked at Yuji. A second later, he stepped away from the two and approached him. He got close, seeming to be looking for something in particular. Yuji stood frozen as the blindfolded man observed him.

"Damn," Satoru said as he leaned back, done with his observation. "Looks like that thing really did combine with you," he noted. "That's hilarious." He took a few steps away from him before looking back at him. "Anything off with your body that you can feel?"

"Not in particular," Yuji responded as he looked himself over.

"Are you able to swap out with Sukuna?" Satoru asked.

"Sukuna?" Yuji repeated the name, confusion in his voice.

"The curse you ate," Satoru clarified.

"Oh," Yuji nodded, "yeah I think so."

"Then give us ten seconds," he responded as he backtracked a few more steps. Once he had, he started to stretch. "Once ten seconds are up, come back to us."

"But…-" Yuji hesitated a bit, but he was met with swift confidence from the white-haired man.

"Don't worry," Satoru responded. "I'm the strongest." He tossed the bag he held to the boy on the ground. "Megumi, hold this," he said.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Kikufuku from Kikusuian. It's Sendai's specialty, and it's really good," Satoru responded. "I recommend the zunda and cream flavor."

"You actually went and bought souvenirs while people were in danger?!" Megumi bit out in annoyance.

"It's not a souvenir," Satoru responded. "I'm going to eat it on the bullet train home."

Kagome could feel the shift in Yuji's aura as he relinquished control back to Sukuna. The next second, she was able to spot his figure lunging for them.

"Behind you!" Megumi cautioned, but the older man didn't react. Instead, he continued on with his train of thought, entirely unbothered.

"Kikufuku's not like other souvenirs," Satoru said. The next second, a cloud of dust rose around them as Sukuna dropped down on them. The ground shook and she lost her footing, landing on the ground beside Megumi. When the dust settled, she opened her eyes. She was face-to-face with those red eyes from before. Ire lurked within them as Satoru lounged on Sukuna's back with his legs crossed. "The whipped cream inside is simply exquisite," he continued as if nothing had ever changed.

Then again, to him it was nothing.

It was sudden when the fight kicked up, Sukuna lifting himself up from the ground and lunging for the white-haired man. No matter what he did, he managed to dodge every attempt, and he did so with exceptional ease. Swiftly, he easily changed fronts, no longer dodging. He knocked Sukuna back and the match came to a brief stand-still. Not even a full second later, Sukuna turned and ran back, lunging again.

"For crying out loud," Sukuna drawled out. "You Jujutsu sorcerers are always trouble, no matter the era!" He jumped and aimed an attack at Satoru. It struck the ground all around them, smashing stone and metal to pieces as debris got kicked up by the force. Glass shattered as a larger hole was knocked into the side of the school. "Though, that doesn't matter much to me," he stated smugly as the smoke slowly cleared. "Now," he mused out loud, gaze straying elsewhere. "Where's that girl that was here? It's time to have some real fun."

Kagome heard him, and she tensed up at his suggestion. The implications behind it weren't lost on her. No matter what he meant by it, it wouldn't be any good for her. Beside her, Megumi also tensed. A hand went out as if acting like a shield for her.

Before anything could be done, the rest of the smoke had faded. Sukuna noted that his opponent was still standing. The prior goal was forgotten.

"Seven, eight, nine…" Satoru counted. "Should be time right about…"

As if on cue, the distinct aura of Sukuna started to fade. Yuji's own was suppressing it back down. A moment later, the curse was gone, and Yuji was back to normal.

"Oh, is everything okay?" he asked when he came back.

"I'm shocked," Satoru remarked. "You really can control it."

"He's annoying though, that's for sure," Yuji responded as he patted his head. "I can hear his voice."

"It's a miracle that's all he's doing," Satoru stated as he made his way over to where the younger boy stood. Once he was within arm's length, he reached out and tapped him in the middle of his forehead. Seconds later, Yuji fell forward, unconscious. Satoru caught him before he could hit the ground.

"What did you do?" Megumi asked. Satoru turned to face the pair on the ground.

"Knocked him out," he responded. "If he's not possessed by Sukuna when he comes to, he might have potential to make a vessel." He approached them. "I have a question for you," he stated. "What should we do with him?"

"Even if he does become a vessel, jujutsu regulations demand Itadori be executed," Megumi responded. "However…" he paused, looking his way. "I don't want to let him die."

"Your personal feelings?" Satoru asked.

"Yes," Megumi responded. "Please do something about this."

"Hmm…" Satoru glanced at Kagome, and she mirrored him as she looked at him. "What about you, Mochi-chan?"

"Are you expecting me to disagree?" she questioned. "Of course, I want him to live."

"Now it's a request from my precious sister," Satoru responded. As he did, he carefully picked Yuji up so he was on his shoulder. A second later, he flashed them a thumbs-up. "Just leave it to me, you two."

Kagome sighed and shook her head, pushing herself up on her feet. Once she was up, she offered her hand to Megumi.

"Sheesh," she mumbled under her breath, "come on."

He accepted her offer of help, letting her pull him up from where he sat.

What a mess…

She looked over the mess that remained of the school. Her thoughts shifted to the two inside. She could hear emergency vehicles in the distance, and she knew they were on the way to the school. Since there were no more threats lurking around, she summoned Kirara back to her side.

This could be left to them.

Auroua-chan: This got way longer than I expected, tbh.

Kagome's got a liking for Itadori. At the very least, she likes his personality.
It seems the jewel has a unique effect on her that will be explored as the story progresses.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
