A/N: Another JIBBS oneshot. This one doesn't have a happy ending, I hope you enjoy, Angels.
In all her years as a Field Agent on Gibbs's team, there was only one case that they hadn't been able to solve. The case was her first case as an NCIS Agent and she was thrown into the deep end. The case was a sad one: a five year old girl had been raped and strangled in the woods or at least she was dumped in the woods after she was raped and killed. They couldn't ID her or her killer/rapist. The team, especially Jenny and Gibbs, invested so much time, manpower, resources and tears trying to solve this little girls rape and murder for a week and a half before the Director made them classify it as a cold case, a cold case she tries to reopen every year but re-examinaing everything in the files without any success. Every year, she visits the unnamed gravestone in the cemetery to lay flowers and to simply stare at the blank black marble whenever she's in the States.
Sitting at her desk, staring at the little girl's face she took in Autopsy as a probie, a few hours after Ducky had done the autopsy, Jenny feels her green eyes sparkling with unshed tears as she stares at the file on her tv screen, reviewing her old training notes on the case. Her office door opens to reveal her ex-lover. She glares at him through her peripheral vision. "Jethro," she says, her voice deadly calm. "what the hell are you doing here?" She asks. Jethro is holding a piece of paper, most likely a warrant, in his hand. He turns his head to see what she's looking at and sighs deeply.
"Oh, Jen." The Marine says. "That's a cold case. It's been a cold case for the last six years, it'll never be solved." Jenny's glare hardens as she stands up, grabbing her overcoat. "Where are you going, Jen?" Jethro asks as she walks out of her office. "The cemetery. Where I go whenever I'm back in the States." Jenny snaps, walking down the catwalk steps, Jethro on her tail. She walks to the elevator, leaving Jethro alone, staring after her.
It's cold with a light wind sweeping across the city when Jenny enters the cemetery and walks the path to the gravestone. She looks at the black marker that is blank. "Hi, sweetie." Jenny says. "I'm still trying to find out who you are and who hurt you, I promise." The redhead says as tears fall from her face. She stands in silence as tears flow down her face until arms wrap around her waist. "This case has haunted me too, Jen." Jethro says, Jenny leans into him, putting her head on his shoulder. "I just wish we could find who she is and who raped and murdered her, give her some justice." Jenny tells her former lover and partner, Jethro sighs softly as kisses her hair. "We will, Jen, I promise. It might just take time but we'll get her justice, and that's a promise." If there's one thing she knows about Leroy Jethro Gibbs, it's that when he makes a promise, it's a promise he keeps, no matter how long it takes him to keep. Jenny shivers as she nods and allows Jethro to lead her away from the grave.
Jenny looks over her shoulder. "We'll find out who you are and solve your case, sweetie, we promise."
A/N: I love JIBBS so much, I have more JIBBS stories in mind, it's a matter of writing them, typing them out and publishing them, enjoy this one, Angels.
